One kiss changed everything. As sheriff, I’m the guy people call for help. But when my solo Hawaii trip gets hijacked by my clingy ex, suddenly I’m the one who needs saving.
My unlikely rescuer? A gorgeous stranger who plants one breathtaking, reckless kiss on me in the middle of a crowded bar—sending my ex packing… and stealing my carefully guarded heart.
Tommy Marian kissed me like he knew me. Like he wanted me. Like I was his. Like he was mine.
But he’s not.
He’s a straight, ambitious city doctor—here in paradise for his own damn wedding. And I’m going home alone, as usual.
Six months later, I land a dream search and rescue gig in Legacy, Montana. One summer. A break from my coupled-up friends. Zero distractions.
Except guess who’s freshly single… and bunking in my tiny cabin? The biggest distraction of my life.
Tommy Marian is still beautiful, still infuriating, and still everything I can’t want. He says what happens in Legacy stays in Legacy. I say I’m not even tempted. At least one of us is lying.
Because when Tommy disappears on the mountain, I realize I’d burn the world to get him back… And maybe this time, I won’t let him go.

I only keep a small list of my very favorite books and series in my bookshelf here. I read A LOT and it's hard to keep the list updated!
I really enjoyed the original Marian series, so I was really excited to see the next gen Legacy series announced.
This book was non-stop action and I kinda never wanted it to end! I loved the mini Marian reunion and all the little easter eggs scattered through the story too. I cannot believe Aunt Tilly is still alive 😂
Tommy and Foster are just so good together! There were definitely echoes of Blue and Tristan, but Tommy has way more fire in him and Foster is determined to protect himself. I loved their shared passion for the wilderness and the emotional rollercoaster that their journey to a HEA was.
I'm also massively intrigued for what else is to come in the series - I can't wait for Alex's story next!!
***** I received an ARC of this book from Give Me Books, and this is my honest review
4 “tell me you don’t think about this every second of every day” stars
Everything about this book was just so endearing, from the setting, the side characters, the main characters, the set up, the romance. Everything was just so lovely and created the perfect ambiance for me. I was looking for a book where I could lose myself in the world and the characters for a few hours and this book was just perfect for that.
If he’d give me another chance, I’d grab any opportunity to have a summer fling with Tommy Marian, even knowing it would leave mangled wreckage behind after he was gone. Better to taste heaven for a few weeks than spend the rest of my life wondering what loving Tommy Marian felt like.
Mini-blurb: Tommy, a big city doctor and Foster, a police sherif in a small town meet during a flight to Hawaii. Tommy is going to Hawaii for his wedding. They hit it off and hang out and they share a kiss. Which leads Tommy to question his entire life … 6 months later, they meet again because they are both teachers at a wilderness emergency training program for the summer. They decide to be friends with benefits for the duration of the program before they go back to their very different lives. But what happens when they develop feelings for each other?
I just loved the prologue so much and I adored how it was all about how they met. It got me so hooked and I just wanted to keep on reading to see what would happen next. I prefer my second chance romances when we get to see what happened the first time, what went wrong and then how they patch things up and this book painted such a detailed timeline of their entire relationship and I had so much fun reading all about it.
The pining and longing in this book did things to me. I adored how they could not forget each other no matter how hard they tried. And how they kept thinking about the other every second of every day. I loved how they both developed feelings about 2 seconds into their friends with benefits agreement, that was just so lovely to me. Their banter. Their connedction. Everything about these two was sparkling off the page. You could just feel their love and admiration for each other through every page.
The vibes and setting in this one was just so immersive and peaceful. I loved learning more about search and rescue and seeing them teach the different skills to the students and then following along as they applied their skills to real life situations when they had to rescue mountain climbers, etc.
It wasn’t just physical attraction that made me crave him the way I did, but this. The way he fit into my world like he’d always belonged there.
The love story between Tommy and Foster was actually really good and I loved the pacing, their characters and even the predictability of Lennox's story writing.
