Your daughter falls in love with your best friend’s husband. Whose side are you on?

As I walk through the front door of my daughter Scarlett’s house, looking forward to the birthday lunch we have planned, nothing can prepare me what I see. Andrew is here too, my best friend’s husband… Scarlett and Andrew say they are in love. Despite the 25-year age gap, they want to be together.

My best friend Philippa and I have known each other for 50 years. Our daughters are more like sisters. We know everything about each other. And Philippa’s the only person in the world who knows my darkest secret.

She’d decided to leave Andrew. They’d drifted apart. My husband and I were devastated – her desire for a different kind of life broke up our happy little group – but I supported her.

Now, seeing Andrew and Scarlett together… I can’t take it in.

My husband is horrified, and my loyalties are all over the place. Scarlett begs me to keep her secret from Philippa. Begs me to understand that, despite the age gap and the way in which they came together, she and Andrew are perfect for each other.

I cannot lose my daughter over this but how can I betray my best friend? How can I risk her sharing the secret that could break apart my own family?

And what would happen if my family found out who I really am?

Whose Side Are You On? is an utterly page-turning read about the secrets and lies that can tear a family apart from the bestselling author of The Silent Wife and The Woman I Was Before. Fans of Liane Moriarty and Diane Chamberlain will be completely gripped!

Holy Moly, this book put me and the characters through the ringer! Whose Side Are You On? A gripping emotional page-turner full of family secrets is equal parts gripping, thought provoking, and emotional. Whew! This book had me wondering 'just how much can one person take?" Man, many scenes where like gut punches to the heart and I loved every second of it!

Jackie and Phillipa have been best friends forever. They have been there for each other though the ups, downs, births and all the family events in-between. When Phillipa and her husband, Andrew, get divorced, Jackie is there for Phillipa. They are friends after all, and nothing can come between them. Jackie had no idea just how much things were going to change until she and her husband stopped by their daughter, Scarlett's home and find her there with Andrew! Talk about a shocker! Her daughter is in a relationship with her best friend's ex-husband! Talk about Awkward!!!! Her daughter tells her that they are in love while Jackie and her husband are shocked beyond belief! They have been friends with Andrew throughout his marriage to Phillipa. Andrew has seen Scarlett grow up and Scarlett is best friends with daughter. Talk about messy! This is such an uncomfortable moment, and the author did a great job showing the discomfort, shock, and disbelief of Jackie and her husband.

Whose Side Are You On? A gripping emotional page-turner full of family secrets took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions! I felt for every single character in this book. Man, talk about a messy situation full of likeable characters. I felt the author did a fabulous job of showing how each character was affected and how they reacted. The reactions felt real, and I could understand where each character was coming from. The characters are put in uncomfortable situations, their loyalties and relationships are tested, emotions are raw, tensions are high, and choices will be made.

What an emotional and gripping book! I had a hard time putting this book down as I was fully invested in the characters and their lives. This is a great book for book clubs as there is so much to discuss in this riveting book.

Wonderfully written, well thought out, thought provoking, moving and hard to put down! This is the second book I have read by Kerry Fisher, and I look forward to reading more of this author's books in the future.

Whose Side Are You On? is a tense melodrama that asks the title question.
Two older couples Jackie and Ian, Philippa and Andrew, have been friends for decades and have had lots of adventures together and shared secrets.
Their daughters have been best friends forever.
Then Philippa and Ian seperate.
As the months pass Jackie and Ian go to their daughter Scarlett’s place and get the shock of their lives.
Andrew and Scarlett are in a relationship.
What happens next is disarray, lies, drama and a roller coaster of emotions.
I enjoyed this story.
Thought provoking, great for discussion, credible and very realistic.
A character driven narrative that will suck you in.

When you unexpectedly meet your adult daughter's new partner, it can be a very pleasant experience. However, for Ian and Jackie, it feels like a cold shower when they see who it is – none other than the ex-husband of Jackie’s best friend, Philippa...

Jackie suddenly finds herself caught between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, she wants to support her daughter in her choice, even if she doesn’t approve. On the other hand, she wants to be honest with Philippa. Whose side is she really on?

I thought this was a brilliantly written story, full of emotion, and it really gave me something to think about.
I asked myself whose side I would be on, and I found the answer very quickly. My child would always be able to count on my loyalty, especially if I could see she was truly happy—happier than I had ever seen her—even if the people around her thought the relationship was completely unacceptable. Of course, I should mention that I don’t have a secret that a friend could expose, but even if I did, I believe I’d have to be mature enough to own up to it and face the consequences.

