You are mine now. Mine to play with. Mine to break.

He is secrets, danger and passion. He is forbidden sin.
And now he holds the key to destroy all I hold dear.

The Dark Fae prince never told me his name. Not when he tried to seduce me, and not before he purposely botched one of my jobs and stole what was mine -- a dangerous relic with unlimited power. It has the ability to break kingdoms… and tear down the wall that separates the human world from the dangerous, wyld magic of the fae.

He knows that I will do anything to protect my family. Even follow him beyond the wall, into his lands.

Mortals aren't allowed in the Obsidian Kingdom. Those who're caught are killed…or turned into captives. Playthings of the Dark King and his royal family.

That's what the prince to turn me into his toy. To play with. To break.

But I'm not the kind of toy he's used to.

I will play the games of lust and passion so that I can learn the rules. So that I can break them.

And then I will take back what is mine and claim my revenge. Not all mortal women are delicate flowers--some have thorns.

The Queen has done it again! Daisy's story is my top read of this year!

I absolutely LOVE how she wrote the Fae. Vicious, cunning, sexy, and arrogant. They say, "Never trust the Fae," but what happens when you make a deal you didn't know you made? You do everything in your power to survive, and that's exactly what Daisy has to do!

Daisy went from our little gremlin to his little dove, and I am here for it! The challenges, magic, and world building are top tier. The banter and laugh out loud moments kept me wanting more and not able to put this book down.

This book is a contender for top book of the year for me hands down.

I knew going in that I was in for a ride with Daisy getting her own spinoff. What I didn't expect was that this book would be so incredibly well written. I don't mean that I didn't expect it to be well-written in terms of grammar or storytelling. That is always a given with Breene for me personally, but the pacing and storyline completely deviated from what I built up in my mind in the best way!

This book was darker than Breene's typical reads, but not exactly dark, if that makes sense? The tone was darker, not the content itself. And it was flawlessly executed.

You have Daisy, a human living amongst supernatural creatures who had to learn how to fend for herself long before she should've needed to.

Then, you have Tarian. We briefly meet him in DoSF, but not for long. He's cocky, cunning, and is Daisy's perfect match.

Obsidian is a masterclass in character development, action, and everything I love about Portal Fantasy.

This book gave me LOTR meets Fever series vibes in all of the best ways while remaining true to Breene's writing style and originality.

You'll love this book if you like:

Thank you SO much to KF Breene and Keri for the opportunity to early ARC read this incredible book! I cannot wait to see what direction this takes.

This was my first time reading anything by this author—but it sure as hell won’t be the last!
I was on the hunt for something new when I stumbled across Obsidian. The cover immediately grabbed my attention with its dark, moody vibe and one seriously sexy dude front and center. After reading the blurb, I knew I had to give it a shot.

I’ve read hundreds of dark fae books with sexy, cunning, and handsome male leads, but Prince Tarianthiel Drystan Windryker was something totally fresh. He’s a smart, tricky bastard with the face of a fallen angel and a body that practically oozes sin. I kept swinging between wanting to punch him in the face or climb him like a tree! He’s arrogant, cocky, and a total asshole—but damn, he’s talented with his hands and mouth. 😂

Daisy? She’s a stab-first, ask-questions-later kind of chick, and I adored her! She’s smart, sassy, and doesn’t take crap from anyone. The chemistry and banter between her and Tarian are absolutely electric—steamy one moment, laugh-out-loud hilarious the next. Neither of them backs down, and it makes for such entertaining reading.

And that twist at the end? Let’s just say book two is going to be wild. I can’t wait to see if they kill each other… or fall hopelessly in love. With these two, anything could happen! Just because Tarian dishes out mind-blowing orgasms doesn’t mean Daisy won’t off him the moment their deal is up. 😂

K.F. Breene is a phenomenal storyteller, and the pacing and character development in this book are on point. I’m hooked. Book two can’t get here fast enough—it’s going to be one hell of a ride!

