Taming Dex

Rate this book
Dex Harris, Drummer for America's Hottest Alternative Rock Band 69 Bottles, has never gone looking for love—for good reason. After an ill-fated night after a tour stop in Phoenix, his wicked demons resurface. Is he strong enough to resist falling back into the black hole that was once his life or will he let addiction consume him?

Raine Montgomery has worked for Bold International, Inc since she moved to California at eighteen. She’s fought her way into the executive offices as an assistant to CEO Cami Michaels, but being an assistant isn't what she imagines doing for the rest of her life—so when Cami sends her to assist with the 69 Bottles tour, she jumps at the opportunity.

There’s only one kink in that plan—and his name is Dex Harris.

Raine doesn’t expect to be on the radar of the sexy manwhore drummer, let alone the center of his sights. Shattered from a long-term relationship with a cheater, Raine is determined to make Dex prove himself.

Will Dex toss away his one-night stands in favor of sleeping every night with only one woman—or is Raine simply his latest conquest?

Man-whore drummer Dex takes center stage!
"You're going to shatter me," I say quietly.
He stills.
Our eyes meet.
"You're right," he agrees.
Even though this is the fourth book in the panty-melting, swoon-worthy, smile-till-your-face-hurts 69 Bottles series, this book can be read as a stand alone... HOWEVER, there will be a pile of spoilers for the first three books should you read Taming Dex first.

My Personal Advice: The first book in this series, Claiming Addison, was a five-star read for me, and you'd be missing out on something really special if you skip the first three books. They tell the MMF Romance which unfolds between Talon Carver (The lead singer for 69 Bottles), Kyle Black (The Band's Manager), and Addison Beltrand (69 Bottles' new PR rep). I fell in love with this series early in the first book, and you will too!

OK, back to Raine and Dex who are the stars of this book...

DEX
What the fuck? It's like I've gone from one night stand to love struck puppy. Nope, so not going to happen.
[...]
It's almost as if somewhere in the back of my mind, I know that I cannot simply fuck this girl.
So here's the thing... Dex is an asshole.

He's an unapologetic playboy and I wanted to kick him in the balls more than once while reading this book. I think it speaks to the talent of Zoey Derrick, that my opinion of Dex was completely different once I finished the book. He grew and matured and fell hard. His character progression was a joy to watch.

Also, it helped that Raine kicks him in the balls and I got to live vicariously through that fabulous moment. I liked that.
A lot.
Sorry Dex ;)

Dex struggles with his sobriety, and with the idea of fidelity. Even when that one chick comes along and knocks him on his ass, he still can't stop fucking it up...

RAINE
They say that our eyes are windows into our souls and hers were wide open, ready, wanting and willing to surrender to me. Normally I'd shrug it off, I've seen the look before, but it was almost as if our two souls were sliding into one. Two halves becoming whole for the first time in my life.
Fans of the series have met Raine before, she's the personal assistant of Bold's CEO. With Addison's rising stardom, Raine is sent out on the road to assist with all the PR business surrounding the band.

Much like Addison, Raine became single-mindedly focused on her career as a way to distance herself from a personal tragedy - you'll have to read the book to find out the darkness that haunts Raine, I'm not spoiling anything :)

Raine is wonderfully pragmatic, but even she isn't immune to the sex that practically drips from Dex. She figures she can have one night with the drummer of her dreams, get it out of her system, and do her job... He thinks he can treat Raine like any other disposable woman who has landed in his bed.

They were both so wrong...

Dex cant shake the feeling of 'right' when he thinks about Raine, but he constantly sabotages himself because he feels he's unworthy... and that's why I found it hard to fall in love with Dex. I just wanted to shake some sense in to him!

Raine refuses to make things easy for Dex. She tells him flat out that he'll have to work to earn her affection. YOU GO GIRL!

These are two beautifully flawed characters with a great deal of baggage to work through in order to make a relationship work. Dex buried himself in music and women to escape his demons. Raine poured all of her energy into her career.

We left of on a Happy for Now moment between the couple. There's still a lot more in store for Dex and Raine, and we'll be catching up with them again in Devouring Raine which is due out later this summer.

Taming Dex is sceduled for release on June 9th (6/9 hehehe - I see what you did there Zoey Derrick!) but it is currently available for Pre-Order on Amazon!

It's extremely hard to live up to such an amazing series, and the first three books in the 69 Bottles Series just blew my mind! I LOVED it. I CRAVED it. I couldn't get ENOUGH it. If you read the last book in the series, you are aware of what Dex's ultimate happily every after looks like. I know some will have an issue with it because they already know the ending, BUT let me remind you it's not the destination that counts, but the journey. And Ms. Derrick takes us on one hell of a journey with Dex's story. We dive deeper into his past, discover his weaknesses and his vulnerabilities. The heartbreak that he has been through will tear at your heart. You might think you know Dex, the badass manwhore drummer from 69 Bottles, but let me tell you, you do not know the half of it. Get ready for one hell of a scorching hot, intensely erotic, emotion ridden thrill ride. The deliciously prickly angst gets to me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Another hot, steamy, panty melting slam dunk to the series! 69 BOTTLES Groupie 4 LIFE! ***drops mic***

I’ve been following each sexy release in the 69 Bottles series and have been eagerly anticipating the next two books which focus on drummer, Dex Harris.  Fulfilling a common rocker stereotype, Dex is a self-professed manwhore.  He LOVES women and while he’s never one that would be considered abusive, he is happy to hop into a different one each night without much thought.  His good looks tend to make this easy for him, but they can’t mask his even darker side, the disease of drug addiction.  Dex has fought against his demons for years and is recovering from a particularly bad slip up when Raine Montgomery, assistant to Bold management’s head, is sent to assist 69 Bottles on their tour.  Dex has always made Raine a little weak in the knees, but when he shows interest in her, she’s torn between what her body wants and fear of being hurt.  Raine is no stranger to betrayal and trauma and she won’t play part time girlfriend to anyone, no matter how tempting.  Dex can’t wrap his head around the feelings that Raine stirs up inside him.  Whether he can give up his crazy lifestyle and settle with one woman is what remains to be seen.

