I am not against books with cliché themes and storylines as long as they're well-delivered and written in an alluring way, but this book just didn't do it. The best friends turned lovers and friends with benefits tropes weren't done in a way that made me swoon or fall in love with the characters.

Getting Lucky Number Seven follows the characters Lyla Wilder and Beck Davemport, both chemistry students of the same university and class. Their friendship started when they became lab partners. Even if they're completely different when it comes to their school statuses (Beck being a popular ice hockey star and Lyla as a weird and geeky student), their friendship clicked. But when Lyla realized one day that she needs to change herself completely and transform into a typical party college girl, she asked Beck to help her. She wrote a "College Bucket List" and one of them is to get laid which is the #7 on the list. Their friendship soon turned into something else when Beck suggested that he will be the one to fulfill the #7.

I have to say that I was particularly less of a fan of Lyla. I thought she was trying real hard to fit in a group and was overdoing things. Even if she's doing it to improve herself, I hate to say that it just ruins her academics. And oh my, don't even get me started on the way she constantly bites her lips (like she's doing it all the time!) which kind of annoys me.

However, I liked Beck. I connected with his character. He's an amazing and sweet person. Not to mention that he cares deeply about her little sister.

As much as I loved the writing which was really good, the absence of chemistry and the forced connection between the characters ruined its promising appeal to me. I'll still read the sequel of this book because I found Whitney's love story interesting. :)

This one was pretty cute.

I admit, it's nothing memorable or anything like that. It's the typical friends-to-lovers kind of book (and I admit, I'm not a huge fan of those).
Still, it was a sweet, fast read. Nothing too complicated, it was a kind of fast-food like book: satisfying for the moment but in two days, you won't be able to tell one hamburger from the other.

I couldn’t even talk to my best friend about the guy I was having sex with. Because, silly me, I’d gone and made them the same person.

Ya know, once again I’m plagued by the reviews stating this is the same old same old, there’s nothing new, it’s cliché, etc…and yet again I find this to be wrong. Why do I find this to be wrong? Well, there are so many reasons I can’t even begin to explain them.

"I’m sure you were a little disappointed when you found out I was your assigned chem partner.”
“Well, yeah,” I said, “but that was because with how damn cute you were, I was sure you’d be stupid, and that meant I was going to end up doing all the work.”
She rolled her eyes, and I smiled, unable to keep from adding, “Then I caught your scent, and your blood smelled so good, I was afraid I’d kill you and eat you. That’s why I was all broody and denting the table the first day.”
Lyla laughed and shoved my arm. “You’re stupid.”
“I am. I let you talk me into that Twilight marathon last Sunday. Clearly a mistake.”

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE QUOTE lmao. Killed me when I read it.^^^ Also, I had way too much fun looking through twilight GIFs lol

I was having a bad month. I was borderline depressed. I wasn’t sleeping well and had barely any sleep. I wanted to escape reality. It. Made. Me. SMILE. And it was my rainbow on a cloudy, rainy day. I don’t care about clichés, so long as they’re done RIGHT-and these totally were. And, frankly, done better than any of the other books before it that made it ‘cliché’ to impersonate.

Beck was standing off to the side, two red plastic cups in hand. “Dead cats? You said you had a hard time talking to guys, but shit, Debbie Downer, I had no idea.”

One of my recurring thoughts throughout this book was ‘I want this relationship’. It was just too cute and there was no screwing around with other girls/guys like in other books I won’t mention *Cough* How to Date a Douchebag *Cough*. Yeah. Whoops. This was a sexy read without the smut and it never became all about sex-they were best friends first and built a solid relationship before any commitment and I really think the characters had the cutest connection because of it.

She clamped her lips as she took me in, and then she laughed. She quickly covered her mouth with her hands. “I’m sorry, now that I know you’re okay, it’s…” She laughed again, her shoulders shaking. “I’m just glad I’m not the only one to make a fool of myself when I’m drunk.”
“Fool of myself?” I pushed up to my knees and wiped gravel from my torn up palms. “What are you talking about? I’m suave as shit.”
This got another round of giggles, and she laughed so hard that she braced herself against me to keep from tipping over. That made me laugh, and then we were two idiots laughing in the middle of a parking lot, our clouded breaths filling the air around us.

