3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads
======================

I knew Gage was with Missy. I knew that he was probably sleeping with her and doing all of the things he once did with me. I knew this. Still nothing, nothing in this world could have prepared me for seeing it with my own two eyes.

“Just wondering where Missy is?” And, like that, the concern disappeared and was replaced by a blank expression. “I think she’s still in my bed. You want me to go up and get her?” His words made me physically flinch, which was something he did not miss.

I TRIED NOT to resent the fact that Gage believed Dooley over me. With time and several more propositions from Dooley, my resentment grew until I was practically choking on it.

It was only a few months ago that I read and reviewed His End Game, the first book in the MMG series. I'm glad I didn't have to wait too long for Not Letting Go because I had A LOT of questions I needed answers too. Mainly, WTH happened to Piper and how was Gage involved? When an author releases their second book in a series, there is always some uncertainty. Will it be as good as the first book? Will it surpass it? Or will it not meet expectations? No need to fear because R.B. Hilliard hit this one out of the freaking park! I'm not the type of person to rave that a story is a five plus plus plus plus infinity plus book but suffice to say that I gave the first book 5 stars and I thought Not Letting Go was an even better book!

Not Letting Go picks up essentially where His End Game ended and it is immediately off to a volatile start. Piper is in the coat closet suffering an anxiety attack so severe, I felt her fear which in turn forced my own stress levels to high alert. At this point I knew I wasn't going to put this book down until I was finished. As Piper struggles to live her life day in and day out in the present, her past memories of living in Texas play out in chronological flashbacks. The love of her life has betrayed her and there seems to be a lot of confusion over what transpired. The poor girl can't break free of him either. She returns to her hometown after escaping a terrifying event only to find that Gage has followed her to Charlotte and laid down roots, roots that are entangled with her inner circle. I shed a number of tears over this girl's pain and sadness. We know someone broke Piper but the layers of deceit, resentment, lies, omissions, manipulations, and eventual violence all play out in a twisted plot that has the past violently colliding with the present. Piper, the girl I once thought selfish is unbreakable and selfless and Gage, the man that was kind, caring, loving and protective completely lets me down when I felt it mattered most.

"I hope that someday you find someone special to share your life with, Piper. If and when that happens, do yourself a favor and believe in it."

As this series picks up speed it's building quite the dynamic of characters. These incredibly good looking alpha males give me the hottie bunch feels. My vibe can't be far off the mark because when I looked back at my review for His End Game, I compared Max to a Kristen Ashley hero in-training. Max McLellan is the ringleader who owns the automotive garages and has far reaching connections and ties to everyone in the story. When it's time to rally the troops, Max takes charge. Besides the garage, there is the motorcycle shop that Gage owns and Dragonfly which is co-owned by Max's best friend Kurt and the tall, tan, tatted gorgeous specimen that is Dillon Whitaker. With the shitstorm that seems to follow this group, it's only fitting that Max's friend Garrett has started his own security/P.I. company that employs some magnificent muscle. When this group gets together, I'm sure angels sing.

Not Letting Go is a turbulent story with a multifaceted and emotional plot. The relationships and interactions between the friends is well written. In amongst all the drama, R.B. Hilliard has created a tight knit group that truly care about each other. Piper and Gage's relationship is sexy, sweet and painfully heart wrenching to watch play out. A few characters bring an entirely new meaning to the definition of crazy and R.B. really pushes the psychotic envelope with these ones. What is that I hear? Maniacal laugh? If the suspense, heartache and treachery doesn't bring you to your knees, the fact that nobody is safe will. No. One.

FIVE ‘I WANT FOREVER WITH YOU’ STARS!

This is the second book in The MMG series by RB Hilliard. This is a story of what happens when love is interfered with by a purely evil outside force. It’s a page turning tale of true love, betrayal, heartbreak and, finally, redemption. This book had me griping my Kindle from the first page through the last.

Piper O’Connell is a confident, down-to-earth beauty. The childhood best friend of Ellie McLellan, she lived in Charlotte most of her life before she left for boarding school in Virginia and then settled in Texas after college. She’s funny, she comfortable with her place in the world and she’s very much in love until she is shattered by the ultimate betrayal.

