The best man ghosted me six years ago after kissing me, and now I have to plan every wedding event under the sun with him.
Nate Stiles is the definition of serious. Furrowed brow? Check. Rain cloud personality? Double check.
I shouldn’t be thinking about the fact that our kiss was the best one of my life right now. I should be planning the bachelorette party of the millennium.
I shouldn’t be wondering when Nate became such a good dancer after we got roped into salsa lessons with the happy couple. I should be mentally ticking off boxes on my bridal checklists.
I shouldn’t be wondering what it would be like if I didn’t hate Nate Stiles. I should be holding strong against a man who doesn’t believe in love.
My name is Essie Lovelock. I am a reformed love obsessed fairytale fanatic and I’m determined to be the best maid of honor my best friend could ever have.
And I am absolutely not going to fall for the best man. standalone grumpy/sunshine, second chance romance.
Helena Hunting is the author of The USA Today and NYT bestselling PUCKED Series. She lives on the outskirts of Toronto with her incredibly tolerant family and two moderately intolerant cats. She writes everything from romantic sports comedy to new adult angst.
“God, you get under my skin.” “Good. That’s been my goal from the start.” “Mission accomplished.”
This book had everything that I was expecting! Nate & Essie's chemistry gave me butterflies and I was rooting for them since the beginning! The tension and banter between them was so sizzling and I loved how their awkward run-ins turned into heated encounters. Essie was soft, kind and sensible and Nate was thoughtful and reliable, in addition with being just the right amount of broody. Even all the side characters were so fun and supportive. And seeing Tristan & Rix's wedding was so heartwarming! Overall, this was a feel good romance and the epilogue left me with a big smile. Also, I can't wait for Mildred & Connor's book because their crumbs in this one have me on a chokehold!
Nate Stiles works for one of the top sports equipment companies in Canada. He loves his job, and thrives under pressure. When he’s asked to be his big brother Tristan’s best man he takes his role seriously. His brother is his best friend, and he won’t let him down. The only complication is the maid of honor. He has a history with Essie that can’t get in the way. They are planning everything together as a team, and both care so much about Rix and his brother. He hates that she always manages to get under his skin, and he often behaves like a jerk. He’s jaded, doesn’t trust easily, but the more time they spend together, the more intrigued he becomes. He should keep his distance, but he can’t help being drawn to her. As the tension between them becomes overwhelming, will real feelings surface that can’t be denied?
Essie Lovelock is known for her sunshine positive attitude and still believes love conquers all even though she tends to be attracted to the wrong men. She hasn’t found her Prince Charming yet, but weddings and party planning still bring her joy. She’s thrilled to be in charge of her best friend’s special day, and has made it her mission to make the wedding a success. The only issue is the elusive best man that frustrates her endlessly with his storm cloud behavior. Nate is broody, guarded, serious, intelligent and beautiful. He forever seems irritated, and is the most competitive man she’s ever known. Six years ago they shared an unforgettable kiss, and then he ghosted her with no explanation or apology. She needs to put the past in the past, and work with him, but soon their attraction makes her feel on edge when he’s near. He’s the opposite of boyfriend material, but is somehow still her kryptonite. He’s should be off limits because they don’t want the same things. He’s anti-relationship, and she’s always been in love with love. Will she end up with another broken heart, or will she finally get her own fairy tale?
I Could Be Yours by Helena Hunting is an opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, sports romance full of sizzling chemistry, emotion, swoon and fabulous banter. It’s a beautiful story about friendship, found family and second chances. I really adored this couple, and enjoyed getting more of the other couples we know and love. I can’t wait for more books from this world! <333
I don’t understand the logic, or lack of it, but how satisfying is it that the man who ghosted me all those years ago can’t keep his hands off me now?
