Falling ash. Subservient Hellhounds. Dark mirrors and ticking clocks. Such is the life of a daughter of Hecate living in Hell …
Monroe Jacobs isn’t your typical witch. She is strong, her powers growing with each passing day. They are powers that beckon, powers coveted by many, including the man she loves.
Luther Craig is a remorseless Demon ruler in Hell. Governing a kingdom once presided over by his mother, the she-demon Lilith, Luther has everything he’s ever wanted. Power. But his kingdom is at risk, his newfound strength a challenge to the Princes of Hell.
Theirs is a strange relationship, the witch and the Demon, full of passion and need. It’s a relationship that will be tested by the worst kind of obstacles–pride, covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth.
For in the ash-filled shadows of Hell, the Princes are preparing for war. Luther isn’t the only one who wants power and a blonde-haired witch. He’ll have to face the Seven Deadly Sins to keep both.
R.K. Ryals is the author of emotional and gripping young adult and new adult paranormal romance, contemporary romance, and fantasy. With a strong passion for charity and literacy, she works as a full time writer encouraging people to "share the love of reading one book at a time." An avid animal lover and self-proclaimed coffee-holic, R.K. Ryals was born in Jackson, Mississippi and makes her home in the Southern U.S. with her husband, her three daughters, a rescue dog named Oscar the Grouch, A Shitzsu named Tinkerbell, an OCD cat, and a coffee pot she honestly couldn't live without. Should she ever become the owner of a fire-breathing dragon (tame of course), her life would be complete.
This is the third book in the Thorne Trilogy. I loved it!
Monroe Jacobs is a fantastic character! I loved her when I first met her in Redemption (The Redemption Trilogy). She is the best friend of Dayton Blainey. She also happens to be a witch, a very talented one, who is now tied to Luther "Thorne" Craig, a hybrid demon.
Luther Craig is a complex character. He is very arrogant, power hungry and decidedly sexy! He is also attracted to Monroe (and her soul) more than he would like. I was unsure about this character when I met him in the Redemption series, but getting to know this contrary demon has been great fun!
I have been wanting to read this book for some time, but due to a rather large reading list, it has taken me longer to get to read it than I would have liked.
I started to read it and was hooked from the first page; I read the book in one sitting. The story is full of action and danger, and kept me turning the pages.
Luther is still power hungry, even after winning his mother's kingdom, and even I was surprised at how ambitious his plans were in acquiring more. Monroe is still a powerful witch, but she will have to embrace all of her inherited power to be with Luther and keep them alive from the seven Princes of Hell, who reign over the territories relating to the deadly sins: Pride, Covetousness, Lust, Anger, Gluttony, Envy, and Sloth.
Monroe and Luther have a chemistry that burns white hot, even in Hell, and fairly scorches the pages! Their love is passionate and intense. But, they both seem to thrive on it. Some of the bedroom scenes are a little on the explicit side, but not explicitly graphic.
I found myself rooting for a demon against other demons. I'm not sure that this is normal, but Luther is one of the "bad boys" that seems more good than bad - better the devil (or demon in this case) you know. He may be evil, but he has a charisma that makes him a compelling character and I can see why Monroe is in love with him. I too have a soft spot for him, along with his brother Marcus. There is something about bad boys that women find irresistible. It must be a hold over from the primitive "survival of the fittest" gene. However, these boys are definitely knee trembling, even if they are a little darker than the norm.
The ending was a little bittersweet. I was sad to reach the end of the book, as it is always sad to say goodbye to characters in a series. However, the story finished satisfactorily and left me feeling happy. I am now looking forward to read more about the Craig brothers (Marcus and Luther) in the fourth book in the Redemption series, Revelation as soon as it is released.
R.K. Ryals has written another fantastic YA Paranormal Romance Series. She is one of my favourite authors, and I will read anything written by her. I love her fast paced writing style and the flow was wonderful. However, my only complaint is that I felt that this story was a lot shorter than the previous two books and could have been a bit longer!
Due to the use of bad language and violence, as well as scenes of a sexual nature that are a little explicit, I do not recommend this book to younger readers (under 17). But, I HIGHLY recommend this series if you love YA Paranormal Romances with demons, angels, gargoyles, witches and strong characters that come alive on the page. I also highly recommend that you read The Redemption Series (to find out how it all began) and Acropolis Series (Conor Reinhardt's story) too. - Lynn Worton
My sexy man Luther is back I missed him, that boy just is not bashful, "there was no modesty with Luther. He was everything a woman shouldn't want in a man, everything a girl should steer clear of, but his darkness spoke to me. "I don't know," he said, his long length rising from the bed. "I kind of like cocky." When it comes to Monroe he cares so much and he's just attracted to her, "he chuckled in my ear. "Is that a southern saying? I'd rather talk a sassy blonde out of her clothes, but that's not here nor there." When Monroe is with Luther there is an easiness about her, "for the first time since we'd left Bourbon Street, I felt my lips twitch. "I think the Hellhounds are potty trained," I offered." There is so much attraction with these two and it's hot, "lifting the bill of the hat, I stared up at him and said, eff me, and don't make it gentle." His answer was a growl." I loved this one it was naughtier than the other two and I of course love my naughtiness.
I enjoy Ryals’s morally ambiguous characters and the writing, but the resolution tends to be too simplistic and juvenile for the extensive set-up. It’s almost as if the book runs out of steam at the end when the climax should hit. Have noticed this in several of her books.