Was it cheesy? Yes. But it was so cute without crossing the overly cheesy line-I hate this CHEESY line. I don’t cross it for much and this book didn’t make me. It was JUST enough-not OTT. And, more than anything, this book felt relevant unlike when a lot of authors try to recreate their youth or pretend like they know what every college student is like these days. Maybe I’m the one that’s out of touch but I felt like this book hit its mark. There were no repetitive phrases (LOATHEEEEE) like these type of stories tend to have and the dialogue melted me to my core. These two characters were beyond adorable and I couldn’t get enough of them.

I wanted to let everything spill out—how much I missed her. How I should’ve told her she was perfect and sexy and the smartest person I knew. That I was drowning without her, and for the first time in my life, I got why they called it a broken heart, because all mine did was sit in my chest and ache with each beat.

And Beck…oh man I just loved him. Yeah yeah he fell for her because of a certain something on her list (teehee) and yes they obviously had feelings for each other waaaay before they actually did anything about it, but, for whatever reason, I dug it. It just had the perfect amount of peanut butter and JELLY-ness and a touch of angst (and again, not TOO much) that really was just the cherry on top of a fun little book.

“When I look at you, you know what I see?”
I met her gaze, finding it suddenly hard to breathe.
“I see the guy who saw me when no one else did,” she said. “That’s what matters to me. That’s who you are."

So…I’m sure many of you will dismiss this book without a second thought-but, just think, if you’re having a rough day, a dark day, a sad day…maybe a smile on your face is all you need. And if you want a smile…you want Beck. Very cute. Very sweet. Very adorable. I hope some of you will try it-I know I can’t wait to get my signed copy from Apollycon from my lovely Jen Jen!!! Eeps 😊

That was a real pleasant read. Unfortunately for this book, it reminds me too much of The Deal who was a perfect read for me last month. Maybe I should space my friends to lovers books a little.

description

What's more to say than the blurb didn't. Lyla Wilder is a nerd, she is a college girl who spends her time working for school and having no fun. She hides herself behind clothes too big for her and she talks about her cat all the damn time!
In one word, she is

description

One day, she decides it's time to act and it's time to live the college life fully! She creates a bucket list and the sooner she will achieve this list, the better it will be!

description

Beck Davenport is a handsome hockey player and also Lyla's best friend. Ever since they were partner in Lab class, he spent every Sunday with her watching movies. Despite his man-whore ways with other girls, he doesn't see his best friend that way. He likes her friendship and he feels like he can be himself around her event if he doesn't share much personal info about him.

So when she ask some help with her list and when she showed up totally changed , his own nightmare begins ... because how is he supposed to stay away from this hot girl she became? How is he supposed to help her achieve her goals and not be possessive?

I started to really enjoy Getting lucky number seven after 20% of the book when they were more scenes betwen our MC. At first I didn't really get why they get along so well but the author leads us slowly to discover Lyla and Beck. Being told in dual pov was a real bonus for this book because you get to understand what Lyla really wants and how Beck is thinking.

At times, it was really funny because both of them thinks the same but doesn't tell the other. Things would have been much easier if they were completely honest from the start but at the same time, what was the point from this book?

The most interesting character was probably Beck is more complex that you could think at first. He is more than a hockey player. He has a legacy that weighs on him and he doesn't know how to handle his future life.

Like I said, he is reserved and doesn't like to talk about himself. However there's so much to tell and when Lyla invading his space more and more, he has no choice but to let him go a little.

"Somewhere between starting this crazy bucket list and here, he'd begun to let me in, little by little, I was gradually getting to know the real Beck, and he was even more awesome than the guy I'd known the past several months

The whole point of this book is the bucket list and as the story goes, the attraction between Lyla and Beck can't be ignored.

description

When Beck discovers point 7 in this list, it's not long before he propose himself to help. Lyla trust him, they are attracted to each other so why not cross a limit? And if things are clear, why not try?

description

Overall I really liked it. If I haven't read The Deal, I would have put a strong 4 stars for this book. Lyla, despite her insecurities is a smart girl. She whines a little too much sometimes. She definitely talks too much of her cat but she made me laugh and her love for Beck is sweet.

