Finding Master Right

Rate this book
Kate’s fantasies have always featured sexy, dominant, crop-wielding men, but finding one in real life was easier said than done. She’s used to getting what she wants, but the creeps that keep flirting with her aren’t her kink.

Enter Banner. His intensity scares her—he’s looking for a slave, and Kate doesn’t want to be one. But when he offers to help find the perfect Dom for her, she’s glad to have a matchmaker and protector.

Banner knows he and Kate aren’t sexually compatible, so what better way to get the tasty almost-vanilla girl out of his head than finding her a good Dom? As it becomes clear that Kate has no clue what she wants when it comes to kink, he devises a series of experiments to help her figure things out—a perfect plan, if he could stop himself from training and bedding her. Obsessing about owning a girl who wants to be free isn’t healthy. But when Banner finds the right Dom to collar Kate, how will he hand over the leash?

“Your kink is not my kink, but your kink is okay.”

Kate wants into the world of BDSM, but she doesn't know where to begin. Scared of the weirdo's and the "cock-shot creeps", her friend living the life throws a party for Kate to meet the so called Doms to see if there is one she feels comfortable enough to go on this journey with. But nothing prepared her to be saved by the big bad wolf...

Banner is a man looking for a new slave, especially a newbie to his world ... but one look at Kate calls on all his protective instincts he has and he is determined to help Kate find a Dom; a Dom worthy of her trust. Only when help turns into something more, does he realize he's not so sure he can just pass her off.
If I was your Master I would worship you. As my slave you would be my queen.

Caught up in her head and the formalities of it all, Kate is focusing too much on words rather than the way her body and heart feels. Both Banner and Kate are fighting a losing battle, but what are "Words . . .They only mean what you make them mean.” But some things you have to realize on your own before it is too late.

Finding Master Right is a fun little book with the beginnings of kink, never really delving into the more kinkier side of the lifestyle. Kate with her assumptions could have been any girl off the street, motivated by curiosity and ignorant with her judgments. Banner is a delicious man who drover her body wild, but cherished her as if she was his most precious treasure. Clearly what we see as readers, since we are privy to both their point of views, makes it a tad bit frustrating when they are so blind. It was a fun read, nothing over the top or overly wild, just a good read if you are looking for something on the lighter side of kink.

The leash handle was wrapped around his hand, but which one of them was truly the captive?
~ BANNER

description

Kate Lambert is at a Halloween party, thrown specifically for her by her best friend Janine, to help Kate find herself a Dom. Yes, Kate knows absolutely nothing about BDSM other than the disturbing images and videos on the internet, but she has this feeling that it's exactly what she's always been looking for, craving for, waiting for...

But she just can't connect with any of the guys she's already met...until Banner Jennings. The minute their eyes meet, there is a zing that travels all through her body and awakens something dark and delicious inside her. There is a slight problem though: Banner wants A SLAVE and Kate isn't sure she can handle a Master.

description

Banner's been looking for a slave for years and has left a trail of heart-broken subs on his way. When he sees Kate Lambert at a Halloween party he wasn't even very fond of attending, he senses something different about her. Something that he wants to discover for himself. Something that calls to him to possess... There is a slight problem though: Kate doesn't want to be a slave.

description

Staying away from her is out of the question, so Banner decides to become her trainer, her protector, her "Dom-shopper". He is to help her figure out what she desires and find a suitable Dom for her. But of course, with time, the lines start blurring, and Kate and Banner find out that keeping things simple is rather impossible when the person you're with feels like...a soulmate.

Having the wolf guard Little Red Riding Hood had not only been a bad idea, but it was especially hard on the poor, starving wolf.

OVERALL: I've been a total sucker for Master/slave stories since I had the pleasure of reading the brilliant Cherise Sinclair's To Command and Collar and met Master Raoul... (GOSH, even thinking about him gives me the shivers...brrrr!) So when I read the blurb of FMR, I had to get my filthy hands on it! It was good, you guys... So damn good. Don't expect a mind-blowing plot, just dive in for the guilty pleasure, and you'll LOVE it! ;)

P.S: The characters reminded me of one of my favourite movies ever, SECRETARY. If you haven't watched it yet, you guys are missing out on so much...

