King Sports #2

The Office Bet

Rate this book
Fox

There are only three things in life I'm passionate about: my family, sports, and hating Archer Holloway.

He's the most prolific associate at the firm and out earns everyone at our level. Plus, he's annoyingly good-looking and is somehow able to charm everyone. Everyone except me.

His athlete roster might be impressive, but his tactics for signing clients can be questionable at best.

So, when the chance arises to stealthily pitch to someone he's gunning for, I don't hesitate.

Two can play at this game.

Archer

I don't understand why Lincoln Fox hates me. Okay, so maybe I signed a few athletes he was pursuing, but that's not personal. It's business.

I really do think he'd come to like me if he got to know me. He won't give me the time of day though. He never has. Which is a shame because Fox is the most attractive man I've ever met.

The more he argues with me, the more everyone around us thinks there's a spark between us. The office pool is over two thousand dollars now, but they're backing the wrong horse. No one will win this bet because the chance of us hooking up are less than zero. Fox will never see me as anything more than an over-competitive jerk. Everyone is wasting their money.

Damn Archer Holloway. His words used to make me hate him; now, they make my clothes disappear.

I adore a semi-one sided dislike to lovers situation and this one was really enjoyable to read. Fox dislikes Archer for being overly competitive and stealing a prospective client out from under him. For Archer, coming in second just means you're the first place loser, and that's not an option. He's immediately attracted to Fox and spends the next few years that they're colleagues falling first and falling hardest. I really like the sense of history these two have, and that their love grows slowly over time. As Fox gets to know Archer better, he realizes that there's more to him than meets the eye.
I’m thinking all my preconceived ideas about Fox were wrong.
Uptight? No, he’s efficient.
Insecure? Not at all.
Would look good coming undone? Okay, that one I’ve always been right about.

Archer and Fox's love story is wonderfully written but the snarky, iconic, legendary Asher Dalton steals the show for me in this book. I've his adored his character since Line Mates & Study Dates and the very first time he said "eat shit and die". There are so many charming little cameos in this book and I loved reconnecting with Asher and a few other characters from past books. The cameos don't feel gratuitous, they actually add to the story and aren't overdone. Overall I really liked the book and laughed out loud several times.
hypothetically, if I wasn’t me and you weren’t you, would you hook up with me?” “No. Because you said you wouldn’t be you and I wouldn’t be me, so how would I know what the other me would do if you were the other you?” “What?” “Exactly!”

This book was so entertaining!!

If you're an Asher Dalton fan, you will love this. The way Archer and Fox are competing to sign the Dalton brothers but neither is keen to take on Asher had me laughing so hard, Asher is a sweetheart!!! 😂 I am a huge fan of Asher's, obviously, and there was so much content with him. We even get a Kole appearance and that's like seeing a unicorn in the wild... the way Archer thinks Kole will be the voice of reason though.... 😂

The rivalry between Fox and Archer is funny, and Fox's accidental sabotage totally won the war for me. I really loved how they were both so nervous about admitting they felt anything, but mostly it was the way they support each other and show they care that had my heart feeling all squishy.

I loved the office bet too 😂 Fox's disgust was hilarious but the winning bet was so sneaky and I loved it. I would have liked to see more reaction to the news they were actually together though!

We also get plenty of Damon time, as well as appearances from Maddox, Quinny, Vance, Oskar and Talon. I loved seeing Emmy going for his goal too - it feels like Puckboys next gen. My favourite part of the Sadenverse is how every book feels like a little reunion and I always forget someone who's popped up.

I'm so keen to see what's coming next in this series though. Will there be stories for Jeremiah, Raff, Wylder.... I'm honestly so excited to find out!!

By this point I have to admit I’m genuinely disappointed with the stories set in Damon’s sports agency. What could have been a really good rivals romance ended up sidelined, leaving the book feeling unbalanced.

On paper this is a 3⭐ read, but I’m knocking down a star because the love story was pushed too far into the background.