4.25 stars
Helena is such a queen when it comes to romance of any kind. We have a second-chance romance with an island getaway/wedding with the best man and the maid of honour. Throw in some grumpy-sunshine, “Fuck it”, a competitive streak both in public and in the bedroom, SHE’S pierced, dirty talk, trauma, and a variation of one-room, and you’ve got the makings of a great book. To top it all off? The banter! I loved their banter.
“Take your broody asshole down a notch, Nathan. Your black cloud is dimming my shine.”
I still love all the cameos, and you really need to read the Toronto Terror series to get anything from this book because you meet all the characters in there, including the bride and groom, Bea and Tristan! What a great little ending for them!
I have no faith in love. No faith that it can endure, because in my experience, it doesn’t.
The spice was spicing. The emotions were emoting. The beach was vibing. I am pumped for the next books in this series (because yes, please read the Terror series first, and Cammie’s book) and the lead-ups they got in this one!
I snake one arm around her waist, holding her close, though I worry she’ll come to her senses and slap me across the face or bite me. Based on the way my dick kicks at the possibility, I’m not opposed to the latter.
Thank you to Helena and Sarah for this ARC!
All this time, she’s been right in front of me, and I finally see her.
Helena Hunting is always a guarantee if you are looking for spice, banter, found family and hot hockey players. This new release, I Could Be Yours, doesn’t disappoint.
Essie and Nate have known each other since hgh school and shared a kiss before leaving for university, but then Nate ghosted Essie. Now, six years later, they are organizing the wedding for Nate’s brother and Essie’s best friend, and they have to manage to deal with one another.
This story is a story on how to move forward past trauma and avoid it from defining your entire future. To take the rein of your life and jump even though you are scared. More than that, the chemistry and tension between Nate and Essie is incredible and I love a good second chance story.
I love how Helena has the magic touch to intertwine all her books and the familiar ties they have created.
Thank you to The Author Agency for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
Trix and Tristan are getting married and we’re invited through the eyes of Beatrix’s best friend, Essie and Tristan’s brother Nate.
Nate ghosted Essie six years ago after they shared a kiss. Ever since there has been a strange vibe between them. He’s grumpy and she’s a ray of sunshine. Now they’re thrown back together for a beautiful wedding and love is all around! Nate’s struggling to hold on to his grumpy hat and Essie is just so loveable she’s hard to resist.
This is kind of an extension of the Toronto Terror (ice hockey) series although Nate is a science nerd and Essie is a makeup artist rather than a hockey romance.
Essie is helping Trix with the wedding/hen party and Nate is doing the same for the stag party. They are in competition with each other but Nate has met his match because Essie is Queen at organising.
Can Nate work through his past and realise the one that got away is more than a kiss?
This book was everything. It was funny, sweet and swoony with some hotness to warm the sheets. Nate really proved himself worthy of Essie.
We all remember those two: Essie is Rix's bestie and Nate is Tristan's brother. So for Rix and Tristan's upcoming wedding those two will have to be together for all the planning and all the parties and whatnots... And they can't stand each other. They've also kinda been in love with each other for six years, but of course we can't admit that...yet.
LET THE FUN TIMS BEGIN!
══════════════════
Adorable!
That was so cute and funny and a bit frustrating. Because - if people would just talk to each other. Ugh. They could've lived happily ever after together for years already! But of course they weren't ready for their forever love. Especially Nate. But the reader has a lot of fun watching them fight and argue their way towards that wedding. And with each day they hate each other less. Adorable. And sparky and funny and a bit heartbreaking and... just sweet.
This is a bit of a weird book for readers who haven't read the Toronto Terror series yet. We see so many people in this story. Especially Rix and Tristan - it's basically their epilogue story. So I would suggest starting with the first Toronto book before reading this - and maybe even all of Helena's hockey books - it can totally be read as a standalone too - but you don't want to miss meeting all those people in their own books. And next up we'll get Dred with...nope - not gonna tell you! And then finally Flip! Gimme!!