I couldn't give it more than 2 ⭐ because of f******g grannies. I cannot believe they are present in this series. Like is the author really, really not reading reviews of her books? No one can stand those characters. They are borderline SA-ing their queer male relatives in every book they appear in. I thought that, with this being a new series focused on the children of the Made Marian couples, the grannies would not be present at all, cause you know they should AGE!, but alas I wasn't so lucky. I actually skipped all the chapters in which they appeared and I couldn't really enjoy the story because of how gross and off putting they were. And of course they were in the epilogue as well, which is setting up the next book.
If I knew they were in the book I would not have read it and it's too bad because I really like Tommy and Foster.
This is the book that I was wanting (Foster's story from The Billionaires Brotherhood) but also that I wasn't expecting (a return to the world of the Marians and the delightful Tommy) and it was superb.
While there are the usual guest appearances you'd expect in this universe, and yes Aunt Tilly and her posse are included, I would say this also works as a standalone because there's plenty of explanation given when necessary.
In terms of the plot, I absolutely loved it, even though Foster himself made things much harder than it needed to be, I still totally understood his feelings and his fears and why he was holding back because he knew Tommy Marian could permanently break his heart.
As for Tommy, he's my favourite kind of guy as well, he's got the charm of the Marian ancestry, coupled with a teeny bit of justified arrogance at knowing how good he is at his job, but he's also one for a quiet, expected life which is what makes the narrative so compelling.
He doesn't expect Foster Blake, and he doesn't expect the wake up call he brings along with the reckless couple of kisses they exchange to get rid of Foster's irritating ex, who's turned up out of the blue in Hawaii.
Everything about this book worked for me, the grumpy Foster (who's really just hiding his bruised heart), the outwardly cheery Tommy (who's stuck in a career/life crisis and wants to see some sign Foster might be feeling it too), the adrenaline rush risks they found themselves in while helping out at a Search and Rescue Training centre, the way they both had to take a leap of faith, the goofy puppy Foster's training, and the ultimate outcome of finding The One in the unlikeliest of places.
I hadn't really considered wanting a return to the Marian universe but now that it's here, I am so on board!
Next up is Tommy's cousin Alex, owner of the Timber restaurant and bar in Legacy, Montana, and the Fire Chief. Sparks are flying already!
Just one thing, pay attention to the Author's Note and don't try do any age maths on the guest appearance characters!
#ARC kindly received from the author via GiveMeBooks, I am voluntarily leaving a review
This was another huge “why don’t people talk to each other”-book… And I normally really don’t like that 🤣 I loved their instant connection though. And Tommy was just hilarious in the plane.
I always have a hard time believing how often people coincidentally run into each other in books. First they meet in Hawaii, then in Montana, while Tommy is from NYC and Foster from Wyoming. However… I once ran into a guy while backpacking in Australia that I met two years earlier on a plane flying from Amsterdam to New York. So I guess it does happen.
Anyway it took way too long for me for Foster to get his head screwed on straight. And still this book was worth five stars 🤣
I’ll probably reread in a while. Very curious to see about those five stars by then.
DNF at 20% - so bored. The meet-cute is the same as Borrowing Blue, and the author even makes a joke about it. But it just seems recycled and lazy. The timeline makes no sense—this takes place 30+ years after that book so Aunt Tilly and all the grandma’s should be dead by now, unless they’re zombies. 🧟♀️
Fast paced and fun book with 2 likeable characters and a hoard of cameos from previous books.
This is the start of “The Marians - Next generation” - so if you loved the “Made Marian” series, you’ll meet some of the characters here again - but don’t start mathing. Mathing is bad. This here is from the author’s notes:
Do not, under any circumstances, do any math related to character ages. I promise this will not end well for you. Don’t make assumptions about what year certain events take place, or the relative age of parents, grand-parents, or great-aunts. Just *waves hand vaguely* enjoy yourself without thinking too hard about it.