I can safely say now that Taming Dex, as opposed to the first three, can be read as a standalone, but I personally think that takes a little fun out of it.  The time periods of the books overlap, so we relive many events we’ve already experienced, just through different sets of eyes.  They’re the backdrop, but not the focus of the book in any way, however, so you wouldn’t be lost in any way if you dove in from this point.

I loved the realness of Dex as a character. The outrageousness of his behavior isn’t sugarcoated.  He can be a true asshole, controlled by his little head waayyy more often than his big one.  I seriously wanted to smack him a few times for his idiocy.  Raine is mature beyond her years and sees through most of the bullshit, but as we all know, the heart will want what it wants.  Dex and Raine have a crazy, intense sexual chemistry and have no problems playing in bed.  It’s after that they each want to run for the hills, but never at the same time.  The push and pull was maddening.  Zoey Derrick had her hands full convincing readers to forgive Dex for his crazy ways and see him as worthy of Raine.  Count me super-impressed that she was able to do that and make it authentic.  The backdrops of NYC and DC were a great addition to this installment for this NY girl.  Oh, and the sex…did I mention the sex?  There’s some brief M/F/M, but this is not a menage book.  The one on one M/F action was seriously hot, with hints that it could get kinkier in the second book for these two (pretty please?).  I’m really rooting for these them and want to see how it all plays out in the next book.  Zoey Derrick does not disappoint here at all. She’s made me a fan of rocker romance!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
You know how some series just never get any better than the first book? They might still be good but that first one will always be the best? Well, that is NOT the case of Zoey Derrick’s 69 Bottles series. Considering it started out with such an awesome beginning I can hardly believe that it just keeps getting better and better…but mind boggling as it is, it does! I admit to being slightly sad at the end of Addison, Talon and Kyle’s trilogy. I knew there was no way I could like any other band member’s story as much as theirs. Zoey absolutely proved me wrong with Taming Dex! This is the best in the series yet (yes, I keep saying that after each one but I swear on my first born that it’s the truth!) and I can’t find the words to express how excited I am for this series to keep growing.
I always liked Dex in the other books. He’s a hot drummer who is a self-admitted manwhore and proud of it. His honesty about who he is was always part of the charm. What you see is what you get. Or is it? This book delves into the real Dex. Not just the Dex with a magnificent dick and knows how to use it. (Although that is part of what I love about him….just being honest…) Never did I think I would fall in love with him, as in actually care about who he was in his heart. I had never thought there was much in there. Once again Zoey set out to prove me wrong. Dex is definitely a slow learner and makes his share of mistakes but he’s much more complex than how he first appeared.
Raine works for the same agency that Addison came from and ends up working on tour with the band. She’s smart, spunky, beautiful and has some painful experiences and secrets that have shaped who she is. In this way, she and Dex are a lot alike. We discover Dex’s history and see how it molded him into the person he has become up to this point. Their “relationship” (if it can even be called that) for most of the book is sketchy at best and a complete crash and burn at the worst.
There isn’t a dull moment in this journey of two hurting people who just might be the soothing balm for the soul of the other. Each will have to give more than they take and be willing to forgive things others may see as unforgivable. Not every woman could set out on the path of taming Dex and keep rolling with the punches that entails. Maybe Raine can? There were many times I was hoping she would give up on his sorry ass and kick him to the curb without any more chances to break her heart. Fortunately, she’s more mature than I am because she gives Dex the chance to reveal parts of his inner spirit that I never would’ve had the luxury of experiencing if I had given up on him.
The second and last part of Raine and Dex’s story comes out later this summer. It’s not a painful cliffhanger, but it does leave you anxious to know more about them and see what happens. I, for one, am thrilled that it couldn’t all be fit into one book. I’m looking forward to getting to know Dex even better than I got to in this one.

5 Stars – Shove Over Talon and Kyle, Dex Is Here!

Taming Dex can be read as a standalone or as part of the series, I highly recommend reading the entire series, but you can dive in to this one right away, if you’d prefer it!

“We all have our secrets, our own demons, our highs and lows, the good and the bad, but in the end, there’s a reason behind it all.”

I love rock star romances and when Zoey Derrick decided to write an erotic rock star romance I knew it would become an addiction for me. Taming Dex is the fourth book in the bestselling 69 Bottles series. This book focuses on Dex Harris the uber talented, over confident and cocky drummer for 69 Bottles. Whether you fell in love with this man from the start or he just pissed you off with his antics, I can guarantee you that Dex is about to run away with your heart.

“Fear creeps into my veins as I realize that this man is inadvertently
stealing my heart and running away with my soul.”

Raine Montgomery has worked for Bold International for years, even before Cami took over the company after her father passed away. She has worked tirelessly with one goal in mind, climbing the corporate ladder and succeeding in a career that she loves. Raine is Cami’s personal assistant and she makes sure to go above and beyond everyday making sure that she shines and Cami loves her for it. Raine is not immune to the rock star effect, in fact the star of all of her wildest, naughty fantasies, is Dex Harris.

