THIS IS WHY I STARTED READING ROMANTASY. FOR THIS FEELING RIGHT HERE, BABY!!!

This has court intrigue, mystical magic lore, and romance that will have you twisting and turning. I couldn’t get enough of this book, if I had a day I would’ve just sat and read this in one sitting. This book had CRACK in it.

If Bridgerton was a romantasy book, this would be it! A lot of our MMC’s are princes from the same family, and it reallllly added to the stakes.

Our FMC Rose is a gentle bad ass with a heart of gold (sometimes too golden, she’s got a reallll bad guilty conscience). She’s a warrior with a sweet heart, and I really enjoyed her for the most part.

The MMC is sort of a surprise so I don’t want to talk too much about it, but lemme just say, all these men are fumbling my girl and when the MMC is able to finally shoot his shot, I was singing kumbaya. HE’S A GOOD MAN, SAVANNAH!!!!

This is a large indie book, so there are a few pacing things that could stick out if you really want to be nitpicky. But really, this was a masterpiece, I loved this book so much.

5 stars!

the first half of this book is SO FUN. it's a little corny, but in a good way - it constantly has things going on and the book reads like tea is being spilled every five minutes. it's kind of like junk food in book form in the best kind of way.

however, mid book the pace does slow down quite a bit, which was disappointing because i was absolutely DEVOURING this at the beginning.

it also is this point in the book where it becomes clear that rose is a bit of a pick me girl. she can't maintain relationships with women in the book because her existence makes men adore the hell out of her. i'd be sympathetic to it if it seemed like rose actually cared about those lost connections, but she really doesn't. essentially, rose is so hot and sexy and perfect that every man that comes within her vicinity falls so madly in love with her that they can hardly breathe. it's exhausting.

these violent love declarations go on and on for the later half of the book. at first it's fun, because who doesn't love melodrama? however, it kept going ON and ON to the point where it's just nonsense and i needed the book to end.

overall, the tea / drama is fun, it just becomes too much at the end, and rose is kind of hard to like.

Short yes / no / maybe review:
✅ DO read this if: dating simulator games full of will-they-won’t-they’s are your favorite!
🛑 DON’T read this if: you absolutely loathe face touching in books between MCs
⚠️ MAYBE read this: if you loved the Game of Thrones show but found the writing of the books to be laborious

Detailed review:
This book is full of intriguing court and coupling politics, and the ending leaves the reader longing for more! The next part of the story has such potential and I can’t wait to see where it leads! The opening teases the readers with snippets of our main character Rose’s history and romantic backgrounds with various male characters, to the point where I truly didn’t know which suitor to root for. Via her single POV, mysteries are unraveled and secrets revealed but at a very slow burn throughout the story. When it comes to the MMC, there isn’t really one because you are introduced to several potential loves. This is not quite a Why Choose and more of a Pick Your Player or dating simulator, and it was fun to guess who would win her heart ultimately! Admittedly though, her indecisiveness does feel slightly drawn out at times. When it comes to the story, this felt almost like 3 stories rolled into one, but by the end I wouldn’t have had it differently. Beginning felt like a Hunger Games done in Game of Thrones setting, middle was more of a spy plot, and ending was more fantastical as a prophecy is involved, leaving the readers with some explanation and clarified history after the 70% mark. While there are payoffs in reveals, readers are still left with new questions to be answered in the next book.

Overall a very fun read, but be prepared for the length! Sitting at about 700 pages, the first half is just pure romance and longing and stolen kisses, and it left me wishing and impatient for spice (and I did wonder if it would ever come - it does! Just be more patient than I was!) Parts of our FMCs characteristics irked me in the beginning, however in the final 25% there are explanations that made me appreciate her as an FMC in retrospect (and the irksome parts are potential spoilers so I won’t specify here…) I really respect the authors writing, especially as a debut, as she changed my opinion of a character within a single book! It is one of the reasons I wouldn’t have this book shortened, as the plot has quite a few payoffs by the end. Overall, this was a pretty solid fantasy debut for this author - check it out on Aug 26, 2025!