Until next time, luvs! 💋😉

If you've read K.F. Breene's Demigods of San Francisco series and were hoping to see more from that world, you are in luck. Obsidian follows Daisy, the morally grey teenager with stabby tendencies and uncanny survival skills, that you first met in DoSF. But now, Daisy is all grown up and fiercer than ever. One of the things I love about Daisy though is that she is not just all sass and viciousness. She is so incredibly resilient and loyal, a total black cat but one who would do anything to protect those who have earned her love and trust. In fact, both main characters are more complex & nuanced than they may initially appear. Tarian is the perfect cunning, ruthless, and cocky fae villain you can’t help but like, but with Daisy, we are able to see another side to him. Maybe he has more of a softer side than he lets on or maybe he is just playing the game. It was interesting trying to figure out what is real and what his true desires and motives are.

In true K.F. Breene fashion, the tension and chemistry between our MCs is off the charts. Their banter and back and forth is superb; it is full of the "I hate that I want you" vibes that I love. And I got a huge kick out of how into Daisy's viciousness Tarian is. It reminded me of Casteel and Poppy in that he enjoys her savage side and finds it adorable, even when it is directed at him. Sprinkle in the "mine" moments and the touch her and d!e (slowly & painfully) vibes that Tarian delivers, and I ate it up with a spoon. There isn't a lot of spice, but what is there brings the heat, and the simmering tension and attraction is just waiting to boil over in the next book.

Obsidian has a little darker tone than its predecessor series, but I wouldn't consider it a particularly dark romance. It is still laced with Breene's signature humor that had me literally laughing out loud at times. If you're a fan of Breene, you know that her side characters can sometimes steal the show, and this book is no different. Their quips and one-liners left me in stitches. While we don't see them often, I enjoyed the peeks into their characters and dynamics, and I am expecting we'll see more from them in the next book.

This book is a fun and intriguing ride from start to finish. The plot twists at the end took what I thought I knew and flipped it on its head. I did not see them coming and am excited to see where they lead. I can't wait for the next book!

I received an advanced review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

We're not in San Francisco anymore...

KF Breene has brought us to a whole new realm where DemiGods don't rule and can't get in, but the Fae do, and the games they play are wicked.   This dark and sexy duology is a whole different realm and world. Can Daisy learn to survive as a human among the fae? Will she be able to resist the witty, sexy, and cunning Fae that hunts her dreams? What won't Daisy sacrifice for her family's wellbeing?

I knew I was going to love Obsidian before even starting it because simply put, K.F. Breene wrote it and she is incapable of writing a bad book.. and honestly, it even exceeded my expectations! Daisy was such a lovable little sarcastic badass in the Demigods of San Francisco series & now years later into her training, she’s really thrived as the only human in a found family of magical people. Speaking of her found family, seeing Lexi, Kieran, Mordecai, the 6, Bria, Dylan, Jerry, and Amber again was like stepping into a warm hug 🫂 I missed this crew and desperately needed this new installment!

*There are three spicy scenes in Obsidian. I’ve included the pages/percentages at the bottom of this review.*

Obsidian takes place about 5 years after Demigods ends and Daisy is now 19. She hasn’t forgotten the fae (even dreams about him often) that caused destruction at the Summit all those years ago, so when he suddenly reappears, she’s ready to kill him for what he did. The fae has other plans though and marks her so that she cannot kiss another man or he will come to kill them. This also unfortunately acts as a “contract” to allow him passage into the human realm.

Daisy also learns that the fae is searching for a chalice that will allow the fae to destroy the Faegate and gain full access to the human realm. This would mean utter destruction for humans because the fae are known to be ruthless. She will do anything to keep him from obtaining the chalice; so her and her family set out to find it before he can.

Unfortunately, Daisy finds herself captured by a group of fae and the not-so-white knight to come to the rescue is none other than her fae, Tarian. Even more unfortunately, after “saving” her he essentially forces her to make the treacherous crossing to the fae realm to be used as a pawn in his political machinations.

Daisy and Tarian have this inexplicable magnetic draw to each other, which complicates the whole wanting to kill each other thing and makes their dialogue really freaking funny! I really enjoyed getting to see the way they worked together as a team, worked through (and are still working through) the betrayals, and learning all the history right alongside Daisy. I really really cannot wait for the next book!!

This is just a random appreciate for K.F. Breene including this in the book - Daisy at one point has an aura migraine & I have NEVER seen this represented in a book before. It was kind of neat to see it explained because I too suffer from them and the vision impairment is so hard to describe to people but Queen Breene did it perfectly! 🫶🏻

Favorite quotes:

You are mine now. Mine to play with. Mine to break. I do not share. If someone threatens you, they are threatening my property. I will deal with them in kind.