4 Rogue Sub Stars ⭐

A sadist and a defiant submissive. You can already see the fireworks.

This man was going to eat her alive and make her beg for it.

Kate thinks she might be a submissive but being introduced into the scene only highlights that she is completely clueless.

From their initial introduction Banner is instantly attracted to Kate. However, recognising that Kate is vanilla to his inner sadist, he knows that the two of them can’t happen. Yet taking pity on her, Banner offers to mentor her until she finds the right dominant.

I’m a sadist, so maybe protecting you will balance out my karma.

It should have been a clear-cut arrangement. A few lessons in dominance and submission and Kate discovering what her kinks are. Except Kate’s wilful and obstinate behaviour pushes all his buttons. And this pesky little attraction she has for Banner, is wreaking havoc on her hormones and decisions.

Banner realises too late that this wasn’t his brightest idea. Kate’s rebellious nature is growing on him, but the fact remains, she does not want to be his slave. Throw in mind-blowing sex and this training isn’t feeling temporary.

If the glare had been meant to turn him to stone, her superpower only worked on his dick. At this point, keeping her training impersonal was an act. She’d completely charmed him.

Damn were these two stubborn. Together they were hot and explosive. Yet take them out of the bedroom and their beliefs created emotional damage. However, in this instance, sometimes you must let someone go to realise what you had.

"I thought I wanted perfection, but what I needed was you."

"But I am perfect, Master." She gave him a mischievous smile.

**Finding Master Right generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

Finding Master Right unfortunately was not a book for me. I have a feeling it's because I've some really excellent BDSM stories from some really excellent BDSM authors and my expectations are too high. This mixed with the "novice" feeling of the BDSM world this book gives and paired with a Dom who I could find no trust in at all - the story just didn't work. Master/Slave relationships must pride themselves on trust. When I can't trust either character I'll never relate to them and that's exactly what happened here.

Banner meets Kate at a BDSM matchmaking party thrown by Kate's friend who's a practitioner of the lifestyle. From the beginning Kate is curious about being dominated and wants to find a Dom. Her naivety threw me off. She wanted the lifestyle but didn't trust herself to be dominated and keep her self respect. Her character was head strong and while I love a brat who finds a Master there has to be balance. It seemed the character was made to be overly bratty and resistant. She was naive to so many aspects of the life yet Banner threw right into it when he suggests he become her BDSM "trainer". I didn't feel the care I want to feel from a Dom when it came to Banner. I felt recklessness, weakness, and a lack of trust of himself as well. He was hiding behind this "I'm a sadist" facade where I saw no trace of sadism in him at all.

I feel bad, the book got a lot of great reviews and I don't like to rate books this low at all. It's not a good feeling as a reviewer and I don't like it. There was some nagging feeling inside me that told me to finish this book because I wanted to find something I could connect with. I think the story will work for those readers who haven't immersed themselves into books that fully encompass a 24/7 Master/Slave relationship or books with hard core sadists. If that's what you're looking for however, Finding Master Right isn't your book. If you're looking for a novice view into the life, I guess this could work for you. But to me the whole Master/Slave dynamic - the BEAUTY of it - is built upon trust. Trust of oneself and trust of your partner. I felt neither of these characters trusted themselves and it influenced the whole tone of the book for me throwing off what I need to get from this type of relationship. It was too cliched, too over the top not allowing me to connect with either character. Quite honestly, I don't feel it's an honest portrayal of how these relationships should work.

That was EPIC!

At first i didn't like the book it was too dark and bit " too much for me " i couldn't handle it but i continued my reading and Holy fuck i fell in love with it , the two characters are stubborn as hell they are clearly in love with each other but none of them wants to lose control and admit it

Shit. Did she love him? Her emotions were too fucked up to say for sure. Right now, she just wanted to feel his arms around her, to breathe in his scent of soap, to know that there was someone in the world who would protect her at any cost. She fought back the urge to drive to his house just to see his face and hear his voice

just a little advice don't try to google "things you don't understand " i googled figging damn i'll never look at ginger root the same way again trust one when i say u'll regret it !

