‘Kill me, Delilah. Fucking kill me with everything you have.’

This book was a 3.5 star read for me.

The vibes were ✨chef’s kiss✨

Luci Rayn debutes her first novel, a maffia romance. For this being her first book, I’m thoroughly impressed by the writing. I feel with other Flemish authors the writing is often simple but with Luci, it felt deeper on another level.

Yet the pacing was very quick, too quick for my liking. Therefore some scenes felt too flowy for me, like I couldn’t quite grasp them.

Overall the story was engaging and kept me hooked after every chapter. The chapters were also quite short so it made the reading process smoother.

I also enjoyed the male pov throughout the book, it’s something you don’t often get. And like someone else mentioned in a review already, I also enjoyed how the characters aren’t perfect but just human.

I bought this book at an event where the author was signing. She was super sweet and friendly, and I was so excited to read this book. It had been a long time since I’d read a romance novel—especially a mafia romance.

But I was so disappointed...

The writing style just wasn’t for me. It was really repetitive, and many times I felt that the word choices used to describe certain scenes weren’t the best.

While reading, I often felt like there was a lot of background information missing. What exactly was the issue between Chiller and Trenton? I couldn’t find a single clear reason for why Chiller was so angry with him.

This is supposed to be a mafia romance, but I didn’t feel like the mafia aspects were well-developed at all. Sure, his parents were involved in the weapons trade, but that’s where the “mafia” part seemed to end. It felt like Luci was trying to make Chiller into this terrifying guy that everyone feared—I get the intention—but it just didn’t work for me. There was nothing truly scary about him. To me, he came across more like an overgrown manchild. He’d get angry and start fighting after someone said a single sentence to him. He killed people just because they were "loose ends," which felt completely over the top. And he cursed a lot. The constant swearing really got on my nerves—it felt unnecessary and didn’t add any emphasis or emotional depth.

Also, he acted more like a self-made detective than a feared mafia boss.

As for the romance: they meet, she saves him, and BAM—he’s in love. She was supposed to be this badass woman, but honestly, she just talked to people. That’s not badass, that’s basic human decency. And when she suggested he give all the evidence about Trenton to the media, he reacted like it was this groundbreaking idea he never would have come up with himself?? You're telling me this man has been in the mafia for years and never thought of that?

I know I didn’t finish the book, so maybe some things are explained later on. But what was with all the exact time stamps? They didn’t add anything to the plot.

The part about the letters was also really predictable.

Chiller wanting to protect his daughter—I get that. She has a few scenes early on, but all she says is “Daddy!” and that’s it. There was one moment where she supposedly calms him down with this big emotional speech, and I’m sorry, but no child would ever say something like that. It just didn’t feel realistic.

All in all, this book just wasn’t for me.
Sorry, Luci. I loved meeting you, but I’m afraid your books just aren’t my thing.

I just want to thank the author first for sending me an early copy of this book to read. I enjoyed this story and thought it had a good plot and really enjoyed the mmcs character. I also loved the level of action in this and how the plot kept me engaged. I do think it was a very good attempt for a debut novel and are really grateful to have been given the opportunity to read this book!

This is actually my very first Dark romance/maffia romance i’ve read.
I have met the author at a book signing event and she was super nice and sweet.

In the beginning the story was kind of slow but around 60% I was really invested in Chiller’s story.
The plot twist was also very surprising and I really was not expecting this ending.

Super excited that book 2 is coming in 2026😍

First of all, a huge thank you to Luci Rayn for sending me the ARC copy of Chains of Rage – and for the absolutely amazing package that came with it! It truly made my day and got me even more excited to dive into the story.

And wow – what a ride! This book was intense, fast-paced, and full of suspense. The ending? I’m still recovering. I need book two – like, yesterday!

Although it was marketed as a dark romance, I didn’t really feel that romance was the main focus. It was quite short-lived, and the story focused more on the characters’ thirst for revenge – which I honestly really enjoyed.

If I had to mention one thing, it’s that the characters could have used a bit more depth. But overall, Chains of Rage was a gripping and thrilling read that I couldn’t put down.

Bring on book two!

Before I begin I want to thank the author, Luci Ryan, for giving me this ARC.

This was such a fast read, I’m not joking. The pacing is incredibly quick, and the story just keeps moving without slowing down.