That being said - I didn’t do the math, and I enjoyed myself. Were there (intentional) similarities to “Borrowing Blue”? Definitely, but I didn’t mind. Firstly, it’s been a while since I’ve read it, and secondly- well, there aren’t THAT many ways to spin a small town romance, right?
So we get Tommy Marian, on the verge of marrying (a woman), only to end up deeply confused after being kissed by Foster Blake, the sheriff from Majestic/Montana (aka the place where The Billionaire Brotherhood series is located).
Tommy reconsiders everything he thought he wanted from life (and relationships), and cancels the wedding. Only that Foster storms off before he can tell him. So there’s that. No more Tommy and Foster.
Until (because of course there’s an until) they meet again during a “search and rescue gig”, where they’re both instructors for a bunch of students.
I loved that part, I honestly didn’t know there are courses for stuff like that (although it makes sense).
As for Foster and Tommy: ofc they’re not only teaching together, they’re roommates, too 😂 because of course they are.
It’s one of the better books by Lucy Lennox, and I’d maybe have rated it with 5 stars, if Foster wouldn’t have annoyed me for not listening to Tommy and keeping him at arm’s length even after they start hooking up.
Tommy deserves the world. And while Foster got his head out of his ass towards the end, for around 70%, Tommy would have deserved better 🤷♀️
Michael Dean, who seems to narrate all of Lucy’s books, did a great job here.
Definitely will be picking up the next book about Alex and the silver fox firefighter when it comes out ❤️
2.5 Stars I could not get into this one, both MC complained SO MUCH… like it was all first world problems and they were making them out to be life ending. And shouldn’t Aunt Tilly be dead by now??
4.5 stars I was hoping for Foster's story since he appeared in Marrying Mr Majestic and I'm so happy Lucy Lennox decided to write his book. I was a little scared I couldn't keep up because I haven't read anything from Made Marian series, but I shouldn't have worried because I enjoyed it very much.
This story has a lot of my favourite tropes: sexual awakening, second chance, forced proximity, wonderful setting. Both Foster and Tommy are wonderful characters and it was easy to fall in love with them. I appreciated so much their dedication to their work, their commitment, their morals: they're really are good men who care more about people more than money or status.
I adored the intimacy of the cabin: I loved how they created a little bubble where they felt safe to be themselves, where they had the freedom to really figure out what they wanted in their lives. Where they understood that there was more between them than a hookup arrangement.
What prevented me from giving five full stars: I could have don with less miscommunication, sometimes they should just have sit and openly talked to each other. And I know this will be very unpopular, but I didn't like Tilly at all: she was meddling and interfering and she did more harm then good.
I liked the side characters and I really look forward to read the next book, Alexander's story.
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
“If you think I could walk away from you with a ‘have a good life’ text, Tommy Marian, think again.”
5 stars
I was so excited for this book, and it absolutely delivered.
Foster and Tommy were so much fun to read about from the get-go. Their banter was everything, their chemistry was undeniable and seeing them torn between attempting something casual knowing it'll break their hearts, or risk never knowing what it would feel like together was so damn good. Add in all the other plot pieces that we got in between? You'll never be bored with this book.
I also loved how Foster and Tommy had a very similar meet cute to Blue and Tristan. I don't agree with the reviews saying that that's 'lazy writing', I think it's a really cute and creative link between the first book in the original Made Marian series and now the first book in the new Made Marian Legacy series.
I have to say though: I had no clue that so many people dislike the grannies in these books! Personally, I am a HUGE fan of Aunt Tilly, so absolutely didn't understand the hate. People saying the book itself was amazing but rated it poorly purely because the grannies were in it?? Actually bizarre to me. Also... I don't know why people are complaining about 'they should be dead', 'does she not have a timeline' because Lucy literally explains in the author's note that you won't be able to make sense of the timeline, just throw it out the window because it doesn't make sense.
