A Wrong Turn Right

Rate this book
A strange light in the woods leads him somewhere no GPS could ever find.

When Preston’s car breaks down and his phone fails, he follows a flicker of light into the trees—and walks straight into another century. On the other a knife-wielding, sharp-tongued beauty who’s certain he’s nothing but trouble.
Wende doesn’t trust strangers, especially not men with odd clothes and impossible stories. But when she sees Preston’s confusion—and his desperation—she reluctantly offers him shelter.

As Preston becomes entangled in Wende’s nomadic world, the life he left behind begins to feel more like a dream than a destination. Every shared look, every quiet moment, draws them closer.

But time doesn’t forget. And the future he once knew may come calling again.

A Wrong Turn Right is a heartfelt time travel romance about second chances, unexpected journeys, and finding home in the most unlikely place.

When reading Karen Lopez's latest work, you might be tempted -- as I now confess I was -- to say, "Oh, I know this plot!" One might skip from 'Billy Pilgrim becoming unstuck in Time' (Kurt Vonnegut) to the time-skimming locales in the "Outlander" series, or even, at one point (NOT near the end of this story!) to the 9th season of the TV series "Dallas" where it was all just Bobby Ewing's dream...
Well, guess again!

Yes, this latest offering will keep you guessing and draw you in. The setting and character development are just what one has come to expect from Lopez. Preston McClendon, a doctor in residence exited from his engagement party. "He was a thoroughly modern physician, fluent in Latin and Greek, the basis of medical language. He was grateful for the technology that made modern medicine a marvel. But when he dreamed of home, of a future, of children—he felt...unsettled"

Preston exits, and en route, he takes a turn... that takes him and the reader into the wilderness. That turn takes Preston away from all that is familiar, and yet lands him in company that he comes to embrace... even when an actual embrace might be seen as an affront that could have him banished! Will Preston find his way? What will become of those who are looking after him? Read on, as "Time Will Tell" in this novel that spans space and time, and hearts and family, and two dogs and a donkey!!

It's not a spoiler to share that as a result of his 'turn', Preston treads Sacred Ground. In gratitude (and grace), he -- with the love of his life -- leads a life in which he shares his medical gifts, "To Love and Serve..."

In the end, this story is not a riff on any other famous theme. Jump into Preston's car and let his journey be yours!

When Preston’s car breaks down and he notices a light in the woods nearby, he suddenly is transported into a world of the past and into the clutches of a clan that could both protect him from the elements and become the source of danger or even his death.
His infatuation with Wende, a young and beautiful clan member who becomes his protector, gives him the opportunity to choose a more rewarding future than that in his previous world. The question he needs to answer is should he choose this new path or try to return to his past life.
This story is Hallmark movie worthy, and it evolves into a delightfully refreshing ending that will warm your heart. The story and characters are expertly crafted and their belief in a higher power to guide them through life’s challenges adds context to the story and sends a rich message of hope and trust.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the novel and I know you will also. It makes a great weekend read.

A delightful novella from a reliable, good author, A Wrong Turn Right leads to another world for Dr Preston McClendon, one in which he doesn’t belong and must quickly adapt to if he is to survive. Has he time-travelled? What’s happened to him? Accepting his fate becomes a struggle to survive. Then, when he’s partially resolved that problem, the unexpected happens again. This really is a lovely tale, and an easy read. I did it in one session on a train journey.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Wrong Turn. The author does a great job developing her characters and immerses the reader in each scene. The story has a time travel component, but it focuses on love and lost love. There are many twists in the action, and Karen Lopez does a great job leading the reader along the narrow path.

I highly recommend reading this novel.

What a fun read!! I enjoyed this story so much. It felt like I was binge-watching a tv show… one more chapter… maybe one more, then another. I didn’t want to put it down!
