Beyond lies limitless power, many unique paths, and realms stretching far past the borders of his empire, all waiting for him to explore…if Arden can survive the slaughter.
This is one of those books that I am thoroughly confused on the ratings. I’m guessing it’s similar to what is see in FB groups where people chastise others for accurate reviews and say every book should get 5 stars regardless of how bad it is as “encouragement”.
I only made it a few chapters in and couldn’t stand the writing style. It is very “clunky” and stilted. I can’t really think of any better way to describe it. It just doesn’t have the flow of prose that immerses you in a story, it is prose that makes you wince as you read it.
Regardless, for me, the writing style was not something I could get into so it prevented me from even caring about the “normal human” character who could easily crank out a hundred one arm push up and squats, kick and punch trees so hard he damages them and runs across rooftops like Aladdin and that’s when he is feeling bad and not even empowered.
I rated this three stars because of the effort that was put into producing a book. Producing 600 pages is not a simple thing to do; therefore, it's fairly impressive.
However, effort alone is not substantial enough to make a book good. Good is subjective, but to me it means planning out a story that is actually going somewhere and characters that are interesting and a world that is interesting, but nothing is really interesting in this book. The character is boring and the magic is okay, I guess. I don't really care about that.
The next thing is the character is so special. I mean, this man gets something super rare in the multiverse, like what ? Yes, characters can have unique things, but not like the way this character has special things. It just makes me feel like he's the chosen one or something, and I really don't care for stories like that because there is no tension. You know they're going to win just because they have some unique item. Yes, it's the main character; obviously they're going to win, but I don't want to think that while I'm reading a book. I want to feel tension, but there is no tension.
Also, I would never recommend this to anyone since this is not a story; it's just something with some concepts and some fighting; there's no real main plot or anything; it's just mindless action, and I wish the author would spend more time writing an actual story.
(Contains Spoilers) Unfortunately, I lost interest in the story for good around 75% when he randomly met 2 people with a power system similar to his. It simply bugged me. It felt like an easy handout for the protagonist again, so he's able to advance towards his goal to join some gathering of the strongest generation just so. No good reason at all except he wants to to prove something? ...despite potentially being deadly and having him being hunted/enslaved by the leaders of big established powers. The doom theme was a nice idea, and its execution was interesting, but some aspects of the story felt a bit like lazy writing. Like, some skill names and the fact that the system notes read like somehting a 14-year-old GTA gangster would write. This just destroys my immersion. Does the system talk like that to everybody, or just the protagonist, and why? Also, the protagonist got a bit too many skills thrown at him in a short period of time for what felt like weak reasons and low effort from his side. Sure, there is his backstory and such, but the skills were kinda thrown at him, and it felt like just as a means to brute force the advancement of the story, so he can attend this meeting he heard once about and wants to join at all costs.
I don't know what happened to my 1st review. I know I read this. It's listed already in my reading challenge. I'm pretty sure I thought this was a lot like the old 80's action movies. Not the big name money makers, the over the top cheesy b grade ones that you watched for a good laugh. MC reminds me a little bit of alien, wolverine, and ghost rider. And I was disappointed that I didn't get to meet the dinosaur that is on the cover.
Had to stop at around the 40% mark. I began skipping pages at the t10% mark because every explanation was convoluted and felt force. The MC was a pitiable man who seemed at least put in effort but got nowhere. Then the plot devices started raining down on the MC. Dues ex became the reigning tool the author started using. The system was grow stronger at the expense of others. By the 40% I was detached from the MC, bored and struggling to keep going.
It's a little too chaotic And I think the other sometimes gets a little too caught up in their own story to really explain well what's going on. Protagonist is also a bit of a bell junkie that's necessarily a bad thing I know a lot of folks like it it's not so much for me so that was a point against it as well. There's not really well thought out strategy and plans it's more like running headquarters into all over and over and surviving
As if the cover didn't give it away, we have a Doom inspired romp of LitRPG violence and mayhem. Overall a lot of fun, with the only downside being that the fantasy empire is racist against black people. Could have done without that one. But other than that I enjoyed it and will definitely be picking up the next book.
I read the sample, then bought it…and then read the rest and finished it. The only problem…it ended and book two is not out yet. Lots of action, magic, locations, amazing characters and fascinating universe. This was a blast, loved it. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to future books following these characters and set in this universe.
Excellent MC and premise to the story. Definitely action packed from beginning to end. The flashback scenes I could’ve done without. They weren’t bad but I’m just not a fan of them. That’s just me. Overall great story and some unexpected surprises. Definitely worth the read.
Full of fun banter, cursed chainsaws, character self reflection and sneaky secrets, this book was a fun ride from start to - abrupt - end! (Pun intended) A great read!
I really enjoyed reading this book. Very intriguing story and MC. I look forward to seeing where the author takes future books. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
Nope. DNF. 23% and just couldn’t continue. Won’t give it 1 star but just opting to not rate it. Evil dead vibes minus the funny. MC starts as super controlled and focused in spite of all but then opts for a bunch of decisions that are not focused or controlled.
A new mc with the same cocky swagger and over-the-top rogue charm, with a doom-style twist and just the right amount of whimsy and comedy. Horrible ending though. Dam cliffhangers.
The best litRPG book I have read to date! I cannot wait for the next book to come out next month! I was really gripped by the leveling and the ranking system. The way the author unfolded the characters and story just really resonated with the gamer in me.
I think im going to love this series, it is exciting and riveting in it's storyline and the characters are awesome making you not want to put the book down. Can't wait to continue on in the series to see how they grow.
It just fell short for me of what I was hoping for. Clear inspiration from ghost rider, doom, wolverine and predator but it was lacking in all of those characters with lots of filler and over explaining things you(the reader) dont really care or curious about at that time of explanation.
Some pretty brutal reviews. I enjoyed the read. Very descriptive fight scenes. Some very convenient parts that remind me it is fantasy so there can be such things in the story line. I encourage you to keep writing.