3.5 stars

There were parts of this I really enjoyed but sometimes the pacing was off. It felt like a lot was going on but nothing was ever explored in depth? This might be the one time I actually wish a book was stretched out lol. I get the why but it felt like everyone was making sweeping declarations of love when some of them barely knew her? I loved Zareb, Neera, and Onyx though.

Next bit under spoilers:

Summary: 📈

After the sudden death of her father, Rosalie Versalles and her mother are left with nothing. Their only hope for survival lies in Rosalie returning to the court of Cathan to secure a marriage—ideally with the king’s son, Tristan. But when her return ignites a volatile succession crisis, Rosalie is pulled into a whirlwind of court politics, dangerous power plays, and escalating tension.

As she navigates the treacherous waters of royal court, Rosalie must face three brutal challenges, each one pushing her further from the girl she once was and closer to a destiny she never expected. Tristan’s possessiveness complicates everything, limiting her choices and clouding her path, especially as Rose begins to discover mysterious abilities that challenge everything she believed about herself.

With the fate of Vallor hanging in the balance, Rose must overcome betrayal, unearth the truth of her past, and learn to trust her instincts. The journey may break her, but the answers she finds could save not only her future… but an entire kingdom.

My thoughts! 💭

I just finished this book and… I’m literally STARING at a wall. How do I even begin to put into words what I just experienced? Infinity ⭐️💫

The Throne Seeker gave me serious ACOTAR and TOG vibes—in the best possible way. There were multiple moments where my hand FLEW to my mouth, gasping at the twists and reveals. Not once did the pacing falter; it kept me on my toes from start to finish. Maybe I could’ve predicted a few things… but when certain things hit? I was STILL shook and suddenly, everything clicked into place.

I highlighted more passages than I care to admit. THE YEARNING, the HEARTBREAK, the TENSION.. I’m in a chokehold. The angst. The love. The betrayal. The magic. Every piece of it was top-tier. My heart split more than once and I’m still not okay. I don’t know when the next book comes out, but I already know this one has earned a permanent spot on my shelf.

I feel so lucky to have read this story, and honestly? I probably won’t shut up about it anytime soon.

Favorite Quotes:

To the ones craving to get swept into a love they don’t believe exists… This one’s for you.

Tristan’s eyes turned molten. “Blood doesn’t make a brother.”

“What he did can never be forgiven by mere mortals. It’s natural to hold onto hate. But you’ll discover that the greatest revenge you can ever hope to have is to be happy. There are two roads you can take. You can either go down the road that keeps you crippled and let him destroy every happy day for the rest of your life, never to escape him… or you can free yourself from the poison and decide to be happy—genuinely happy—and give yourself the life you deserve.”

“Do me a favor?” he interjected. “Don’t overthink this… Just dance with me. Dance with me and pretend the rest of the world isn’t watching.”

“For a year, I had nothing to hold on to. At times, you felt like a distant dream instead of a memory. Time paused and didn’t start again until the moment you walked back through those doors. Life is too short, and I’ve already lost enough of it. I’ll tell you exactly what I told my mother—I won’t agree to stay away from you. Even if the world were on fire, I’d cling to you… with every ounce of strength, I’d cling to you.”

“You don’t get to feel guilty for my decisions. I own them.”

“Promise me that when you feel utterly alone, you’ll remind yourself you need no one else. That when you look down at the two hands in front of you, you’ll remember they are the only ones you need. Not mine, not Tristan’s, not your mother’s—yours. Hold yourself with them, and remind yourself that only you can give yourself the love you deserve—love far more important, pure, and true than any other human can give you. Remember that.”

But sometimes… that kind of love was more than passion. It was dangerous.

She’d never forget the look he gave her on that rocky forest floor. His dazzling gold eyes blazed with life, as though she held a match that had just ignited into pure flame—a flame that blazed fiercer the longer she stared.

You’ll never love anyone the same way twice. But there is a greater love out there for you, Rose. You may not feel that way now, but there will be a love so strong and freeing, you won’t even imagine letting it go. I feel it in my bones.”