“You are so much more than a mere Chester. So much more than a human. You have the radiance of a god.”

“Daisy. Such a dainty name that fits this petite, doll-like creature I see before me. And so perfectly hides the monstrous beast that rages within. It is truly a pleasure.”

Istorijos tempas irgi gan keistas.

I’m not sure I can accurately describe how much I’ve loved this book. The action was amazing, the banter was superb, and the storyline kept me engaged the entire time.

Once again, this author has created characters that I love and characters that I want to… Well, let’s keep it PG. I have loved this FMC since she made her appearance in the original series the Demi gods. The fact that she has her own spinoff has brought me no measurable amount of delight . I have been looking forward to this book since it was a twinkle in this author’s eye.

Daisy is strong, has a smart mouth, and inspires loyalty. She is a perfectly imperfect FMC. The fact that she goes through so much to keep her family safe and to do what she must is inspiring. I love that we see a progression and that she didn’t just instantly become strong. She worked hard for it.

I don’t want to give up too much about the MMC, but I love him. His character, personality, story… Everything really spoke to me. As we go through, and more gets revealed, it just made me feel even more connected to him and more invested in where the story is going.

I cannot wait to see where the next book will take us.

Daisy was a favorite character in the Demigods of SF series, so when I heard that she was getting her own series, I knew I'd be reading it.

I liked that this one is a few years later, the kids are grown up, the family still tight. So much so that they hid and let slip things to Daisy to protect her and get her to get vengeance on someone who needed it.

The cat and mouse game between Daisy and Tarian drove me nuts and bored me a bit, even when they were on their own and in fairie. It was only at the end when we learn more about the chalices that things got very interesting and sadly the book ended. Which makes me now looking forward to the next one.

Obsidian is book 1 of 2 in the continuing universe of Demigods of San Francisco. it was written so you don't have read the 6 books of Demigods series first but I strongly encourage to do so.

The Demigods series is a favorite. The found family theme is one I enjoy. Funny and charming complimenting characters that take you from deep belly laughs to series tear jerking moments.

Obsidian continues with Daisy one of the supporting characters from Demigods. I liked that a couple of years passed, but there wasn't a sequence of events that left you feeling in the dark. Instead I stepped right back into the fun with the entire crew, but it didnt stay in the same setting. At no point did I feel like oh, this is how its going as is the case sometimes when you continue a story in the same world. I also really liked that this story mostly takes place in the Fae realm and only builds on Demigods, your getting a wholly new story with new characters, creatures, and obstacles.

The storyline moves along quickly since the need for indepth world building was already set during Demigods. Lots of action, laughter, and a couple of heated moments kept the pages turning. I'm ordering the audio so I can listen and see what I missed in the first pass.

There are no huge cliff hangers, but I still will anxiously be awaiting the second book! Thankfully it's only a few short months away!

10 out of 10 I would absolutely recommend!

Dnf chapter 15.

This was not for me.

I guess that means I don't like Breene's spin-off books.

This is a spin-off from Demigods of San Francisco.

The other book I dnf'd from Breene was a spin-off from Deliciously Dark Fairytales.

Well, now I know, and will keep to the series and skip the spin-offs.

I wish I liked it ...

I have waited with bated breath for this book and I was not disappointed at all.

Obsidian is everything I knew it would be and then some. The tone is ominous and feels a little darker than others. I would have liked to have it written in multiple POV, but I still loved Daisy's story. I need the second book now.

Daisy has always felt like the odd one out, but Zorn has taught her to use the abilities she has been taught to her defense, and use them she does as she battles her way through the Fae land with the one she loves to hate and hates to love.

Not to be missed. Obsidian is everything and more.

Absolutely OBSESSED! A Must-Read Romantasy, Urban Fantasy Gem! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

K.F. Breene has delivered an absolute masterpiece with Obsidian! From the very first chapter, I was completely hooked by the unique premise, the action-packed plot, and the unforgettable characters. This book is a whirlwind of magic, danger, witty banter, and simmering tension that will leave you breathless and desperate for more.

Daisy, our protagonist, is everything I love in a heroine and then some. She's a non-magical "Chester" navigating a brutal magical world, but she's far from helpless. Armed with knives, incredible training, and a sharp wit, she takes on opponents twice her size with fearless determination. Her internal monologue is pure gold, making you laugh even in the face of deadly peril. As she puts it, facing a huge magical man twice her age and size, "fighting fair was just irresponsible." This perfectly encapsulates her pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to survival. Her journey is one of constant challenge and growth, and you can't help but root for her every step of the way.