Note to self:
Self, do not attempt to read any other BDSM after a 5 star by an author you love. You should know better by now. I'm disappointed in your decision making lately. Clearly you haven't learned your lesson yet.

This very easily could have been a case of it's not the book but me, so please take this with a grain of salt as I didn't even get halfway before stopping this book. But sometimes you just know when something isn't for you, and to force yourself to continue and attempt to enjoy it is just doing the author and the book a great disservice. I tend to be picky when it comes to heroines as it is, and Kate sent me over the edge. She was just to OTT ornery for my tastes. She's curious about the BDSM lifestyle but at the same time she criticizes and demeans every part of it in an extremely immature way. It wasn't just a bratty sub behavior, it was just annoying. I'll definitely be giving the other books in this series a shot since the set up in a very interesting one and I enjoyed the writing style of these two authors. Unfortunately the heroine absolutely killed it for me. Add in the fact that I felt almost no chemistry between the H/h and that was all she wrote. But give it a try and see for yourself. Perhaps readers that haven't read much BDSM (or even ones that do) will enjoy this one more.

Wow. Just wow. I could begin and end my review with just those three words but it wouldn't do this awesome book any justice. This should be required reading for anyone new to BDSM in romances. I thought it was just THAT good.

Kate was a very good character. There were times that, for sure, I didn't like her. But I feel like she's the voice of reason, or the voice of the vanilla person, reading the book. A lot of the questions and issues that I people have with BDSM were exactly the same ones Kate had. Do I lose who I am? Can I be a modern woman and still let a man boss me around in the bedroom? Does it make me weak or less of a feminist to like being dominated in bed? Those questions and their underlying issues are what worry Kate about this arrangement or relationship that she's considering. I totally understood where she was coming from and I understood her hesitation but damn... part of me wanted her to let go of her preconceived notions about BDSM a lot sooner! At one point, before she makes her choice, it felt like she wasn't listening to her own body and she wasn't listening to the hero's words either. But can I really be mad at her? I mean, without misunderstandings and miscommunication, romance novels wouldn't be half as much fun!

Banner was awesome. I mean, his name alone is hot - Banner Jennings. Has there ever been a cooler name? I think not. And it totally matched Banner's character too. He's had to have immense control in his life, mostly over his emotions. He had to take on his father's successful business after his father passed away and he's had to be strong for his family who really took the father's loss extremely hard. Banner is a total nurturer and it was obvious in everything he did. It made it SO easy to fall in love with him. I fall in love with him is EXACTLY what I did. I really loved the scenes between him and his little brother, Rook. The patience and the understanding that Banner felt was clear but it had a light coating of big brother obnoxiousness to it. It was so funny and cute and sweet. I dare anyone to not fall for this dude!

Now, this is an erotic romance with heavy BDSM elements so it goes without saying that the Sexy Time was plentiful and pretty hot. When I say "heavy" BDSM, I mean that it's a central theme in the book. Some of it is hinted at and plenty is shown but it was in NO way over the top or scary. The relationship between Banner and Kate progressed in a realistic way, as far as two people getting to know each other, etc. I liked that Kate's fears were first and foremost because it showcased some misconceptions about certain aspects of BDSM and allowed the authors (via the characters) to clarify things. I was worried that Banner was going to have to sacrifice his needs in order to satisfy and stay with Kate but the authors made it so that Banner was so into Kate and vice versa that he didn't have to sacrifice much of anything at all.

I seriously loved this book. It delved into Dom/sub relationships and Master/slave relationships and revealed both to be interesting and sexy. To be loved and cherished as Kate is by the end of the book is exactly what many people are looking for. I also loved that honesty was emphasized, since it's a key component in ANY relationship, not just the more risque ones. I think this book is PERFECT for anyone interested in trying erotic romance or romance novels with a BDSM element. Kate is a perfect entree into the BDSM world because she knows a little but has A LOT to learn. Even I had no idea what "figging"* was until this book and trust me, I was as shocked as Kate! Laughs, love, and drama abound in this book and I'm dying to see what these authors do next!