Dex Harris, drummer extraordinaire hasn’t met a woman he’s willing to “see” more than once in years. Having never felt that connection to any woman for longer than it takes for him to get himself off. He’s firm believer in lovin’ em and leavin’ them. He has outlets he uses to channel the pain that he feels every single day, and since he’s a recovering addict, banging the hell out of his drums, inking his skin, and enjoying the ladies have become his go to outlets. This plan seems to work most of the time, until that day he crosses paths with Raine.

“The last thing I see is visions of Raine’s beautiful eyes staring straight into me. Crawling her way in and shattering everything I thought I knew or understood about women.”

Instant attraction and red hot lust burn between Raine and Dex from the moment they set eyes on each other. But Dex is not the guy you go to for a relationship and Raine isn’t really a one-night stand kind of girl. When they give into their deepest desires one crazy night, it becomes very clear that the attraction is much stronger than either of them thought. From this point on things get very intense. Dex is trying to figure out why he cannot seem to rid Raine from his thoughts, and why his body craves a woman he’s already had once. Raine is trying to avoid Dex at all costs and convince herself that she’s over the fantasy of having Dex in her heart and bed.

“It is in this moment, this unguarded, drooling like an idiot moment that I realize, in the end; I am going to give in, I am going to talk to him, I am going to give him what he wants. Whether it’s a one-night stand or something more. And I know that I’m the one who is going to get hurt.”

Taming Dex is a bit different from the other books in this series, the relationship that blooms between Dex and Raine is a tedious and delicate balancing act that careens of the tracks more than once. Where Addison, Talon and Kyle’s relationship became serious very quickly, Raine and Dex are locked in a battle of denial and avoidance. What really drew me into this story was the push and pull element that and a very strong emotional undercurrent that simmered throughout the entire book. We get all of the heat that has become a staple in this series but on top of all that we get the feels as well. I adore this authors style of writing and have since the beginning, Taming Dex is a great example of why.

Super sexy, emotional, and extremely well written, Zoey Derrick gives us another fantastic read, that not only makes you tingly in all the best ways, but also makes your heart ache for the characters. Dex and Raine are going to light you up in all the best ways, so be prepared and crank the AC before you even start this book, because it’s about to very hot in here!

“I want to be the girl he kisses before shows. I want to be the one he walks off stage to during their break, I want to be the one he goes to bed with at night. It’s stupid of me to want something that I know is impossible to have.”

Hell yes! I knew I had a thing for the drummer from the start and I am so glad I jumped right into it.
Dex is a man-whore(duh?!) no need to be surprised about that, he had it rough through life, fighting drugs and random fuck-ups UNTIL her.

Raine - she comes on board as an assistant to Addison and has a thing for the drummer boy here.
Sure, she's a knock out herself and our drummer here notices that too.
BUT altough she does engage into a one-night stand with a playful Dex, pulling his bodyguard into a sensual threesome, things don't go very well at the end of that gathering...

and after that, Raine has to deal with her own fucked up shit from her past as well as dealing with her own personal issues and a huge deal breaker - cheating...

Now can Dex pull his head from his ass and man up enough to consider the alternate relation with only one woman...well...

we all deal with shit!
and this book was a winner for me

characters worked for me, they were complex and multi layered and fucked up BUT they worked, they tried to pull out of the gutter and fight the right way through...

so I just need to say this

I am such a big fan of the 69 bottles series. I wasn't sure because in the first three books I only ever saw Dex as the dickhead womanizer. But the stuff you learn about Dex in this book are amazing. His character really unfolds in this 4th installment of the series. Raine is an amazing woman, all she has gone through. Not to mention struggling with everything with Dex and what he puts her through with his back and forth emotions.I fell in love with this book and once I got into it I just couldn't put it down literally. Spent all night reading it that's how much I loved it.

5 stars all the way

I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.

I'm always a sucker for the boys that seem bad but are truly softies underneath. Dex Harris is no exception to this rule. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this story. I felt like I was bugging Zoey constantly about Dex when she started writing his story. I wanted him like yesterday. In the first three 69 Bottles stories, Dex, comes off as a badass manwhore. He's with a different girl every day sometimes more than one. You can never tell who he'll be with. They're all nameless though. Never taking the time to get to know them - just faces.

You can read this story w/o reading the first three stories of this series. I think you'd get a better feel for Dex and his ways by reading them though. We are introduced to Raine during the first series as well as getting a better feel for her during Taming Dex. She is an Executive Assistant to the CEO of Bold International, a celebrity PR firm who represents 69 Bottles. During the story Raine is promoted to a PR Rep for Addison - 69 Bottles' Bold PR Rep who signed on as a musician herself.

Through all of this Raine admits she has a thing for the 69 Bottles Drummer - Dex Harris. The ultimate fantasy - bag a rocker. Or so one would think. Sometimes your fantasy just doesn't play out like you think it would. Disappointment, shame, resentment, confusion, fear...definitely players in this scenario.

What would it take to truly tame Dex one would wonder? Is it even possible? Now, you know in real life it's only possible to tame the bad boy if he's willing to be tamed. Then sometimes you just can't get there.

What a roller coaster. This book consumed me. I received this book and dropped everything to read it. I heart Dex. He's an awesome character and I enjoyed reading about his character and his struggles. There are many in real life that have the same struggles as his character. It shows true strength to bare it all to one person who truly matters.