I also understood Jackie and thought Andrew was a fantastic character. I was less impressed with Ian and Philippa’s behavior, and Scarlett was sometimes a bit too quick to judge. Sometimes you need to put yourself in someone else’s shoes before you throw the first stone...

To me, this is a fine piece of writing, and it truly touched me. It was beautiful, emotional, and captivating. 5 stars!

Thank you

Jackie and Phillipa have been friends since primary school, with their husbands and 2 daughters they've celebrated Birthdays, Christmases, holidays and everything in between. But when Phillipa decides that she wants a divorce from Andrew things become very complicated indeed. Not only not wanting to take sides in their decision, Jackie and Ian have the awful quandory when their daughter, Scarlett and Andrew embark on a relationship.
This book is pure genius, one minute I was feeling for Jackie, the next feeling sorry for Phillipa. The decisions made gave such moral dilemmas, what would you do in each situation. There is no right or wrong as you know you're going to hurt someone. For Jackie, it's made more difficult when Phillipa knows something about the past that's always been a secret from Scarlett. Will the presents events mean the past comes back.
I raced through this book, I just couldn't put it down.

An emotional and intriguing tale of friendships, family, and loyalty. Whose Side Are You On? Is Kerry Fishers' latest release, and it's one that has you overthinking a number of things as you read.

We meet Jackie, a woman who finds herself in such an impossible situation. Her best friend, Philippa, has been by her side since childhood. Philippa comes to the decision that she doesn't feel she wants to be with her husband, Andrew, anymore. This obviously throws the two families into confusion and having to find their way through this life changing decision. Nobody realises that there is a bigger decision on the way, one which will test everyone's loyalty and friendship too!

I felt so bad for Jackie. It's the saying"between a rock and a hard place" that comes to mind. Having to choose between a daughter and a best friend, especially one who knows your darkest and deepest secret, is an impossible choice. Kerry Fisher has done a magnificent job to weave this story in such a layered and complex way. It highlights the issues every parent comes up against in some form or other.

I was hoping that Jackie would find the strength to break the bond of complicity with her secret
This would free her so much. Having to choose between your child and your oldest friend is so hard! I was so invested in these characters and so much, Jackie. I actually put myself in her shoes as I read this. If I wasn't reading, I was thinking about it.

I always appreciate a thought-provoking book, and this is one that does just that! I couldn't leave it for any length of time, so I was finished so quickly. I will say that I may have finished the book, but I am still thinking about it even now.

What an emotional rollercoaster of a book! Starting with two families that are so close the do everything together to families and friendships torn apart.

Poor Jackie really went to hell and back during the course of the book. All she did was love the people in her life and that all blew up because of people falling out of and in love with other people.

There is only so far you can stretch a friendship

Two families with shared histories and lots of happy memories made together over the last three decades are put to the test in this compelling family drama.
Jackie and Philippa have been friends since childhood so it’s not surprising that she is the one who knows Jackie’s darkest secret. Such is the strength and depth of their friendship that Jackie thinks that this will never be revealed. When Philippa decides that her husband Andrew is not the person she wants to spend her retirement with, the two families are thrown in to turmoil. Jackie, Ian, Philippa and Andrew have shared so much together and their daughters Scarlett and Abigail are best friends but how will the relationship move forward now that Philippa and Andrew have separated?
However, things are about to become much worse and Jackie and Philippa’s friendship is put to the test when Jackie has to decide whose side she is on; her daughter Scarlett’s or her best friend Philippa’s.
What a well written book with such an amazing portrayal of all the main characters in this drama. I couldn’t put this book down. I just had to know how it was all going to end. I was reaching for the tissues by the end as it was such an emotional read. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced reading copy of this book in return for an unbiased review.

While visiting her daughter Scarlett for a birthday lunch, she is stunned to discover that Scarlett is in a relationship with Andrew—her best friend Philippa’s husband. Despite the 25-year age gap, the couple insists they’re in love. For decades, she and Philippa have been inseparable, their families deeply entwined. Philippa had confided in her about the decision to leave Andrew, a revelation that hurt everyone involved, but she remained by her friend’s side.

Now, seeing Andrew with her daughter throws everything into chaos. Her husband is shocked, her loyalties are painfully divided, and Scarlett begs her to keep the relationship a secret from Philippa. Scarlett believes this is true love. But protecting her daughter may mean betraying her oldest friend—and risking the exposure of a dark secret Philippa knows about her, one that could tear her own family apart if it ever came to light. She’s left asking herself: whose side is she really on?