Overall Opinion: This was cute for what it was. And hey! It's free on Amazon right now, so there is that too 😜 I was in the mood for a college athlete story, and this was just that. I also appreciated the fact that the athlete was a closet nerd and worked well with the nerdy h. My biggest complaint has to be the lack of an ending for these two. I need my closure! This fits perfectly into what I call a "Happy For Now" ending, because there are no real answers about their future. I also didn't really feel their connection in the bedroom. There was definite implications that they had amazing chemistry, but it fell flat for me personally. BUT overall, a cute and easy read with pretty low drama.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Lyla and Beck's story. The story starts and they were chemistry partners that turned into a close friendship. Lyla overhears some guy talking bad about her appearance and that she's is boring and decides to make some changes in her life. She gets Beck's help in completing a college bucket list. As things are crossed off, both of them start to realize that there might be more to their relationship than just friends. Eventually they cross the line and take things physical and the end up falling in love. There is some family drama, some sexy times, and some funny moments...and they get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Lyla and Beck's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the abrupt ending. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well otherwise.

Instalove: No, they've known each other for a while.

H rating: 3.5 stars. Beck. I liked him for the most part, but I wanted him to come to terms about his own feelings sooner.

h rating: 4 stars. Lyla. I liked her. I appreciated her quirky ways, and how she cared for the H.

Sadness level: Low/moderate. I did tear up, but I never needed any tissues.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Decent. They have some alright tension and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story. I did feel like the scenes were rushed and for how it was implied that they were so hot for each other and their chemistry was great, I didn't feel it.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: No

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ended abruptly and with what I would call a HFN ending. I was really disappointed that we didn't get a glimpse into their future. I like the NA genre, and while I understand that they are young and aren't quite ready for a HEA...I still want it! I don't like the feeling like I'm left hanging at the end. Why not a jump ahead epilogue with them together down the line?! It's definitely one of my personal pet peeves.

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

I really liked this, it was a combo of sweet and serious that never became over-dramatic or overly angsty. It did have some emotional angst but with the subject being friends to lovers, it's expected. I thought Beck was a great guy. He was so supportive and accepting of Lyla when almost everyone wasn't.
I loved how he saw beyond her long skirts and concealing scarves. His reaction to her makeover was almost comical, I loved it!

Lyla was also a quirky, yet cute heroine. She had hang-ups and issues with self confidence anyone young woman could relate too. But, despite that, she never let it get the best of her. She was so caring and reassuring with Beck, always being there when he needed it.

Poor Beck was going through some tough times and I felt bad for him, his past was casting shadows on his future and although things got tense he redeemed himself beautifully.
The only thing that was missing was an epilogue. No, really. This story desperately needed an epilogue! What happened with his decision after college? I wanted to see what he decided and maybe get a glimpse of him and Lyla in the future. Anyways, this was cute and had some emotional moments that had me biting my nails, I really liked it.

4.5 stars! I really enjoyed this story! Lyla and Beck have been best friends ever since they met in a chemistry class. Beck is a popular hockey player who doesn't really do relationships and Lyla is a nerd who dresses in layers and covers herself up. After a night out with a sort of blind date who she overhears call her fugly, Lyla decides to make some changes in her appearance and get more out of her college experience by making a bucket list.

My favorite things about this book:

1. The friends to more storyline but we actually get to see what they are like as friends before there's anything more. I really enjoyed Lyla and Beck's friendship and easy chemistry.

2. Lyla. I love her nerdy chemistry jokes and cat memes.

3. Beck. Sweet, hot, hockey playing manwhore. Except, I didn't really feel like he was much of a manwhore at all.

4. Lyla's bucket list.

I really enjoyed this story and recommend it to anyone who loves a friends to lovers storyline!!

She's a nerd and has a hot hockey man whore best friend. SOLD!!! So if you love those best friends to lover romance, then I think you might enjoy this sweet and fun book of a young woman crossing off her bucket list of reinventing herself. Say goodbye to the shy nerdy girl and say hello to the sexy bombshell who is willing to let hair down and have some fun in college with the help of her best friend. So when Lyla reinvents herself, will Beck see his friend in a whole new light? And when sparks begins to fly between Lyla and Beck, will he distances himself from her when new family problems begins to arise? So can the good girl win the heart of the man who knew from the beginning that she didn't need to reinvent herself since she was beautiful from the start?