Spoiler Ahead This was book 44 in the "69 Bottles" series and I love reading this series. Dex Harris is the drummer for the band he is hot and sexy and living the rock star dream sex drugs and rock and roll. This book takes place along side of the first three books. Raine Montgomery works for Bold and she is Cami's P. A. she agrees to go to New York to help Addison now that she is sing on stage and dealing with a crazy stalker. Dex has gotten into a little trouble with drugs and women and while in Phoenix his hook up was paid to take pictures of him. Raine is a fan of the band and of Dex he has stared in many of her fantasies but she knows that he is a manwhore. When Dex first meets Raine he doesn't know what hit him and he can't same to stay away from her although everyone told him too. When Dex and Raine hook up along with his bodyguard things doesn't quite go has planned first Dex gets jealous see her with another man than the bodyguard does something to trigger her and she runs. Raine has some things in her past that trigger her. Dex also had a bad childhood even though he comes from a wealthy family he also has a past with drugs all the guys do. I loved how the guys are their for each other when Kyle took off it was Dex that found him and brought him back. I also liked how Dex was ok with Talon and Kyle being together and that Mouse is gay. I love reading this series. The sex scenes in this book were hot and I liked how Dex was careful with Raine once she told him about being raped. This book well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

OMG.. When I was offered to review Taming Dex I was ecstatic. At the time I had never read one of Zoey Derrick Books so I quickly bought the 69 Bottle series and devoured them in 3 day. I Loved every minute of them and could not wait to read Dex's story and I was NOT disappointed. (You DO NOT have to read the prior books in the 69 Bottles Series order to read Taming Dex) But I recommend it because they are so freaking awesome !!! just saying

Raine Montgomery (Bold International employee) has secretly fantasized about Dex Harris for some time now.
So when he boss ask's her to go assist Addison with the band 69 bottles tour, she is excited and nervous.

Dex Harris the sexy bad boy Drummer for 69 bottles is a complete man whore. He lives the life of a rock star and it works great for him. That was until this sexy dark haired beauty in cowboy boots shows up and sends world into a tail spin...

I loved this story .. We get to learn a lot about the real Dex. His past is heart wrenching. He has demons he fights with daily. He is thrown a huge curve ball when Raine shows up to assist with the band. He is in a constant battle with himself.

Will Raine be able to tame the infamous Dex and his man whoring ways?
Well you will have to read Taming Dex to find out..

I have been dying to get my hands on this book and I was in no way disappointed!

Finally we get a sneak peak of the egotistical, man whore bad boy known as Dex! I was very anxious to finally get a sneak peak into what had made Dex into the man he was and what it would take to bring him down a few notches and let me tell you I loved every second of it!

I loved that this was in no way an insta love story and that both parties had to work hard at the relationship. Although you can predict how the story is going to end, there is no way to predict what exactly will happen between the two characters to get to that end.

As always Zoey gives us a hotter than hell book that will leave you and your kindle on fire and never quite satisfied. I can honestly say that I have never read a hotter, sexier book than those written by Zoey Derrick and I hope they just keep on coming!

I loved this story and am so glad that I was able to get my hands on it! I personally think that Dex should get a series of his very own and this should just be the prequel!

Can't wait for Devouring Raine

I fell in love with 69 Bottles when I was introduced to Kyle, Talon and Addie but I really enjoyed Dex and Raines. Two tragically broken people trying to overcome their pasts find each other and overcome their demons together.

There is so much more to come for these two and I can't wait for it

Bad boy, sex addict Dex did not disappoint. I love how he tells her his story through his ink. And she opens up about herself as well. I feel like I finally got to know Raine. I think this paints a pretty realistic picture of the ups and downs of a relationship and I'm so glad they get their HEA, I think they both deserve it.

10 Amazing Sexual Laughable Stars

I was given this book for my honest review by the author.

“I am drawn to you like a magnet. When I’m not around you, I miss you. When I’m near you, all I do is fuck shit up. I keep making an ass out of myself and one of these times you’re going to kick me to the curb.” Dex to Raine

This is the 4th book in the 69 Bottles Series and needs to be read in order to get the AWE factor

Dex-drummer (69 Bottles), hot and sexy

Raine-pretty, cute and a bit reserved

Can the hunky of hunkiest drummer (Dex) capture the heart of one or will he let the pretty, spunky, reserved (Raine) walk away before things even have begun? Will the man with the golden tongue find the one that completes him the most? Will Dex find his true heart within the Raines or will let the fear evoke him and walk away? This is their true journey.

Raine is the spunky woman that comes from a hard past. She takes life has it comes and never expects and easy peasy day. Taming Dex is one of those stories that will have you in a love/hate relationship with him and you will be so happy for it. Dex Harris is a man-whore and everyone knows it and he is proud of it. He never gets their name, he just uses them for his pleasure and theirs. After all he is Dex Harris, drummer for 69 Bottles and everyone loves this alternate rock band. After the lead singer, most fall in love with the drummer and why not he is gorgeous, sexy and very lickable.
Raine Montgomery has had her share of fantasies staring Dex and now she will be traveling with the band to help Addison as her assistant. Raine works for Bold International since she was 18 and has moved to being Cami's assistant. When Cami saw that Addison was going to need some help, she sent Raine. Now Raine is close to her fantasy, Dex and she can't stay away. So she takes one night with him hoping it will get this craving she has for him out of her system so she can do her job. Dex is having a hard to controlling his feelings towards her because he has never felt this way before. Will she be able to stop with one night? Can Dex stop his man-whore ways to let her see the real man inside?
If you are looking for a fantastic series that will forever be one of your favorites then 69 Bottles is that series. The series is Claiming Addison, Craving Talon, Redeeming Kyle and Taming Dex is the 4th book. You could read Taming Dex as a standalone but why, you would miss a great trilogy in the beginning stories. You will not want to miss a thing.
Zoey Derrick is one of those authors that is always a must for me, she has some fantastic stories and lovable characters and you will want to devour every story.
Please read this warning it is most definitely true:

Let me just say that I love dirty little rock stars and Dex Harris is definitely a dirty rock star!

