Despite the fact that she is a romance writer, Samantha Christy's favorite television show of all time is The Walking Dead.

And contrary to the fact that her heroines drink things like wine and Cosmos, she prefers Bud Light.

She also loves fan mail and answers all of it.

She went to college and all that, getting a degree in something she never uses. She's also got a gaggle of kids (4) and a pretty decent husband.

Mitch, Jeff, Kay.... Damn what an emotionally captivating love triangle. The main reason I hate love triangles is because they're usually done purely for the author's advantage, not so much the sake of the story, plot, or characters. This one is different, purposeful, meaningful. It was the heart of the story, So, don't let it deter you from giving this book a chance.

I loved that this story was told in one book... No cliffhanger or open end for more. Romantic plot is resolved and the future looks bright for the world.

The author did a fantastic job fleshing out the characters in such a short timeframe. I think the diary entries/letters really helped readers connect with Kay & feel her loss, confusion, strengths, weaknesses, and newfound outlook on her future.

For the most part, this book is about the struggle to move past loss & allow the heart second chances. It takes an unexpected turn and becomes about the difference between settling for contentment in comfort, familiarity -or- having awakening passion with someone. For the male MC, it's a struggle of conscious, promises, and loyalty. There were some heartbreaking moments for all the characters as love and loyalty constantly collide and clash. Again, the author did a great job with 'feel' vs 'tell' writing.

It was a nice romantic read with fairly clean sexual scenes.. Nothing too wild or boisterous for the tame crowd. Steamy, but no Fifty Shades style lovemaking;)

My one complaint... the road to the end!

What I didn't like was that the guy who opted to leave did so in a way that put the female MC through unnecessary grief and left her without any way of knowing he was remotely an option.

Her thought was that he was headed to a place she couldn't possibly go and that there wouldn't be any hope of finding him any time soon, if ever. I didn't like that he, by all intent and purpose, took her CHOICE away from her. I understand why he felt like he owed them a chance or closure, I just did not like the 'how' he did it.

What if she would've snuck off and risked her life to go after him? What if she thought he didn't love her enough to fight so she'd go with the guy that stuck around because of fear, desperation, and heartbreak? What if she would've chosen to go be a big city doctor?

Just Too, Too many what ifs for such a stupid risk when he could've given them the space they need for resolution without the extremely risky disappearing act that not only took being with him off the table in her mind, but could've put her in danger.

^ It made the ending somewhat dissatisfying for me personally because it seemed that it was more happenstance in her choices of what NOT to have that she ended up where she did in the end vs a situation where he chooses her and she chooses him. Some may see this differently; So, read it and come to your own conclusion!

Despite my complaint, I'd still recommend the book because I still loved all the characters & the story. It was well worth the read.

I received this book for an honest review. When I received this book I had no idea what this story was about but I was hooked from the first word to the very end. This book is a stand alone and does not end on a cliffhanger.

In this book we meet Mikayla. Mikaya is a doctor that is in her second year of residency when the world suddenly changes. What we find out a few chapters later is that there was an EMP pulse made by solar flares that effected the entire worlds electricity, which in turn effected everything else. Mikaya is using her limited knowledge to help people who have made their way to Camp Brady in Florida. It has been a place to house both military and civilians alike. When the EMP pulse hit it was Easter weekend so many families were gone from the base due to this it made it easier for everyone to be housed on the base. There is also a natural spring on this base so water was not a problem. Mikayla became to resident doctor and does her best but she knows there are certain things she can not do and that makes her sad every-time she looses someone. All of the troops that were stationed overseas have no way to make it home and this includes her fiance. Some try to hold on for these people others find ways for their own happiness.

A year after coming to this base a man hits one of their recon transports and is brought back to their facility to seek treatment. The problem with him is he has retro-grade amnesia and is missing the last 2 years of his life so he has no idea what has happened to the world or why he is even there. All this man knows is his name is Mitch Matheson and he is a Sergeant in the Army.