The world-building is rich and fascinating, blending the magical and non-magical societies in a way that feels both fresh and perilous. The concept of the dual-society zone and the dangers lurking within it immediately pulls you into this complex reality. But it's the found family dynamic that truly anchors the story. Daisy's bond with Lexi, Mordecai, and the rest of their crew is the heart of the book. Their loyalty to each other is fierce and unwavering, providing moments of warmth and humor amidst the darkness. "We’re a family. We fight together," is a mantra that resonates deeply throughout the narrative.

And then there's Tarian. The enigmatic, dangerously charming fae prince who throws Daisy's world into beautiful, terrifying chaos. Their interactions crackle with undeniable chemistry and a thrilling push-and-pull dynamic. He calls her his "little dove," a nickname dripping with possessiveness and a hint of playful menace. Their connection is unlike anything Daisy (or the reader!) has experienced before, a mix of danger and undeniable attraction that keeps you on the edge of your seat. His ability to read her mind leads to some truly hilarious and revealing moments, showcasing the stark contrast between Daisy's tough exterior and her inner thoughts. As he observes, "Your mind is truly a dizzying place."

The plot is relentless, with twists and turns that keep you guessing. From intense fight scenes where Daisy demonstrates her brutal efficiency – "She slammed the blade into his body. It squelched as it came back out, and then she jammed it in again" – to uncovering ancient secrets about the Faegate and the true nature of the crystal chalice, there's never a dull moment. The introduction of the Celestials and the escalating danger adds layers of suspense, building towards a climax that leaves you reeling and desperate for the next book.

Obsidian is a masterclass in urban fantasy, blending thrilling action, captivating characters, and a compelling plot with effortless skill. K.F. Breene has created a world and a heroine that I won't soon forget. If you're looking for a book that will grab you by the throat and not let go, this is it. Five stars are simply not enough!

🌶🌶 (no full scene, but definitely hot 🥵🥵🥵)

Daisy finally gets her own book!!! The moment I saw it announced, I pre-ordered immediately (yes, I was that excited) and started reading the second it hit my Kindle.

Quick note: If you haven’t read the Sin & Chocolate series, you might miss a lot, especially all the family dynamics and background that make this story so rich. Can you technically read this as a standalone? Sure. Would I recommend it? Absolutely not. The world-building from the original series (which spans six books) adds so much depth and context to this one, and in my opinion, this book really leans on that foundation.

We get to see Daisy all grown up, now a badass assassin and skilled thief. When she finds out that Mordecai got hurt by some girl he was dating, she decides to take revenge. But instead of a simple payback, she stumbles straight into a mess of fae politics she wants absolutely nothing to do with. Unfortunately for Daisy, she was always destined to get tangled up with the fae. As a kid, she saw one who promised he’d be back one day... but she never actually believed him.

After accidentally activating a fae artifact she stole, everything spirals out of control. She ends up captured, dragged through a portal into the fae world, and forced to travel with the grumpiest, most dangerous fae she’s ever met: Tarian. He swears he’ll break her, play with her, and turn her into his personal toy if they can even survive the journey to the kingdom.

🚨🚨🚨Spoiler alert (kind of) 🚨🚨🚨

Spice level:
There aren’t any fully explicit scenes yet, but the tension? Off. The. Charts. The moments we do get are detailed, steamy, and so, so good. If you’ve read the author’s other series, you’ll know she loves a good slow burn, and I fully expect things to escalate in the next book. The tension alone had me sweating. 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

I’ll definitely be rereading this one when the next book drops!

I was so excited for this book. I love the DemiGods books and the characters are awesome. And Daisy has long been one of my favorites of that series. She's tough, wily, and funny. She keeps other characters on their toes and never backs down even though she has no powers.

I was SO looking forward to this book.

I am SO disappointed. Even though I love the previous series and most KF Breene--seriously what was this?

1) it doesn't stand alone. AT ALL. There is no attempt to give the framework of the Demigods series, which is probably intentional because they are mostly out the window. Instead this book is branching into a fae realm--oh great, new horrible badguys. I mean, WHY? Why do this? Were none of the current group/world good enough to make a hero for Daisy?