I COULD BE YOURS was such a sweet and funny and sparky and adorable and emotional and weddingy and beachy pink cotton candy love story! Run to your nearest book dealer for your own Nate - this one is so mine.

This story is PURE MAGIC! Helena Hunting did it again, it's so addictive and one of my favorites this year! I’m obsessed, I couldn't put it down for a single second.
I was already curious about Nate and Essie in the previous books, but I didn't expect to love It so much. Nate is a complex character, super intelligent but always so grumpy, he is so broken and doesn't want to show his emotions, but when it's time for him to plan with Essie everything related to his brother's wedding, sparks fly between them. I love Essie so much, she's a rainbow that lights up everything around her, including Nate and his gray cloud. I love the way the author narrates the story and how little by little Essie manages to break through Nate's walls with her beautiful personality and sweetness. I love them so much together.Their banter is epic, and their passionate scenes are off the charts!
The authors did an exceptional job combining hilarious scenes with sweet, emotional, and spicy moments. I don't know how Helena does it, but every day I fall more in love with her stories and this world is exceptional, unique and so beautiful. I loved the glimpses of the their friends and their lives and I’m dying for the story of Connor and Dre, that epilogue already left me hooked. This book is UNPUTDOWNABLE, addictive and so good!
Highly recommended for fans of Grumpy sunshine Forced proximity Found Family I hate everyone but you Damaged Hero
If you've been following the escapades of Nate and Essie from the Toronto Terror series and Chase Lovett Wants Me, you're in for a treat! Their moment to shine has finally arrived, and trust me, it’s a journey you won’t want to miss.
Nate and Essie are completely at odds with each other. But when Nate steps in as the best man and Essie takes on the role of maid of honor, their rivalry over wedding responsibilities turns into a hilarious showdown. Will they end up in jail ... or tangled up in bed?
This book had me hooked from the start. The chemistry between Essie and Nate is electric. With the classic grumpy-sunshine dynamic and a delightful second-chance romance, the tension and humor kept me turning the pages.
🎧 Audiobook Experience The duet narration by Savannah Peachwood and Teddy Hamilton was a match made in audiobook heaven. Peachwood perfectly captured Essie’s yearning for a fairy-tale romance, alongside her reluctance to take risks after past heartbreaks. Meanwhile, Hamilton brought Nate to life as the hot nerd with a complicated relationship with love, showcasing his journey toward becoming the right man for Essie. Watching Nate’s character growth was a highlight, and I found myself rooting for their love story every step of the way.
Plus, it was fantastic to see familiar faces from the Toronto Terror and Blaze University series make appearances, adding depth and excitement to the overall experience. I’m left eagerly anticipating what’s next for the Toronto Terror crew!

“He ghosted her after the best kiss of her life… now they’re stuck planning a wedding together. Let the tension (and the salsa dancing) begin.” 💃🔥💍
Read if you like: ✨ sunshine x grump ✨ enemies to lovers (with a twist!) ✨ forced proximity ✨ wedding party shenanigans ✨ second chance vibes ✨ amazing banter + sizzling slow burn
📚 I Could Be Yours is a hilarious, heartfelt, and steamy rom-com starring Essie, a reformed fairytale fanatic turned determined maid of honor, and Nate, the emotionally constipated best man who kissed her once six years ago… then disappeared. Now they’re thrown together in a whirlwind of wedding events, salsa lessons, and unresolved tension—with a side of serious chemistry.
👨👧 Nate is the ultimate grump with a tragic backstory and walls a mile high. But underneath that broody surface is a man learning to heal, let go, and maybe believe in love. Essie? An unapologetically vibrant, vulnerable, and fierce heroine who brings the sunshine and isn’t afraid to call Nate out—while still protecting her own heart. Their dynamic? Pure fire.
💞 The romance is the perfect mix of banter, slow-burn tension, and deep emotional payoff. Watching Nate soften and Essie hold strong makes for a satisfying journey. Their chemistry simmers beneath every shared look and flirty retort, and when they finally give in? Whew. That steam is earned.