Zoey Derrick broke the mold when she wrote Taming Dex, I could not put it down I read it straight through from start to finish it was absolutely captivating. Dex is such a complex character and you clearly see that he has had some traumatic events that have led him to act in the manner he does throughout the book. Dex's character really begins to take shape and unfold in this book and we learn so much about him and his life that is incredibly heartbreaking. He has this animal magnetism that seems to attract women to him which is no exception when it comes to Raine. Raine is such a strong independent woman and despite everything that she has been through and all the trials and tribulations that she goes through during this book she still stays strong and manages to hold her head high.

This book is full of emotion and it is a definite roller coaster ride with lots of ups and downs but it is so worth every single one! Raine and Dex have amazing chemistry and Zoey does an amazing job of telling their story and taking us on this incredible journey. I can't wait to see what the next book in their story brings!

To say I was excited when I heard Dex was getting a book is an understament. I was so thrilled cause I knew there was more to him than just the glimpses we saw in the other books. This book will take you over some events that happen in book 3 but you get more of Dex's story, find how Raine conquered the manwhore. These two were great, I loved the build up along with all the fighting between them. I loved Raine, cause as much as she had a crush on Dex and the minor slip up the first night, she truly cared for him. You could see it when they talked and yes he made her mad on many occasions but that is truly Dex. He was able to show his sensitive side along with sharing his life with her. I really liked this book cause you get to see a side of Dex that you weren't sure was even there. Raine bought out so much in him and in turn she was his sunshine that he needed in his life. Oh and if you want to know, there is some HOT sex in this book,. it may not be as hot as Talon, Kyle and Addison but its still up there. I would definitely tell everyone to read this book!

I'm still loving this series, I did find Dex & Raine annoying in the whole will they won't they get together.. We all know that Dex is the manwhore but Raine was no innocent, jumping into bed with two men on her first night!

I liked the way this book was set out, telling their story in the same timeline as the last book. Looking forward to the next book, now that Dex & Raine are finally in agreement.. Let the fireworks begin!

Wow this story was so much more than I expected. I knew Dex had struggles but I’m speechless. My heart aches for him what he’s been through and for Raine. I can’t even imagine. I will admit I’ve never been a fan of BDSM before. But I’m intrigued. I want to know all there story. Can’t wait to read the next book.

Taming Dex is another sexy rock star read from Ms. Derrick- what is it about the broken bad boys that pulls me in every time? Although a bit of Dex and Raine's story is hinted at in the previous books, this story begins to detail their journey with a depth we were not privy to in the books focused on Addison, Kyle and Talon.

Dex comes across as the stereotypical rock star living a life of sex, drugs and rock and roll on the surface. Hints of the layers of his personality were revealed in the first 3 books of the series, but Taming Dex peels those layers back to reveal more of the damaged man beneath the surface. This is a man who is a recovering addict struggling to ignore the constant temptation on a daily basis in a world of constant excess, who uses sex as a distraction, and who inks himself as a reminder of those daily battles won and lost letting the pain ground him. His bandmates and their security crew are his family and they are the only ones who get to see the caring side of Dex that is hidden from the rest of the world.

Raine has been on her own for the last 10 years of her life after suffering a traumatic event and only her boss Cami knows the details of it. Her last few boyfriends have been real pieces of work, especially Michael who she recently dumped after 6 years when she found him in her bed with another woman. Now she is perfectly happy to be a solo act for a bit, so when Cami offers her a chance at advancement as Addison's assistant and trainee, she jumps at it. She has secretly fantasized about Dex for years after meeting him in the office once or twice, but he has never noticed her - who knows, maybe she can wow him too while she is accompanying Addison and make the fantasy a reality, right?

Dex catches a glimpse of Raine as she is introducing herself to Beck and finding herself unexpectedly attracted to the hulking security guard. But neither Dex or Raine is prepared for the intense physical reaction they have when they shake hands for the first time. An alcohol fueled decision to take a leap on Raine's part leads to part of that fantasy coming to life, but reality seeps in all too soon throwing both of them off their game. And so the emotional tug of war begins.

Dex and Raine are two broken souls with zero relationship experience between them and no frame of reference to operate within to try to establish one. Yet they could be exactly what the other has been searching for without even knowing it if they can just get their heads and hearts on the same page and start communicating. Every time Dex's heart starts to take over, his head gets out of control sending him running scared and inevitably he makes a stupid choice. Raine gets her feelings hurt causing her to make decisions that make her feel bad about herself, and it turns into a vicious cycle until Dex finally mans up and decides to try the one - woman relationship route for a change. Lord knows he hasn't found a lot to hold his interest with the usual groupie parade since Raine came into his world, but he has a lot of work to do to convince her to give him another chance.

As they share their secrets with each other, their connection solidifies and the layers are peeled back to reveal the source of the deeply embedded hurts they each carry. Oh and the sex- off the charts HOT!! But Dex still worries that he will inevitably screw it all up like everything else in his life.

“When I fucking look at you, nothing matters. Nothing else exists but you. I froze because I realized that something as precious and beautiful as you are deserves far better than I can give you. I’m a manwhore, I’ve been a manwhore and I will always be a manwhore and you deserve much better than that.”