There are many twists and turns that Mikayla and Mitch go through and I will not ruin them buy telling you in my review. All I will say is each of them is leading to something bigger in store for the both of the. I would recommend this as a must read for anyone and everyone. Even if you are not in end of the world type of books this one will have you so lost in the story that you would think you would walk outside and be a part of it. This needs to be on everyone's TBR list

I really enjoyed this book! Also as a bonus it's a decent length (about 300 ish pages) and there is NO Cliffhanger - Yay!!!

A very emotional love story which slowly builds with a few quirks and twists along the way. Whilst I had guessed the plot line pretty early on it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book.

Readers who are not huge fans of dystopian novels should have NO FEAR of reading Finding Mikayla!

At heart this is a passionate love story set in the future. There are no zombies or crazy folks - well no more than you'd expect in any story and the whole "end of the world as we know it" scenario is very credible.

The love triangle aspect didn't have me cringing but rather I thought "This could be me under similar circumstances". It's an honest insight into Mikayla's struggle to come to term with both herself and her situation after everything in her life changes.

Mitch and Jeff ? Well there we have two hotties to get your motor running and to top it all they're really nice guys too. I'm not going to say much more about them, you will have to read the book.

This was well written, character driven book and although this was my first book by this author I will look forward to reading more of her work in the future.

I received this book for honest review.
I liked how each character had such depth espeacilly main characters Mikayla and Mich.

While reading this I was taken to HUGE emotional journey, there were times when I was laughing do hard and those that I was crying with the main character. I could feel how my heart was almost shattered to things that happened and then there were times when my heart was pounding for different reasons. Hot scenes were tastefully written and one could imagine herself to be Mikayla.

I didn't read the summary to this book at all so everything that happened was full suprise for me.

There were times when I was really suprised and then there were those times when I actually marked down what I think would happen at some point at the story, and all my markings were right.

I can honestly say that Finding Mikayla deserves full five stars from me and I think everyone should read this book!

4.5 Stars ~ This book reminded me of TV show Revolution. I enjoyed the story and the hope you felt through the characters. It was great seeing people working together through tough times to make ends meet. I loved Mikayla, how she cared for people and how she changed over her year in the community, realizing what things were really important to her. I have to say that I did guess Mitch's story but it didn't take away from anything for me. I am glad that you included the epilogue with a glimpse into the future, it turned out just as I hoped it would.

Great book. I will definitely recommend this book.

I love the story of Mitch and Mikayla. A real love story. It took Mitch 8 months to find Mikayla after the blackout. He made a promise to Jeff to find Mikayla and take care of her, protect her. But funny how they meet after Mitch had a car accident and was brought to the clinic were Mikayla was working. He suffered temporarily Amnesia. Over all this love story tells you to never give up on true love never give up on Hope. True Love will always find you.

A love story in the future that steps back in time… truly stunning tale

I’ve read pretty much every book Samantha Christy has written… nearly every series (except the Mitchell Sisters, strangely enough) and the thing that draws me to her books is how easy it is to engage and identify with her amazing characters. It’s not all billionaires and unreachable expectations… these are normal people with normal lives and beautiful stories to tell.

Every book I read of Samantha’s I get pulled into her world that she has created. There’s enough reference to real life to make it believable without getting bogged down in semantics and details. Not once have I found myself questioning her plots or thinking ‘wait, that doesn’t work!’

This book… wow… it’s everything I hoped it would be and nothing like what I worried it could turn into. By that, I mean that when you read ‘post apocalyptic’ it conjures up images of things like 28 Days Later or The Walking Dead etc. They often focus on the death and destruction and the downfall of humanity as it becomes a dog-eat-dog world full of vigilante gangs, killer viruses and ermmm Zombies! That’s never how I envisioned what would happen. This book, however focused on what I do believe would happen.

With the loss of most power and technology, life resorts back to a time before everything we needed happened at the push of a button. When there was no instant communication. No easy way to travel vast distances or have an endless supply of luxuries and perks. No access to everything that we have taken for granted.