🟡 2 sports agents, rivals
🔵 Both gay
🟣 Some size difference
🟢 A secret crush, pining that wasn't addressed much
🔵 Both in their late 20's
🌶️ Some sex, it's descriptive but it's just a few hook-ups, nothing dramatic; rimming, oral, penetrative; t/b

The first half of the book sets up a rivalry between Archer and Fox, the two biggest competitors in Damon’s LA office. Unfortunately, the rivalry itself isn't as engaging, the dialogues are mediocre and it all leads to an uneventful second half where the Asher Dalton drama begins. That part is also underdeveloped and does little to bring the main characters any closer than a casual FWB arrangement.

By the final chapters, love suddenly appears, but of course it does. Though I did appreciate that Archer admitted he was “in like” with Fox first, rather than jumping straight to some big declarations of love.
They do get to the love part eventually and it's really not a big deal because Archer and Fox as a couple aren't a big deal in this book.

Archer’s family makes a few appearances, but their involvement adds little to the story. The abundance of side characters steals the spotlight from Archer and Fox too often and by the end you’re left with a couple so forgettable that they fade the moment you put the book down.

Wylder is clearly getting his own book, and I’m guessing it’ll be with Zaka. So, for the love of god, I’m begging this author to make it more interesting and engaging than anything we’ve seen so far in this series.

And please, please pick a good cover, because honestly, the covers so far have been terrible for my visual sensibilities.

Tropes: workplace romance, arrivals to lovers
Feels: 2/5
Steam*: 2/5
Kinks: n/a
Angst: low
HEA: yes
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings/representation: unsupportive and emotionally/verbally abusive father
Cheating between MCs: No
Any cheating: No
Other person drama: once the book starts, neither of them really have any interest in anyone else. Though they have known each other for 4 years, and in that time they were both going about their lives hooking up with other people, they were never an option for each other or a real interest. Which kind of makes the tension and romance between them suffer a little. Archer was interested when he first met fox, but it became clear right away it wasn't reciprocated so he shut it down.

3.5 stars

Archer and Fox are both in their late twenties and they are working as sports agents at the same company. They have a rivalry that has lasted the entire four years that they've worked together. They have a reputation amongst the staff there for not getting along. There's an extremely popular office bet going on about whether they'll do various things, there are odds on them hooking up, getting married, killing each other, punching each other, etc.

Archer comes from a family of athletes and has a lot of pressure on him because his father is emotionally and verbally abusive, and the father puts a very toxic pressure on all his children. He has reputation for stealing clients, but he has a good motivation behind what he's doing. He wants to take on a lot of little clients in order to help them to make money in ways other than their traditional sports contract because he knows not everyone can hit the big bucks that way and his athletes need to be set up better for their lives, earning income while they can.

Fox comes from a good home environment. But he has let work take over his life. Over the last year he's been trying really hard to compete with Archer, and he's pushed everyone away accidentally without even realizing that he hasn't been in contact with his family or friends. He's always kept work and his personal life separate, he's never socialized with the office colleagues outside of work.

When Damon, their boss, announces that he is giving up a bunch of his clients so that he can start shifting gears edging a little closer to retirement, and more towards managing the overall business, Archer and Fox feel like they are competing for Damon's clients. In particular there is a race for them to try to win over Emmett and Asher Dalton as clients. They're forced to work together and spend more time together. And there is sexual tension between them.

This was a decent read. There's good world building in this series. There's a lot of familiar faces that you feel fond of. The characters have good motivations, there's plot conflict. I liked how when Archer sensed that Fox might be attracted to him he capitalized on that opportunity and pursued him. On paper it's a good story. I wish there was more humor to it though. There wasn't a lot of humor in it, and the moments that were supposed to be funny weren't intensely funny. The shenanigans weren't popping.