2) NO new Daisy. I'm sorry but when you take a side character and make them a heroine, we should get more. More insight into her nature and thoughts and history and instead, Daisy is flatter as a character in this book than she was in the first series. She's not... fun to read.

3) Stupidly complex and prosey writing. I don't know what happened to Breene's style but this was so hard to slog through. It felt heavy as writing instead of light. I think because of an abundance of world building on this whole new realm, set of powers, etc.

4) stupid and obnoxious hero. Was he supposed to be threatening? Alluring? I didn't get any sense of chemistry between them and his weird toying with her and threats and overly complicated stuff... was just a bit much.

Yeah, I'm grumbling a lot and I'll be the first one star review, which is hard. But I couldn't even finish it. Maybe I'll come back sometime and try again.

K.F. Breene has this incredible ability to write witty and humorous banter, and to create emotionally charged scenes that absolutely pull at your heartstrings. Obsidian is no exception.

While this is an offshoot of the Demigods of San Francisco series, you don’t need to have read those prior to reading Obsidian. Breene fills you in on the previous particulars without making it feel like a recap, the details are simply woven into the story.

The only thing I didn’t necessarily like is that the term fairy is used frequently and everything I’ve read regarding the Fae states that they don’t like that term and not to use it, especially to a Fae. But honestly, this book was so damn good that it stopped bothering me relatively quickly.

Obsidian is full of action and suspense.
My mouth literally dropped open at the end of chapter 22… I don’t think that’s ever happened when I was reading. And the ending? Oof. I need book 2 immediately.

If you like paranormal romance, strong female characters, and brilliant storytelling, then read Obsidian.

Oh, look: Daisy, a smol hooman bean manages to repeatedly outwit both human and supernatural foes thanks to a lethal combination of four measly years of "training" and a Sassy Personality™. There's defeating the odds, and then there's giving the odds the silent treatment because it's more convenient (lazy).
And then you have Tarian, Mr. Bad and Bougie Fae, who she can't outwit because he can read her mind. Effortlessly. But obviously if he didn't possess that skill, she'd definitely beat him at his own game. For sure.
On top of this never-ending mental violation is the constant reiterations of the many ways he's going to degrade Daisy and make her his pet. So romantic. I'm assuming he's supposed to be an antihero, but he just comes across as a flamboyant clown.

The last chapter was the only good thing about this drawn out snooze fest.

I really tried to like this, like I really tried but I was just bored.

The first issue for me came when I realised this was a continuation of an earlier series, which I had read but so long ago that I barely remember it. This story really relies on you remembering the characters, their back story and the dynamics of the group. It doesn’t hold your hand building this back up for you.
What I thought I remembered was the group having a fun dynamic with lots of banter and chemistry. Unfortunately what I got what lots of info dumping and repetitive bland jokes and dated cliches.

I can only really talk to the story for the section I read but it was just so boring and dry. Daisy’s thoughts and conversations were very repetitive and just boring. I also really struggled to believe she was a young as she’s meant to be. She reads like a middle aged mum. Her fashionable outfits are very dated (authors please stop describing outfits in such detail, even if it works on release it will date your books very quickly) and her inner monologue literally says at one point “She was the type of woman who, when her feet hit the floor in the morning, the devil said, “Oh shit, she’s up.”” Honestly I rolled my eyes so hard.
The story line with the chalice just didn’t interest me at all. I can’t quite describe the feeling but the scenes felt really robotic and formulaic, like there was no heart in the story and everyone was just going through the motions.

I also felt like Daisy and the MMC (I already can’t remember his name) had zero chemistry. I know these fae characters are always much older than the female love interest but this time it really felt like it. The way he spoke to her was so condescending, almost like her was talking to a child who had no knowledge. I could not get past that at all and the spice scene that I read felt like it came out of nowhere and it was over just a quick, it was forced in there in such an unnatural way. There’s definitely a knack to having snark between characters and having their snappy banter build their chemistry, this isn’t it.

I haven’t had a lot of luck with this author lately which is a shame because I’ve enjoyed some of their work in the past. Maybe this is where I stop reading their books and leave them to those that are enjoying them.

I received an eARC and what can I say is wow! I love the series and was excited for Daisy book! The book kept me guessing and when I was sure I knew what was going on I was surprised by a curve ball. You need to read the Demigods book first
