Amazon bestselling author Ethan Jones returns with SHADOW AGENTS, the new electrifying thriller in the Justin Hall spy series.
Justin Hall and Carrie O'Connor are the best field operatives of the Canadian Intelligence Service, and they are hot on the trail of a Palestinian sleeper cell planning a major attack in Germany. Combat-hardened and ever-vigilant Justin and a determined and ferocious Carrie are able to narrowly foil the suicide bombing of Berlin's Central Train Station.
But one of the cell members escapes and goes underground. Justin--the only one who knows what the fugitive looks like--and Carrie are dispatched to find him, since he is believed to know a deeply disturbing secret. The relentless hunt takes them to Tel Aviv, Israel, where they begin to uncover an unsettling game of deception and betrayal that implicates powerful people. They hit the dangerous back alleys of Amman, Jordan, only to realize they have been looking at the wrong place.
Shocking clues about the fugitive thrust them deep inside the heart of terrorist-infested Iraq. With the help of Mossad, CIA and unlikely allies, yet facing slim chances of survival, they must stop the devious plot. Otherwise, the entire Middle East will explode into an all-out war.
Ethan Jones's masterpiece of suspense is the sixth thriller in the Justin Hall series and follows the bestselling tradition of David Baldacci, Vince Flynn and Brad Thor. It is a fascinating, unpredictable and adrenaline-fueled spy novel.

As expected from the 6th book in the series Ethan Jones has developed both his style and the characters in the book into well rounded story; But there is still a freshness to the story that makes you keep returning to the book. In my case I could not put this down as you are constantly wondering what is going to happen next. It would be easy for the author to keep returning to the same worn themes and it is to his credit that Ethan keeps the plot fresh and the story flowing in new and unexpected ways. As I have written about the other books in the series, the greatest compliment I can pay this series is to liken it to the “Bourne” series. Obviously it is different but I feel if you like that style of story you will love this book, if you want a really good read go get this book today. I need to mention I was given this book for free but that has no way influenced my views, I just love this author and his work. (PS I have given free books zero and one stars in the past and reserve the right to do so again!) Ethan Jones Shadow Agents
Note: I received an advance copy of the first five chapters of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Shadow Agents is the sixth entry in Ethan Jones long-running, bestselling "Justin Hall" spy thrillers. Usually I spend my reading time curled up with fantasy or sci-fi titles, but I do enjoy a good spy thriller, assuming it is handled right. There seem to be so many ways these thrillers can go wrong; characters that the author tries to hard to make you like, making them ring false, or characters that transcend special ops and end up more superhuman. Sometimes too much attention is paid to authenticity of naming weapons, gear, etc., and characterization and/or story structure suffers. Point is, there are a lot of elements to be blended properly or the whole piece will suffer.
This was my first outing with a Justin Hall novel, and I will say, Ethan Jones does a very good job keeping it engaging, exciting, and genuine within the small sample that I read.
I had some reservations going in starting with book six, but then rationalized that a good enough author will keep their protagonist accessible while still progressing the story. This is the case here. I might not know all the specifics of his history, but I could get a clear enough picture of him from the details here. Maybe a quick history paragraph or two at the beginning would work for future entries?
Please keep in mind, you do not see Hall (a very resourceful Canadian Intelligence Service agent) until Chapter 4. The first three chapters here deal with an cover assassination attempt by Mossad agents on a high value Palestinian target. In these chapters, the tension is ramped way up. How these story arcs converge, I am sure will be told in later chapters.
I have very few things I could say need improvement in these opening chapters. There are one or two descriptive terms that could have had the fat trimmed a bit to keep the reading going at a fast clip, keeping the momentum of a tense moment.
Other than that, I recommend this story. I will most likely be going back and picking up earlier volumes. Believable situations, well choreographed action, and characters you can relate to. Well done.
I've just finished the first few chapters of this book and anxiously await the rest! I haven't read other books in this series - yet. I don't think one needs to be familiar with the characters to enjoy this book. But rest assured that others will go on my to-read list.
The story begins with a group of mercenaries hunting a government official. Then, we are brought to another country with new characters and a different uprising.
I'm intrigued to learn how these stories are connected. Even in the short preview I read, I felt as though I had enough information to care about and follow the characters stories.
I like this authors style - it's clear, descriptive, and fluff-free. I didn't need to stop reading and create the image in my mind, it was a natural process that occurred while I was reading (which is really what we readers want, right?). I was superimposed in the story, like a fly hovering overhead (out of the danger zone, of course!).
Complete book update! The stories mentioned above certainly intertwine, in a somewhat complex way. Two Canadian secret agents are in the Middle East, encouraging peace talks and investigating an informant. This, of course, leads them on a chase from country to country. The book is pretty heavy with military terms, groups, and lingo, but it isn't that distracting for those of us who aren't super savvy. It took me a little while to make the connections between the stories, and make sure I had all of the organizations straight in my head (who was allies with who), but everything made sense by the end.
Well written, like-able leads, intriguing story. I'd recommend!