What a powerful and emotional read. From the very first page, the story grips tightly and refuses to let go. Every twist and turn lands with intensity, pulling the reader deeper into the tangled relationships and impossible choices. It’s one of those rare books that demands to be devoured in a single sitting—chores, meals, everything else forgotten. The writing is breathtaking, and the emotional resonance lingers long after the final page. A truly unforgettable novel—absolutely a standout favorite.

My brain and heart shattered into a million tiny shards reading this twisted, suspenseful and emotive multiple perspective thriller. The premise at first sounded almost trashy so I had reservations but man, am I glad to be wrong about that! A great thriller is incredible enough but this...this hit me like a brick. There are so many layers, so many what ifs. The choice of one can have far-reaching consequences for many.

Jackie's friend of fifty years, Philippa, announced she was leaving her husband. Jackie's shock was overshadowed by her and her husband Ian's adult daughter Scarlett's new relationship with her friend's husband, Andrew. But Scarlett makes her parents promise not to tell. And then there was Jackie's daughter's friend who had news of her own. Each character was forced into difficulties and decisions which would affect everyone else in the circle of friends and family. Promises were made and broken and loyalties hung by threads. Do you side with your dearest friend who was practically family or your actual family and at what cost? The dynamics here are just unreal, a delicious jumbled mess. I was on tenterhooks the entire time and felt a kaleidoscope of emotions. The ending, though.

In addition to mystery, deception and romance, there is gorgeous writing with clever insight. This novel has depth and oomph which is lovely in a thriller. Never was I tempted to skip a single word yet I was gnawing my arm off by the time I reached the end. I loved, loved, loved this! If only I could read it for the first time all over again.

Oh wow, where to begin with this one? 🥹

The premise of the story is so taboo and I really questioned whether I’d be able to relate to whatever story was to be told, because I mean come on… your daughter with your best friend’s (ex) husband? Sounds so.. Jerry Springer. So what would you do? Who would you side with? What emotions and depth can go into this situation from all parties? Answer is.. A LOT!

I was in for a shock because this story was GRIPPING. I started it last night and just finished it, in under 24 hours. The amount of emotional I felt for the characters in this story has left me needing a nap, especially after the twist at the end, if you want to call it that. My heart broke for all involved, but for different reasons. Honestly, the hardest one for me to relate to was Scarlett; she was so selfish and juvenile to me, like a spoiled child. In the end, she seemingly was coming into her own.

I mean.. I just really feel like I knew everyone involved and was completely invested and the ending still has me.. 😢.

I don’t think I’ve read anything by this author before but I definitely will be in the future. If the other books are anything like this one, I’ll have to emotionally prepare myself first! 5 ⭐️

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this doozy of an ARC!

There's something deeply satisfying about diving into a new Kerry Fisher book. You know quality writing will ooze from every page. That your emotions will be shaken, feelings thrown around until you're not sure whose side you're on. Almost the title of the book. A book that examines lifelong allegiances, friendships torn apart by secrets and betrayals. Whose side was I on?
Well, my heart went out to virtually everyone, to be honest. What a horrible dilemma, to discover your daughter has fallen for your best friend's husband. Loyalties are stretched to the limit, and — bubbling away below the surface — a secret lurks that could destroy everything.
I took so many notes, chiefly because I was in awe of the author's deft way with words. Here are just a few:
I didn't need someone else sprinkling disappointed dust over my life choices.
A tiny part of my brain scrambled into the pulpit of reason, preaching for restraint, for reflection.
Loving the right person for me but the wrong person for everyone else was such a strange alchemy of remorse and elation.

I gasped near the end. And felt lucky to have read such a powerful, thought-provoking book. Highly recommended.

Whose Side Are You On is an emotional rollercoaster of a read.
Scarlett is falling for her mother’s best friends recently separated from husband! Scarlett’s mother, Jackie is struggling with whose side to be on so that she doesn’t lose her daughter or her best friend. Things turn for the worst and Philippa decides to reveal Jackie’s long hidden secret into the mix making family life a lot harder than it was. Philippa has revealed this to help herself deal with the fact that Scarlett is very much at home with her ex husband and is now expecting a baby. Philippa’s own daughter has just got married and is struggling to conceive so this has hit a lot harder. Jackie is grieving her lost friend and trying to patch things up with her husband and daughter.
This was a really good read and being a parent myself I wouldn’t know what to do! The storyline was well, developed and all the characters were likeable and the book moved along at a good pace. The ending was very abrupt but with thought afterwards it was the best one fitting for the story.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

If you haven’t read a Kerry Fisher book you should. She has an amazing ability to capture the views and thoughts from all parties and she has a keen insight into the intricate relationships of mother and child.

