Sterek
Derek gets forced to watch some sci-fi show about a surly, secret prince and the sarcastic young spaceship captain hired to aid him on his quest. Strangely enough, he finds himself hooked on it. So much so that he's even drawn into the fandom. There he meets a popular fanfic author with an oddly endearing attitude, and he gets rather smitten. Maybe this mystery guy could actually help get him to stop pining for Stiles...

didn't really do it for me.

fun premise, but because I took everyone's advice and FOLLOWED ALL THE LINKS I ended up spoilering myself instantly.

the linky bits were mishandled. easy fix, as a reader: don't go to any homepages (don't click on any usernames) or the whole exchange will be right there and the story will be spoiled.

for the rest: I dunno. knowing the whole gubmint of the piece at the outset hampered my enjoyment.

also:

...who does relationships like this? in public.

besides me, I mean, that one time.

it made me feel faintly sick, remembering.

Silly, silly boys! I could totally see both of them sitting in front of their laptops just posting away at each other. This story includes links to blogs and it makes it so much more of an adventure to read. A little head spinning but clever and unique and really, so much fun. But seriously, Sterek writing porny fanfiction? Yeah, bring it!! Make sure you can click on the links!!!

Read.

Stop.

Before you attempt this you need to know that it is highly recommended - nay, absolutely imperative - that you do so on a computer or a tablet or any form of technology that allows you to click the links as you read along. If you don't, you would sorely miss out on all the snark, detail and insight that elevates this at least 50 notches on the enjoyment level. So take a pause and get yourself situated.

Ok. Ready?

Derek inadvertently gets sucked into watching a scifi show and becomes quite the fan - going so far as to read fanfic about the shipping of the two main male characters!! Oh my. He even delves into writing and posting his own wishful pwp, projecting himself and Stiles in such fantastical scenarios. Wouldn't you know he makes a connection with a fellow fanfic author whose personalty hits just a bit too close to home.

Seriously - this was a very ingenious creation showing off the massive obliviousness of these two and how they reconcile such a misunderstanding with quite the smart, fun, and smexy conclusion.

Nice. Very nice.

This was just delicious and fun! It's kind of a fic imitating life thing, wherein Derek starts watching a sci fi schow with Erica, and the vibe on this sci fi show is much like the vibe for Sterek fans watching TW on tv. "When are they going to fuck already?" is a line Derek yells at the tv about the characters on this show, much like we have said about Derek and Stiles. That the show also reminds himself of his relationship with Stiles, or lack thereof, is just an added bonus. Derek has been in love with Stiles for years, but doesn't think Stiles feels the same.

Of course, Derek finds his way to AO3 and slash fic about his favorite characters, and gets close to another writer, who is also in love with someone he thinks doesn't love him back. These two get closer over time, and well, you do the math.

This fic has a LOT of links to tumblr posts that were created, which gives the fic a more "real" feel, which I thought was a cute, added bonus, so if you read this fic, be sure you read all the links contained inside, so you don't miss out on anything. Mad props to the author for being SO damned creative!

4.5 stars. I just reread this fanfic for maybe the third time.

Because it. is. awesome.

It's a universe in which Derek and Stiles meet/bond (anonymously) over a fictional space opera TV program. They write their own fics about said program and the slash-able main characters in that show. Those characters are eerily similar to Derek and Stiles.

I just adored this fic as something fun and lighthearted.

If you do read it, though, DEFINITELY have internet access available. There are many embedded links in this fic, and my reading experience was greatly enhanced by being able to access the links while reading. The links are so clever and portray the (anonymous) online conversations Derek and Stiles have while fanboying over the TV show. Being able to peek in on their tumblr convos basically made this fic a complete experience.

Highly recommended. Also...pretty cute and smexy once they do figure things out. ;)

This is the story about a fandom within a fandom; a story about the two dudes we read this fanfiction for, being equally obsessed and involved in another online fandom of their very own.

Bottom line: it was a fun read!

In an infinite sea of Sterek fics, this one was enjoyably distinctive and utterly inventive. The extra effort this author went to, in order to create all the detailed blog links, was wholly impressive. I lost time scrolling from link to link, mid-story, just to explore all the online profiles this author had created to enhance her actual story. I would highly recommend reading this with complete access to all the links throughout the story. It’s worth the extra time it takes to click into them all, promise!

Essentially, this story sees Derek (begrudgingly) becoming hooked to a sci-fi show called Scattered Kingdom. He relates a little too much to the broody main character (Tiernan), who has an eerily similar past to his own. He finds his favourite character (Jarrett) is the “smart-mouthed young man who was cunning and underestimated and lithe and had a really nice smirk.” It takes Derek about 5 seconds to admit how similar Tiernan and Jarrett are to himself and Stiles. Thankfully, Derek has long since admitted to himself that his feelings for Stiles are more than friendly, he simply has to admit it to Stiles himself. Easier said than done.