This book ends in a good spot with more to come in Surviving Raine (tentative release July 2015). There are definitely some unresolved issues to be explored between them and in her life and I can't wait! As I mentioned above, parts of this book do overlap events in the previous books in the series, but you do not need to read the first 3 books to enjoy Dex and Raine's story so I highly recommend getting your 1 - click on for this story!

Note: issues addressed in the story may be triggers for some readers

Warning: TAMING DEX may trigger a desire to maim the MC's even while their stories of rape and heavy drug use could trigger other serious reactions. Consider yourself warned.

Every day, 69 Bottles drummer Dex Harris struggles with his sobriety. After a vengeful specter from his past drugs him, his demons are back in full force. His bodyguard Beck is always there for him, either stopping him from rolling a $20 or making sure the women he goes through as an outlet to his addiction don't become bunny boilers. And so it goes, through every city, every temptation, every night.

When Raine Montgomery joins the tour as PR Manager Addison's assistant, both men are struck dumb by her sex goddess looks and icy bedroom eyes, but it's Dex that Raine wants, Dex who she's had a crush on since he visited their offices so long ago. Dex has always been totally fine with sharing women with Beck, so why does he want to throat punch the other man for touching Raine? But Dex knows he's no good for the beautiful PR assistant, and no matter how much his soul craves her, he will never be the faithful, GOOD man she deserves. Time and time again, he fucks with her head, and time and time again, she lets him, mentally steeling herself from his special brand of pain yet unable to resist him when push comes to shove.

TAMING DEX is the 4th book in the 69 Bottles series but can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed the first three books and was anxiously awaiting bad boy Dex's story. Dex copes with his years of sobriety by screwing anything that walks, so as far as a book MC goes, he's NOT a good guy. He treats women like objects, he's cocky and selfish and self-absorbed and isn't the kind of guy who finds things like knowing the name of the woman on her knees in front of him important. I didn't find him lovable even in a "love to hate him" kind of way; he was just such a dick.

At first, Raine was game for anything, evidenced by the yummy ménage between her, Dex and Beck. I was surprised the direction the book took after that encounter though. It became more emotional as Dex constantly fought himself and his demons while unsuccessfully trying to get Raine out of his head. Raine, for all of her "I'm gonna be strong" moments, was a total pushover. She couldn't stay away from Dex despite his card-carrying assholian membership. I had a hard time liking or respecting her character, even though I know a dozen or more women exactly like her, pining after men who are no good for them, vowing to stay strong next time yet bending after a kind word or sexy look. It makes me insane with anger!! And this just happened again and again, becoming thisclose to being too much.

So you're probably wondering why I gave this such a high rating. Well, it's not the erotic left turn the story took toward the end, nor is it the fact that the MC's started to redeem themselves once finding common ground. It's honestly because of the fury I felt while reading this train wreck. Any story that can make me want to kung fu chop both MC's yet unable to look away in fear of missing their next stupid move is a book that deserves a good rating, IMO. Any book that evokes its own mental musical soundtrack in my head as I read through the jackassary is worth giving props to.

Bottom Line: Even though this can be read as a stand alone, I recommend reading the series from the beginning to get the full effect of this wild band's life. I hate Dex and Raine but you better believe I'll devour the second book in their story, Devouring Raine, ASAP. - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...?

We may have left Addison, Talon and Kyle to their own devises (or vices- depending on how you look at it) and if you haven’t read the previous three books in this series then I have to say you buy them now because you are seriously missing out!!
But Ms Derrick isn’t finished with the 69Bottles yet and in this book it is Dex’s turn to get the ubiquitous Ms Derrick treatment – Oh isn’t he a lucky boy!!!
Dex is the drummer and I do like a man that can handle the sticks – he’s got good hands and he puts them to excellent use- on and off the stage.
He isn’t shy about his exploits either but I have to say I loved him!! He was such a strong character and the author gave him to us lock stock and smoking guns, because from the get-go we get to see the man beneath the image, the man that he tries to hide, not only his past but the Dex that really is worth loving, he has such a big heart that I was astonished at the way he felt about the world around him, his place in it.
I think I felt as if he really didn’t get the fact that who he was on the inside was what made him a beautiful person, yes, he may be an ass at times (a lot of the time, I get it) but he was loveable!
Things get interesting when Raine joins the tour, to work with the band. I have to say that I liked her right off the bat, she was so feisty that she sparkled on the page, she had been through some crap in her time but the knocks that she had taken had made her who she was and she was a no nonsense girl. She might just need that fight to tame the wild man of the band!
The two of them really were quite something to read, they we both a little uncertain when it came to how they could or would go about doing whatever it was they were doing but I have to say, I think I would call it putting the first step on the ladder to a relationship, although even that might be, being generous at times because they certainly didn’t make it easy for themselves.
The both had their own demons and issues to overcome but they could help each other – they just had to be willing to open the door and take the first step.
Dex was a handful ( boy, was he!) and Raine certainly had bitten off probably more than she realised and to be honest I was sure that she was ready to kick his ass on more than one occasion, I know I would have.
But I have to give the girl credit, she hangs on in there, lucky to see the whole man, not the shadow but the delight, the reality that is the Dex that lurks beneath the surface, the man that she really wants for her own but the one that she will take in whatever package it comes wrapped in, because she knows he is worth not only her effort but his.
Together they have the chance of the real deal, a life full of promise and a love that will be epic, but we don’t get it all in this book, there is another to come later this summer and I am delighted about that because Dex deserves a little more time to shine.

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian I Dig Good Books.

This is book 4 in the 69 Bottles series. I would say its not necessary to have read Addison, Talon and Kyle's stories, books 1 to 3, but if you read this BEFORE them, you will get spoilers. There is some overlap from Redeeming Kyle.

