Young and powerful, they finally have the chance to make peace…or war.
Firian Kess, now Head of the Tanyuin Academy, sets his sights on winning over the girl he once took Kiria Arioc, Keeper of the Western Kingdom. But power always takes its toll. Firian’s better impulses wage a losing war against his desire for control. Longing for more power, he uncovers a deadly ability in the Unreal that jeopardizes his alliances and his humanity.
Facing manipulation at home and war abroad, Kiria’s bold choice to work with the Tanyu, their former enemies, makes her a political target even as she fights her growing feelings for the handsome but selfish Firian.
With violent enemies threatening both their reigns, they struggle to maintain the fragile peace they find with each other. Despite their efforts, darkness threatens to consume them, putting everyone they care about in mortal danger.
Dark and surprising, this sequel asks how far you can go before you become the very monster you’re fighting.
This book was intense! Definitely unpredictable and exciting every step of the way. Full of twists and turns that you don’t see coming! Pretty dark but also hopeful. It left me hanging on the edge of my seat! I can’t wait for the third book!
I absolutely loved this book and haven’t been able to put it down! The author has created a world that is so original and exciting and characters whose inner dialogues I really resonated with. We can all see ourselves in their struggles to find their place in the world. I can’t wait to find out what’s next for Kiria and Firian!
Do you feel blood spattering your face where you sit? You must have read this book.
Do you feel the raw lust for power and unresolved sexual tension? That’s this book. I haven’t read fantasy for 30 odd years and I had forgotten what a romp it is.
I was previewing for my tween son - happy to say it’s not too spicey for him. If I had any slight criticism I’d say it felt too long in places and its 63 chapters could be cut down. I also grew weary of the main two protagonists perspectives and longed for a bit of third person omniscient for a change of pace or to flesh out the world. I’m guessing first person keeps the YA romantic tension up. All good fun though and a safe space for teens or others to live out their fantasies.
Part 2 of the tanyuin academy was just as good as the first. Maybe even better. I absolutely adore every character and can not wait to read part 3. Firian kiria bard and Belik are all absolutely amazing. This is such a beautifully written story. Carly Stephens has such a wonderful fascinating imagination. I am so excited to see more from her!!!