But must say, I was a huge fan of Aunt Tilly's many nicknames for Foster. Some of my faves being: ✨ Muscle Muffin ✨ Captain Deltoid ✨ Chesticles ✨ Biceps of Justice ✨ Squat Rack ✨ Glutes McGraw
Would've been 4 stars, but Aunt Tilly and the grannies still being alive and being sexual abusers to a whole new generation of men makes me so mad even one star seems like too much.
I LOVE the Marians, but I wish Tilly wasn't such a big part of all the stories. She's a HORRIBLE human being. If she was a man acting the same towards young women he's known since they were born, she would be the creepy predator uncle no one wants around. And somehow she's supposed to be this beloved quirky auntie who's apparently going to haunt us forever with her equally disgusting granny friends.
This was fantastic. Honestly loved the “prequel” where they met. Loved how they found each other again, loved the pining and the want. I usually enjoy Lucy Lennox’s books, especially when they’re not about billionaires, and this was no different. I loved the Made Marian series so much, so it honestly was nice just to read about a Marian again.
I also loved the setting. I hike a ton so I find SAR fascinating, and it was fun to read about!
My biggest complaint is that we never saw Tommy’s first time receiving penetrative sex. That would’ve been huge for the relationship development. It was just mentioned in passing.
My second biggest complaint is that Aunt Tilly and the Granny’s are still around. There was an author’s note telling us not to do the math, which is fine, except for the fact that these are widely hated characters who were definitely sexually assaulting characters in the Made Marian series. That portion has been removed from the characters’ now, but they’re still so fucking annoying. Why couldn’t other Marian’s take up the mantle of meddling family? I honestly don’t even mind the meddling!
Rescuing Dr. Marian is the first book in Lucy Lennox’s new Made Marian Legacy series. The book is a crossover between two of Lennox’s popular series, Made Marian and Billionaire Brotherhood. We have met Foster in several of the Billionaire Brotherhood books as the cousin and best friend to Waylon from Marrying Mr. Majestic. I found him an appealing character in those books and was very excited to learn he was getting his own story in this new series. While we get references to Foster’s family and friends in Majestic, as well as his life there, I don’t think you need to have read that series to follow along here.
Overall, I really loved this one and found Tommy and Foster a super appealing couple. I enjoyed their story and the dynamic between them and am looking forward to the series.
Phew - the feels in this book - it packs quite an emotional punch - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering. And I loved every swoony, heart wrenching, healing, hilarious moment of it. That’s the best kind of romcom for me, the sneaky ones that have all the depth and meaty storyline woven through all the snort worthy laughs. This wonderful love story had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, a small amount of danger, and spicy spice. Plus there is some Marian family insanity and smothering absurdity sprinkled throughout the story. Foster is the sheriff in small town Majestic, Wyoming. Tommy is an ER trauma physician from Manhattan. They meet on a plane to Hawaii and again in a hotel bar which morphs into Tommy pretending to be Foster’s boyfriend, and an epic couple of kisses. Except Tommy is in Hawaii for his wedding and those kisses changed his world view. Six months later they are both at the SERA training center as instructors and roommates. Given their initial meeting, Foster’s aversion to cheaters and his perception of Tommy, they agree to being professionals only while in the 8 week program. However, despite their best efforts, their chemistry sizzled off the page and it pulled them together no matter how hard they tried to resist. To get to their HEA though there will need to be a bunch of baggage unpacking, truth telling, and life course rearranging. Along with a delicious amount of push-pull between them. As always with this author’s books, the story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline. I am excited to read more in the series since this one made my romance loving heart extra happy.
So excited to be back in the Marian universe again and for this next generation series. And I love the crossover here between the Made Marian series and the Billionaire Brotherhood series. As usual, Lucy Lennox delivers a story brimming with humor and deep human connections. The characters feel so real it’s like they become real people who leap off the page and into our hearts and souls. I so thoroughly enjoyed how this first book in the next generation Marian stories references us to the book that started it all, Borrowing Blue, and how all my emotions from that book came flooding back as if I were reminded of my own family/friend legacy stories. It’s a powerful gift for a writer to possess.