“Usually, someone who says they don’t deserve something is exactly the one who deserves it.”

“I’m not jealous. I’m territorial. If I were jealous, it would mean I want something I don’t have… and I have you, Roe. I know it. I can feel it. Every time our eyes meet, I see the same fireworks in your eyes that are in mine. I feel your body relax into a state that happens only when I’m around. I see the smile that is reserved for me, and only me, and I know there is no one else you’d give that to.”

OK, I could go on and on 😅 I’m going to stop. READ THE BOOK and let’s talk about it!

A swoonworthy and addictive fantasy read by Jamie June. The Throne Seeker has everything you're looking for in a romantasy. Trials, romance, politics, action, ballroom dancing, mystical creatures, and a badass FMC.

Rosalie Versalles and her Mother return to Cathan's castle to secure a husband after her father's sudden death. This already sparked my interest in discovering what happened. The two families have a long history, which will be revealed piece by piece throughout the book. While there are quite a few characters, it's clear who's who and what their role is. While the worldbuilding is heavily packed, June manages to clarify the unique system and its politics. This creates an original, immersive world you'd wish to be a part of.

The story centres around Rosalie, a strong young lady with a heart made of gold. I loved her personality because even though she may seem like a 'not like the other girls' girl, her values are genuine. She faces A LOT: suitors, societal pressure, fears, enemies, plots, and trials. Maybe the most challenging one is figuring out where her heart belongs.

Tristan, Roman, and Xavier are brothers and the princes of Cathan. They used to be close to Rosalie until the political turmoil drew them apart, and upon Rosalie's return, much has
happened. The story doesn't reveal it straightaway, but as it progresses and we learn more about each brother, we also get more and more information about what drew them apart.

Tristan and Rosalie have a secret relationship. With Tristan being the heir and Rosalie having lost her fortune and status, they must keep their love a secret. This creates some tension and leads to Rosalie having to be open to other suitors/love interests.
The carefree Roman is now the army's general. Experiencing death and destruction changes a young boy into a guarded man. That is until Rosalie returns, and all his previous feelings resurface. He tries hard to keep his distance, but some feelings can't stay repressed. A friends-to-rivals-to-lovers indeed.
At last, there is Xavier. He was meant to be the heir until one day, he snapped. Throughout the whole book, he maintains a mystery. Despite knowing more after finishing the book, there's still a story waiting to be told.

The characters are complex and in-depth. Same for the world-building, the plots, and the relationships. There is much action, making this 600+ page book fast-paced. When there's no action, there is romance. When there is no romance, there is political/societal drama. At times, it felt like there was TOO much going on. Like, give her some rest, y'all. However, it does keep you on the edge of your seat. It's not only a pick and choose in terms of romance, but it also focuses on self-discovery and family. It shows how you can love and be independent. I love it when there's a fierce woman thrust into a kingdom of shifting power dynamics. Only for her to find her inner strength.

Thank you to Jamie June and the Nerd Fam for this eARC!

This book was definitely a rollercoaster of a journey. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, another twist came along and threw a spanner in the works.

We ended up with what I can only describe as a love circle… so many love interests that it became genuinely difficult to guess who she’d end up with. But surprisingly, despite the abundance of beaus, it didn’t take away from her character at all. It’s explained why she’s such a magnet for men, and when the spice finally hits - chef’s kiss - it’s delicious.

There were a few aspects that kept this from being a five-star read for me. Mentions of certain types of makeup… like highlighter and bronzer… felt a bit out of place in a timeline that otherwise had a more archaic feel. And while the book wasn’t a quick read, the short chapters sometimes made the pacing feel a little rushed. The writing style is also a bit more casual than I usually go for.

That said, I really enjoyed this book, and I definitely want to know what happens next. The cliffhanger didn’t leave me frustrated… it left me intrigued and eager for more, without pulling my hair out.

