5 Amber. Here. Now. STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You know those nice romance novels with the sweet guy and the pretty girl and everything just works out and it's a good book but nothing super special?
Well this is not that book.
It may seem like it will be but it's so much better!!

The writing is just superb. I was pulled in quickly and between the fascinating characters, the witty banter, the flow of the story and the emotions I was feeling I was blown away! I loved every second.

Dating first, then sex, he reminded himself. That was the order of things."

Barry is all kinds of wonderful; he was such a breath of fresh air. (No man whore here.) He's smart and a bit geeky, but he's also sweet, tender caring, genuine and true to himself. Plus he's sexy and can take control. I mean come on, he has six-pack abs and a two-pack butt. He may go a bit over-the-top with things and be overly dramatic at times but he is who he is and he's a wonderful person. I haven't enjoyed reading a male character this much in a while.
I want a Barry!!

He also had moves from his mother’s romance novels he was dying to try out.

Amber is a bit lost and needs to feel special to someone. She's strong and funny, original and sexy, creative, outgoing and kind but she's still finding herself. Thank goodness she has enough sense to realize what is right in front of her.

She was so different from the women in his past. She fascinated him. An artist with a sense of humor—she’d laughed at his jokes as so few did—and an innate kindness.

This story was really funny and endearing and it was so much more than I expected.

I can't wait to read the other books in the series.

Meh. I was stuck between a 2 & 3 star rating. Barry failed as a sensitive geek hero for me. He was a suffocating, rich, horny, alpha poorly disguised as a nerd. And Amber was vanilla, immature, and poorly disguised as a cute, quirky artist. And really that whole Pavlovian sex thing was just plain annoying.

Stud Unleashed: Barry was ALMOST a 5 for me....soooo very close that I almost said screw it and gave it the 5...but then the things that I didn't like kept poking at me saying "nuhuhuh...you always say you'll give an honest accurate review of your thoughts...." so it gets a 4...sorry!

I know that Barry has gotten some pretty amazing reviews on Goodreads already and I can't blame them! Barry the dancing cow that can't say probiotics properly is one sexy man!

Let's start off with what I LOVED about this book :)

As usual, Kylie's writing is way, way, way above par! Her writing style is amazing! It grabs the reader and drags them in...even if you weren't ready for it! Amber and Barry's relationship is amazing. It's fun, witty, and so real that I couldn't help but keep reading...and reading...and reading until my husband looked at me and asked "Are you ever going to put that book down and sleep??"

Umm...clearly I wasn't! I sat up and read this book in one sitting! It totally rocked!!

The story line is just awesome, the characters are beautifully developed, and don't even get me started on how perfect the romance is written! Everything flows so wonderfully and I just cannot get over how amazing Barry is! Barry is sweet, goofy, sexy and best of all (in my opinion...but I did marry an IT nerd lol) a bit nerdy! I'm not sure how anyone could NOT fall in love with him! Even though he does talk about his 6 pack abs and 2 pack butt A LOT! (Okay so this drove me absolutely nutty...I know he didn't say it out loud all that much...but the man thought the exact same words over and over and over until I was about ready to break his DVD...which I probably should get a copy of lol)

Amber is one adorable, sexy bad ass artist with a sweet side. When her new next door neighbor develops into a friendship that she didn't realize she needed until now, she gets scared when she has thoughts about him that aren't quite friendly. Things are definitely escalated when Barry kisses her and it rocks her world! (Though the washing machine could have something to do with that right?)

After not one, but two dates that end in disaster Amber decides that enough is enough and they totally should stick to just being friends...if only Barry would give up as well!

When Barry lands a role in a local play that Amber is working on the set...lets just say that things get interesting!

So what didn't I like about the book?

I've already mentioned the fact that Barry loves to think about his abs and butt...and it annoyed me greatly!

But there is a bit more that kept Stud Unleashed from being a 5 for me.

Let's talk about how he likes to 'hold her' when they are together. Not just when they have sex...nope he likes to reach down, insert his fingers and 'hold her' whenever he gets the chance....

Umm..sorry but nope...not sexy to me...just sort of weird!

I even read a few instances of this happening to my hubs to see if it was just me...and nope...he thought it was creepy too!

Soo....Mr. Sexy Geek Dancing Cow Man...stop sitting around randomly with your fingers in your girl!!

Also...I was really upset with the way that Amber treated Barry...even when they were just friends! If she can't accept all of him then she doesn't deserve him! I mean really, making him take off the magnets from his car and telling him he can't ever use the Moo button when she is in it. That's just silly! She knew who she was getting with to begin with! Don't try to change him!

As you can see...my reasons for Stud Unleashed: Barry not being a 5 have nothing to do with the writing...because come on...we all know that Kylie is one damn fine author! The story just had some quirks that 'weren't for me' I guess you could say.