Gage Blackwell is a good guy. He’s handsome, he’s loyal, and he loves Piper. He works for a man named Dooley Shane doing whatever it is that he needs him to do. They met when Dooley helped Gage out of a business going bad. He trusts Dooley, and he feels like he owes him.

”When Gage Blackwell touched me, my body sang.”

While living in Austin, she meets Gage and their attraction is instant. Never has Piper reacted so viscerally to a man, and she is powerless to fight the love that builds between them. Gage feels the same about Piper. He is it for her, and she finally understands what it is that Ellie and Joss have in their men. She’s happy, she’s in love. The only sore spot in their relationship is Dooley, and they argue about him once and, unwittingly, Gage lands a blow to their relationship that Piper doesn’t recover from.

”Tell me, Piper, what would it take to make you mine?”

Unbeknownst to Gage, Dooley has fixated on Piper and his manipulations wreak havoc on her and, ultimately, their relationship. While Gage is yet again out of town on a job for Dooley, Piper has a terrifying, nightmarish experience with Dooley which subsequently leads to the complete collapse of their relationship. A beaten and emotionally broken Piper barely manages escape and flees back to Charlotte and the safety of her friends. She never tells them what happened, despite their repeated attempts at questioning her and their obvious worry at the shell of herself that Piper has become. Eventually Gage tracks her there. Piper, believing Gage played her, refuses to talk to him and rejects him repeatedly. Heartbroken and confused, Gage tries to move on, and he stays in Charlotte.

”Don’t leave me again, Princess.”

Dooley isn’t done with Piper, he wants her. Unable to hide behind her silence any longer, she finally tells her friends and Gage the entire story. Her friends formulate a plan and put security in place while they attempt to bring down Dooley. Slowly Gage and Piper find their way back to each other and eventually reunite, stronger than ever. Dooley escalates his campaign to get Piper back, involving some of her friends in the process.

This was not simple romance. It was powerful, and it was complicated. The plot was thick with conflicting emotions: the flush of real love and the burn of anger; the devastation of betrayal and the relief of redemption; the safety of friendship and the fear of pure evil. This story is, at its core, a romance, but what makes it truly captivating is experiencing all of these conflicting emotions while being wrapped up in an air of suspense. Plus, we get more of the deliciousness of Max and Ellie and Kurt and Joss. Taking into consideration that this is the author’s second published work, it’s almost astonishing the level of skill and the sheer talent displayed by the creative mind that is RB Hilliard. I was a fan after her first book, and the exceptionally talented RB Hilliard has made a spot for herself on my auto-buy list.

Not Letting Go opens up with the once vibrant and vivacious Piper O’Connell, having the mother of all panic attacks in a cloakroom closet. This resulted in me feeling claustrophobic and taking many much needed deep breaths to get through the opening chapter.

‘Finding out that Gage’s love wasn’t real had such a profound effect on me that I often thought about giving up.. giving in… and letting the dark swallow me whole.’

Thus, I was hooked into devouring this book in one sitting, such was my intense need to find out what the hell happened to Piper in Texas from ‘His End Game’ (book 1 of the MMG series). And boy what a read! Not Letting Go is intense!!

In Texas, Piper and Gage fell madly, head-over-heels, ridiculously in love with each other. Sure, Gage had a less than conventional relationship with his boss, the psychotic , creepy, slime-bag Dooley, but his love for Piper was obvious. So how in the hell did Piper end up fleeing Texas and Gage? What could have happened to make her doubt Gage’s love for her?
One word: Dooley
Two more words: Psychotic nut-job!

Now ‘safely’ back in her hometown and working at Dragonfly, Piper is surrounded by her tight-knit crew of friends, but perplexed to find that Gage is now one of the gang. Piper is in a downward spiral – trying to get over Gage but it’s not that easy when the love of your life is now a part of your inner circle. ‘I had lost my heart, my way, and was mentally spinning.’