Mikayla Parker, our heroine in this story often talks about Little House on the Prairie and this is definitely what their life becomes after a solar flare wipes out most of the worlds access to power. Makes you realise just how much we rely on it for pretty much everything these days.

She’s a medic in a commandeered military base that has started to become a community. It’s a mix of civilians like her and military personnel. Dr. Kay as she is affectionately known to all the residents is awaiting news of her lost love - Jeff. He’s a surgeon who was serving overseas when the global disaster happens. With no communication- she holds on to the hope that he’s still alive but after a year of hearing nothing, she begins to wonder if she’s holding on to a ghost.

Everything changes when a young sergeant is brought in to the clinic after an accident. He’s badly concussed but alive. Something about the man draws Mikayla to him. Yes, he’s hotter-than-hot, ripped and gorgeous… but there’s something else too. Instantly, Mikayla feels a connection and stays by his side while he recovers.

When he comes round, it’s clear that he has suffered some amnesia and has lost all memory of the last two years. He’s in unaware of the events that have changed the world as he knew it. All he knows is that he was searching for someone - who that is, he’s not sure? Why, is another question?

The immediate connection between Mitch and Mikayla is obvious but Mikayla is holding back her feelings because she promised herself to a man thousands of miles away. He may not even be alive, but until she knows for certain, she struggles with letting him go and letting Mitch in.

Gradually, as they start to get to know each other Mikayla realises that she knows more about the man she met only weeks ago, than the man she shared her life with for five years. They have more in common, they have that easiness to their relationship and the sexual tension between them is like nothing she has ever felt. Reluctantly, in her unread letters to Jeff, she starts to pull away and recognises that she needs to move on… she needs to live and the man she wants to move on with is standing right by her side.

Letting Jeff go is hard, but loving Mitch is the easiest thing she has ever done. They are perfect for each other - but there is that constant worry that when Mitch’s memories return, will he still feel the same. And what will happen if Jeff is still alive?

I’m not going to give away any more because you have to read this story to get all the feels. I love Mitch’s character so much and he is obviously so in love with Mikayla… in love enough to give her up if necessary.

Seriously, I cannot recommend this book enough. I literally could not put it down and the epilogue… although short, was everything I needed it to be. Great lead and supporting characters and a real sense of trying to rebuild life and community in desperate and difficult times.

This would make an amazing movie!! It really would because it’s so real. My heart feels so full, ravaged and beat up but so full and warm and fuzzy after such a emotional ride. Excellent book. Loved it!

Cavemen and things that are meant to be....

I just finished reading this book and wow...where do I begin?

Kay is a Dr. at Camp Brady after a blackout and with only limited supplies and nothing else including no technology, she is determined to help everyone that needs it. She has to keep busy... she has to get through each day while longing for her lost love Jeff. Will he ever return to her? So many have found their way home and so many have lost their lives in the blackout. Is Jeff one of them? She can’t give up hope...

Mitch is on a mission to keep a promise. He has to find her... where is she? 8 months go by and he knows he must be close. She has to be here.... he can’t give up.... He slowly opens his eyes. What happened? Where is he? Then he sees her. Who is this woman? He feels a connection with her but can’t explain it. He has lost 2 years of his life and struggles to remember. How did he get here? Is there such a thing as love at first sight?

Kay can’t explain her draw to Mitch. Why is she having all of these feelings? She can’t allow herself to feel this! She won’t betray Jeff! He will come back to her! Times goes by and she feels something.... lust? Excitement? No! Can’t be. Must be that Mitch reminds her of Jeff. Is it the way he plays a guitar just like Jeff did?

O boy, the story that unfolds will knock your sock’s off ladies. This is an absolute must read. The love... the tears... the laughter... the sacrifices.... omg. They say... if you love something enough, set it free and if it was meant to be yours it will come back to you.