When Rose and her mother return to Chathan and the palace that feels like home, she can only hope that things fall back into place after her absence. Yet not everyone is as willing to let the last years silence stay behind. With her return to the palace forcing a new round of Succession period, suitors old and new flood the scene, political games and trying to find her place in Court. Rose is faced with a future she didn’t bargain for; unexplainable abilities, fighting for her place in court and maybe someone to give her heart to.

Let’s start by saying the world building is heavy, but necessary and it doesn’t feel overwhelming and over the top, it fits a perfect balance with an amazing plot line fuelled with twists and turns you won’t see coming, a sprinkle of spice and amazing character development of our FMC Rose. The spice isn’t thick, it’s light , but my word is it hot and filthy, sure to make you blush if like me you’re a plot girly with little spice mixed in!

From an entire new world, suitors old and new, magical creatures that are so well described you can envision them exactly, to all the romantasy goodness of secrets and betrayal. Jamie June not only excelled at her debut novel, she knocked it out of the park, because for me? A Romantasy isn’t complete until I have a “what is going on?” Moment followed by that final “oh that’s what going on!”. I think that’s the biggest compliment when you write so incredibly well, the reader truly doesn’t know what’s going to happen next, who will win her heart, who is friend and who is foe. With an action packed, fast paced ending leaving us hanging on the edge of the cliff. I cannot wait to read the next book in the Vallorian Series!

Tropes:
👀 Self- Discovery
👀 Trials
👀 Second Chance
👀 Angst & Tension
👀 Unique Magic System
👀 Strong FMC

Please be sure to check any trigger warnings that align with this book as it does feature some heavy themes that some might find hard to read.

Ok, so I had a lot to digest as there was a ton going on throughout this entire story, many elements which I was not always sure would make sense or was certain would become plot holes by the end. HOWEVER, I was pleasantly surprised to see how it all came together at the end. This had so many twists and turns, a lot of political maneuvering, love interest(s) that kept me guessing nonstop on where the romance would go, and some interesting side characters and magical creatures.

Rosalie went through it.... I did like her journey and her strength. Sometimes the dialogue was a bit YA for me and occasionally repetitive, but overall, I thought she was pretty consistent in her convictions. When it came to her romance(s), ngl I was a bit jealous cause the girl had CHOICES. No spoilers, but was content with what she decided by the end, but many moments had me STRESSING that she was going to make a choice that would piss me off ;) But the love interests, and one in particular, had some delicious yearning moments.

Overall, what a wild and fun ride and enjoyed so many elements in this story. Will definitely be bingeing the next book when it comes out as I'm invested now!

The Nerd Fam provided me with an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book is such a different spin on so many aspects of Romantasy. It includes a lot of beloved traits— action, yearning, wit, banter and an inner will being honed and strengthened by our FMC throughout the course of the book.

Very cool elements are introduced midway that keep you intrigued with high intensity stakes — the “succession games” that are included make for heavy competition and distrust among characters. High action in the second half after necessary character/world building in the first half. Lots of twists!

Some tropes you might like:

Unique love saga (multiple love interests but not why choose, more of a “finding the right person” )

Political intrigue/trials

Touch her and 💀

Hidden powers

For a debut, it was long (~800) pages, so it was difficult to see the mood/content shift many times in one book (chaos at times which could have been spread among several books, imo).

This book pulled me in really fast. It has a Bridgerton type feel where there is a courting season and balls and dancing. 3 brothers and an obvious past with our fmc, but a hint of mystery as to what that means.
Towards the middle to me it felt like this book was the prequel and the 1st book all in one. The first feels like a separate story that sets up the second half. It does all go together and is totally intertwined it just is a lot of plot. There is twists and turns, emotional moments once you start to connect to the characters. Plus an ending I really wasn't expecting with mystery I can't wait to uncover in the next book!

If you love:
-Brothers
-a challenge
-animal mind speak
-a courting season with balls and dancing and courting
-mysterious "bad guy"
-an fmc coming into herself

Other things you might want to know going in.
-spice
-some violence
-some heavy themes

Spice 🌶️🌶️

This book started strong for me and had me intrigued from the very beginning. The FMC is reunited with the king’s family rekindling old relationships. She is thrust into a succession trial which sets up a lot of the politics for the book as creates a fast paced environment for readers. The book got a bit chaotic for me about halfway through. There are multiple love interests (not why choose but more finding the perfect match). I enjoyed the magic system and mythical creatures. The FMC has a lot of character depth and growth throughout the book. She is a strong female at baseline but has additional self discovery throughout the book.