Dex is the drummer from 69 Bottles. He is fighting his past drug addiction every step of the way, but when he gets set up, its all he can do not to give in. Raine is sent to help Addison with 69 Bottles and their US tour. Having lusted after Dex for some time, she knows she is way under his radar. But Dex is smitten, from the start. However, he struggles to give up his man-whore ways and getting Raine to trust him, will mean he has to open up. And thats something he hasn't done before.

I loved the first three 69 Bottles books, but this one didn't quite hit the spot for me. I can't put my finger on why though and thats annoying. I hate not being able to pinpoint why a book doesn't work for me. But not work isn't quite right, its a bloody good book, really it is, I just didn't enjoy it as much.

Dex and Raine have chemisty, that much is clear and obvious, its the emotional connection the Raine craves, and Dex is struggling with. Once they open up to each other, about their past, their hurt and pain, its much easier going for the pair. It makes for difficult reading, emotinally difficult, when these two finially open up to each other, I cried, I really did.

Its written again, in the first person, present tense, from both Dex and Raine's POV. While in the first three books, that didn't bother me, here, I noticed it. A lot. WHY?? No idea. Each change is clearly headed and usually occurs from chapter to chapters, some places not, but still all clearly marked when the change occurs.

I would like to say one thing though. There is a scene, a M/F/M scene, I'm not saying who takes part cos that will be a little spoiler-ish, maybe this comment is, I don't know BUT that scene, didn't feel right to me. It all felt wrong and forced and I didn't like it. Not at all. I UNDERSTAND why it was needed, I do, I just didn't like it. And thats not cos its a threeway, not at all, as I said I LOVED the first three books. I dunno, its that not being able to pinpoint thing again. Stressful, to me anyway!

OH! Two things.

I thought this was a complete story, a single book that is a addition to the 69 Bottles series. Turns out, its not. There is another book for Dex and Raine to come. So, be warned.

Some difficult subjects, rape, drug abuse and addiction, and some readers may be sensitive to those subjects.

4 stars

4 stars for another great edition in the lives of 69 bottles with this just being the first part of Taming Dex. We have known and loved Dex Harris from the inception of the series so when a book for him was announced I was so excited to read all about his past, present and future endeavors and I truly believe you won't be disappointed.
Dex is a man that loves things in excess - music, women, alcohol and in the not so distant past.... drugs. Dex has never tried to hide the fact that he struggles with his sobriety but you never really understand him until now. When we first met Dex he was the life of the party drummer that was good for one night of fun until he moved on to the next warm body and while he is still very much that guy you get an understanding as to what makes him tick and why women especially are disposable. The man is larger than life in more ways than one, happily touring with the band when Addison's new assistant shows up and brings Dex to his knees.
Raine Montgomery has worked for Bold for years first for Bobby and when he passed away she started assisting his daughter Cami. Raine is the go to person at Bold for any and all goings on in the news or social media because she excels at her job. Cami realizes that Raine was due an opportunity to advance in the company and decides she should assist and learn from Addison while they are in New York. While Raine is excited for the chance of a lifetime she is also beyond nervous to not only work with Addison who just happens to be one of the best PR reps in the business but the members of 69 Bottles too. Dex Harris is the star of all of Raine's fantasies and she can't believe she will be practically working with him in a few days time. Once Raine arrives in New York and quickly settles in with Addison and work she finds herself with a lot of unanticipated free time. Raine heads to the hotel bar where she runs into Dex in a social setting, not the executive office of Bold and realizes those fantasies can come to fruition if she chooses to do so. What's a girl to do when your boss makes it clear she could care less as long as the job gets done?
Raine and Dex together are absolutely combustible and you are in for one heck of a ride. Raine is beautiful, confident and scarred by her past just as much as Dex is, but she copes very differently. Dex while freely admitting to being broken is actually considering salvation instead of the life of damnation that he has shackled himself with. I for one am anxiously awaiting part two.

Title: TAMING DEX
Series: 69 Bottles #4
Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance, Erotic, LGTB, M/M/F, M/F/M, M/F, F/M, M/M
Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content
Received from: Zoey Derrick (in exchange for an honest review)
Grammar/editing: ungraded – book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused

This is the fourth book in the 69 Bottles series. They do need to be read in order. Absolutely do not attempt to read this book without reading CLAIMING ADDISON, CRAVING TALON, and REDEEMING KYLE first! Okay, technically, this one stand alone, but you really don’t want to miss out on the threesome that is Addison, Talon, and Kyle.

Raine has a fan-crush on Dex. Sure Talon Carver is the leadman for the band and most girls want the singer, but not Raine. She wants the bad-boy, man-whore, sex-god, drummer, Dex Harris. She’s not there as a groupie, and she’s sure he’d never notice her anyway. He hasn’t noticed her at the offices. She’ll do her job and pine from afar. That’s the plan.

Let’s face it, Dex is a horn-dog to the nth degree! He is a self-admitted ass-hole. He has been since book one when Addison got on the bus. His life has been the cliché – sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll. There is a new groupie in every city, and he sees no reason for the party to end. That is until he falls for Raine. He doesn’t know how to do the relationship thing, but for her, he’d allow Cupid to move in. Unfortunately, because he’s never tried to woo a girl beyond a single night, he’s a screw-up on stand-by at all times. He makes every mistake in the book and I think he may have even invented a few new ones!