She is astounded to find out that the person she ran from is out to get her and bring her back to Texas. Piper, who I thought was immature and selfish (hey she did abandon Ellie right when she needed her!) fronts up and decides that she has to protect her friends and Gage and in doing so
‘returning to Texas and Dooley means that I might have to give up my freedom…’ because ‘regardless of everything, my love for Gage was as true as my hatred for Dooley.’
And so this story unfolds and is action packed and drama heavy, with unbelievable twists and plenty of WTF moments (courtesy of said psychotic nut-job) thrown in to add to the mess that was and is Piper’s life. When I read about what went down in Texas it made my hair stand on end! Getting to see who ‘broke’ Piper and how he did it … ooohhh I literally wanted to kill him for hurting her.
The other side of Not Letting Go is the dynamic between the friends. The humour, the love, the oftentimes hilarious interactions between these wonderfully written characters makes for a great read.

And then there’s Gage…. he’s hot and he’s heartbroken. He’s been wronged by the people he trusted most and is trying to figure out why the love of his life just vanished into thin air and out of his life. He’s seeking answers and he’s playing hard to get which results in some laugh out loud moments

Not Letting Go is a step-up in terms of writing for R.B. Hilliard. It is fast paced, yet the story flows effortlessly and it is most definitely a page turner.

4.5 hearts from me and I am waiting eagerly to read book three in the series (write faster please!).
I highly recommend that you add this series to your TBR list, you won’t be disappointed.

Favorite Lines or Quotes:

“And I love you.” Those three words meant absolutely everything to me.

NADBB reviews R.B. Hillard’s second offering of her MMG Series, ‘Not Letting Go.’ It lived up to its name and kept us in for the long haul.

Synopsis:

In this book we get the story of characters that piqued our interest in the first one.

Our heroine Piper O’Connell made a difficult decision. Perhaps it wasn’t well thought out? Sometimes decisions are like that, you make them at the time because it seems to be the only alternative.

Our hero Gage Blackwell is a man who lives up to the name of the book, following his woman across state lines just to find out answers.

When these two finally get together will they get closer or break so far apart that nothing can put them back together again?

The Review:

The Good:

This time we liked the heroine a lot…..but we freaking loved the hero. He stole the book for us. (Even his name drew us in and kept us there. Gage. Gage Blackwell. 007 voice implied). Gage met the woman of his dreams and when she flew the coop? He chased her down! Give us two of him and side of more please.

Also, we are now familiar with RB Hillard’s quirky sense of humor that she writes and allows the characters to appear real, human and people we’d love to get to know. She has a true talent for this.

The Bad:

There were scenes of past events that were needed and entertaining. However, sometimes they caught me unaware. I’d be reading a few pages in and realize oh… okay this already happened. I’m blonde so it could be a me thing.

The Rating:

Solid 4.3 no wishy washy slide here We love it. We love Gage. We want more.

Piper moves to Texas to and loves being close to her parents and moves in with a friend from her boarding school and cousin Savannah. So when they have a girls night out it was Piper who meets a hot bad boy biker Gage but when a girl sits on his lap its piper who is let down and leaves. Gage’s boss is A creepy and scary man named Dooley he wants nothing more than to get to know piper but she only has for Gage. Gage shows up at her work and she couldn’t be more thrilled and they hit it off and fall hard for each other but when Dooley tells her he will stop at nothing to get her she tells Gage but he thinks it is just a misunderstanding. When gage is called away on business it is one of Dooley’s flunky that calls piper and tells her she needs to hurry and get over to Dooley’s home making it sounds like something happened to Gage, but she ends up getting kidnapped by him and badly beaten and pretty much being brainwashed into thing Gage was with another women. She escapes and heads to the only safe place she knows back home to her friends . She ends up seeing Gage there and after having her heart broke she walks away from him but is madly in love with and her heart will always belong to him. Will Dooley find her? Will Gage forgive her or will more peoples lives be in danger?
This is a story you will need your tissues for and it makes you think about life and true love and how far are you willing to go to save the man you love and the friends you love.