This book will test your limits but so worth it. I sat once gain reading it with a lump in my throat and tears flowing freely. This little review doesn’t do this book justice. Samantha Christy has a talent like no other. Her story’s have so much life in them. Each detail is well thought out. Each character have their own personalities and that’s the way it should be. There is no “wam bam thank you mam” in her books. Every book that I have read thus far, has class.

I love your style of writing Samanatha and I know i have said it before but I guess it could never get old. Right?

I rate this book 5 out of 5 ❤’s

I love the concept of this book - a love story in a post apocalyptic world. Mikayla and Mitch had a great connection and all the feels. The author did an excellent job getting the reader inside all the characters' heads despite the story only being told from Mikayla's POV. In my opinion, that is the sign of a truly good writer. Although I guessed the story's twists early on, I was still moved by Mikayla's and Mitch's reactions and how they chose to handle things.

The writing itself had a few areas that didn't flow smoothly though this was one of the first books Samantha Christy wrote so I suspect that is the reason. My only complaint about the book itself, and why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, is the world building didn't show the severity of the EMP's devastation. Aside from lack of electricity and indoor plumbing, things inside the compound weren't really any different than the outside world nowadays. I think this could have been fixed by having Mikayla go beyond the gates and/or giving more details about what the complex was lacking. For example, were they eating nothing but potatoes most of the time because that was all they could grow and keep for long periods of time? Did they have animals and if so, how did slaughtering them work? Just little stuff like that.

The first book I read of Samantha Christy's was Abstract Love and to this day it remains my favorite; however, despite what I mentioned above, Finding Mikayla gives it a run for its money.

A Perpetual Re-Read

There’s nothing quite so amazing as opening a book and finding an unexpected treasure, a true gem of a love story. Finding Mikayla by Samantha Christy is one of those books. Given a glow-up with a new cover, a new scene or two, and additional editing in 2023, this book is destined to be one of my favorite re-reads when I need a gripping love story of loss, recovery, and perseverance.

Christy builds so many wonderful twists into this novel, all centered around relatable characters in an unimaginable situation. But there’s nothing contrived or far-fetched about how it reads. The dialogue is smooth and authentic, the setting unnerving but not unrealistic, and the characters genuine and absolutely captivating.

Set in a post-EMP world, Finding Mikayla carries an element of sci-fi to the story, but it is NOT the story itself. It’s merely the perfect backdrop for a tale of fate and soulmates. Told in first person POV by the heroine, Mikayla, it carries all the warmth, depth, and details I love in a romance to and through a story I couldn’t get enough of.

No complaints. Didn't realize it only took me 4 days to read. First, I choose this book because my name is in the title. I have to say I wasn't a bit disappointed. This takes place a year after an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) changes the world. A wonderful love story about Mikayla, "Dr. Kay," Parker. She feels a strong attraction to Mitch, who has amnesia. She wonders about Jeff, her boyfriend, who was in Afghanistan when the EMP changed the world. Mikayla and Mitch struggle with their feelings because Mikayla's not sure about Jeff and they're not sure what will happen when Mitch regains his memory and figures out who he was searching for. I picked a lot of details about what happened ahead of time because I am a huge fan of Romance novels, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the book. Definitely considering buying the book. I'll definitely be reading more of Samantha Christy's books.

Wow - just wow. With the apocalypse leaving the earth without power, pockets of survivors are left wondering what happened to those fighting overseas. As a "doctor" at one of the camps, Kay has kept hope alive that the love of her life will make it back to her, but when an amnesia patient ends up becoming so much more she realizes that she needs to put her future in order and forget about the past. Falling in love should be easy, but when her lover comes back it leaves Kay, Mitch and Jeff in a trio they never saw coming. Do you pick the future you have dreamed of? Or do you pick the past which has an uncertain future? Absolutely loved this story. With great characters and an interesting storyline that had more twists and turns that I never saw coming this is a must read.