I think my biggest constructive feedback for this book was the length. There were quite a few lulls for me during the middle and then when things picked up again towards the end it felt very chaotic.

Overall, it is a pretty solid first debut fantasy romance novel for this author.

Thank you Jamie June and Nerd Fam for this gifted book!

This debut fantasy romance by Jamie June absolutely hooked me—I was intrigued from the first page and genuinely did not want to put it down. Rosalie "Rose" Versalles is a compelling FMC: she's smart, strong, determined, and trying to navigate what it means to be a leader in Vallor. When Rose is nominated by the king to enter the succession trials, she reluctantly accepts, but soon realizes that being in a place of power is a place she'd like to be. In hopes of keeping this review spoiler free, this all happens in the first 300ish pages, but just you wait because it gets WILD.

The plot twists are crazy and completely original. I always find myself comparing new fantasy romances to the top 10, but I can truly say that this is on it's own level. I might compare it to TOG on Discord, but when I say that I mean that this series could very well be it's own fantasy romance empire.

Yes, there is romance. Yes, it is a lot. And, yes, it's SLOOOOOW burn and HOT HOT HOT. That is, once Rose finally finds her true match. Without giving away too much Rose is intertwined with several men (not a why choose), but as she goes through the succession trials she finds out what truly matters and eventually WHO truly matters (including herself...you go, girl!)

That said, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this story might’ve been even stronger as two books—or a even three. There’s A LOT happening here: some plot lines felt rushed or underdeveloped, while others got more attention than they needed. I found myself wanting more time to explore the political tension, the challenges, and especially Rose’s growing magic and inner transformation.

Still, props to Jamie June. I think she has crafted a damn-good completely original fantasy romance with serious potential, and I’m excited to see what's in store for book 2.

The Throne Seeker was a crazy journey of chaotic romance, courtly scheming and complicated emotions.

this is definitely a book for those who love romantasy. although there is still a lot of trials, magic and political world building, it is outranked by the romance. it’s messy, tense and heartbreaking, and full of spice after a real slow burn. the romance (and overall plot) will keep u on ur toes.

there was some small issues in terms of pacing, with there being a severe lull in the middle with other moments that needed space feeling rushed. i also think this may have worked slightly better as two books, giving more time to explore the politics and charcter backgrounds in greater depth, as well as being able to spend more time in the trials and with the exploration of magic.

thank u to the nerd fam for the arc :)

Thank you to NerdFam for sending me an ARC to The Throne Seeker☺️

To be quite honest, this book was definitely not what I expected and I’m happy it turned out that way

The Throne Seeker follows Rose, who goes back to her home and kingdom where she used to spend every summer with the three princes who live there. She’s there to find a husband, and has the attention of several men, including Prince Tristan

What I liked about this book is that everything is not what it appears to be, and the person Rose does end up with is someone unexpected. It was definitely much better that way cause I didn’t really care for the other men

Alsoooo the plot twists in this book were intriguing 🤔 it def gets darker towards the end, and even tho there were times I didn’t like Rose, I feel like it makes sense why she is the way she is in the first and middle parts of the book

World building = immaculate, easy to follow

I do wish we saw Rose develop more female friendships, especially because a lot of her relationships in general are male oriented

Ok now I just need to rant to someone about how much I FREAKING hate Tristan 🙂

SO. FREAKING. GOOD!!!!!

I was sucked into this immersive world from page one!

-trials
-second chance
-secret powers
-unique magic system
-badass FMC

Rosalie grew up with an abusive father that left her and her mother destitute when he died. Her mother is determined to marry her off to a wealthy man that could support them. They return to the kingdom they have been visiting for years to have her coming out party.