Getting Lucky Number Seven was a fun and sweet read. It was pretty straightforward and had humor and a bit of family drama intertwined into the story line. And like I said, if you love friends to lovers stories then you might want to check out this book.

NA is way out of my age, but sometimes I yearn for my 20ties…

The book is very well written, not many immature moments, likable MCs.

I didn’t like that there was no immediate spark between them as they met. He did continue to sleep with OWs and she had a bf. But after they realized their attraction there was no one else.

Actually, the main trope is not right – she wanted to change her looks, so the boys would see her. Wrong!
But they understand it much later, who knows in his/her 20es that the looks and sex are not THE main factor?

Nevertheless, not bad for NA!

A cute friends to lovers romance. Our heroine has decided to climb out of her protective shell and discover her sexuality. So she goes to her best friend who happens to be a rich, handsome jock. As someone who was often friend-zoned by the cute guys, I can relate.
After she does the whole make over montage our hero begins to see her hotness and romance ensues.

'Twas a cute book, albeit clichéd. The typical friends to friends with benefits to couple.

Good girl Lyla decides that she needs to spice up her college life, so she comes up with a list of things she needs to do: a college bucket list.

This list includes things like getting drunk, making out with a stranger, get a tattoo, and ,of course, the inevitable mind-blowing sex.
And to her convenience, Lyla's best friend is a man-whore jock (Beck). Who better to help her accomplish this?

It was a fun and fast read. Nothing really unpredictable happens except that .

Beck has a sweet personality, and I loved the way he treated Lyla! Beck's sister is pretty awesome. I adored her character. Although, I wish we got to know a few more characters better besides Lyla and Beck.

Also I just wanted to mention that the main female character's name is Lyla Wilder. I don't know about you guys, but from what I've seen, the name "Wilder" or some variation thereof shows up a lot in new adult books. Is it supposed to represent the sex life of the character?
Did anyone else notice this? I've seen it at least three times and it seemed weird :P

Anyways, give this one a shot :D

I think this is the third time I read this book, so maybe now is the right time to write a review about it.
It's obvious I loved this book.
it's so much fun seeing how a nerd take the world and shows that she can be a genius but at the same time sexy and breath taking.
I loved the "the college bucket list" thing , it made everything so interesting .
And if you add a sexy hockey player to the mix it's everything you would ever hope for.
It's a really enjoyable reading when you feel stuck and don't know what to read next.
I GAVE IT 4 STARS.

4 Perfect Chemistry Stars!

I really enjoyed this one! A sweet story about a cute nerd girl ready to do things she's never done before and her sexy hockey player best guy friend that's going to help her open and enjoy life.. one bucket list item at a time...

Lyla is kind of a nerd girl.. and she has been hiding behind layers of clothes and aloofness for quite a while now. Ever since her and her ex broke up life has been pretty boring. She does have friends and goes out.. but she's not having any fun. All that is about to change though....

Beck.. Beck is sexy semi- man ho. He can pretty much get any girl on campus he wants and the girls will do anything for him.. but there is only one girl that HE would do anything for, and that is Lyla. He and Lyla met a lab partners one semester and hit it off.. as FRIENDS. Although complete opposites, they totally enjoy each other's company. No lines have ever been crossed.

After a night out with her girlfriends and some guys.... Lyla gets her feelings hurt. She decides she is sick and tired of being frump girl. She's ready to try new things and start living a little! Who better to help her out than her sexy bestie Beck.

Beck starts helping Lyla check off all kinds of fun things off her bucket list.. like getting drunk, doing keg stands, getting new look.. And as Lyla starts blossoming into the bombshell she was meant to be, Beck is having a harder time keeping things on a "friend" level..especially when he see's she's added some hot sweaty sexy times to her list and he wants to be the one to make sure she gets her big O..

Now Lyla is no virgin.. but what little love life she has had is quite boring.. and there is nothing boring about Beck.. can they have a friends with benefits relationship?

Of course this is where things get complicated.. I LOVE a friends to lovers story and this one didn't disappoint at all. I liked both Beck and Lyla a bunch! This was a super sweet, fun, and sexy story and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from this author.