I loved that Raine tried to be pragmatic about the situation – I’ll get my one night with the rock star/crush and then be able to focus on the job. I love that she never made it easy for Dex. I even love that this is not the end of their story (though I did scream for a few minutes because, like Veruca Salt (Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory), “I want it now!”)

One thought on the steam factor for this story – like the rest of this series, this is a read it one-handed kind of book. Have the husband/boyfriend/boy toy or BOB on stand-by, because they are going to love this book, too, even without reading it!

I haven’t missed a single one of Zoey Derrick’s books so far and it is my sincere recommendation that you don’t miss them either. One-click; click it now!

Taming Dex is the fourth book in the amazing “69 Bottle Series”. Once again, Zoey Derrick gives us another sizzling hot, dirty, sexy story that she is a master at writing.

Meet Dex, the drummer in the band. He is hot, sexy and every rocker girls fantasy. Never at a loss for a one night stand the girls literally throw themselves at him. Every night after a concert he picks one like a crumb falling off a plate, no name necessary, just takes what he wants from them and walks out the door. A relationship, he doesn’t even understand the meaning of the word. But, this is the public image Dex, not the man that you will fall in love with when you read this book.

Dex is a recovering drug addict. He has been clean for several years but the seduction of using again is around every corner, as with any drug addict. Dex also has been broken by events that happened when he was a child.

Meet Raine, beautiful, smart, hard working, but also damaged by a terrible incident that happened to her. She works for the company that manages and does the PR for the band. Unexpectedly she is asked by her boss to help with a crisis that the band has and she finds herself traveling to meet up with them.

Fireworks, lust, desire, those are a few words that describe the first meeting between Dex and Raine!! Raine had always fantasized about the sexy drummer and Dex could only think of one thing he wanted to do with her after they met. Was it love at first sight, absolutely not!

Their relationship was heart wrenching so much of the time. Raine knew he was a manwhore and she should just let him go, but she just couldn’t. He was becoming everything to her, even though he was breaking her heart in tiny pieces, she fought for him. He knew he wanted her, but he also knew he didn’t deserve someone as beautiful and sweet and he knew he would screw up the relationship no matter how he tried. Hookups he could do; feelings and emotions, this he had never done.

The sex scenes were crazy hot, laced with some pain/pleasure that they both liked. I loved the dirty talk!! Can Raine really tame Dex? You will just have to read this book to see how far this relationship goes. I already can’t wait to read Book Five of the “69 Bottle Series” to see learn more about their story. I loved this book.

Rosie’s Book Heaven was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely love the 69 Bottles series by Zoey Derrick. Taming Dex is the 4th book in the series and focuses on Dex the hot as hell drummer of 69 Bottles. This book can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the first three books in this series as well.

Raine Montgomery, an employee for Bold International has always had a slight crush on Dex Harris the drummer for the band 69 Bottles. She is very excited and a little nervous when she finds out she is being sent to go on tour with the band as an assistant to Addison. She doesn't want to let anyone get close because of the horrible things she had to endure in a past relationship but she loves spending time with Dex. Will she be able to overcome those demons and let Dex into her life or will his persistence send her packing?

“Fear creeps into my veins as I realize that this man is inadvertently stealing my heart and running away with my soul.”

“I want to be the girl he kisses before shows. I want to be the one he walks off stage to during their break, I want to be the one he goes to bed with at night. It’s stupid of me to want something that I know is impossible to have.”

Dex Harris loves living the rockstar life. He loves being with different woman every night and never sees himself settling down until Raine enters his life. He is confused by his feelings for her because he has never seen himself wanting to settle down with one woman. He is instantly attracted to Raine and is willing to do whatever it takes to convince her to spend time with him. Will Dex be able to overcome his troubling issues that continue to keep him from opening up to Raine? Will he be able to convince Raine to open up to him and take a chance on him?

“The last thing I see is visions of Raine’s beautiful eyes staring straight into me. Crawling her way in and shattering everything I thought I knew or understood about women.”

I loved that Taming Dex is not a insta love story. Raine and Dex had to go through many ups and downs to get to a happy place in their relationship. I loved being able to catch up with the rest of the band members. I am so excited to read Devouring Raine and see where their story goes!!

Love and lust can they be the same thing? Can they tame the wildest of men? can they sense it happening? Okay yes to all of hose even if the man in question is not even willing to understand it himself. When Dex see the Ice blue eye of Raine he knows he is done for, even before he knew who she was. He tries to restrain himself. When he sees er again and is admiring her with out really knowing who she is, e craves to be with her as a nameless person. His usual MO. But when she turns around and he sees that the most beautiful woman he has ever seen is Raine he knows deep down that she will be the one that undoes him. Does he fight it? He sure gives it the college try!
Raine is in her dream job right now, the best and worst part of her job...DEX. He is her fantasy, but knowing that he is the wild man that he is she is scared that he will ruin her. Does that stop her from being with him? NO. Does he follow through with her fears? Yes.
See this story is more than just a romance it is about two souls connecting so well that the connection is frightening to them. So, yes, Dex fights being with the one woman that mean mores to him than just a one night. He fights breaking her heart but fails time and time again until what he fears come to pass, then instead of fight her to leave him, he fight to keep her.
I loved reading and learning more about Dex he is the best of the band keeping
band together, being the true friend that all crave. Most of the time he is their comic relief but more than that he is the big brother the all love. Reading him pour his heart out and learning about his past was just icing on the hotness that is Dex making you love him even more than you did in the first books. Yes, I won't deny that I loved the crazy skirt chasing, foul mouthed drummer that has captured my heart even more in this book. I want more of Dex ans Raine and I can't wait to see their story continue on this beautiful and rocky tour that they find themselves in.