👧 You’ll love the found family vibes, the cameos from the Toronto Terrors crew (hi Beatrix & Tristan!), and the way the supporting characters add joy without stealing the spotlight. It’s part of a hockey-adjacent world but doesn’t require reading the previous books (though The Way I Hate You adds extra context!).
✍️ Helena Hunting’s writing here is some of her best—sharp, funny, and emotionally layered. And the audiobook? Phenomenal. Savannah Peachwood and Teddy Hamilton bring Nate and Essie to life in duet narration that makes every moment feel even more real.
🌟 I Could Be Yours is a sizzling, feel-good romance with depth, humor, and a whole lot of heart. Perfect for fans of sunshine-grump pairings, emotional redemption, and wedding chaos with a side of slow-dance seduction.
📲 QOTD: Do you believe in second chances with someone who ghosted you? Or is it a hard no? 📲 ALT QOTD: Which wedding role would you love to play—maid of honor, best man, or chaos coordinator? 👇
I used to lover Helena Hunting past books but her recent ones are just meh for me. I keep reading her in hopes to feel something with her writing again but maybe it’s time to quit this author.
This was such a cute book, set within the Toronto Terrors series! The features Nate and Essie, the best man and maid of honor in Rix and Tristan’s wedding (the first book in Toronto Terrors series). As they work (aka compete) to make the wedding events as fun as possible, they learn a lot about each other also. Here were some of the things I loved in this book:
📖 I love how Nate is considered the “hot nerd,” which is a nice departure from the hockey players. Don’t get me wrong, I love Toronto Terrors, but I equally loved businessman/scientist Nate.
📖 Nate was the quintessential grump to Essie’s sunshine. I loved that despite how different their personalities are, they have more in common than they originally thought.
📖 Speaking of, the fact that they are both organizers who love excel and spreadsheets warmed my type A heart.
📖It was awesome reading about all of the characters from the Toronto Terror series and getting caught up with each relationship.
📖 The narration was fantastic! Teddy Hamilton and Savannah Peachwood honestly can’t do any wrong. I loved the duet style narration and how they portrayed each character.
📖 I wanted to cry at Nate’s story and leftover baggage from his childhood.
I’m excited to see how the plot twist in the epilogue developed!! I hope we get to see more of that story as well as another couple hinted at throughout the book!
Thank you Helena Hunting for the ARC and ALC and the opportunity to review the book before publication!
What to Expect: - Best Man & Maid of Honor - Grumpy/Sunshine - Dislike to Love - Opposites Attract - Forced Proximity - Second Chance - Destination Wedding - Fun Banter - Found Family - Dual POV - Duet Narration
I Could Be Yours is the perfect summer rom-com that left a huge smile on my face. I love a good second-chance romance, but add in grumpy/sunshine vibes and fun banter, and I am all in. Essie and Nate shared a kiss 6 years ago, but the next day, Nate ghosted her, and they haven’t talked since. Now, their best friends are getting married, and Essie and Nate are stuck spending a lot of time together. As they plan the wedding events, old feelings start to come back, and they start to see each other in a different light. I loved the push and pull between these two. They are opposites, but somehow they fit well together. Essie is all sunshine, loves pink, and believes in true love. She's a makeup artist who dreams of a fairytale romance. Nate is grumpy and broken, but also vulnerable. He is trying to deal with past trauma. Their story is steamy, fun, and full of laughs, but what I loved most was the character growth. Realizing the need for help is a huge step for anyone to take, and I loved that Nate wanted to be better for Essie. In the end, Nate does the work, and we get a super satisfying happy ending.
Narration: Savannah Peachwood & Teddy Hamilton perform this audiobook in duet. I had a really good time listening to their performances as Essie and Nate. These two are super talented voice actors and flawlessly brought the story to life. Savannah and Teddy nailed the swoon, banter, tension, and the delicious chemistry between Essie and Nate.