Piper is holding onto some secrets in the beginning of this book and is hell bent on keeping them to protect those she loves. Piper was informed by Dooley that Gage was not who she thought he was and that their whole relationship was a sham. Gage comes to Charlotte in the hopes of winning Piper back but even he does not know what happened and why Piper left. When all of the secrets come out, the fallout is pretty big. Dooley is pure evil and for some reason became fixated on Piper and was willing to do just about anything to get her for his own. When Piper finally tells Gage what happened, he is mad that she didn't ask him for the truth but, under the circumstances, it was pretty easy to see why she felt and acted the way she did. When everyone is finally able to get pas the hurt and anger, Dooley strikes again and Gage and Max are left trying to find and protect Ellie and Piper. I enjoyed the ending. The book overall had some twists and turns that kept you guessing as to what Dooley put into play and was interesting enough to keep me reading when I should have been doing some holiday shopping. I will definitely read the next book in this series.

I couldn't wait to read the second installment in this series, and it did not disappoint on any level. RB is now an automatic one-click author for me and I cannot wait for book 3.

This story had all the elements I love, and then some. The characters and story were rich in detail and the fast paced action had me up till the early hours until I found out all the answers.

I loved Piper and Gage, both were deeply emotional and I certainly felt the highs and lows of their relationship. Their sexual chemistry sizzled, their emotional connection was intense and strong. Their story gutted me at times and then filled me to the brim with happiness at others. You couldn't help but be drawn in to every word, every breath and every heartbeat.

Once again, RB has written a solid story, the perfect balance of suspense and romance with one of the best supporting casts I have read. I loved seeing more of Ellie and Max and the rest of the group. All of the characters played integral roles and I am really looking forward to reading all about Dillon.

Gage Me

This is the second book I've read by R.B. Hilliard in the past two days and She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors!!I absolutely adored this book. I loved Piper! She has been beaten down by the world and by people she shouldn't have trusted but she is still strong and brave! She still loves with her whole heart and fights for what she believes in. Gage is her first true love and she believe she has ruined that love. In order to get back it back she must trust the people closest to her. She must finally trust in her and Gage's love! This book brought me to tears several times. I loved the storyline and Piper's friends. I can't wait to read Dillion's story and see what's to come in this amazing series!!

YESSSSSSSS!!!! Read this in one night. Fml. I should have been shut in writing, but this was constantly calling out to me and I needed to make time for it after MMG #1. I'm so happy I found this author. I love Hilliard. She is a diamond.

I love the pacing, the writing, the heroines, the men, everything. It's like unravelling a present. You don't know what's coming at you, but you're so excited to know and flipping the pages.

Today was like an epic hangover from hell. Caffeine is my bitch.

Confusing and it had way too many secondary characters.

- typical whiny doormat & man slut story told in annoying and confusing flashbacks.
- Lots of slut-shaming other girls.

Not letting go. R B Hillard

I've just finished reading book 1 "His end game" and have jumped straight back in to book 2.
I'm glad I didn't have to wait to read this book because I I still felt there was some questions that needed answering and I'm never sure about book 2 in a series. I was hoping " Not letting go" would be just as good as His end game.
The second book was just as good as book 1 so I had nothing to worry about.
You get to see a different better side to Piper in this book, that in wasn't expecting to come through after reading the first book.
This book provides the answers we needed from book one and makes things do much more clear to the readers. After reading both books you will not be left feeling confused or still be wanting or needed answers.
Not letting go was incredabily addictive book to read. It's very fast paced and very action packed. We knew the story was never going to full of roses. It was going to be hard, gritty and intriguing. It's manipulative, obsessive, violent and full of passion.
The story was gripping from start to finish. The story takes you on a emotional journey that won't disappoint you at all.
I loved both characters, Piper and Gabe and I wanted them both to have their happy ever after.
R.B Hillard has a great way of writing stories. She draws you in and takes you on a journey throughout the whole book. She has a great way of creating a story that stays in your heart and stays there.
Great 2nd book. 4.5 stars

Not Letting Go is a story of courage and strength. The female characters have heart and gumption. They rather face down their own death than let those they love face any possible pain. Making the choice to hold a gun and await potential danger while pregnant than have an injured person attempt it and call for help. The characters are so well developed and so full of spunk, which makes the story so real.