After being called fugly and boring during a group date, Lyla Wilder has had enough. College is one of the best times of her life and she is done wasting it being the nice girl with the perfect grades and the boring personality. To help with her transformation, she creates a list of things she needs to accomplish because the semester ends.
1. New edgier look
2. Do a keg stand (Remember to not wear a skirt that night)
3. Make out with a beautiful stranger (Exact level of making out TBD as the kissing happens)
4. Sing karaoke
5. Dance on a bar (Learn to sexy dance, so I don't make a fool of myself when the bar dancing happens)
6. Get a tattoo
7. Have mind-blowing sex

And who else better to help her accomplish everything in her list than her hot hockey player friend, Beck.

I was in love with this book! I'm a sucker for new adult sports romance novels especially ones focused on hockey and football and I'm so glad I discovered this! The writing was great. It didn't feel like the author was using the stereotypical jocks and braniacs. It was a breath of fresh air with all the bad new adult books I've read so far.

The chemistry between Beck and Lyla was sizzling. They brought the best out of each other and I can honestly say that they were meant for each other.

I enjoyed this so much that I finished it in a day. Once I started reading, I could not put it down and before I knew it, I was already at the end. This also helped me get out of my funk and smile and for that I would give it a huge thumbs up!
I definitely recommend this to new adult romance fans!

Random thought: All of the sports romance novels I've read about hockey always has an amazing college team that will be competing in the frozen four. I hope all these authors will get together and write a crossover novel :p

This book is cute and funny. The main characters, Lyla and Beck are really likable and well-written. The only problem I had with the book? I'm not quite sure that I believe they would have become best friends just because they were lab partners in Chemistry. He's a total jock hockey player, and she is a conservative nerd. They would have done their homework and moved on. It wasn't that believable. But, if you accept the friendship premise of the book, it is a very fun story. Personally, I thought there should have been a better reason for them being good friends at the start of the book - like they knew each other when they were younger, or had a previous link that kept them together somehow.

So, Lyla is a nerdy girl -quirky, awkward, and dresses super conservatively. She and Beck are BFF's and text each other during the week while having a standing movie night every Sunday. It is an easy friendship. She is quirky, and he likes that about her.

I also sent him way too many picture of my cat doing funny things, but what can I say? Einstein's freaking adorable.

Let me just say this to everyone who thinks anyone in the world wants to see photos of your pets: No, no we don't.

i am not amused photo: amused amused.jpg
See? Cat's are the devil's spawn.

So, Lyla gets called "fugly" by a total douche and goes running to Beck for comfort and advice. She asks his honest opinion on what he thought about her when he first met her and they were set-up as chemistry partners. He is a sweetheart and tries to reassure her, along with this statement:

"Then I caught your scent, and your blood smelled so good, I was afraid I'd kill you and eat you. That's why I was all broody and denting the table that first day>"

Haha! Just one of the many reasons to love Beck!

So, Lyla decides that she needs to let loose more and experience college life. So, of course, she writes a list of the things she should do to let loose and have more fun.

Beck: I was going to point out that list-making wasn't the best way to let loose, but I decided to let it go.

to do list funny photo: To Do List ToDoList.jpg
Here's my to do list. It's the same every day. I usually skip the first ones and just eat cake. It works for me.

Lyla's list includes doing a keg stand, kissing a cute stranger, singing Karaoke, dancing on a table, and getting a tattoo. She also changes her hair and updates her wardrobe.

And, of course, as in every book and movie - when she updates her hair and wardrobe, she is beautiful. For once, I would love to see one of those big make over scenes and have the girl turn out to be just as plain as she was in the first place. Then, everyone could be all, "No wonder she hid her body under all those clothes, she really is dumpy. And, her face - so much better hiding under those glasses!" Please, please let this happen!

So, now Beck is attracted to her. Hmmm, no comment on why he wasn't attracted to her in the first place because I do like him. Again, the premise was flawed. He's a nice enough guy to have seen under her outer appearance, so why didn't he do so before?

Anyway, they set out to work on her list and there is hilarity everywhere. They also start developing feelings for each other. No surprise there.

The best thing about the book is Lyla's quirkiness. She is adorably nerdy and funny. It is a cute and fun read. Kind of like a light rom-com.