Also, the biggest complaint I have is that it wasn't very strong on the romance. For a huge portion of the book and also over their four year history before the book started, it just felt like the characters didn't care that much about each other? I feel like we haven't been shown enough of that tension to make us understand why everybody thinks they're going to hook up. They just seemed cold together for a big hunk of the book. Neither were actually thinking of the other person sexually for the four years they knew each other or the 40% at the beginning of the book. They haven't been pining or lusting after each other. They've just been arguing. I've definitely seen hate to love books done better, where it was so visceral to everyone around them that a couple was on the edge of lust/love. This is a perfect example of why I thought the romance was lacking. At 87%, Archer is only then starting to think of Fox as more than a hookup. And at 90% they still have no faith in their relationship. "Because even though I want to see where this can go, I’m still confident the answer is nowhere."

Some notable moments:

Asher breaking and entering Quinn's house and coming out with a toddler was the funniest moment. "Is it still considered breaking and entering if you know the person? Not that I know the person. Is a B and E a felony? I stare at the kid, who is sleeping on Dalton’s shoulder. What about kidnapping? “How about we put the baby back where you found him, leave a note for your friend Quinn to say hi, bye, whatever, and then we can get out of here and pretend this never happened.” Dalton screws up his face. “If we pretend it never happened, how would we explain the note?” He turns to Kole. “I don’t think this agent is very smart. Maybe I shouldn’t sign with him.” At this point, I’m almost ready to say, “Please don’t.”"

"Considering Damon is adamant this firm isn’t a matchmaking service and that fraternization isn’t allowed or is at least highly frowned upon, I think it’s obvious as we glance around this room that he’s a romantic at heart and can’t hold a grudge against any of us who have broken the rules. Hell, by the time he found out about us, it wasn’t so much a lecture on being in the wrong but a resigned sigh of defeat. He’s totally a romantic."

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

Bloody brilliant!

Oh my lawd this book is everything I hoped it was going to be and then some. I do love me an office rivalry romance and, when you get down into the nitty gritty of this one, it's easy to see how Archer Holloway and Lincoln Fox have ended up in this position.

Of course, there's far more to what's on the surface and as both men are made to work together to support the Dalton brothers (and yes we get loads of Asher antics that had me howling), things take a turn.

A turn for the my real thoughts come out when I'm drunk front in Fox's case as it becomes very clear that there's some seriously repressed feelings there not only about Archer, but also about how Fox has become someone he doesn't recognise himself.

There's some wonderfully honest communication in this book, that doesn't always occur when Fox has indulged in a tad too much spiced rum, but because Archer genuinely does like Fox, always has, and he's never quite understood why he's been enemy number one since his office arrival.

He pushes Fox to the limit and, eventually, he snaps and the UST that's been there since the start, gets a full workover. But, it's always been about more than just finding each other attractive and not knowing what to do about it.

They push and pull at each other because they're scared of failure, they're envious of what they see in the other as strengths they don't have, and both men fail to realise that they've been pushing each other into being even more competitive, instead of collaborative.

Our man Damon's on hand mind, to lay down some home truths, to push them together, and to make them have to find a way forward otherwise the Dalton contract is toast.

The banter and the snark in this one is superb, never mind the chaos, it's a perfect blend of King Sports and Puckboy guest appearances, and the romance itself, one Fox gets out of his own way, is really beautiful.

Archer gets Lincoln, he's just been waiting for the other guy to see him properly too, and once he does, well all bets are on!

There's so much potential in this series, I cannot wait to see where Eden takes things next, but I absolutely adored watching Archer and Lincoln fall in love.

I. Got. Bored.

I tried. The writing is great (as always with Eden Finley) I suppose it's a me thing. The surrounding world this takes place in just does not interest me. You really, REALLY need to accept that there is a LOT of office/work speak in this story. You follow them to meetings and work strategies.
I'm already skimming past that to get to the story I actually want to read about.
I have to say that drunk Fox is freaking adorable and a joy to read.
But then the push-pull isn't all that exciting. I'm not in love with either of them. Both Fox and Asher feel bland to me.