Hot Damn! I didn't think Luther could get any hotter but OH MY was I wrong. Dancing With The Devil had me fanning myself and begging for more. I love him, dark side and all. I know deep down he has a heart that beats for Monroe. He can be wicked but underneath the power hungry demon there is a man that craves love and acceptance. "I was seeing Luther, not as a demon or a hybrid struggling for power, but as a man. In this moment, with me, his barriers were gone. He was a sinner, not a saint, and I was his escape." There is just something about this demon that calls to me. It is definitiely his cocky and confident attitude, his totally dominant and unashamed nature, but what totally wraps me around his pinky finger is his loyalty to Monroe. She somehow breaks through his defenses and brings out something in him that no one else has. He can love, but don't think for one second he is all squishy and warm. Nope, but sexy as hell. "He was offering himself to me, and I knew without a shadow of a doubt, that Luther offered himself to no one." *Squeel
I know my focus has been on Luther (he would love that) so I want to make sure to also say that the story totally rocked too. Monroe continues to grow in her powers as her heart grows to love the demon Luther, but life in Hell is never safe and easy. There is always someone fighting for power and Luther loves his power as much as the next demon. They must face the seven deadly sins because they not only want more power but they want Monroe.
R.K.Ryals knows how to get your blood pumping. Dancing With The Devil has so much heat and sexiness, but it also has depth in the story that you can't help but be drawn into. I love this series and I am beyond thrilled with the way the story developed. I am so attached to Luther, Monroe and some of the other characters in the series. I honestly can't get enough of them.
One of my favorite quotes from the book that gives the perfect vibe for the story is by Monroe. Make sure to read this series, it is amazing! "I was the descendant of a goddess in love with a minion of Hell. I was damned, and I couldn't find it in myself to care."
Dancing With The Devil (The Thorne Trilogy Book 3) by R. K. Ryals
Review by Becky Harley
5 Stars
I have not yet read the books relating to Dayton and Marcas and I think I would have found this book even better had I read them first. Although the book still makes sense without reading the previous stories, I would recommend reading the others first.
In this book Monroe and Luther must work together to defeat Amos and Amun, two of the princes of hell, in order to keep their kingdom.
I loved Luther as a main character. He was just the right amount of evil to make him interesting, but also relatable and I found myself falling in love with his bad boy image. Monroe was also an interesting character. She has a lot of inner strength with a lot of personal demons (pun intended) which makes her the perfect heroine.
This book was even better than the first two in the trilogy. The relationship between Luther and Monroe was intense and humorous. I love them as a couple. There is a lot more drama and intrigue in this book and the story had more depth and detail. The strength and determination of the characters is humbling.
I love the development of the characters and the way that they have grown and adapted to changing circumstances. Monroe and Luther are closer than ever, however I did feel sad with the conflict and distance with Monroe’s family.
The teaser at the end of the book has me reading the Redemption series and I cannot wait for the next book. I hope to see a lot more of Monroe and Luther.
So if you follow this series and the redemption series you know all about Luther Craig. From the start of these books he's been my favorite character. He's not always been the main character but because of his rudeness and devilishness I love him. He's just so Luther. That's the only way I can explain him.
He doesn't pretend to be nice and sweet. What you see is what you get but with Monroe he's different. He shows her a side of himself no one else sees. He might not be your dream guy but to a witch who is a daughter of the Goddess of Darkness he's her dream guy. He shows his love to her in a way you'd totally expect from Luther. There are no flowers and candy but there is passion and Lust. "Only You" he tells her. "Mine" he says.. To Monroe this is better than saying I Love You.
Together they make sense. Hell makes sense. No longer does Monroe see safety and trust on Earth. She feels safe with Luther and a draw to the Underworld she never imagined.
Don't think though that Luther is any less vicious in this book than his last. He's now trying to go against the princes of the underworld, The seven deadly sins, and will do anything to gain that power.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved seeing the different sides of both Monroe and Luther and to see their relationship grow together in power.
No disappointment here at all. Only one thing left to say and that's.... Luther... is... Mine...
I loved this final instalment of the Thorne series. Getting to see Monroe and Luther’s story finally come to a close after one last showdown was awesome. After Monroe’s decision at the end of the last book to give her soul to Luther and remain with him in hell, I was a bit unsure where this story was going to go other than the brewing war between Luther and the other demon rulers in hell. I was glad the story spent some time dealing with Monroe’s new powers and showing a bit more of her coming to terms with her new life. There was also a lot more of Luther’s true character revealed and he and Monroe grew even closer together. I liked the way he was portrayed as a power-hungry monster on the outside, but only Monroe got to see his vulnerability.
Overall this was a great read. It’s well-written, thoughtful, and finishes the story off nicely. I think I enjoyed the Acropolis spin-off series more than this trilogy, but I still enjoyed getting to read Monroe and Luther’s story and would recommend it if you’ve read the Redemption series and are eager for more of R. K. Ryals’ fantastic storytelling.
In the final book of The Thorne Trilogy, we meet the seven deadly sins who just happen to be Princes in Hell. When the demon of lust sets his sights on Monroe it’s an all out war in Hell and on Earth. Monroe has fully come into her powers and with Luther there to guide her, the two just may be unstoppable. They love as fiercely as they fight. This couple is on fire.
This was my favorite in the series. Of the series it is the darker, sexier of the three. Somehow RK Ryals makes Hell the sexiest place on earth. There is nothing tame about these characters. Dancing With The Devil is hot, lustful, dark and dangerous. Ryals makes being bad look good.
holy hotness! I have a thing for those Craig Boys! Luther Luther Luther you are such a bad boy but so addicting! I have loved to see the growth between Luther and Monroe! DWTD was an amazing end to the series! with how hard that was to type as I love the whole series and then some! and where can I get me some hell hounds ;) R.K always makes me want more! amazing read for sure!
Loved where this installment of Monroe and Luther's story took us. Can't help but smile when I think of baseball caps now. I always thoroughly enjoy reading what R.K. Ryals puts on the page - she definitely has a gift.