One thing I really appreciated was that the characters weren’t perfect. They weren’t purely good or evil, but rather complex and morally grey, which made them feel more realistic. Although this is marketed as a dark romance, it didn’t feel overly romancy to me (in a good way! ). I especially liked that revenge was the central theme of the plot. While there was a bit of romance, it doesn’t overshadow the story, which I found refreshing.

That said, I did feel that the characters could've been more developed. it just felt flat at times. Some of the plot twists also felt like they could have been handled with a bit more subtlety. Not all of them, though, I was genuinely surprised by the ending ;).

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a story with more depth than the average dark romance novel. I'll absolutely be reading the next one!

First of all, a big thank you to the author for sending me an early copy of this book!

This was my first ever dark romance and I think it is a good book to start in the genre. It wasn’t too dark but it also wasn’t a fluffy romance.

What I really liked is that we mostly read in the MMC’s (Chiller) POV. This way a lot stayed mysterious, especially the FMC. Chiller is the perfect balance between being tough and dark, yet soft for his daughter. His character is also very well worked out. The only point of criticism I have is that I would have liked to see more of the FMC, her character stayed very superficial but I also understand that that was needed to keep the mystery alive.

If you think this will be full on romance, you’re wrong. There was actually a big plot going on and a large part of the story was maffia. In all honesty, I did like that. It made the story between the FMC and the MMC feel more like a slow burn.

You can also really feel that the book is setting up the next one(s) in the series.

I am looking forward to see how the story unfolds and what the motives are for certain actions that were taken.

The writing was very fast paced. I had to adjust a little since before this, I read a huge series where everything is written extremely detailed. However, I liked how the author did not write unnecessary scenes or descriptions.

So if you read all my yapping and are here, I would really recommend this book. Just keep in mind that it’s not only romance and there is a big story going on as well.

I was so curious about this book after hearing it was all about suspense and revenge — but not really a dark romance, since there’s not a ton of romance in it. And honestly? That’s exactly what it was. But oh my god, the tension?? Off the charts. 🔥

This book had twist after twist after twist, and by the end I was completely tangled up in the plot — in the best possible way. Everything was so cleverly done and tightly woven. And the fact that this is a debut? Absolutely wild. Lucy Ryan came in swinging. 😮‍💨

If you’re looking for something filled with dark secrets, revenge plots, and characters with layers upon layers (no cardboard cutouts here!), Chains of Rage is for you.

✅ Minimal romance, but max intensity
✅ Brilliant twists and addictive pacing
✅ A debut that reads like a seasoned pro

I’ll definitely be reading anything Lucy Ryan writes next. Bring on the chaos. 👀

This was insane and I loved every second of it. There was so much action wich made this book such a page turner. (I read it in only 3 days as a slow reader) The characters are complex and morally grey. I loved reading from the mmc pov, I really liked Chiller as a character and his relationship with his daughter. This was my first dark romance, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into and it took me by suprise in a really good way. I think what helped was the thrilling/revenge part of the book wich not only made it a fun dark romance but also a good plot driven book!
Also I met the author and what a sweet and confident women, I can’t wait to read the next book when it comes out!

I gave this one 4 stars and honestly, it really surprised me, in a good way. Since it’s a dark romance, I was kind of bracing for a lot of spice, but it was actually really balanced. The focus stayed on the story, which I really appreciated.

It was my first time reading a dark romance, so it took me a bit to adjust. But once I got into it, I couldn’t stop. I kept needing to know what would happen next.

There were multiple plot twists that kept the pace moving and made it hard to put down. It’s also a super fluent read! I flew through it way faster than I expected.

If you’re new to dark romance and a little hesitant, you could start with this one. It’s intense, but not too *dark*. The twists definitely deliver.

I saw the author was Belgian. I wanted to support a local author, so I bought the book. I was hoping for an intense dark romance story. Sadly, it's not my thing. The story is too fast-paced for me, and I miss depth in the characters. The writing is very passive and descriptive. After 70 pages, she lost me. I did not feel like finishing it.

Woah, this was a wild ride! First of all, I want to thank Luci Rayn for the ARC copy - so grateful! I fell in love with the cover, and the story did not disappoint.