Chaos ensues which results in Rosalie being thrown into the succession trials.

This is a hefty book! The pacing was well done. At no part did I feel it slowed or got boring. So many twists and turns and holy crap! The tension was so thick!

There are multiple love interests but it’s not a why choose.

I couldn’t wait to get in bed each night to read it and I stayed up way too late as I couldn’t put it down!

Book two can’t get here fast enough! Well done Jamie June!

The Throne Seeker isn't just another fantasy novel, it is a portal to a world brimming with intrigue and adventure. From the moment you crack open the cover you are immediately transported to a realm. The FMC Rose shines as a protagonist that you cannot help but root for. Her journey is fraught with challenges, but her resilience and growth make her a character you will remeber long after you finish the book. And lets not forget the simmering romance that adds an extra layers to this book!!

This is a romantic fantasy with a little bit of spice. There’s so much drama which I absolutely loved. And a few heartaches.

This is not a “why choose” but there were a few potential love interests. And honestly, the way they interact with her had me swooning and laughing in the same breath. A few times, I just wanted her to throat punch them.

It’s a well-written story. Intriguing from the very beginning. I really enjoyed reading it. Looking forward to the next book.

Really enjoyed Jamie Junes debut novel The Throne Seeker! The world building was really fleshed out and immersive I felt like I was actually there experiencing everything along with our FMC. We follow Rosalie Versalles (Rose) on her return to the royal palace after her father’s death leaving her and her mother being left destitute. Desperate to hide this fact her mother plans her debut into society with the hopes of marrying her off to a rich suitor but this is where everything goes off plan. Without spoiling too much expect lots of drama, heartache and delicious tension from each of the potential love interests! Oh and don’t forget the talking mystical beasts! I definitely see this being a really popular release this year and would recommend to everyone who enjoys fast paced romantasty with a dash of spice and political drama!

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ MAGICAL MARRIAGE AND ROMANCE

The romance in this book was delightfully chaotic—messy in all the best, most dramatic ways. If you think a love triangle is intense, just wait until you see the web of relationships in The Throne Seeker. Jamie June takes the classic regency-inspired political marriage trope and flips it on its head with a fresh, high-stakes twist that keeps things intriguing.

I loved the strategic power plays and how marriage was used as a tool for influence, not just love. That added a compelling depth to the drama. However, there were some pacing issues throughout the story, with moments that dragged and others that felt rushed. Still, the intrigue and unique romantic dynamics made this an enjoyable read overall. If you’re here for courtly schemes and emotional entanglements, this one delivers.

I received a copy of the eARC from TheNerdFam for my honest review of this book. The review below is my own sole opinion.

This book pulled me in fast- the politics are sharp, the betrayal is deep, and the romance is one that pulls at your chest and makes it hard to breathe, because you don't know if it will heal or destroy you.

Rose is the kind of heroine who stays with you long after you close the book. She’s dragged back to Cathan’s court, fighting to save her mother and her future—and the tension she carries? It’s in every look, every political play she makes. When suitors circle her like predators in disguise, you feel the high stakes through the pages.

This isn’t a fairy-tale romance—it’s sharp and unpredictable. That moment when Rose first locks eyes with Tristan- the king’s son she’s supposed to marry? You can practically feel her heart thundering, wondering if this is an alliance or agony. Then, when Rose discovers abilities she never knew she had… I’m not even going to lie, I had goosebumps. It’s the kind of magic that’s subtle but heavy with meaning. Now I know what you're probably thinking- what about the spice level. This book doesn't have that much spice, but with that said, you can feel the angst and the emotional heat is so intense it will melt you.

A little bit more about the vibes of the book is that it will make you second-guess everything! The court is full of whispers and shifting loyalties, which always keeps you guessing who was friend and who was foe. This one is a slow burn, but one that will keep you up at night just to get to the next chapter.

Wowza. This was a ride, in the best way possible.

I will admit, when my e-reader told me this was 780 pages, I was a little worried. Would I be able to keep up with everything, would this prove to be too long or if I would find myself forgetting events? As I dived in, I quickly realized all my worries were for naught and I was immersed in the world and the story.