If you are looking for a great read with a geeky romance then this is definitely the book for you! I know that I will most certainly be getting the rest of the books in the series!!

So head on over to Amazon and pick up your copy now!!

I admit right off the bat- Huge Kylie Gilmore fan here. I've read and enjoyed every single book that came my way from her last year. Of course I was excited to hear a new series was coming out, and especially that it was a Clover Park spin off.

As per usual, Kylie's story was full of laughs and sizzle. Stud Unleashed: Barry is a sexy, funny romp about opposites attract, but it's so much more as well. It's emotional, it's engaging, it's witty. I have one problem. I've now finished each and every Stud book already so I don't know what to do with myself. The badgering will commence.

Barry is a geek in so many ways, but he's also got the BIGGEST heart. Even with the best of intentions, Barry's plans sometimes goes very wrong. Amber has a lot of spunk, and she's got a little bit of a wild streak, and she's also very creative. She's found a great friend in Barry. Could there be so much more?

These two compliment each other in every way. I enjoyed the journey of Amber and Barry breaking down walls and falling in love. Gilmore's story flows with ease and I found myself unable to put it down. I don't reread often, but I have a feeling I'm not going to be able to resist unleashing the stud that is Barry a handful of times. This story touched my heart. Something about the way these two fell in love really made me feel good inside. I love a good opposites attract story, and this one was that and more.

Am I rambling? Why yes, I believe I am. I just can't get enough of this story. It's going down as my all time favorite book from Kylie and I think everyone should have this stud on their TBR piles.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Barry Fernukle is a nerd. A hot nerd. He’s sold his mobile app and now owns The Dancing Cow ice cream shop where he often dresses up like a cow. “Also, he was a gem. His mother said so.”

Amber Lewis is Barry’s next door neighbor and the apple of his eye. The blonde haired artist captured his attention ever since she dropped her thong out of her laundry basket in the hall. But, she’s also out of his league…and dating a tattooed muscle bound sleezeball.

When Barry revisits his own artistic side and lands a part in the community musical, he and Amber become more than neighbors and friends. But, after the curtain falls will Amber stay interested in Barry or move him back to the friend zone?

I’ve enjoyed Kylie’s books ever since I read “Bad Taste In Men” and “Kissing Santa”. She has a fun style of writing that keeps the story moving quickly making me laugh along the way. Plus, she writes a hell of a sex scene!! *fans self*

“Barry” is no different. Between hilarious one liners and super sexy bedroom moments, this read moves right along as we watch Barry move from quiet nerd to a smoking hot and confident Pirate.

One thing I love most in romance novels is a change in perspective. I enjoy reading from both POV’s and was very happy to find I’d get to read both Barry and Amber’s thoughts throughout the course of this book.

There’s something for everyone here – sex, fun, singing, dancing, acting, fighting, fucking – seasoned with romance and love. A perfect read to get you ready for spring!

Barrett a.k.a Barry b.k.a Bare FINALLY got his story. I truly loved his geekiness from the other books but I wanted him to get his own story. I enjoyed the chase he gave Amber and how he respected her and had fun while doing it.

I laughed at his cheesy lines and his pirate act. He is just a riot who faught for the girl who stole his heart with an over the shoulder wink. This books adds to a hit series by Kylie that keeps you engaged and cheering on the fro-yo pirate king.

Shallow

Barry and Amber are neighbors and close friends. Amber has pink streaks in her hair and is an artist, which I guess the author tried to make her edgy as if hair color and a hobby that doesn't pay the bills equaled personality. Barry is the cliche nerd. He's like bird watching and dressing up as a cow, and of course he's rich from programming some app about noises because what good is a male lead if he isn't filthy rich?
The whole "brother teaching him how to pick up women" didn't really happen. After a disastrous first date with Amber, which she only accepted out of pity, she wants to be just friends. Barry complained and His brother had him audition for a play because girls flocked to him when he played Danny from Grease in high school. That was the extent of the brotherly advice.
Mild spoilers: so he ends up getting the lead of the pirate king and all of the sudden Amber is all over him again. Like one page she wants to be friends, you turn the page and she is yelling that he is hers. Apparently all of the sudden, Barry is hot with lots of abs and muscles everywhere. Being that most of the novel took place practicing for a play, there were at least 10 different significant female characters and only two of them weren't attracted to Barry after he got the role. The author even used an obsessed gay guy who couldn't take the hint as comedic relief, which just came off as shallow.
Speaking of shallow, Amber was AWFUL. First she only slept with Barry when he was in character as the pirate king. She was constantly mad at him for the stupidest things. Barry bought some of her paintings for his mother and Amber didn't know it was him buying them. She got super angry and dumped him. She also let him but a years rent for an art studio for her she they were dating for like a week. He was also constantly buying her gifts. She was whiny, shallow, and kind of a gold digger.
That aside, nerdy geeky Barry became a while new person after he got the part in the play. I mentioned all the girls loving him over night and his instant good looks already, which he got from a workout DVD titled "how to get six pack abs and a two pack butt" he even admitted that he only worked out to impress her and he was constantly trying to look cool instead of just being himself. He was borderline obsessed with her. Most of the book he was apologizing for things that weren't his fault or his inner monologue was ranting about how amazing and perfect Amber is. He seemed like a sweet enough guy but he wasn't the same guy by the, end of the book. Despite Barry's obsession with her, Amber and Barry lacked any spark. Their conversations were dull and repetitive.
Barry from the beginning was the only reason this review wasn't one star. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this book. It's just too frustrating. My hatred for Amber ruined it.