And this my friends was no different. And it hit close to home as, dare I say an older not necessarily matured but seasoned by life woman. In “whose side are you on “ she dives deep into friendship, marriage, motherhood, honesty, trust, heartache, and the unthinkable that can bring you closer or tear you apart.

Never have I related so much to a character than I did Jackie, not that I have experienced a grown child making the decisions Scarlett did but I truly understood and felt what Jackie felt. And at one point in the story I cried so hard the words blurred in the page.

I call this a coming of age ( the age and stage of aging where people start considering you mature and yet you feel so not that old age) book. It leaves you thinking about your relationships and what you would do and where your loyalties lie? In your marriage, in your lifelong friendships or with your children??

Definitely a gripping story to get you thinking, whose side are you on ??

If you are looking for a modern day story that has some scandalous drama then this is the novel for you. How would a mother react when their own daughter was dating not only twice her age but also the ex husband of her best friend? As someone who has never had children this would be difficult because it would involve taking sides and the last thing I would want to do is step on the toes of someone who has been a friend for a long time. Overall despite the difficult subject this book was a very interesting read.
Our focus on the book is a woman named Jackie who has been friends with Philippa for nearly fifty years. Even their daughters are best friends. However, Philippa and her husband Andrew drift apart and decide to call it quits. However to make matters worse Jackie's daughter Scarlett decides to take up with Andrew. Suddenly Jackie is caught in the middle with trying to be supportive to her daughter and trying to be loyal to her best friend.
I received an arc copy from Netgalley and all opinions are of my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC Review – Whose Side Are You On? by @kerryfisherwrites

As soon as Jackie walks through the door and discovers her daughter Scarlett is in a relationship with Andrew, her best friend’s husband 😳, I knew this book was going to be a rollercoaster.

Kerry Fisher delivers a raw, emotional family drama that dives into loyalty, betrayal, and the impossible choices we face when the people we love are on opposite sides. Jackie is such a relatable character, torn between supporting her daughter and staying loyal to her oldest friend. I really felt for her throughout!

It’s messy, tense, and full of those “what would I do?” moments. I docked a star only because I wanted a bit more insight into Andrew’s motivations, but overall this was a gripping and thought-provoking read I couldn’t put down. 💔🔥

Huge thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC, this is one family drama you won’t forget.

What an absolutely wonderful book! I loved every minute spent within its pages. Definitely a 'what would I do in that situation' storyline. The characters are all so believable. My heart broke for Jackie being put into an impossible situation by her daughter, Scarlett who expects her to join in her deception in keeping a secret that is going to destroy her best friend's life when that secret is revealed as it is destined to be. Jackie and Phillipa are more like sisters than friends and Scarlett's affair with Phillipa's husband will tear apart both families. I thought that Scarlett was very selfish and immature for a 30 year old and her treatment of her mum often cruel and unnecessary. I was desperate for Jackie's decades old secret to be revealed and felt her pain and betrayal in the way it was finally done. I can't wait to read more books by this excellent author. This was a terrific read that I highly recommend. My thanks to Netgally and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

When Jackie’s best friend Philippa announces she is going to split from her husband Jackie starts worrying about what it will mean for their friendship as over the years as couples the two families have been intertwined and she doesn’t want anything to change. As they all start to navigate the new normal and with Phillips’s daughter and her daughters best friend about to get married the last thing she expects is to find her daughter in bed with her Philippas ex husband. As she struggles to make sense of the fact a man that has been in been in her daughters life since birth is now her partner she struggles to face her friend and when the truth comes out it’s her that her friend blames. Along with the hurt Jackie starts to worry that some secrets only a best friend can know will start to come out as well, this is an honest look at family dynamics and friendships that broke me a little by the end but a great read!

This is an emotionally charged thriller that digs into themes of loyalty and betrayal. Ethical dilemmas arise between different family members and close friends, and a choice will have to be made as to who you owe your loyalty to.

When a mother and father accidentally discover that their daughter is sleeping with their longtime family friend, they must decide whether or not to keep that secret and who would be hurt most by the truth. Either way, someone will be hurt and feel betrayed. To make matters worse, their daughter is 25 years younger than her new beau, and the parents are still close friends with the ex-wife of the older boyfriend. To choose a side is like walking a tightrope, but is family more important than friendship?

This character-driven novel is compelling and captivating. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a great thriller. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy.