In this book, Tommy Marian, a highly skilled ER doctor is in Hawaii when he meets Foster Blake, the sheriff of Majestic Wyoming who is on vacation. They find an instant connection but Tommy is straight and as Foster finds out by accident, in Hawaii for his own wedding. They have an ugly parting and then spend the next six months (Tommy in NY, Foster in Wyoming) thinking about the other non-stop. When fate brings them back together at a summer training course for Search and Rescue/Emergency wilderness medicine in Montana they can’t resist the attraction despite Foster’s best efforts not to cave in and to keep things professional. A series of events proves that impossible and ultimately they realize the pull can’t be denied.
It’s a great story of human connections, resilience, being true to yourself and what your really want as opposed to expectations, family and found family, and what decisions we will make for love and happiness. I read it all in one sitting, staying up all night because I couldn’t put it down. Absolutely loved it and can’t wait for book two!
I was beyond ecstatic when I learned that Foster was getting his own book. I’m so excited that he ends up with someone from the next generation of Marians. You don’t have to have read the first generation of novels to understand what’s going on in this book, but it’s still nice to see moments of Marian antics in this story. Tilly stole every scene for me!
Foster and Tommy have a very interesting meet cute. Their connection is immediate and a jaw dropping kiss shifts their realities, until Foster realizes a couple of things about Tommy - he’s straight and engaged. When the pair meet up again six months later, Tommy and Foster need to clear the air before any misunderstandings get out of control.
I really liked the SERA and SAR component(s) to this story. The Montana wilderness serves as a lovely backdrop and it’s also really nice when we get a little glimpse into Majestic, Wyoming [again, if you’ve read the Billionaire Brotherhood series]. Foster and Tommy have a few obstacles to overcome, (including stubbornness and geographical locations), but it’s clear that they are drawn to one another. When they embark on a summer fling that’s only supposed to remain physical, it’s obvious how both MCs crave something more from the other. While Foster and Tommy have an intense physical attraction, it’s nice to see their emotional connection as well. Tommy and Foster fit well together. They just might be exactly what the other person has been searching for all along.
This story is enticing. You will experience several emotions reading it, including satisfaction at Foster and Tommy’s hard won HEA. The epilogue(s) are both lovely and entertaining. I’m excited to see what else this new series will bring!
Foster and Tommy’s story was more than expected. I loved the depth of these two characters. They are two very intelligent men, experts in their different fields. They meet by chance in what could be a perfect meant-to-be-meet cute…at the wrong time. They go on to meet up again and have to learn to communicate, then figure out what they want. And, how bad they want it and how to get it. If you’ve read Lucy’s Marian Family series, you will be excited to see some familiar characters in this legacy book. If you’ve read her Billionaire Brotherhood series, same with those characters. However, no need to worry if not. You don’t need to read those to understand or appreciate this book. As a side note, I was personally anxious for this book as Foster was a side character of the Billionaire Brotherhood series and I had been waiting for his HEA. I loved his expanded background and viewpoints shared, but was just as riveted to Tommy’s! This book has twists and turns, some completely unexpected, so don’t expect a “I know what’s going to happen next” kind of story. My heart was in this from the start, cheering for these amazing men. I wanted to hug these characters multiple times! The warmth of the story keeps you on the edge of your seat and you will not want to put it down until the epilogue! This is a beautiful story of intelligent men finding their happiness in both their hearts and minds. Highly recommend!
I haven’t listened to a Michael Dean book in a long time, and the Made Marian series narrated by him were some of the first audiobooks I listened to, so this was almost nostalgic. He did a wonderful job as usual, giving distinct but not over-the-top voices to the characters. There weren’t any errors or confusing moments.