DNF at 24%.

Fun, Hot and Geeky Romance

Barry and Amber may seem like an opposites attract kind of couple from the beginning but as the story progresses you realize they are very much the same shy about love types. The falling in love with the hall neighbor was done in a very interesting way. Love the dynamic with all the people from Clover Park some of my very favorite show up in this one. I love that you get the entire range of human emotion with this story and it kept me hooked to my tablet from beginning to end. Can't wait to read about the next couple. Hot Geeks here I come... LOL

Stud Unleashed: Barry, by Kylie Gilmore, is a lighthearted romance story about Barry and Amber, two neighbors that couldn't be more different. After two failed attempts at dating, Barry sets out to prove to Amber they are meant to be together. As always. Ms. Gilmore does not disappoint. The story is fun to read and Barry’s antics will keep you laughing. I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series!

I was hooked on this book from the start. I loved the whole geek and artist relationship. I thought it was hilarious how Amber was so embarrassed of Bare's unique personality on their first few dates. He tried so hard to get her to like him. To me, they were the perfect couple from the beginning. Definitely looking forward to reading more from this Author. (ARC)

Laugh out loud BAD

I really enjoyed the start of this book, a quirky story about two people who have nothing in common, that are still attracted to each other. Then it went downhill fast. Bare turned into a sex crazed ass, and Amber into nothing but his plaything. I tried, but couldn't finish it, it was insulting and stupid.

Compelling storyline - nothing trite or boring

I read this book straight through. It was funny and emotional as well as steamy and a bit deep in regards to the emotional part of the plot. This romance actually had a good love story in it and the psychology behind her trust issues was spot-on. My heart connected with the characters. And her writing was amazing. I fell in love with the hero too. I will read more books by this author.

Almost in love is a very balanced book as it revolves around the couple Bare and Amelia. Bare is boy next door who is kind, supportive and a geek. Amelia is the hot girl next door with a pink hair streak and is also a budding artist. They both are well off on the friends turf but Bare wants it to be more. They go on a date which ends up with a disaster. So what happens next? Does Bare change his game tactics listening to his brother Ian or will he be the honorable good guy till the end?

There are so many good things about this book and there are a few things that I didn't like in this book. The first is the good part:
1. The story is sweet, slow and passionate.
2. The characters are moderately developed, enough so that the reader can connect to them.
3. The side characters also get enough screen time and the story seems to bring the good side of the characters.
4. Family is given importance and that gets good points from me.
5. Artists and their feeling is brought about in such a sweet way and Amelia sure represents me when I'm distressed.

Now for the things that I didn't like or annoyed me a little:
1.The story gives out a moral- Change yourself from geeky to hot to attract girls. I don't think that applies everywhere. But The author has also amended this bringing in Kate's story. I liked that very much.
2. I wouldn't reject Bare if I was Amelia, especially with her history of bad boys. That makes Amelia lose points from me.
3. The story at the beginning seemed forced. The guy and the girl are being forced and put together and made to fall inn love. And Amelia is an idiot. But then again the author saves the story in second half of the book with an amazing story line and making Bare perfect and Amelia sensible.
4. I'll be honest- I loved Kate and Ian more than the lead pair. Because their story ha some sense, Kate is a smart girl albeit stubborn and Ian is the opposite of Bare.

But together with its perfections and imperfections the story brings out a nice combination of geekiness and steaming romance. A good book with a good story!

3.5 nerd alert.

Schizophrenic story.

Cute, hidden-alpha, nerd falls for pink-haired, kinda-free spirit.

The H has a crush on his neighbor and has not one clue how to win her over. So, he makes a chick move and orders a Six pack abs and buns of steel video to win her heart. Luckily for him, it's a good start.

Plusses: H has hidden dominant tendencies that win him his girl plus he can sing and dance.

Negs: The h is a supposedly free spirit and penned in by her Physics loving family, but shuts the H down when his not so inner nerd/geek reigns. Very disappointing to the H and me.

All in all, I recommend, but I prefer Making Over Maris for a good geek love story.