The author does a fantastic job at bringing the world to life and getting us to care about the characters and their messy relationships with each other right from the start. And there is the aura of mystery surrounding each of them and the way we are slowly peeling back the layers to reveal those secrets is really well done. Yes, some of those reveals are predictable and fall into those tropes but also there’s plenty that’ll keep one guessing until it’s all out there.

I liked how the story was divided into four sections and they followed Rose’s journey well. The pacing doesn’t change but the setting does and it keeps things moving along nicely. It also allows the romances bloom in a way that makes you care for each of the characters and feel both their highs and lows when it comes to love. And there’s plenty of those highs and lows for sure.

If you are looking for a romantasy that has plenty of action, romance, big reveals and mythical creatures as well as multiple potential love interests, this might be the book for you. For myself, I’ll be over here and waiting for the next installment as the book left in a delicious cliffhanger and a hint of what’s about to unfold.

It’s going to be something that’ll rock the entire kingdom to its core.

Overall a solid read.
I enjoyed the fight and action scenes.
There was sarcasm and wit was great.
There is spicy as well. As well as deep love.

By the end of the book I was over the love square.
All these boys were confusing in the beginning. I just didn’t get it. But all became clear as the story went on.
I like Roman as an individual character I don’t like the love square he is in. He might have been one of my favorites if it wasn’t for that.
I get it;is not completely Rose’s fault but I liked her a little less for that.
All my favorite characters were minor background characters Zareb, Evelyn and Onyx.
I wish and hope Zareb is in the next book. 🙏🏽

The plot of the story was great and if it wasn’t for all the romance I would have liked it a lot more and most likely would have given this book 4 or 5 stars.
In the beginning the romance was fine towards the middle it was okay but getting annoying. By the end I was over it. It felt like the romance scenes were just added to fill in space. They don’t add anything to the story in the end.
The beginning I got it was to help us understand the situation and where everyone stood. But a lot of these scene could have been taken out.
I didn’t like Tristan in the beginning and that didn’t change in the end.

Also at times it felt like some of the characters feeling changed rather suddenly and for no real reason. All these hot then cold looks and conversations with Rose gave me whiplash. Hating her one minute then telling her it’s not her fault they don’t blame her the next. Oh then hating her again. Luckily these weren’t happening too much.

I love all the different species in this world. But then again I am an animal lover.
I am going to read book 2 I pray this love square is done.
I want to thank The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC.

This was a fun, intriguing read filled with tension. The main character Rosalie, also known as Rose, returns back to the castle after her father’s death. She starts looking for a husband to save herself and her mother when she is surprisingly thrown into a much larger competition. As we are wondering what Rose is going to do next, she is approached by multiple suitors. Each suitor has their own unique traits and leaves us with questions of their true goals and intentions.

The court and politics keeps the reader on their toes. The twists and turns keep coming as new characters and situations are introduced. The elements of magic and the magical creatures are interesting. Some of my favorite parts of the story are her interacting with the different creatures she encounters.

We are told critical information early on about the initial tensions and character dynamics with key players. However, it fells like we are missing some context that would have explained the beginning of the book better.

I am anxiously waiting for the sequel to see what Rose and the other characters do next! Thank you Jamie June and the NerdFam for the gifted eARC for review.

Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!

A love story and a political drama full of mystery, betrayal, and magic?? This is everything you could want in a romantasy!! The non-stop action, yearning, and drama made this 800 page beast of a novel a breeze to tear through.

There are multiple love interests, but this is not at all a why-choose situation. And WOOF does who Rose end up choosing make me SWOON and obviously the only correct choice in my opinion. 😂 (No spoilers here!)

I will say what might throw some readers off is that there are significant tonal shifts throughout the book. On occasion, I felt like I was reading three separate books due to the significant changes that occurred plot wise. Magic and magical creatures aren’t mentioned at all in the first few hundred pages so when it’s introduced it felt a bit jarring as it wasn’t established until that point. I did feel like however that the things that might have been loose-ends in earlier acts of the book were tied up at the end.