Thanks to Helena Hunting and Dreamscape Media for the early review opportunity. Opinions expressed are my own.
I absolutely loved these two! This story had the summer romance vibes that turn into forever, their banter was so much fun to listen, too, and Helena's signature quirky characters were in full force. Full of fun and romance from cover to cover, and the phenomenal narrators were just the cherry on top!
Of course I started with the last book in the series... oops.
It was an enjoyable read—light and easy to get through. That said, I didn’t really connect with the characters. The emotional depth and backstories felt a bit too superficial for me. There was a lot of telling rather than showing, which isn’t my preference—I usually enjoy more immersive storytelling. Still, I loved moments like when the friend group casually pointed out things they did for each other without even realizing it. That kind of subtle dynamic is exactly what I wanted more of.
I realized pretty early on that this wasn’t the first book in the series, mainly because of how much emphasis was placed on other couples—their past struggles, their epic love stories, their seemingly perfect relationships. As a standalone, it came off a bit odd and out of place. I guess if you've followed the whole series, it might be nice to revisit these couples and see how blissfully in love (and overly active in bed) they all still are... but for me, it was too much. I prefer the focus to stay on the main couple. It’s fine for other characters to pop in and share insights, but here it felt repetitive and a bit unrealistic.
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I hoped, but I’m definitely going back to read the first book. Maybe starting from the beginning will change how I feel about the series overall.
I love second chance romances and Nate and Essie’s story gives us a fantastic one. It’s sweet, swoony, sexy, and full of heart but it’s not without pain and heartache. Right before leaving for university, Nate and Essie share an unforgettable kiss. Then, Nate ghosts Essie leaving her with hurt and unanswered questions.
Over the years, they continue to sort of avoid the past but there is still a tension surrounding the two of them whenever they are in the same room. When Nate and Essie are brought together to plan the wedding of Tristan (Nate’s brother) and Rix (Essie’s BFF), they spend way more time together than they had hoped and the attraction they shared initially is still very much there. However, Nate doesn’t believe in love and Essie wants her fairytale ending, so knowing that they want different things, they decide to have a little no-strings attached fun during the festivities. Feelings start to change the more time they spend together and things get messy leaving them more hurt and confused than ever. Can Nate and Essie figure out what they truly want and whether or not there is a happy ending for both of them?
I loved this story!! Nate and Essie have a lot going on in their heads about their ideas of love. Essie wants to find her one true love but she’s been burned in the past. Nate doesn’t believe in love because in his world, love doesn’t stay. Though these two end up heating up the pages the days leading up to the wedding while keeping emotion out of the equation, it’s when they start to really feel things that actually make them question everything.
Nate and Essie are so good together both in and out of the bedroom but they have a lot of healing to do individually before we can see a happily-ever-after for these two. It’s not an easy journey but the pain is worth it. Diving deep into their characters and seeing why they are the way they are pulls on your heartstrings and leaves you rooting for these two until the very end.
Though this is a standalone, I absolutely loved getting more of the characters I have met through the other books set in the HH hockey world. From Toronto Terror to Tilton U, these characters all make up a solid group of family and friends. Their love and support for each other feels real and I enjoyed getting more of their interactions.
I have to mention that I listened to the audiobook and it is wonderful. It was recorded with duet narration and that is quickly becoming my favorite type of audiobook to listen to. The narrators brought the characters to life and their different voices were unique to each character. I never questioned which character was talking and was able to see the story play out in my mind. Their voices drew me in and I easily felt the emotion they were trying to convey. They sounded light hearted when they were having fun but also devastated when they were heartbroken. I found myself reaching for the audiobook instead of the ebook because I wanted to hear their voices because they made the whole story more real.

My Review: I Could Be Yours by Helena Hunting is a "summer holiday romance." It is scheduled for release on 7/10/25.