My Thoughts
4.5/5

Getting Lucky Number Seven is my favorite kind of new adult contemporary romance. I love the flirty nature of the friends to something more trope, I love the URST, I love nerdy humor, and I love a good college bucket list. So I knew this book was meant to be for me. And I loved it just as much as I was expecting to. It was such a fun read. I was so sure that I would love this book that I signed up for two blogs tours for it by accident. Opps. Sometimes I get a little overly excited for a book. But I was happy that I did for Getting Lucky Number Seven. I loved cute and adorable awkward science nerd Lyla. And I beyond loved her friendship with hot and smart hockey/science guy Beck. It was a winning formula for me.

Lyla is an awesome girl, but she feels a little invisible to guys. When her roommate set her up on a group date at the start of the book and she overheard those mean comments, something inside of me broke a little for her. She didn't deserve that at all. So I don't blame her for wanting to try some new things. So she created her college bucket list. I don't feel like she was changing herself for a guy because she was still the same girl. She changed her clothes, but as she pointed out, she wasn't even sure that what she was wearing before was her style. She just wore it to hide. Lyla is a strong girl, and I don't think she would do anything that she didn't want to do for herself. I loved her journey of self discovery. And of course, I loved her interactions with Beck.

Beck is an awesome friend. Lyla was his lab partner, and since then they have developed a completely platonic sunday movie night tradition. Beck is a solidly great guy. He drops everything for Lyla- always. And watching him squirm while she checked off items on her bucket list had me giggling. They are just too cute. Don't worry, there are roadblocks, and character discoveries and development that make Getting Lucky Number Seven more than just a fluff read. Beck's family situation is very tough, in a non-conventional way. I think Getting Lucky Number Seven has something for everyone.

If you like romance or romantic comedy books at all, Getting Lucky Number Seven is a must read for you.

Getting Lucky Number Seven is a fun and carefree New Adult romance. It has a couple of my favorite tropes - best friends to more, nerdy girl wins the boy who said he'd never commit - and it's blissfully low on drama. I really enjoyed being inside both Beck and Lyla's heads; they are engaging and relatable characters, not without insecurities or vulnerabilities but they're not weighed down by emotional baggage either. Lyla wants to step out of her comfort zone and complete a college bucket list, which includes getting a makeover and being more easy going around guys. She enlists her best friend's help, knowing how much Beck "gets" her and will understand her need to do this. They have such an awesome and believable friendship, so that when it starts turning into something more the chemistry is unbelievably good. This is a best friends romance done right; even if Beck was being hardheaded about "labels" you could see how easily they were falling into love. He finally opened up to someone about his parents' deaths, and she realized she could be sexy while still being her nerdy, slightly awkward self. While my emotions stayed relatively surface-level, and I wish there had been more steam, curling up in bed reading Getting Lucky Number Seven was a satisfying way to spend my night.

Featured on my romance novellas REC IT post.

Lyla Wilder, chemistry major and nerdy awkward girl, is best friends with Beck Davenport, hottie hockey player and closet nerd. Lyla’s tired of being seen as just the nerd, and decides to create her own college bucket list of things she wants to do, to be bold and enjoy herself. And Beck’s liked her just as she is, but as she decides to live (a little) on the wild side, he's determined to protect her. Along the way, romance happens.

The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between

- Light, fun read : The story starts off a bit awkward, with alot of setup for Lyla and Beck’s friendship, but once it smooths out and focuses on the bucket list, the ride is just fun. The idea of a hockey stud being friends with his nerdy lab partner is a fantastic play on the usual jerk jocks learns to appreciate the heroine, and instead Beck’s a closet nerd who truly connects with Lyla from the very beginning. The friendship felt genuine and the slow burn to romance natural.

- Showing love for the nerdy girls : Lyla’s delightfully awkward but aware of it and she really does come into her own by the end of the story, blending her natural style with a bit of sexy flair.

- Beck and Lyla have very good chemistry : The sex was done well and just enough to tantalize, not dominate the story.

- Not alot of hockey : I’m not even sure what position Beck plays but I know he’s one of the captains of the team. But if you’re looking for a slice of hockey life, it’s not here.

- Beck’s butthead moment : It felt more like conflict for conflict’s sake. I understood the why of it, but I didn’t think it was the most effective way to get there. But all’s well that ends well in romancelandia.