With each new book Ethan Jones is advancing in his writing skill. In this the sixth book of the Justin Hall series we find that again Ethan has taken things up another step.
Justin Hall and Carrie O'Connor are teamed up with the German's to stop a terrorist attack that they believe is planned to happen in one of their major cities. Why would the Canadian Intelligence Service be teamed with the Germans? Well, that's because the intelligence has come from one of the operatives that the CIS is handling. They have shared with the German's and are now in a joint mission.
But the book actually starts with a rogue Mossad Operation in Palestine that takes out the top member of a terrorist group. This doesn't seem to have anything to do with the operation in Germany, but it will eventually tie in.
The operation in Germany goes wrong, but still Justin is able to help save many lives by taking action when action is needed. Also they will have a bit of luck on their side as well. But the German's aren't happy with the outcome and they want Justin and Carrie out of their country. The two leave for Israel to attend a meeting with their boss and the Mossad.
Upon arriving in Israel the convoy they are in is ambushed and the picture points back to being planned by the group that their informant works with. So, has their informant turned against them? Or was he not able to warn them of this attack? Or is he dead?
With the help of the Israeli's Justin and Carrie will work to find out the answer to what is happening with their undercover asset.
The development is good, the action is good, the description of characters and weapons is good. Ethan again puts together a great novel that will hold your interest well.
Themes to watch for;
1. How do you keep an undercover asset safe? Especially if you have never met the person before. 2. What happens when personal agendas get in the way of operational guidelines? 3. What happens when you have a top level operative who has a personal agenda that conflicts with their government's actions? 4. How do you stop a peace plan from happening? 5. Can multiple agencies from different countries actually come together and work together well?
Oh, and did I mention that there is a peace plan being brokered by Israel and the three major factions ruling parts of Palestine? Yup, can peace really come to the Middle East?
Well, if you have enjoyed the Justin Hall series you will not be disappointed with this new book. I'm just sorry that it got lost in my stack of books to read and I didn't get to it until now.
Justin Hall and his partner Carrie O’Connor, CIS’ deadliest field operatives, are on a steak out due to intel that Berlin was a target for a bombing. They are pair up with different agents in two different locations. Justin sees a woman pushing a baby carriage but is dressed to the nines and is smoking and he gets a feeling something isn’t right. So he goes to investigate calmly and things were not right. When he reproached her she leans over the carriage and Hall shoots her in the shoulder. Then he notices the bomb as well as another man down the way looking like he is trying to get a cell phone signal. He pushes the carriage away but it his a bump and the bomb goes off. Then when he recovers from the blast he notice the man was gone. They get word that the blue van in notice down the road and the chase begins. Lots of action, twist, and turn and on the edge of your seat reading. Will they be able to catch up with the van before it finds its next target. Great read and must read if you enjoy books that keep you wanting to read.
I received a special ARC preview of Shadow Agents from the author. Despite that, all opinions in this review are honest.
Shadow Agents is the sixth book in the Justin Hall series by Ethan Jones. It's pretty interesting because we land right in the middle of an operation. It begins with two operatives sneaking through alleyways, they are Mossad and they are here to kill Yousef Nassar, the second-in-command of the IFB. Though I have not read the prior books in the Justin Hall series and I've only read several chapters of Shadow Agents so far, it seemed to be pretty easy to read. There was a lot of action, twists and turns.
So far, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I thought it was worth four stars, which might increase or decrease depending on how much I enjoy the rest of it.
From the first page you get hooked into wanting to know how things turn out. There is violence but done without graphic descriptions. The characters are believable and you connect with them. It is not a good guys always win story. I could not put it down as I wanted to know what happens.
After reading the preview, which had the first five chapters I am eagerly awaiting the books release in December.
Ethan’s novels are always full of action and quickly draw the readers into the storyline. As always the story could easily have been ripped from the headlines. As I have avidly ready all the previous novels I’ve grown to care about these characters. The starts in the West Bank and Justin and Carrie work with a German anti-terrorist police unit to search for a Palestinian sleeper cell. One of the members of the cell manages to escape and Justin is the only one that can identify him.
If this is the first time you are reading a Justin Hall novel, download the other books in the series. This will enable you to know all the back- I received a sample from the and as usual I am eagerly awaiting the release of the complete book on December 16th. stories and it will help you pass the time until the release of this one.
Any book by Ethan Jones is sure to be well written with an entertaining storyline. With any of his thrillers you are certain to get great action scenes coupled with a story that will grab hold and drag you to the end before you can catch your breath. This delivers on all those things and more. Justin Hall is in the thick of the action as usual but this time he has friends and even a few enemies along for the ride. Who can he trust and will they truly watch his back when the bullets start to fly? Another superb read from Ethan Jones who just keeps proving he’s one of the best in the business.
I usually do not read novels which have to do with war or military themes, but I picked up this novel to give it a try and was glad that I did even though it is the number 6. I enjoy the action involved story line and the characters are very well developed. I was feeling like I was right there in the thick of it and really felt in tune with the characters of the novel. I have only read the first 5 chapters of the book but am looking forward to reading the rest of the book. It is a must read!!! I highly recommend it!!!