This book starts out so strong and is pretty non-stop from the moment the characters meet. Having two of Lucy Lennox’s series collide in this way was so fun, and Foster gets his long-overdue time in the spotlight. For the first half of this book, I was certain it was going to be my new favorite from this author. It would’ve been 5 stars but…
I could actually understand why Foster was so determined not to catch feelings (or at least not acknowledge it) after all he had been through, but the miscommunication in this book was non-stop. It isn’t my favorite trope to begin with, but by 3/4 of the way through, I was forced to just accept that it was going to keep happening. It isn’t a miscommunication about one thing either; it happens over and over from both sides of the relationship and isn’t even necessary to create tension or drama.
Aunt Tilly is also still alive, and while the author’s note at the beginning says to ignore the timeline/don’t do the math, I’m not sure her comedic value was worth it. She causes one of the big misunderstandings and doesn’t even get called out on it, despite it leading to a life-threatening situation. There are meddlesome characters that add value/actually help, and there are meddlesome characters that are just plot armor.
Overall, if you enjoy the Made Marian and Billionaire Brotherhood series, this is definitely worth the time. Just be prepared for more frustration than is usually present in a Lucy Lennox book.
What a fantastic way to be introduced to the next generation of the Marian family. There’s plenty of the original Marian’s popping in and Aunt Tilly is her usual self and had me in hysterics with the names she called Foster. Foster and Tommy are both strong characters and well respected within their fields. They do have some communication issues when it comes to “feelings” for each other and when trying to work out the logistics of being together. The angst balances well with the drama/action that these two wonderful men find themselves in. There’s plenty of simmering romantic tension leading to steamy times and a heartwarming HEA that I’m still smiling about after cheering them on every step of the way. This was a very enjoyable reading experience and after the sneak peek at the next Marian to get his story told and I can’t wait for more!
Rescuing Dr. Marian was AMAZING. I didn't go into it ready to cry, but I think maybe I should have. Tommy & Foster were absolute dummies, but they are dummies who belong together.
Lucy Lennox just keeps getting better. This story had me so emotional, y'all.
Foster and Tommy meet on an airplane. They have this instant connection. But then something happens, and they're separated for six months. Miscommunication happens. Then they aren't separated anymore - except by their own stubbornness and hurt feelings.
While we are watching all this happen, there are practically a million other things happening, too. All at the same time.
At a few points in the story I wanted to shake both of these idiots by the shoulders and say "go gettum," but they worked it out.
On top of everything else, this story was so ROMANTIC. I was seriously swooning.
Rescuing Dr. Marian comes out 08/19. If you're a Lucy Lennox fan or you loved the Billionaire Brotherhood series or you just have a heart that loves a romantic hea, this is your book!
Thoroughly enjoyed these two! This crossover was so perfect! I have wanted Forest’s story from the beginning of the other series and getting to dive into the Marian’s again with Tommy was so freaking good! Aunt Tilly is utter perfection as always!
These two will just melt your heart. They are so in love with each other but holding the line because they want to be safe because what they both thought they wanted/needed to be were not where they currently were.
I think I loved this so much because like Tommy and Forest I am always doing the expected or right thing to do and to finally live for yourself….what a beautiful gift!
The Made Marian series is one of my absolute favorites, and being able to get back into that world was such a treat. The way they both met was a fun tribute to Blue and Tristan, but the rest of the story was their own
What they had to deal with, overcome, and decide for their future was so well written. Seeing cameos from past characters we all have read about was so fun! Overall, another fun and quirky book from Lucy. You can’t go wrong with any of them!
Lucy Lennox is that little lizard pressing the button constantly, except the button is small town romances that make me feel like I can pack my life up and achieve anything I want. I WILL EAT THIS SHIT UP EVERY TIME!
Foster, babe, thank god Tilly lit a fire under your ass. Love your emotionally constipated ass so much 🫶🏼