Sorry😊

"Apart from Archer, I get along with everyone in the office on a professional level. I find real friendships with coworkers are a recipe for disaster. Some people have a no-dating-a-coworker rule; mine is a no-being-friends rule."

The Office Bet is book 2 in Eden Finley's King Sports series, which is set in the world of sports agents and their love interests. Lots of cameos and references to other characters in the Sadenverse in this one, notably Asher Dalton, who was always my favourite in the CU Hockey series. This one is Fox and Archer's story.

What To Expect:

❣️MM romance
❣️Office rivals
❣️Rivals to lovers
❣️All the steam
❣️All the snark
❣️LOL moments
❣️Cute AF

This was such a good time!! It was everything I expected it to be when I pick up an Eden Finley book!!!

Fox and Archer’s banter was so much fun! I loved the competitive nature between them but I also liked that each interaction seemed to give them pause when it came to what they got out of competing or bantering with each other. Fox had moments where he stopped to take into consideration why he felt so negatively towards Archer and Archer had to consider why Fox reacted to him the way he did. It made both of them better for it without always realizing it.

I enjoyed seeing their relationship change and
seeing Fox come out of his shell and Archer take things more seriously so they were able to learn more about each other while slowly letting each other in. Seeing this develop into them working more as a team and later into how their relationship changes was nice.

I of course love it when we get cameos!!! It’s always such a good time when you get to see everyone together. I’m excited to see what’s next!

Fox and Archer are rival sports agents in Damon King’s sports agency, King Sports, a very lucrative LGBTQIA+ agency representing athletes from all sports. Fox and Archer started around the same time and have basically been trying to get each other’s clients for as long as they’ve been there. The tension between them is crazy, and sparks the entire office to have a bet on whether or not they hook up. When Asher Dalton and his younger brother Emmett are up for a new agent as Damon retires, Fox and Archer each set out to visit one brother. When the brothers say they want both of them to represent them, the two have to learn how to work together in close quarters for the best interest of their clients.

I loved Fox and Archer! They were similar enough that they ended up in the same field but also so different. Their rivalry was really cute and Eden did amazing building up their tension. Asher is my FAVORITE CU character and I was so freaking excited to see him again. And it was so fun seeing Emmett all grown up. Overall, I think Eden did a really great job with this one and I can’t wait to see what happens with the new names that we meet in the end of the book.

As for the Brad Marchand mention in the book, too soon Eden. Too soon. 🤣🤣

A Rivalry Four Years in the Making

I was laughing from page seven until the very end. When I tell you King Sports is more matchmaking agency than sports agency, believe me!

Archer has had a crush on Fox from the start, but Fox has been a bit of a Judgemental McJudge since day one. That’s why it took them four years of ridiculous rivalry before they could even have a normal conversation. And yes, the whole thing was built on a dumb misunderstanding 🙄 Can you believe it?

What I loved most is that they didn’t just go from heated rivalry to heated attraction overnight. This romance takes the scenic route: hate, tolerance, annoyance, indifference, likeability, admiration, trust, and finally, love. Slow burn perfection.

Also, I loved the Miller and Talon cameos! I love them so much.

Now, I do have a complaint to file. Back in my review of The Backup Plan (book one in this series) I mentioned it would be cool if Archer and Fox shared the same love interest and their book became a MMM poly romance. And I swear to god Eden saw my review and decided to mock me!, because in this book both Archer and Fox make comments about the new employee and how beautiful he is, and his pretty eyes, his good looks... All the while I was like “Sir, this is very inappropriate behavior! Control yourself” 😅🤣🤣🤣 And that same employee is caught making heart eyes at both of them 😐😯 All this gave hope 😥 But my hope was green, and a cow ate it 😵‍💫😭😭😭😭

Anyways, I have zero proof, but no doubts either 🤣🤣🤣 Where do I submit my formal complaint? 🙄😬😅

I loved this book. It’s funny, chaotic, and Archer and Fox’s journey from rivals to friends to lovers is wholesome and sweet. I cannot wait for the next book.