*Don't Google figging without 1) turning off your Safe Search filters and 2) making sure you're alone in the room! ;)

4-4.5 ”Master Banner” stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fear mixed with excitement, making her belly flutter. “What do I make you want to do?”
Banner’s eyes narrowed, dark and ominous. “Hurt you, control you. Make you come.”

First read by a new to me author. No matter how many times I read BDSM, it’s never enough. It is one of my top favourite tropes. Luckily I found this one and loved the blurb, the master and slave aspect can be from mild to extreme, it can either be a hit or a miss, fortunately it was a hit for me. The writing of this author was flawless. I liked how she build it up and the depth she provides to the characters. It’s definitely an amazing start to the series and am already looking forward to the next.

Kate has watched her best friend find peace in being a sub and part of the BDSM scene which has left her more than intrigued. She’s a virgin when it comes to it and is basically trying to find whether or not it’s something she’ll enjoy. Just when she’s given up hope on finding a Dom, she stumbles upon banner who she is drawn to but turns out his tastes run a little extreme which is definitely not something she’s into. What he’s looking for is a slave 24/7.

Kate is an independent woman and has come a long way. The idea of being a slave goes beyond all her beliefs. So when he offers her to simply introduce to this lifestyle and help her find a Dom, she agrees. Knowing their goals are different, it still doesn’t diminishes their attraction or chemistry between the two. Soon lines start to become blur. I loved the tension between the two.

He took a step closer, so close she could feel the heat from his body against hers. “And how do I make you feel?”
“Like I’m losing control.” It was barely a whisper, but she knew he’d heard. She stared at his chest, avoiding the disappointment probably written on his face.
“That’s the point.”
“I don’t like it.”
“No.” He put his finger under her chin to tilt her head up, then gazed into her eyes. “You love it.”

Kate is someone you’ll either love or hate. I’ll admit she annoyed me at first with how she’s always against acting as a submissive even though she wants to learn. I also understood where she was coming from. She was trying her best to understand what exactly is a master/slave relation, being an outsider makes it tough to understand especially when you are new. You’re going to need a little patience just like banner had and trust me you’ll end up loving her and their journey will feel beautiful. Usually it’s a the hero we need patience with so why not the heroine.

”For a Master,” he paused, as if considering his words carefully. “The girl is mine. Period. No time limit. No off switch. And when a woman agrees to be mine, she’s placing her heart in my hands and trusting that I’ll keep it safe. In return, I provide for her, I protect her, I control her pleasure, but I also give her pain and demand she take it for me.” His eyes darkened, she could almost see the sadism rising in them. “I take a lot, but I give more. There is no stronger bond. Not marriage, not fancy words or vows, not rings or matching tattoos . . . Nothing.”

Banner was my favourite throughout. The man was every bit a Master. His energy was intense and so dominating. Who wouldn’t crave his touch. He knew they both wanted different things, it still didn’t stop him for falling for her and the fact he was willing to compromise proved his love. Not only that he truly was a heartthrob. I loved his interactions with his younger brother. The way he was patient with Kate and especially the way he took control of her.

He squeezed harder and she squealed.
“I asked you once, Kate, you’ll regret it if I have to ask you again. Whose good girl are you?” The dark seduction of his voice and the threat between her legs, his teasing, and all of the build up to today . . .
A loud keening sound escaped her as she struggled to form words. She tried to fight her way back from the edge, but she could feel her body teetering, ready to come, impatient and hopeful.
“I’m yours, Master!”

Now let’s talk about the Master/slave relationship here. The author did a commendable job of making it seem beautiful. It never once felt degrading or cheap. You can tell as much respect the Dom expects, he gives back just as much in return. His slave is his queen. The intimate scenes were super filthy and hot and oh so dirty. If I could have a Dom for myself, I would. Their was plenty of steam to keep me satisfied.

”I’ll be your slave,” she blurted.
He drew back. “What?”
“I decided it doesn’t really matter what you call us. Words . . .” She shook her head. “They only mean what you make them mean.”
“No, you don’t want that. I won’t force you into something you don’t want.”
“I do want it. I mean . . . I want what we’ve been doing. If that’s what you would call a Master/slave dynamic, then I guess . . . I guess that means I’m already your slave. I have been for months.” As a second thought, she met his eyes and added, “Your slave. Not just anyone’s. Only yours.”