About the Book: "The best man ghosted me six years ago after kissing me, and now I have to plan every wedding event under the sun with him."
In My Own Words: Timing always seems to be off between two people who have shared a long history of chemistry, passion, and intense interest in each other. Will a summer wedding between their loved ones be the just right time to find their forever love with one another?
About the Leads:
Essie Lovelock - > I loved Essie on the whole. She was caring, attentive, aware, compassionate and loving. She was a caretaker of hearts. The way she positioned herself in the lives of those she cared for said it all. When and how she showed up for Nate was golden.
Nate Stiles - > This beautiful, broken man... He stole my heart right out of my chest. Despite his rough spots and grumpiness, he was a good guy. I can see why Essie was in her feelings about him.
About the Characters: This novel was filled with a boatload of interesting characters. Their troubled backgrounds, familial and friendship bonds, professions, and statuses completely captured my attention. I could not get enough of them. I had hoped that this book served as the start of a whole new series. Fingers crossed on that!
Character of Interest: CONNER
I cannot wait to get into the dets about him. Yass!
About the Audiobook: This novel was narrated by Savannah Peachwood and Teddy Hamilton. They did an excellent job. I was thoroughly entertained.
My Final Say: I Could Be Yours was everything I needed it to be. The unrequited love angle rolled into a forever romance love story. I was here for it. The emotional connection and sexual tension between Essie and Nate was chef's kiss.
I loved that mental health was presented & promoted so positively.
Other: Readers who enjoy enemies to lovers, summer weddings, athletes, richy rich professionals, engineers, makeup artists, second chance romances, grumpy vs sunshine personalities, family dysfunction stories, found family relationships, and spicy hot situationships will like this book.
Sincere appreciation is extended to the author, to the publisher (Dreamscape Media), and NetGalley. Thank you so very much for providing access to an ALC in exchange for an honest critique. It was a pleasure to review this work. I look forward to reading more about the amazing characters presented in this "complete standalone."
** Audio Review ** Obsessed!! I Could Be Yours by Helena Hunting was an alluring and swoony second-chance, opposites-attract romance that I devoured from start to finish. I couldn’t get enough of Essie and Nate’s hilarious and heartfelt journey to HEA. Plus, all the character cameos at Tristan and Rix’s wedding had my heart singing! This is a new favorite from Helena for sure!
Savannah Peachwood and Teddy Hamilton perform this audiobook in duet-style narration. This pairing is one of my all-time favorite narrator pairings, and both narrators fully embodied Essie and Nate. Savannah’s soft, intimate tone embraced Essie’s dainty, passionate personality perfectly, making you ache for her to find her true happiness with Nate. Teddy does what he does best, making Nate so lovable and relatable, creating just the right amount of tension and desire between him and Essie. Plus, the undeniable chemistry was HOT right from he start between Essie and Nate.
Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a destination wedding romance with a hot hunk engineer, a dedicated hardworker, and a planner, wedding festivities, second chances, limbo fun, steamy shed kisses, all the character cameos, dance lessons, run-ins with exes, Vegas bachelorette/ bachelor party fun, spicy spice, an Aruba wedding, family drama, learning to let love in, love declarations, intimate conversations, and a HEA that is pretty in pink, then you will love Essie and Nate’s story. I always look forward to more from Helena Hunting.
One kiss. That’s all it took for Nate and Essie to catch feelings. Until Nate ghosted Essie and for six years, they both avoided eachother until Nate’s brother and Essie’s BFF are getting married. (Rix and Tristan!!!)
Nate the grump. Essie the rainbow.
With the wedding coming up, they both end up having a competition on who can be the best bride of honor/best man. "I know you're used to being the center of attention, Ess, and I'm sure it burns your ass to share the limelight. But I'm happy to knock you off a paddleboard later to cool you down."