Also, I have more theories for the books to come. Like a certain hockey player meeting his Formula 1 idol… are we getting a racing series next? ❤️‍🔥🙏📿🕯️🛐

I don’t need sleep, I need answers! And more books 🙂‍↕️😉

Book 2 of the king sports series which Id read as a standalone.

Fox began an office enemies thing 4 years go when Archer moved into company building.
Fox has an attitude towards Archer as soon as this book started telling their backstory.
Okay so they sound like children unable to get over themselves trying to one up each other.
Archer learns of an office bet going around for Fox and him to start something between them.
A competition between them to see who lands Asher onto their accounts. But a situation cropped up when theyd worked together for two clients.

I think I would’ve loved this if it was written in a different pov, I got lost at who was talking.
I gave this away because of this. DNF

Although Asher Dalton isn’t my favorite CU player (Teddy&Topher forever!) 😄, I was still very excited to get him back for a while. He and Kole still make so much sense together. A little more of Emmett would have been nice too.

Anyway, I really liked this story of Archer and Fox (although Archer and Asher in one book? Those names are way too similar for the non-native community)
I didn’t really understand why Fox was so uptight (especially because he was called uptight so many times). His backstory was a bit lacking. The rest of the book though… 😍

Since my favorite hockey books of all times are co-written by this author she gets a lot of slack. So maybe this book isn’t the best ever. Still 5 stars though 😄

Will reread an recommend (and am very curious if I still love it the second time around because I know I’ll be more critical then) 🤣

i loved getting to see more of the guys from king sports and the some of the characters from the backup plan again! i have been so excited for archer and lincoln’s story since i saw them at the end of the last book, i just knew i would love their dynamic. this was such a fun rivals to lovers story with amazing chemistry between the characters! i love that even after getting more vulnerable with each other that they never lost that teasing, competitive banter that they have. it’s what makes them THEM and i’m so happy it didn’t change, i’m exited to see what comes next!

4.25 ⭐

Eden Finley’s The Office Bet is the second book in the King Sports series, and it has everything we hope for in her books, especially in a rivals-to-lovers story. There’s plenty of sharp banter, great chemistry, and laugh out loud moments. So really, what’s not to love? 😉

Lincoln Fox and Archer Holloway are rival sports agents who started at King Sports around the same time and have been competing ever since. Fox has always bristled at Archer’s competitiveness, and has never forgiven Archer for stealing a client early on, while Archer has his reasons for his “coming second is not an option” attitude. But what Fox doesn’t realize this whole time is that Archer’s been secretly into him for years.

Although their rivalry is pretty much one-sided, their dynamic is full of snark and tension…and a whole lot of unspoken attraction. And I enjoyed watching them slowly shift from rivals to something much more intimate. I liked how their competitiveness wasn’t just funny. There was more vulnerability than I expected (a good thing) in their communication, and I really liked their slow realization that their rivalry has been fuelled as much by admiration and envy as it has by dislike. And when the tension finally boils over, it’s definitely worth the wait.

What I loved most is that the book isn’t only about sparks flying and exchanging fun banter. Fox and Archer challenge each other in ways that make them grow, even when it’s uncomfortable…or maybe even because it is. The humour and softer moments between them is what makes their relationship feel real to me, and because of it their journey from rivals to partners comes across as natural.

The office bet about whether they’d hook up was a fun touch, though I did wish for a few more shocked reactions once the truth came out. That part was kind of lacklustre for me.

There are plenty of cameos from the wider Sadenverse, with the standout being Asher Dalton, who, let’s be honest, steals every scene he’s in. ❤️
There are others who make appearances too, and it’s always great to see familiar faces.

All in all, this is a funny, and surprisingly warm read…and one I’d happily recommend.