My only reason for not giving it a full five star was the period where they separated. I get that distance was needed for Kate to realise her feelings but her being with his best friend as a sub for a month even though there was no cheating was unnecessary. Other than that I absolutely loved this one. The couple was truly meant for each other.

I recommend this to all those who are looking for a good erotica. ♥️

Excellent exploration of BDSM in an erotic romance. Lovely to see a story written by someone who has correctly portrayed the dance of negotiation. Sometimes you do have to compromise in such a power exchange. Every Dom is different, as is every submissive. Great story.
Addendum. I find it curious when people who aren't in the lifestyle question the way BDSM is shown in a book written by those who are.

Oh. my. goodness. This book is seriously hot. The characters could not be more suited to each other. The authors did a fabulous job combining opposites with steamy attraction that just wasn't supposed to be... But is was, but it wasn't supposed to. Oh, what a wonderful web we weave.

This book has all of the things we love in an erotic romance. Hot guys, the innocence of the curious, the smart mouth banter, intelligence, wit, humor, passion, soft-hearted men, the love of family, good friends, love, and steamy scenes that will get your heart pumping! Banner is a gem and a delicious indulgence in a book boyfriend!

This is the first book I have read by this co-author combo but it will certainly not be the last. Grab this one if you love erotic romances that keep you engaged throughout. Could not put it down!

I'm glad that i could finish it! Almost DNF. BDSM is not a new theme for me. I was hoping this book is good as the others. Clearly, it's quite disappointing with what I've found.

I really want to say this out loud.

DEAR KATE, YOU SHOULD STAY VANILLA!!!

She's annoying!!! Please do research. I think Kate is envy for her friend's lifestyle. I remember Banner said she's a cock tease. Yep! IMO, she's trying BDSM because her-so-boring life and job and alone + desperately need to get laid. She's too bratty and disrespectful and please, don't blame your feminist side. Poor Banner has been pussy whipped by Kate and can't thinking about her. Even he is in denial, he keep throwing Kate around to find the 'right Dom' because Banner want a slave, and Kate isn't the same boat with him. I don't know about him wanting a slave for what purpose? Banner always say he is a Sadist, but... *cricket* NOTHING! The BDSM and D/s relationship in this book should be in question. Is it for fun because they both just kinky or lifestyle?

Overall, the writing is fine. The sex is okay, not kinky but no chemistry. The chemistry is too rushed. The story line is kinda cheesy like others romantic thingy. The man keep pushing the woman until he realize that she's the one and HEA. It's not mind blowing but make me yawning and have the urge to finish it ASAP. Such a disappointment and it's not work for me. Maybe you?
*However, i will wait for Ambrose and Konstantin's story.*

I absolutely adored this book. It made me cry, it made my heart speed up, it got under my skin.

There was so much about this I loved and will be recommending it to anyone and everyone I can! This shows so many amazing aspects of BDSM. There were so many things I could relate to and I find this amazing. There is no one certain way doms, masters, sirs, dommes, submissives, slaves, pets, etc are suppose to be. Each person brings something different to it and this book shows that perfectly.

Kate´s curious about submission but not sure what to look for in a Dom. Her best friend trying to help isn´t that successful either, so Kate´s about to give up when Banner comes along.
A sadist Dom wanting a 24/7 slave isn´t what Kate wants, but he´s got knowledge and he´s willing to help her find what she´s looking for.
When feelings grow and deepen, can they make it work or should they just stay friends? Should either of them listen to their hearts or let reason prevail?
Contemporary romance, BDSM, smutty fluff and emotions in a great combo. Can´t wait for the next book in this series! =)

4 stars....this was a pretty damn good read! The writing was great and the story was believable. This is probably one of the best bdsm novels that Ive read, most of which have too many eye-rolling moments (dont get me wrong, sometimes I love them) with the hero being some super-i-can-read-your-mind-and-body-language type-Dom. Banner (what a cool name!) wasnt like that, but he was still super sexy and very dominant!