While the premise of this story is cute and I mostly enjoyed this book, I just couldn't really get into how the main characters treated each other. They were saying (mostly) all the right things but the occasional conversation or more often action would completely derail my enjoyment of the story. I really didn't appreciate the latter portion of the book when Amber was "trained" in a Pavlovian-like way. I felt that their relationship was very skewed and, for most of the book, one-sided. Amber didn't seem to appreciate or treat Barry the way that she should have. There was entirely too much focus on all the "negative" things she didn't like about him. I also thought that Barry was too desperate and focused on the physical aspects of himself and the relationship.

Short review. I'm glad this book was free because I definitely would have been asking for a refund. Barry is a sweet shy nerdy geek trying to win over his next-door neighbor Amber. After two failed attempts at going on a date Barry is left feeling not good enough and tries to change himself to impress her, here lies my problem with the story. Barry shouldn't have to change himself for shallow Amber who is embarrassed by him throughout the story and is only interested in him when other women start noticing him and when he's in his acting persona. The real him is embarrassing to her but fake him is way more attractive to her, I really wish that both characters parted ways and that Barry found someone who accepted him for him.

What a breath of fresh air! This is the perfect cheesy, 6-pack abs, 2-pack butt book! It was fun, flirtatious, and easy going. It had little angst, a hero who was only just discovering how domineering he could be with the right girl and a heroine who was dying to be a struggling artist. It was easy to read, with a ton of heart. The chemistry between Bare and Amber was off the charts and the funny supporting cast rounded out the good natured spirit of this book. It was a definite fun read.

Cute cow!!!

This was a really cute story. This story has pink hair, nerds, cows, birds and Irish jig's lol. This book has laughter and romance and sex and drama. I enjoyed this book. He was so cute. I'm glad he didn't change to much. Loved these two together.

Almost genuinely likeable characters, but the hero had a ring of complicity in his geek masculinity that tarnished him with adorkable misogyny. bummer.

it was sweet at times but very suffocating
do the characters have good sexual chemistry? yes

many moments were rushed and horrible to read about as Amber was understandably upset that the guy she was dating brought her paintings and just let her think it was someone else (one of my notes was on this about how he should have told her before inviting her and the cast to his house)

every moment of conflict was brushed over way to quickly like Barry inviting her mum to the gallery (which is it's whole other thing btw) like how would he have known that Amber and her mum had a shitty relationship? these characters had no real conversations outside of his dad died... and like Amber's ongoing thoughts about that tv show was both their favourite and Barry just didn't care for it so she was surprised when he said that he didn't like it that much?

With the gallery he could have done it sooner or talked to her about it? i don't know how this works but surely Amber whilst bemoaning her lack of sales on the shop would have had other social media? its all well and good having a shop but what good does it do if you don't advertise and talk about it? Amber said she was trying to succeed on painting alone but then no mention was made of her talking about it on social media or even with people she knows in her life?

side note why did she not put two and two together she told a guy about the shop and suddenly it started getting sales like her justification is different name and address obviously not this person that i just spoke to about it.... also why didn't Barry tell her he brought the first painting because that one was a gift for his mum so why not tell her that?)

would I say Barry falls for the adorkable mysogynist trope? yes I think so looking back
his insta- lust protrayed as love
his public marriage proposal (I hate how it came about just as much as I usually hate public proposals), the bet and all that it entailed

Wow! I'm so glad that I chose to read this book! It was absolutely amazing!

It's been a while since I've read a book that made me feel all warm and fuzzy and all kinds of happy like this one did. It was funny, sweet, romantic, and endearing. I loved it from the beginning uncertainties of a new potential romance to the eventually happy banter, give and take, and crazy, madly-in-love trials and tribulations of angst and ultimately giddy exhilaration. It even had the perfect happy-ever-after that's totally unexpected and often neglected as one book in a series of books! Yay!!! Thank you Kylie Gilmore for making me feel so happy and cheerful with your delightful tale about two people who find themselves in love despite, or perhaps because, of their initial personal ideas of perfection, and different opinions over what makes the perfect dating scenario and style. I totally loved this book, and thoroughly recommend it for any adults that are true romantics at heart!

FREE on Google Books - SOME spoilers below..

Barrett/Barry/Dancing Cow/IT Nerd: I found him a bit strange (guy obsessed with getting abs and who wore hawaiian shirts all the time). He had some quirks that I just found weird (and Amber didn't..)

Pink Hair/Amber: I liked her creative artistic side.

The first date was a disaster (planned by him).
The second date was a disaster (planned by her).

Somewhere along the line I got sucked into their story, but I wasn't sold on Amber liking him for who he was initially (too nerdy for her, she's embarrassed by him) and he lies about liking zombies to spend time with her (I would NEVER suffer through zombies for anyone).

Then they go from friends to lovers and have an insatiable sex life (4 times A DAY).