The banter and tension was delicious! It’s the: 🏝️GrumpXSunshine 🏝️Forced Proximity 🏝️Second Chance 🏝️Summer Vacation Romance 🏝️It’s a Secret till It’s Not 🏝️Found Family
I love seeing all our loved characters from multiple series of Helena Hunting! Everyone comes together for this epic wedding. Down to the hilarious cucumber mentions, I was dying laughing. 🥒
Nate is a flawed character that recognizes where his pain stems from and wants to get help to better himself and for the girl he fell in love with. The character growth is there. The love story is there. And it’s the sweetest ending. I’m literally so in love with his world and all these characters and their individual love stories!
Tropes- Grumpy x sunshine Second chance Best man x maid of honor Forced Proximity Opposites Attract Found family
✨️ Thank you to Helena for the ALC for my honest review! This duet audiobook was narratorated by two of my favorites! Teddy and Savannah killed it! This book gives you everything that you look for in a spicy summer rom com. I loved Nate and Essie's little quirks and how good they fit together. I loved getting all of the other couples from Helena's Toronto Terror series. This takes place during Rix and Tristan's wedding. I loved their book (If you hate me) and getting to see more of their relationship as well! I definitely recommend it!
Essie and Nate are two poor souls who don’t see things until it’s slapped in their faces.
They were so in love but used a spicy arrangement to cover it up! I loved how they tried to hide it from all their friends, but of course, their appearances were perfect and just adorable.
Essie and Nate had such good chemistry and such hot spice!
I love how Helena Hunting gives us HEAs for so many of the characters that we meet in her stories, in their own books like this one! While this is more of a standalone – not in any of the other series exactly – we do know about our characters from the other series, like the Toronto Terrors, Pucked, All In, and Lies, Hearts & Truths. While our couple in this story aren’t actually a part of the hockey world, they are adjacent. Nate is the brother of Tristan who we met in If You Hate Me, and Essie was also introduced in that story as Rix’s best friend.
This story takes place around the events of Tristan and Rix’s wedding. Nate and Essie are best man and maid of honor. They did all go to school together, and so there was one kiss, back in high school, that led Essie to have a dislike of Nate. And Nate is just altogether a grump like Tristan was in his book. Nate of course is also dealing with their mother leaving them, and shortly after he dealt with his girlfriend cheating on him and then leaving him. So he doesn’t think that love is real, and thinks everyone will leave in the end. Essie is into all things princess, she’s always been the girl that was bubbly and all the guys wanted to date, but she would fall quick, and of course they never stayed with her either.
The two have to work together to make the wedding and all the events leading up to it as wonderful as possible for the best friend/brother. Of course working together it is hard for Nate to not fall under the charm of the bubbly Essie. And it’s hard for her to not to see more of him and realize all the things that are behind his grumpy exterior. Both of them have some science type of background with their jobs, and so have that connection. And it doesn’t hurt that we start off with Nate helping Essie get out of a dress she’s stuck in and when it falls to the floor, he sees that she has two piercings. So of course the physical attraction is all there.
So many disasters that the two of them help the other out of and save things for the wedding. And of course both of them are gun-shy at letting it go any further than just a fun fling for during the wedding events. I was of course annoyed that both knew how the other had been hurt in the past, yet both were quick enough to believe the other one if they didn’t immediately cave or agree that it could be more. But I do like how things got solved. It wasn’t one grand gesture to get them back together. Nate finally started talking to someone. Essie waited until she thought he was actually ready and wouldn’t hurt her again, but she didn’t drag it way out.
So many fun moments in this, lots of steamy moments as well, and a lot of emotion. Another great story from Helena Hunting!
2.75 ⭐️ Thank you so much to The Author Agency for sending me an E-ARC!
Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me. In the beginning, I really liked our two main characters, Nate and Essie but towards the middle-end ish, I started to get bored. The book started off really strong with the banter between the characters, telling us that Nate ghosted Essie a few years ago and the story unfolds to tell us why that happened. Tbh, the explanation on why he ghosted wasn’t good and made me dislike him a lot because why? 😭😭
I’m so sad that this was my first Helena Hunting book but I’ll definitely read her other books because I think I would like those more!