Kate was also a great heroine, new to the whole bdsm scene so she was just getting to learn what she wants. She was bratty, but not in an annoying way at all. I could almost feel her struggle with letting go and giving up control versus her independent personality. Only one person can temper all that - Banner of course. But it took them awhile to finally get there, with lots of 'I dont want to be a mindless slave' to 'Im no good for you' to 'why did you give me away'.....yes, it was very frustrating at one point when neither of the two would admit or accept their feelings for each other. But eventually, they do.

Hot, sexy, sweet and sometimes funny too. A great book!

KcLu's Review - 5 stars
This writing team absolutely blows me away with their ability to seamlessly compose a story together. Often times when you have two people writing a book together, you can feel the two different voices in the work, but that is not the case at all here. Honestly I am at a loss for words. This book is one of those that drew me in from page one, and held me long after I hit the end. To write this review I will tell you I read this book twice. Not because I was struggling to write it, but because it was so good I had a serious book hangover afterwards.

Kate and Banner two people so drawn to each other, but yet they hold parts of themselves back from the other. They both know that they can’t find what each of them wants together. He is a sadist looking for his perfect slave, and she is a newbie looking to test her feet in the submission waters. Banner tries unsuccessfully to set Kate up with one of his friends, but her bratty rebelliousness show her that it will take someone special to bring out that deep submissive side of her. When she asks Banner to train her and show her what she really wants out of this lifestyle that calls to her on a deeper level, he can’t resist.

There is just something so mesmerizing about both Kate and Banner. The harder they fight not to love each other, the more I fell for them. She brings out not only his Dom side, but so much more of his personality. I think what I love best is that he isn’t one of those ubber-Domly asshats that people assume Doms should be. So often people assume if a character is given the title of Master or Dom, they should be bullies and/or assholes with a deep down heart of gold only one woman can barely find. While that can be true, there can be fun and laughter along with the BDSM play. They have done an amazing job of showing all the sides of Banner. I found myself identifying with Kate so much. I am one of those women that it will take a strong man to win my submission. Like me, Kate’s is not given over easily. She has a bratty core and sarcasm that just make it all that more fun to watch her breakdown her walls for Banner. Their journey to HEA is not an easy one, but oh boy is it ever a scorching hot one. I can’t wait to see what more this series will bring.

One last thing this book has one of the best quotes, and I want to share it as a bit of a non-spoiler tease. >
Having the wolf guard Little Red Riding Hood had not only been a bad idea, but it was especially hard on the poor, starving wolf.

How great is that?!?!? I hope y’all love this book as much as I have!

Leigh's Review - 3.25 Stars
I had high hopes for this book, but unfortunately I was left feeling somewhat unfulfilled.

First off, let me say that this story was very easy to read. I was somewhat surprised to find that the author was actually TWO authors, because the writing flowed and the story engaged me. Enough so that I went and searched out whether there would be more books for the other characters mentioned, because I genuinely liked them! And yes, there are two more books coming featuring Banner’s best friends.

The problem was, the characters in this particular story irked me. On their own, each was likeable. Kate was a vanilla girl looking to get into BDSM, on the search for Master Right. And Banner was sweet and sexy and appeared to be the perfect Dom to train Kate. Together, the sex was hot and their chemistry totally clicked.

That’s where my affection for these two ended.

For a man who was looking for a slave and was supposedly an uber-Dom, Banner lacked the commanding presence that I like. During times of family trauma, he would fall apart rather than stay strong. Not that there is anything wrong with showing emotion in the face of tragedy, but on Banner it seemed more like weakness. Kate, on the other hand, came off as the stronger of the two. I could see this woman as a Domme, more than the submissive she desired to be.

There was also no real conflict in the story either. No great force keeping these two apart, except their own stubbornness. And that ticked me off. Each time I read the old “they deserve better than me” routine, it made me want to roll my eyes and smack someone. Preferably Kate or Banner.

I did root for these two to work out their non-issue and finally get together, but I had really hoped this story would pack more of a punch.