With a manipulative blow-hard playing everyone like a puppeteer manipulating a marionette and secrets that can unravel the most perfect relationships, there is never a dull moment. This is the kind of story that will have you saying H-E-double hockey sticks no that didn't just happen one moment and then Awe that's so sweet the next. It's a roller coaster of emotions waiting for you to pick up the book and go on the ride of your life.

The intensity of feeling and depth of character show prominently how amazing RB Hilliard's writing is. The plot has enough twists that will throw you for a loop or two and keep your interest throughout. This is definitely a wonderful sequel and I cannot wait to continue the journey.

Absolutely loved it!

After staying up all night reading His End Game (book 1), I immediately started this on after getting some sleep. Could NOT put it down! Although this can be read as a standalone I'd advise reading them in order. You won't regret it!
In his End Game you figure out Gage is the man from Piper's past. What you don't know is if he had something to do with the way she looked when she turned up.

Gage is a hot biker(like that's not enough), who gives up everything to follow Piper and find out what went wrong. In doing so can he finally have everything he ever wanted?
Piper was a sassy, smart-mouthed, and lovable woman who had her world flipped upside down leaving a broken shell of her former self.
Their story will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. It's full of twists, great friends, betrayal, and you won't want to put it down! I can't wait to see what R.B puts out next!!!

Wow R.B Hilliard does it again!!

I'm a little late to the party but this series is fast becoming one of my favourites. I'm not going to lie after reading book one i wasn't sure I liked Piper I thought she seem a flaky self centered party girl. I was hoping in this story that we would find a real more likable Piper, I wasn't disappointed. She was everything you want in a book heroine, feisty, funny but broken and scared. As for Gage, already a likable character for me is the typical alpha male and together the chemistry is electric.

The book is so believable and beautifully written with raw emotion, it had my heart in my throat at times others wanting to crawl in to a ball and cry like a baby but also over flowing with happiness. I also loved that we got to see more from the other characters and there progression of their stories too. Their story is full of twists and turns and i was completely gripping and is totally a must read for me, i cant wait to read book three Dillons story.

Just as entertaining as the first book and I found the heroine, Piper, hysterical. In this first book, Piper returned to Charlotte from Texas badly bruised but she refused to explain to anyone what had happened to her. We also got glimpses that she and Gage had sort of a history. This book provided clarity to what happened to Piper in Texas. She was a very independent woman but was also flawed that she did not trust people close to her and did not support her best friend, Ellie when she needed her. Piper was steadfast in her love for Gage but she never trusted that he could love her same. Similar to the first book, this read like a soap opera and more things were uncovered as pages were being flipped.

Hold on to your seats!!!

If you thought HIS END GAME was good, NOT LETTING GO is going to blow you away.

I am a HUGE fan of romantic suspense and this fits into that niche quite perfectly.

We met Piper in the first book as Ellie's best friend, and I have to say, I wasn't too sympathetically inclined toward her. But we get to see a much different side of her here - a side she has kept carefully hidden. Gage also is a familiar face, and not just to us....but very much to Piper. Although one she'd rather not have seen again.

This story will chill you to the bone. It talks of manipulation, obsession, passion, violence, debilitating fear and finally the steely strength found in family and love.

I loved both the main characters Piper and Gage, i was just praying that things would work out with both of them. The storyline was easy to follow and will keep you gripped, wondering what type off trouble Piper has got herself involved with.

Awesome 5star read!

I loved this book! At the end of book one we know that something bad had happened to Piper and she seems to be afraid of Gage. In the beginning I wasn't a fan of Gage but about halfway through I started falling for him.In this book we learn what happened between the two of them in Texas and why they are the way they are towards each other. This book is an emotional rollercoaster but in the end there's a happy ending!

Favorite line of the book that just sums up how I feel about Gage and Piper:

“Or they find someone else to replace what they’ve lost,” I quietly added. “They may try, but if what they’ve lost is irreplaceable, they quickly figure it out. That leads to two choices.” “Oh?” His hand stilled. “Getting it back or giving it up.”

I didn't have any expectations going into this book.
It was really good! Almost a biker book...a strong group of friends supporting each other to the fullest.
Gage and Piper go through a lot. The story is well told in my opinion. Couldn't put it down.
I look forward to maybe Cas, or Dillon, or Savannah's story.