💬 "We had to pick a side, which was incompatible with picking each other."

This book had my head reeling. What would I do if I were Jackie? Scarlett Phillippa? Abigail? Was Andrew a Creepy
predator, or a man who fell in love? It was a story about the things that drive us apart, and the tragedies that bring us together.

I absolutely devoured this book. I could identify in some way with all the characters, and absolutely understood whilst they all made the choices they did. I wanted to reach inside the book and give Jackie a hug, unfortunately I know all too well how post-natal depression can affect you and how hard it can be to ask for help.

This book made me laugh, cry and question how I'd react in the same situation. I was also desperate to find out what Jackie's secret was, and I was way off the mark!

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish and definitely recommend it.

Where do I even begin??? Imagine having to choose between your best friend and her husband or your own daughter. Philippa isn't just any best friend,, she is like a sister. Now your daughter has fallen in love with the best friends husband whom she is only separated from. This book was filled with all kinds of emotions and turns. I found myself rooting for Scarlett and Andrew and one point, then I wasn't. Then I was supporting Phillipa and Jackie, and then I wasn't. Talk about a rollercoaster! I could not put this book down.

I loved everything about this book. Kerry Fisher is a genius when it comes to psychological thrillers. I do not give out 5 stars often, but this one deserved 10! An absolute must read.

Whose Side Are You On by Kerry Fisher
Whew. This was unexpected in so many ways. I love how this dove into the complexities of relationships and family dynamics.

The strength in friendship and parenthood is so beautifully defined throughout this book. I found myself loving these characters through all their flaws and mistakes.

I love how generational this book felt, but also very present. The power of love and forgiveness was a strong theme, and boy, was it powerful. The power behind being a mother, friend, or partner is immense. There is a weight, a responsibility that we don’t consider when we step into the position.

Once I was on this story, I was hooked. I was feeling everything. The emotions were high, and the things at stake were higher. This was beautifully written, heartbreakingly delivered, and was such a realistic plot.

I loved the premise of this story but ultimately the story did not deliver the emotional tug I was expecting. I found the story melodramatic and the themes over done. I rolled my eyes more times that I can count as I was reading.

The story also teases the hidden secret and refers to it often. When the secret was finally revealed I found myself disappointed. And I was disappointed in almost every character in this book. Everyone just seemed emotionally immature and selfish.

There were also several chapters in italics that truly adding nothing to the story. I know they were supposed to be some foreshadowing of the "secret" but for me they did not work at all.

Overall this story was a bit of a let down for me. However, I appear to be a minority voice so if you like emotional, family dramas then this one may be worth checking out for yourself.

An emotional story. And true to life, wouldn't be the first time there was a romance between an older man and a younger woman. But would you accept the relationship if it was the ex husband of your oldest friend and your daughter?
Very difficult for a parent to come to terms with. But as I have learned, through a long life, your children come first. And quite honestly, the more you tell them that they shouldn't do something, the more stubborn they will be.
I couldn't put this book down, I wanted to see how it ended. How the relationship turned out in the end.
Such sadness as well.

I do recommend this for those that love a family drama.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for my copy of #Whose Side Are You On? by Kerry Fisher.
You've known your best friend Phillipa since school over 50 years, your husbands are best friends, your daughters are best friends.
But then Phillipa decides she wants something different and she's divorcing Andrew. How are you going to cope with the new dynamics?
Will you lose one of them, have to take sides?
Things are going to get so much worse. This is just the beginning of a tangled web of lies and deception.
You will become so immersed in this story; you'll find yourself taking sides and shouting at the characters.
Really worth the read. Family dynamics at its best.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy of Whose Side Are You On? Oh my gosh a tearjerker ALL THE WAY!!! WOW JUST WOW! What an emotionally packed book. There was a no win situation for Jackie at all, such a difficult dilemma she was in. Ian was one of the nicest, moral characters I’ve ever read about. Philippe and Jackie’s relationship was EXACTLY the way a best friend relationship is. Just a phenomenal plot and cast of characters. I cried so much at the ending, I don’t know when my eyes will not be red. Thank you again very much.

Wow what a messy tightly woven plot!! I felt like this was a miniseries on tv that I was watching unsure of what would happen next.
Jackie’s best friend Philippa decides to divorce her husband but once he leaves he develops a relationship with Jackie’s daughter.
What an impossible situation!!! I sympathized with Jackie because she couldn’t win no matter what she did.
Every situation and feeling that reverberated was so plausible!
How certain things are lost, resolved, and regained is truly a testament to Fisher’s writing abilities.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the early copy.