This installment of the Justin/Carrie series is more of the same. That is not bad though. Ethan has written a good series while showcasing his increasing skills as an author. This book starts off with 5 chapters of intense action that sets a tone for the rest of the book. My rating reflects my opinion that this series has gotten a bit too long in the tooth. Do not get me wrong, it is still a great read for the novices to this series and the die hard Justin and Carrie fans.
I received an advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book deals with terrorism similar to what is presently developing in the Middle East, an informant, and a rogue agent. The author writes a fast paced novel full of action, thrills, suspense, and danger with many unexpected twists and turns. The writing is very descriptive with well-developed characters. I recommend this book.
I got a preview of the book from the author in epub format.
So far it has been fast paced and thrilling. This is my first book in the Justin Hall series. Can't wait to read the rest. Never before have I read a book with a Canadian spy agent. Kudos to Ethan Jones for bringing Justin Hall into the reading world.
Simply put, an amazing read, bursting with action. Israel and Palestine are desperately trying to work out a peace treaty. Different militant factions, terrorists view Palestinians actions as a betrayal. The Israeli prime minister is marked for assassination, by one of his own. Non stop action!! A believable scenario. I highly recommend!!
Another incredible spy page-turner I couldn’t put down until I finished it
An action packed drama story set in Germany and the Middle East kept me reading this incredible, fascinating page-turner following the twists and turns that faced Justin and Carrie. Ethan Jones never disappoints me with his fast paced stories which I highly recommend.
Didn't disappoint. A chilling account where agents Justin and Carrie take you in the thick of Iraq and deals with terrorist, deception and battle at its finest. Action packed and informative from page one!
Shadow Agents proves why Ethan Jones belongs to the genre of the top thriller writers . The pace doesn't let up, and the chemistry and understanding between Justin and Carrie is remarkable. A not to be missed book.
There's Always an Enemy of the State Who Is Assured They Alone Will Succeed
I know these books/stories are fiction and some pretty fantastical events and plots are carried out to perfection by the CIS and other alphabet agencies. But just as the middle east terror groups are convinced that they will kill all of the infidels, they have come up on the short end of the stick many more times than can be counted.
In reading Shadow Agents we get a feel for the fluid state of extremist groups, they can be just as foolish in their exploitation of indigenous people as has any coalition force. I enjoy the interactions of characters ad they live out real case scenarios in places I'll never see and bring to fruition operations I'll never be able to complete. Justin and Carrie are friends who fight for their national safety and sovereignty without complaining and with dignity. Not real life, or is it? Five glorious and golden stars!
Berlin's Central Railway Station is the potential location of a Palestinian terror cell of so-called sleepers, (meaning they've been in place living ostensibly normal lives, waiting for the call to arms), in order to save international statesmen and their peace pact for Israel. Naturally our heroes Justin Hall and Carrie O'Connor are soon hot on the killers' trail, making every possible effort to foil the suicide bombers. Will their mission succeed? Why do they go to Tel Aviv? What's the terrorists' next target and where will it lead the intrepid CIS duo? Hold on tight to the edge of your seat as you turn one exciting page after another, in Book 6 in Ethan Jones' wonderful Justin Hall series, Shadow Agents...it's guaranteed to thrill!
Justin Hall and Carrie O'Connor of CIS are sent to Berlin as intel says there is going to be a terrorist attack and they are to assist with stopping the attack. The attack is foiled and when one of the attackers gets away Justin is the only one who can identify him. The pair is then sent to Israel to meet their boss and assist as the same group who attacked Berlin is rumored to be planning the assassinate the Prime Minister of Israel. The actual attacker surprises everyone as it not at all who it was rumored to be.
Another intriguing read in this series! Some of the scenes you could liken them to what's actually happening today. Once again I was able to travel to other parts of the world with such descriptive wording. I found myself flinching when Justin was shot. Laughed out loud with them and cried at the sad stories. On to the next one!!
Shadow Agents (Justin Hall #6) is an adventure story with thrills and excitement at almost every turn of the page !
The author sets the suspenseful tone as he introduces the Mossad operatives when they are in the home of the top guy of a terrorist group. We are sitting on the edge of our seats waiting to see what happens. Then the bullets flies . . .
The writing is very descriptive and it’s just like we are watching an adventure film on the big screen.
It’s my first time reading this series and I’ll definitely seek out the others. Thank you to the author for the e-book version of the novel.
Justin Hall and Carrie O’Conner returns as agents for the Canadian Intelligent Service searching for a Palestine sleeper cell in Germany. Barely managing to prevent a major suicidal bombing at Berlin’s Central Train Station with minor incidents.
One of the cell members disappears and Justin is the only one who can identify him and Carrie is sent to help him track the fugitive. They are taken to many places as they seek him but are they being led astray.
Justin takes us on another wild ride as we are drawn by the fast paced read. Keeps up wanting to read more about their journey to save the world.