Our FMC Rose is kind and empathetic, but strong-willed and confident within herself and never backs down from her morals and what she wants. In the final act of the book I did get a bit irked by some of her decisions (again, can’t say too much otherwise it’ll spoil a major plot point) but I did really like her as a character.

Trigger warnings:
- Minor character deaths
- Sexually explicit scenes
- Attempted SA (in the last act of the book)

This was so enjoyable and I’m really looking forward to the next book!!

The Throne Seeker by Jamie June was absolutely amazing! It’s a long book, but it captivated me at every turn. Mystery, adventure, court politics, mystical creatures, magical lore.. this story has it all!

The best way I can describe it is Bridgerton meets The Hunger Games trials. Every character was so well written that I honestly couldn’t decide who I wanted Rose, our fierce FMC, to end up with. The princes, dukes, wannabe kings, guards, and more were all so lovable and flawed that I found myself switching “teams” constantly. By the end, I was crossing my fingers that the rest of the series will turn into a why-choose situation!

If you love court intrigue, a dash of romance, and a story that keeps you guessing, this book is an absolute must-read. I already can’t wait to dive into the next one!

Holy. Smokes. What a ride, what a ride, what a RIDE!!!

The pain, anguish, PINING, YEARNING, conflict, betrayal....ALL OF IT!!

This is page beyond page of well-written angst, longing, and love. Not just all of the love-lines (because I COULD say it's more than a love triangle and tell you the shape ...but that's no fun), but the love that Rose clearly doesn't have for herself.

She battles accepting herself, for her past and her present. She has been through a lot, she is constantly in the middle of a lot of conflict just from her trying to help.

This book is fast-paced, heart pounding gloriousness. I could not read this book fast enough.

Even with this book being over 600 pages, I would have read another 600. The writing is so enthralling (almost like I was lured in.....), that I couldn't put it down!

overall: Highly recommend
spice: open door

Ooof, where do I start?
First of all: this was not what I expected. And while I’ll try to keep things vague, I can’t promise this will be 100% spoiler-free.

At first, it felt like coming home after being away for a long time. Familiar, yet different. Like things had changed behind your back, and you had to slowly find your footing again. But I think that’s exactly how it was meant to feel.

Once I got past that initial sense of disorientation, I couldn’t put the book down. I honestly had no idea where the story was going or who would take center stage, and while I managed to predict two things, nothing could’ve prepared me for what was actually coming.

It was such an intense journey. I felt everything – I hoped, I hurt, I cried. A lot. And then I laughed and felt joy again. Once I was back in that world, it completely pulled me in. And there was this huge sense of relief every time I realized there were still so many pages ahead.

But: why does it end like that?!
Now I have no idea what’s going to happen next – and I need to know. Like, immediately.

Jamie June has crafted something truly special here – a story that pulls you in, breaks your heart, puts it back together, and leaves you breathless. What an unforgettable experience.

This book starts out strong. The politics, the story behind Rose, our FMC, and her connection with the brothers kept me intrigued. I was excited for the trials that came with the succession. The world building was minimal and not hard to follow. Overall, I enjoyed the story, Rose, her mother and Zareb.

So if you like politics, love triangles, trials, stubborn FMCs that don’t do what they’re told, and magical creatures, you’ll like Throne Seeker!

Some criticism I have are: this book could’ve been split into two or even three books. I was struggling to get through the last half of the book. After the first trial, the rest of the trials felt rushed. There are a lot of declarations of love from the brothers and from random men Rose meets. I know this stems from what she is but it started to feel redundant and annoying.

Thank you to The Nerd Fam and Jamie June for giving me a chance to advance read The Throne Seeker!

I loved this book! I could not put this one down. At just a little over 800 pages, I finished it in two days. I was glued to my kindle! What a fantastic Romantasy! It has political/court intrigue, magic, magical creatures, romance and so much more! I loved the characters so much! They both pissed me off but also made me love them! Thank you to the Nerd Fam and the author for gifting this eARC! I enjoyed every minute of it.