Six years ago, Essie and Nate shared a kiss, then he disappeared. Now, fate has brought them back together as maid of honor and best man, forced to plan wedding events side by side. The chemistry is still very much there, but Essie is determined to keep her distance. She’s holding out for a fairytale romance, and she’s convinced Nate isn’t the type to believe in happily ever after. Of course, resisting each other doesn't last long, but Essie remains guarded, unsure if she can trust Nate with her heart again.
Savannah Peachwood and Teddy Hamilton were a delight as Essie and Nate, bringing their flirty banter and tension to life making it a fun listen. If you're a fan of second chance romances with witty banter you'll want to give this one a listen!
Tropes: 👑 Grumpy x Sunshine 🌧️ Second Chance 👑 Hurt/Comfort 🌧️ Best Man x Maid of Honor 👑 Opposites Attract I loved this book! It’s such a heartfelt journey especially for Nate, who’s spent his life bracing for people to leave. Watching him struggle with vulnerability and push away something as real and natural as what he shares with Ess? Gut-wrenching. 🥺 Essie is the ultimate fairytale romantic soft, hopeful, and just wanting to be seen for more than her looks. She and Nate have a small but meaningful history, and being thrown together at a wedding? Let’s just say emotions run high. It’s sweet, a little messy, and unexpectedly healing. 💕 But the way Essie and Nate have a "messy" start and what breaks my heart is that Nate feels like he doesn't know how to love but he does in his own way but i loved this story and the way they both are right for each other in the way they he is darkness and she is sunshine for him "I have no faith in love. No faith that it can endure, because in my experience, it doesn’t."
Loved Nate and Essies story. So much love, growth, and support.
Essie got ghosted by Nate six years ago after an amazing kiss, but they are now thrown together as best man and maid of honor for a wedding between Essies best friend and Nates brother.
Nate has a lot of emotional damage to overcome and doesn't believe in love , while Essie is looking for that fairytale happily ever after and is all sunshine and rainbows.
These two compliment each other perfectly but are they able to both growth and really look deep into themselves to be the best selves for each other.
Loved, loved, loved!! I can't wait for the next book!!
Essie Lovelock should just be focused on being the best maid of honor for her bestie Rix but she can’t stop thinking about Nate Stiles. They shared a kiss once. Now he is everywhere she is being involved in the wedding as well since he is the bride’s soon to be brother in law. Let the wedding games commence in this hilarious romcom. Omg, when this group gets together there is never a shortage of fun times. Nate and Essie’s story is both fun banter and touching moments. Such a great grumpy/sunshine romance. Told in first person and dual POV
ARC provided by the author…Thank you to Helena Hunting for the chance to read your newest book before its release. I loved Nate and Essie’s story. The interweaving of characters from the Toronto Terror series and Chase Lovett Wants Me helped me love the story even more. The humor, the genuine care and love these characters have for one another make Helena Hunting’s books so easy to sit down and read in one sitting. 5⭐️
4.25⭐️. Devoured Nate & Essie’s story in a day! I love me a grumpy MMC and Nate certainly delivered! This man thinks love is a sham, but when he can’t stop thinking about a kiss 6 years ago that he shared with a woman who’s obsessed with love….time will only tell if his thoughts will shift. The banter between these two will have you ready for that tension to snap….and when it does, it is so delicious!
Audiobook🎧: Narrated in duet by Savannah Peachwood and Teddy Hamilton and it was so amazing to listen to! They perfectly embodied the characters of Essie & Nate and I loved every minute of this audio!
What to expect: 🌸Grumpy x sunshine 🌸Forced proximity 🌸Opposites attract 🌸Best man x Maid of honor 🌸Found family
