The Proxy

Rate this book
In the middle ages, marriage by proxy was common, but not falling in love with the substitute.

Caroline has found fault with all of her suitors. She thinks she has escaped her duties, until a marriage by proxy arrives. Her future husband is too weak and old to travel. Even the nunnery sounds more appealing than marriage to the old baron.

Nicholas, the proxy, marries Caroline as a stand-in for her new husband. Nicholas, the baron's servant, must help her to fall in love with the baron's character.

When Caroline falls for the proxy instead, what will she do about the baron? Especially, when she becomes pregnant with Nicholas' child?

Andrea has always enjoyed creating characters and stories. But it wasn't until she was in her late twenties that she started writing novels.

What happened that ignited the writing flame in her fingers? Divorced, and disillusioned by love songs and stories. They exaggerate. She thought. Love and Romance are not like that in the real world. Then she met her husband and realized, yes love and romance are exactly like the songs and stories say. She is now a happy wife, and a mom to three kids (two boys and a girl).

Once she heard about a writer who never let her characters deviate from the script. If they did, she just killed them. How sad, she thought. For her one of the best parts of being a writer is letting the characters have a mind of their own and seeing where the story takes them.

She loves this quote from Robert Frost, which sums up her opinion on allowing the characters their freedom: “No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.”
― Robert Frost

Andrea writes fantasy, paranormal, and historical romance. When not writing or reading, one may find Andrea dancing in Zumba.

A short, but extremely cute love victorian love story that will have you melting after the first page. Caroline is young and restless, and definitely not ready to fall in love or be tamed, but when her family surprises her with a forced, arranged marriage to what she is lead to believe, an elderly baron, she has no choice but to comply. Nicholas, believed to be one of the Baron's servants, steps in as the Baron's proxy for the marriage, a common practice in these times in England, but he holds secrets that even her parents are not aware of. Will she ever learn to love the Baron? And what will happen to Nicholas? There's a lot of action going on in this book, but the author has used her wonderful talent to tell the story without it feeling rushed, and a plot that is easy to follow, as she guides us to fall in love all over again. A well written, beautiful tale that will melt even the hardest of hearts.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

What a enjoyable very short story.
She is the wild child resisting marriage in medieval England, he is a Baron of humble birth and infatuated with her.
Definitely will be reading more from this author.