Chains of Rage is a Dark Romance filled with betrayal, secrets, love, and - you guessed it - rage. I was immediately drawn into the story by the prologue, which also set the pace. The writing style is fast paced, which makes for a story that doesn't bore and keeps you interested. I did find some phrases sounding a bit unnatural here and there, and I'd prefer more clear description of characters and background, but I think Luci's style of writing is amazing as a Belgian writing in English. There's room to grow, which I think is a positive thing - and I can't wait to read her evolution in book two.

What I also loved was how realistic the characters felt. They all had their problems and oddities, and I loved the struggles Champion went through with both temper and booze. It made him feel real. This also counts for the other characters, including our so-called villain in the story. Everyone had a past, and their actions accommodated as such.

Chains of Rage is depicted as a Dark Romance, although the spice isn't too dark. In my eyes, the romance wasn't the main plot of the book right now, which was pretty refreshing. Everyone had their own agenda, and I'm curious to see how that works out in the future.

Luci, you did an amazing job! Loved it!

If you love a slow-burn mafia romance, this one should be added to your tbr! The story follows chiller who’s on the hunt for revenge after they burned down his bar..

Overall it was a fun read but as an “advanced” dark romance reader I wouldn’t quite label it as dark. It’s a perfect book if you want to start reading books with characters that have more of a criminal backgrounds and that aren’t your average golden retriever boys. The romance wasn’t the main focus of this book so keep that in mind.

It was a fun and quick read with a lot of twists and turns. I’m curious how the story will continue 🖤

The book starts strong in the opening pages and immediately pulled me into the premise. However, as I continued, I found the pacing a bit uneven at times, and certain scenes felt like they could be reordered for better narrative flow. Some scenes fell flat and there could be more depth in both plot and characters. The romance fell flat for me as well. I think the book is great for readers who enjoyed watching Sons of Anarchy. But if you’re looking for dark romance that makes your toes curl, for me this wasn’t it.

There’s a lot of promise here, great setup, an intriguing world, and a good foundation and political intrigue. I think with more development in the character arcs, emotional stakes, and scene transitions, this could become a compelling series.

Chains of Rage pulled me in with its dark tone and emotional tension. I enjoyed the raw, intense moments and found parts of the story really compelling. Some sections felt a bit rushed for me, but overall, I’m glad I gave it a read and I’m curious to see what will happen in the next book.

I read Chains of Rage at the end of July, about three weeks ago, and even though I haven’t had time to sit down and write this until now, this book has been sitting at the front of my mind every single day since I finished it. That alone is why it gets five stars from me. Usually, when I finish a book, I move on. But Chains of Rage didn’t just stick with me, it made me feel. I was angry, confused, betrayed. And not just a little. This book had me counting the last pages thinking, “How are they going to resolve this in ten pages?” Spoiler: they didn’t. Now I have to wait until next year for the sequel, and that makes me rage.

The ending broke me. I was furious at Delilah for what she did to Chiller. People keep calling Chiller the villain, the killer, the monster, but does anyone stop to acknowledge that he gave up everything for his daughter? Yes, he killed Delilah’s father. Yes, he killed people. But that first kill wasn’t even a choice; it was an order, and Delilah knew that. Yet she still chose to side with the person who ordered her father’s death. That’s not revenge, it’s the opposite. And then she takes his little girl away from him? That’s the one line you don’t cross.

I read this book while on vacation in Spain, glued to the pages on the beach. I didn’t even bother going into the water because I needed to know what happened next. And what happened was betrayal. I don’t know what Delilah was thinking, but Chiller deserved better. I hope in the next book he doesn’t forgive her easily, if at all. She can claim it was for the girl’s safety, but the danger came from her actions. And knowing Chiller, he will follow her through hell to get his daughter back.

Luci Ryan, for a debut novel, you shook me. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this story. I’m someone who forgets books quickly, I’m basically a goldfish. But Chains of Rage is burned into my mind: the love, the lies, the betrayal. I even have a sticker with my favorite quote from the book on my laptop: “Kill me, Delilah. Kill me with everything you have.” I used to love Delilah as a character. Now, not so much. Maybe in the next book we’ll get her POV and see her reasoning. But as of now, she has a long way to go to earn my forgiveness, and Chiller’s.

All I know is the moment the next book is out, I’m running to get it.

A riveting YA debut by a promising young author. The continual suspense and psychological tension inside and between characters kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the novel. Can't wait to see what else Ms Rayn (and the Champions) have got in store for us!