I absolutely loved this book. It’s kind of scary to think of what would happen if we all would experience that huge EMP like they did in the book. But it’s awesome to think that there would be good people out there watching out for each other. Mikayla just reminds me of a cute next door kind of girl. When Mitch shows up, you can tell instantly there is a spark. A spark that neither one of them can help. Those are the types of books I love to read. Samantha Christy is an amazing author in my opinion. I love all of her books! I suggest if you haven’t read any, be prepared, and start reading!! :)

Amazingly beautiful

There is always a reason why I chose a book to read. Then there is the writer behind the letters that transformed into words that become story to which I read. This book and of course the others that Samantha Christy has written are absolutely fabulous. She has a way of bringing the characters to life. She has a way of pulling you in and becoming that favorite character. Thank you for writing this novel. I cried, I laughed and yelled at the book.
I didn't want to spoil the book by writing a review, all I have to say is just read the book. Don't take my words for it.

Such a pleasure!

When I first started this book, it took me by surprise that it was about an apocalypse. So I didn't get into it as I normally would have. Then once I did start reading, just like all of Samantha Christy books, I could not put it down. I had to find out what happens with Mikayla and Mitch. As you can expect it's not a disappointment. Such a wonderful and eye opening read. The love they find is truly amazing. A great read for anyone looking for the perfect romance!

It had a potential

All was great and tense, sexy and angsty until the epilogue- WTF - why the authors think we want to see everyone move on with the huge bow tied???? The guy didn’t want kids and then had them with the tramp after loosing love of his life???? Really? Like, are you serious? Why would we like it???? I personally hate this need to give everyone happy ending. It is not really doable in the real life in such a simplistic way - oh, well, I just move on to the next available pussy - NOT!!!

Apocalypse Now.

Unusual subject matter but as Samantha Christie is one of my favourite authors I was happy to go out of comfort zone. Loved the subject matter and all the characters. The two main characters had instant attraction but the missing boyfriend kept them at arms length for a while. The plot had some interesting lesser characters, both adult and children The twists and turns kept the plot interesting and the HEA for everybody involved was worth the read. Recommended.

Samantha Christy is amazing but...

I am a huge fan of Samantha Christy but Finding Mikayla didn't hit the mark for me. I wanted so much to like it as I have the last four books of hers I've read. It was an unbelievable story and predictable. No worries because I'll continue to read her books.

Loved the story of Mikayla and Mitch. Was a bit thrown when I started reading it to find out what was going on round them and how they were living. So glad that Jeff came back safe and sound, and him and Holly getting together. Loved the way that Mikayla and Mitch found each other again. Also the names that each couple named their kids. Yet another great book from Samantha Christy.

This book was definitely not what I was expecting. It took me a little while to get into it because of the time period/end of the world feeling I got. But once I adjusted my head I really got into the characters. I ended up having a hard time putting the book down, but it took me by surprise at first.

Survival of Love

This was such a neat take on the falling in love with the best friend trope, having it take place after an apocalyptic event... wow, just wow. Samantha Christy worked out all the fears, guilt, and selflessness that such a situation would engender in a way that leaves the reader feeling every emotion. So well done with an HEA worth it all.

It took me a while to finish because I just couldn't get into the story. I guess it just wasn't believable to me.
However, Samantha Christy is one of my favorite authors, I have read all of her books, this is the only one i didn't like. She is still on my must read, highly recommended authors lists.

Wonderful love story

I enjoyed this story but found it hard to figure out where in time this took place. It was different but still with the element of a love story. Love the Mikayla and Mitch story. It was almost like two different times in possibilities of history that were smoothed together to find this imaginary place in time where the story takes place.

Didn’t Finish

I read a lot of dystopian, sci-fi books, so I was intrigued when Samantha Christy one because I like her other romance books. Unfortunately I couldn’t get past the lack of the world building in this novel. I just couldn’t believe the premise. If you are not a sci-fi fan and are a Samantha Christie fan, you may like this a lot.