In the meantime, Derek proceeds to become so obsessed with the show, that he immerses himself within the online fandom (under a pseudonym), creating his own blog account. He even dabbles in writing fanfiction (can’t you just imagine Sourwolf writing fanfiction!? HA!), which explicitly ships a relationship between Tiernan and Jarrett. He becomes quite a hit within the online community and before he knows it, he finds himself regularly engaging in online discussions (and flirty banter) with another equally obsessed fan – one guess as to who said fan is (hint: his name rhymes with Miles).

Although, the majority of the fic is told through Derek’s perspective and largely focuses on his online interactions, the story ends on a very sweet and very hot note! It also heavily features oblivious!Stiles and oblivious!Derek, which is always fun when handled well. The big reveal moments were awesome, and MUST be read with access to the blog links provided or else the whole effect will just fall flat!!

I won’t be forgetting this one anytime soon.

I read this a few weeks ago so obviously this isn't as fresh in my mind as it might be.

This was a ton of fun. The spiralling self-referentiality had me harkening back to my college years when "post-modern" was the buzz-word on everyone's lips, to the point that I'll pull out the adjective Borgesian to describe the story. I can't say enough in praise of the way the author exploited various media to create a unique reading experience and fill out her story. I didn't think the actual Sterek plotline was as strong or original as the rest, and Derek as fanfic author, comic as the idea is, definitely verges on OOC for me. Still, fanfic seems especially ripe for this kind of creativity and experimentation, and IMHO there can't be too much of it. I highly recommend this as both a hilarious, enjoyable story and as a particularly clever and original example of exploiting technology to push beyond the boundaries of the text.

I kinda liked this! I almost always enjoy Derek POV and this was no exception. I read it on my iPad so I could reach the links easily.

It was fun. I can actually see Stiles writing fanfic, what with his adhd and manic qualities he probably doesn't sleep much. And as for Derek, I can see him falling easily into the Internet as it doesn't require him to speak much.

Very sweet. They fall for each other twice!

Fun little fic of fandom writing Sterek.

I'm not rating it because it's link heavy and needs to be read with an online connection or you miss out on a lot. I download fics to my kindle to read in work where I've no internet connection, so... it felt unbalanced, perhaps as I missed out on a lot of their interaction. Would have liked to have seen some face time beyond the blogging.

Very cut. And entertaining enough. Too bad I have no skill at using Tumblr to really appreciate the effort put into this. Too bad some of the links didn't work either (not sure if that was because of me or the page was deleted). I admit it took me a while to figure out there was no real Tiernan or Jarrett (I admit to having looked them up online to better understand the fanfiction Derek and Stiles were creating). But the misunderstanding was convoluted enough to make you appreciate the confession time and ensuing love making.

Some Favorite Quotes:
"Shut up and let me love you," she snapped.

"This is your last chance to back out," Derek whispered. "If we go in there, if we do this, then I'm not ever letting you go. Understand?"

Cute and all, but it made me super uncomfortable at some points. Having all those relationship developments happen in front of an audience, and willingly. It goes beyond the tumblr fun which I understand and love.

DNF.

I'm not here for writers blaming and hating on female characters because they happen to interfere with their ship that, tbh, has no real basis on the show.

This was a really good story. This is a Sterek fanfiction story. For those of you that don't know...Sterek fanfic is based off 2 male characters, Stiles and Derek, from the TV show Teen Wolf. In the show they're both heterosexual but some viewers have fantasized about them together in a m/m relationship and thus Sterek was born. This seems to take place in a TV show-like world, a number of years after the TV show took place (because Stiles has his own apartment). Derek and Stiles are sort of friends and are attracted to each other but they both think the other doesn't like them in return.

So Erica has a fight with Boyd and goes over to Derek's place to hang out and commiserate with someone. She gets him to watch this Sci Fi show he's never seen before and he thinks (at first) that he'll hate it but soon gets caught up in it and obsessed. And did I mention that the 2 main characters in the show remind Derek of him and Stiles? Once they marathoned their way through all the episodes available to watch so far, Derek found himself wanting more. He started going online and looking for info on the show and this led him to find fanfiction. He read all the fanfiction for the show that he could find and even found an author he thought did a great job at the fanfiction. I don't want to give too much detail but lets just say that he and the author start online chatting and the author also reminds Derek of Stiles for some reason... Once everything gets cleared up, Stiles and Derek start a long awaited HEA together.

I really enjoyed this story. There are some links within the story that take you to separate links with the convos from the story and I'd highly recommend checking them out because not all the info is in the story (specifically the last and most important link to the story). I really liked both Stiles and Derek in this story and it left me with a big smile at the end (and even now while thinking back to write this review). :D

Funny, somewhat snarky and somewhat smexy.

Reminded me very much of the song which I love so that went toward me loving this story too.

Nice.