I received a copy of this book from the author, and this is my unbiased review.

3.5 stars rounded up!

The first half bored me out of my mind—I ended up skimming through it because it was just sport, sport, and more sport. I prefer when the sport is just the backdrop to the romance, not the main focus.

Thankfully, around the halfway mark the story picked up, the MCs’ interactions got better, and I started to get invested. I’m a sucker for enemies-to-lovers, so in the end I actually liked this book more than the first one in the series. The steam is definitely there and it’s hot!
The sports dynamics are still present, but this time they felt more balanced with the romance, even if the romance development is superficial (almost too much).
We still get the parade of characters from the author’s other series, but this time I found it more manageable.
So overall, I’d recommend it, especially if you don’t mind the sports angle (I do, but it was still worth the read).

I don’t think this series is for me. I loved Damon & Maddox so I was hoping to get into the agency books, but I dnf the first book. I’m going to dnf this one as well.

I made it to 58%, but I’m sorry to say it’s just boring. There are some good moments, but overall not enough to keep my attention.

And it’s just a personal pet peeve, but when the spice is happening, I hate the long internal monologues between action. It completely takes me out of the moment and the connection of the characters to have to hear random things mid blow job.

this was so fun!!! i’m a sucker for a workplace romance and i loved how this really focused on the work part. fox & archer are so good at what they do & it was really fun being part of that!

seeing fox & archer’s relationship grow and develop was so nice! my guys were the definition of rivals and watching them work on that and improve their professional relationship, in addition to their romantic one, was 10/10

i also loveeeee when books mention buffalo so thank you eden for the cameo <333

🤭Humour

I devouuured this book. I absolutely loved the banter and rivalry between our main characters. The story was built up nicely and I felt like the pacing made sense with the characters development.

The side characters absolutely made this story, we had cameos from some old and current faves, work drama, plenty of shenanigans and a light dose of tension. 💕

I’m so thankful for the King Sports series and can’t wait to see where it goes next!

The Damonverse is my favorite place to be 🥰

Ever since Fox and Archer were introduced in The Backup Plan, I’ve been wanting their story. Thank goodness we didn’t have to wait long, they didn’t disappoint! 🤩

This is a nice workplace rivals to lovers story, and while it doesn’t feel like the rivalry lasted that long, it also didn’t feel rushed through. It wasn’t like a flipped switch and they went from hating each other to being all lovey dovey. Fox learned a bit more about Archer that shed him in a new light, and while Fox decided he wouldn’t hate him anymore, it still took some time for them to get to know each other and develop a real friendship. Both Fox and Archer had some great character development. But I particularly enjoyed seeing Fox learn to look within and address his animosity towards Archer, and how Fox could change his lifestyle to have a more fulfilling life.

I loved that their banter continued, even after getting together. They didn’t lose their personalities or change who they were for the sake of their relationship. They wanted their relationship to work, so they put the work into it. But Fox and Archer also just wanted to be better people individually, and I love a good dose of character growth! I was a bit worried I wasn’t really feeling the romantic feelings and they would only ever feel like FWB, but as time goes on, you can see how their actions betray their romantic feelings.

There were so many hilarious moments! The nonsense Fox and Archer got into had me laughing out loud at times. The cameos are once again TOP TIER! My goodness, I am obsessed with Maddox and his scheming! Asher added another level of hilarity, and I swear he gets funnier with each cameo he makes! So many previous characters popped in and it really shows how vast (and awesome) this universe is. I’m truly a sucker for cameos, GIMME ALL THE CAMEOS!

The Office Bet has it all: humor, sweetness, plot, and heat. A great addition to the series! The side characters keep drawing you in as well, and it makes me excited to see where this series can go next! The future is bright for the King Sports and Matchmaking Agency 😏 I thought I wanted Wylder next, but Castleberry and Brooker certainly seem interesting 👀

Loads of fun with this one!