The Bottom Line
Fun and sweet with a touch of angst (but not alot), I really enjoyed it. Definitely one of the better new adult romances I’ve read this year. I’d read more from Ms. Madsen.

I know it's not fair to compare two books but "Getting lucky number seven" reminds me a lot of "The Deal" by Elle Kennedy.
'The Deal' is a all around (nearly) perfect NA novel and a hard competition for every other book in this genre.

'Getting lucky number seven' is a sweet story about a nerdy girl and her hot man slut best friend who plays hockey for the college's team. Everyone who reads NA novels knows exactly what will happen but this predictable plot is not what didn't work for me. The story was well written and both MCs were cute but I couldn't connect with them. The story touches only the surface. If I read a NA novel I want all the feels - the grief, the heartache, the tears until we get the HEA. The final was really sweet but the long way before we got to this point was kind of flat.

This is not a bad book. Not a bit. There are just books with the same plot out there which are better (such as 'The Deal')

I don't have time to write a review. I don't have time to read, for God's sake.

Anyway, this is a very good New Adult. Not an excellent NA, like The Deal. But still a very good one that makes me want to continue the series. And you know what? I'll take that, thank you very much.

A naughty list and a hot best friend to check off items with. Lyla wants the "college experience" and Beck is just the man to give it to her. This adventure is great. I'm picky with new adult and this one was fun and interesting. Let's just say she makes up for lost time in a spectacular way!

Here's the thing, I read a lot and it's a new and wonderful thing when a book does something different. Yeah, I love those falling for your best-friend books. Who doesn't but it's almost always about one of the other who's been in love forever with the man/women whore other one. Something happens and they figure out they love each other. Yes, I enjoy them along the way but they feel all the same. Not this one. This one was different. This one was BETTER.

First, these two haven't been besties for ever and ever, just a few months. Lyla is in her second semester of college and she met Beck in her chemistry class first semester. She had a nerdy boyfriend from high school and so she didn't look at him that way. They just became friends. Beck is the man-whore of the hockey team and while he noticed that Lyla's cute, he got that she wasn't available so friends worked for him. And he needed one. His home life is a mess. One he doesn't let other know about.

Then a jerk calls Lyla fugly and the list is born. She's a nerd at heart and she's driven to get good grades. Science is her subject and she loves her cat, Einstein. Her early development had her mom teaching her to cover those beauties up and she's never gotten past that. She's almost through her first year of college and all she's done is study. A college bucket list is exactly what she needs to loosen up.

Yeah, so neither of these two thought of each other as anything but a best friend. She's the nerd that really a cute girl hiding under lots of layers and he's a hockey player that's smarter than he lets on with some home issues. And they're best friends. The only true friend each other really has. So he agrees to help her with the list, even if that includes some shopping for some edgier clothes and teaching her how to flirt with a guy.

And they both resist. And it's adorable and sexy as all get out.

I was so in the zone that I just devoured this book and I didn't notice the time or the pages flying by. Just pure enjoyment.

The story is so well balanced with time to build their chemistry, time to explore their attraction, time to become closer friends and time to figure out how much they mean to each other. My stress level was low through their problems because I could feel their feeling for each other.

If you enjoy New Adult romance, you want this one. If you love the friends to lovers trope, you want this one. If you love well written romance with great characters you care about, you want this one. You just want this one.

So, I went in to this after reading The Deal and The Mistake and maybe that's why I was rather underwhelmed, those two books are in a league of their own. Maybe I would have liked it more had I read Getting Lucky first, or waited a while to read it. I loved the idea of this story and was sucked in by the blurb but sadly it didn't quite hit the mark.

I do love a good friends to lovers story when it's done well. For me this didn't quite hit the mark because if they had just communicated with each other they would both have known where they stood. Just TALK to each other already!

Given that this is a dual POV, I got to know Beck but sadly finished the book knowing very little about Lyla. I loved Beck, I really did. He was sweet, protective and his inner geek was so cute.

This is one of those books that desperately needs an epilogue, the ending is very sudden and feels almost like a HFN rather than a HEA.

~~4.5 HEARTS~~

Aww this was a great book. I really enjoyed it. Both the hero and heroine were very likable and the story just flowed easily. This is one that I would definitely 're-read'. I did want more though. It did feel like it just ended so suddenly. Overall a solid 4.5 stars.