Banner’s friends Konstantin and Ambrose were fun, and their interactions and affection with Banner interesting enough to make me want to read their stories as well. I just need to cross my fingers that there is more of an actual conflict in these stories than their own altruistic beliefs that the other deserves something more than they can deliver.

Wow! This book was soooo HOT! I loved everything about this book. Kate and Banner was just explosive together. I loved watching them together. I loved their chemistry and the trust that developed between them. Watching Kate grow and learn that sometimes a label is just a label. Means nothing in the end. A Master/slave relationship is different with every couple. Communication is definitely key to making any relationship work. She definitely grew from beginning to end. Now Banner was just delicious. He made me want to go find a Master. Lord! He was definitely Dominant to the core but he was also a sweetheart and had such a big heart. Kate and Banner were perfect for each other. Banner also has great friends. Can't wait to read more in this series! Loved it all. Definitely recommend this book! 5 stars.

I really liked the light romantic bdsm erotica theme :D loved the main female character and thank god we don't have another dark and mysterious male character, Banner was a good person and having been in his head I don't suffer from that knee jerk reaction I get every time I read a BDSM scene. The idea of this book basically is: how can you be into bdsm relationship and still be independent and a feminist. That was something new and I enjoyed it being explored.

Sparrow Beckett is a writing team of two kinky authors who have come together to bring us the new Masters Unleashed series. Finding Master Right is book one of this endeavor. Kate is intrigued and turned on by the thought of being controlled by a dominant man. When her friend invites her to a D/s matchmaking party, she finds herself unsure and doubting what she wants. Her friends think Banner would be the perfect Dominant to help her discover what kind of Dom she wants, no strings attached. Banner is looking for a slave, not a submissive, so it should be easy for him to show her the ropes and then let her loose to submit to the perfect Dom. Things seem to never go as planned, as both Banner and Kate find it almost impossible to resist the pull between them. If they’re able to find a common ground remains to be seen.

As you might be able to tell from my usual reads, I often gravitate towards the darker side of BDSM. In that sense, Finding Master Right is a bit out of my norm. I wasn’t sure from the blurb that I would be able to enjoy an “introduction to BDSM” themed book. It’s a pleasure to be proven wrong here, because I really did love this one. At first glance, Kate might seem to be that friend that wants to try something new and wild for reasons that are hard to comprehend. She really doesn’t know what or who she wants at the onset, but that’s certainly a realistic position for someone to find themselves in. She’s also a bonafide brat: snarky, funny and really very cute. Banner might want a slave, but he’s approachable and good-natured, up for the challenge that Kate proves to be. What made the book for me was the realistic dialog and the genuine chemistry between the characters. Kate challenges Banner mercilessly and he doesn’t back down, but he accommodates her needs and adjusts his own expectations. The negotiations they go through, the give and take, really is a great look at a successful and healthy start to a D/s relationship. The chemistry between them made the sex scenes smoldering hot. I couldn’t get enough of seeing these two banter back and forth. You could feel Kate’s need, her desire to be topped, bleed through her protective outer core. I wanted to slap Banner for thinking he knew what was best for Kate at one point, but he came around in the end. I know this was written by a writing team, but it was so seamless that I wasn’t able to tell, even with viewpoints switching here and there. I was absolutely hooked from the beginning and it was a truly fun read. In the end, it’s refreshing to see characters that aren’t plugged into the cookie-cutter images that we expect. “Fun” BDSM books that don’t lack substance are also hard to come by. I think Finding Master Right is a perfect intro for someone to the genre, but also very satisfying for the more experienced reader.

Review for Finding Master Right (Masters Unleashed #1) by Sparrow Beckett

Kate and Banner

Finding Master Right is the first book in the Masters Unleashed series by Sparrow Beckett and is the start of what will surely prove to be one of the hottest erotica series of the year. The storyline is fast paced, yet there is exquisite attention to detail that paints a provocative world you’ll want to get lost inside.

Kate is a sexual submissive, but hasn’t found a dominant she clicks with. She’s what most dominants call a brat and because of her lack of experience in BDSM she doesn’t fully grasp what true submission looks like. At a party thrown by her friends she meets Banner — he exudes dominance and power. There is chemistry between the two, but sometimes that’s just not enough.