This one is a bit longer than Eden's usual books, and I have to say I'm glad for it! More often than not, while I enjoy her stories immensely (which is why I keep reading them), I feel like there are plotlines and scenes that could use some more room to breathe and that's what we got here. We got our sexy romance, but we also got a deeper look into why Archer is the way he is and acts the way he does.

I feel like every element was addressed and handled with care, the book felt properly complete. Even the bet storyline had a good conclusion! Do I still wish we got more? Of course I do, but what I want is extra and nothing that is (in my mind) necessary for the story Eden wanted to tell.

The dynamic between Fox and Archer was great and I loved that there was an actual good reason why Fox can't stand Archer in the beginning. It's an issue they both need to overcome. I loved that it wasn't just Fox who just needed to get over himself or whatever, no, Archer had to realise as well that there were times where he definitely took it too far and sometimes 'winning' (whatever that meant in his eyes) isn't worth it.

We also got Asher (and his brother of course) in this story. At first when he showed up, I was afraid he would be a bit of a caricature of himself, where we only see his asshole 'eat shit and die' side, but then the Buffalo thing happened and then I was actually happy we got to see him again. The issue there was also super interesting and seeing how it was handled by the agents in charge was exciting and fascinating.

Finally, of course, I can't not mention Damon. I adore him, and him being in a story, however brief his appearance, will always bring me joy.

All in all, I had a great time. I was invested in the romance, and liked seeing more of the sports agent side in this universe. Much prefer this over the first King Sports novel tbh and can't wait to see where Eden Finley decides to go next. I think it has become pretty clear that whatever she brings out, I'll read.

✎This was such a quick lighthearted and funny read with office shenanigans.🤣And Eden delivers as she always does, she’s my safe author, when I need something that will give me heartwarming and laughs at the same time.♡

✎ Archer and Fox are coworkers, but Fox seems to dislike Archer because of this idea he has of him,he basically thinks Archer is out to get him and Archer is not also helping with the way he acts and things he does.Archer does things that gets on Fox’s nerves and then he bust into his office and tears him a new one,but to Fox’s dismay, all that shouting is just foreplay to Archer. It happened to be that this two had to work together as a team and that’s how their relationship basically started.

✎ Archer and Fox were so cute and adorable, from the beginning you could feel the tension between those two and like everyone in the office who wasn’t blind as them, they saw it as sexual tension.🤣I loved the way their relationship developed from the guy I can’t stand and the uptight guy to Fox respecting and admiring Archer for what he does for his clients and the idea behind it.And I love the way Archer was able to bring Fox out of his shell and made him realize there’s more to life than just work. They literally encouraged and supported each other into becoming a better version of themselves.

✎ If you love a good office romance,I hate you but not really because I also think you are hot and I want to f**k you, with a lot of funny, then this book is for you.

I'm always down for an antagonism-to-love romance, and I always adore connecting stories, so I was super excited for the second installment in the King Sports series, which connects back with the Fake Boyfriend and Puckboys series.

Fox and Archer were introduced in The Backup Plan, and they could not be more different: straight-laced, serious, and preppy Fox, and laid-back, jokey, and tattooed Archer.
I always find it a bit difficult to get into a romance when the characters have a history prior to when the book starts. Thankfully, here the rapport between these two was established quickly and seamlessly.
Just as seamless was the way they clash, and to be honest it took a bit longer than I anticipated for them to even really spend time together.

When that did happen, I have to admit I found myself a bit confused how their antagonism even lasted for as long as it did. It did not entirely break my suspension of disbelief, but it wasn't 100% believable in my opinion - and it's not like the books aim for realism, see the really questionable bets going on in the office. The humor is, as usual, a bit over the top at times, but always in a fun way.

I did enjoy the way their dynamic developed, and the bit of forced proximity. There also were the usual shenanigans with well known and loved cameos from other characters from the author's other books.

Overall a fun romance that can somewhat fit the "enemies to lovers" trope, but in a mostly believeable way.

I received an ARC and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