“Having the wolf guard Little Red Riding Hood had not only been a bad idea, but it was especially hard on the poor, starving wolf.”

Saying that Banner is a dominant doesn’t even touch how much control he desires. He’s a Master and he demands control in all things. When he offers to help Kate find a dominant, he doesn’t anticipate that he will not only be her protector, but her teacher as well. Banner is probably the hottest Master I’ve read in a BDSM book. He is intense, yet charming.

I absolutely loved this book. My only complaint is that it ended! Finding Master Right is an absolute must read for anyone who likes dirty-talking alpha men and erotic BDSM. Five panty-dropping stars.

5 out of 5 Licks

O M F G! Go buy this right now! I would stop there if I thought I could get away with it, but I guess I can give you more. Obviously I loved this book. Once I started nothing else mattered, I ignored everything around me (my poor family-I’ll send Sparrow the therapy bill for my son lol) and I tried to ignore sleep, but my body wouldn’t allow that. I’ve read a lot of BDSM over the years, but this is the first book where the hero (or in this case Master) was looking for a slave. Much like Kate, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. As I continued to read it was obvious that Banner and Kate were hot for each other. This is a classic tale of two people fighting what is so clear to every one around them and that always makes for an interesting story. The sex is explosive and so freaking hot. I felt like the authors did a great job of mixing a lot of sex with a lot of dialogue. I was engrossed in the characters almost immediately. It was fun with just the right amount of drama (and a few tears) to keep me desperate to know what was going to happen next. I am already so engrossed in this series and we are only on book 1. I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves for us next. I know it’s going to be awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more from Sparrow Beckett in the future.

OMG This book is so much better than I would have ever expected! I knew this would be an amazing book, but I didn't think I would love it as much as I do! I thought at one point I was even going to have to write a little hate letter to Sparrow Beckett and ask of them why they did such a terrible thing, but I am one happy reader and hate mail avoided!

There are so many things I love about this book. I love how it's not your typical billionaire romance where the male lead is constantly mentioning all his super expensive toys, and houses all over the place, and personal helicopter. I love how the author kept stressing the point that BDSM is about what the participants make of it and that words and labels are just words and labels. I love the constant discussion of consent and breaking down stereotypes of what it means to be a slave.

Not to mention all the lovable characters of Banner and Kate, and I will tell you this now, Banner can put me over his knee ANY TIME and you will not hear a word, or moan of complaint from me! I instantly fell in love with the innocent Kate and her uniqueness and the hotness of Banner. And he's a great all around type of guy, which just adds to his sexiness.

If you love BDSM erotica with a good plot and amazing characters that you will fall in love with, then you need to read Finding Master Right by Sparrow Beckett. I promise that by the end you will be screaming at your ereader for the second book.

This book was a bit of a conundrum for me. I liked it but some parts of the storyline had me confused.

Kate is very interested in pursuing a BDSM relationship due to her submissive tendencies yet she is bratty and mouthy to Banner most of the book. She also mentions how much she reads erotic or BDSM novels yet she doesn't know some of the basic elements in the lifestyle.
Her friend Janie has been in the lifestyle for years but she seemed to immature and not too knowledge about certain aspects she should know.

Banner is a likable character but I found him to be a bit of a push over when it came to dealing with Kate. Being a Master I would have thought he would have been more heavy handed.

This is the beginning of a new series which has potential. I liked the characters well enough to keep reading this series. I also enjoyed the glimpse we were given of the next novel.

I was given a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review

Finding Master Right is a solid, well-written book with snappy dialogue, intriguing characters, and great relationships. It might have been a five star read, if the main conflict didn't come from the characters self-sabotaging themselves because of what they think they wanted. Dom Banner thinks he wants a 24/7 "slave" submissive who will devote herself to him, while sub Kate wonders if she'll ever be able to connect with anyone at all. Their friends can see that they're perfect for each other and need to get rid of their preconceived notions about their future to have a real relationship with each other, but neither Kate nor Banner recognize it until he's convinced her to date his friend (whose hands-off approach because he knows he's not Kate's dream man drives her crazy). It's a really great book, and I can't wait to read more of the series.
