The moment I meet Anna at number 7, I immediately like her. But her husband is staring at me with a strange expression on his face. It sends a shiver down my spine. And then a few days later, Anna is gone…
The second I see the moving van, I rush outside. My husband tells me to give our new neighbours space, but I need to know who they are.
When I see Anna, I’m in awe. Despite the chaos of boxes, she is glamorous, with perfect hair and elegant clothes. But her husband, Fraser, makes me nervous. I can’t explain it, but I don’t trust him.
And when my doorbell camera detects movement in the night, I’m instantly awake. Our road is usually deathly quiet. As I watch, I see Fraser lifting a large bag into his car. And now, Anna has disappeared.
Fraser tells everyone she’s away visiting family, but Anna told me she didn’t have any, it’s why she wanted to make friends here. Then I remember the bruises I saw on her arms…
I am convinced Fraser killed his wife.
The police dismiss me, and my husband tells me to leave it, but I can’t. I have to know what happened to her. But when I uncover the secret hidden inside number 7, the truth is more dangerous than I ever imagined. And now I’m not sure I will make it out alive…
A gripping and page-turning thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Packed with twists, this psychological thriller is perfect for fans of Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid, The Girl on the Train and Colleen Hoover’s Verity.

Miranda has new neighbours, Anna and Fraser. When she greets them she is in awe by Anna and gravitates towards her immediately. The same cant be said for Fraser. He is cold and unwelcoming. One night Miranda witnesses Fraser leaving his home in the early hours of the morning with a large suitcase and it only gets weirder as Anna is now nowhere to be seen. Where has she gone? Miranda is going to get involved and try and solve the mystery.
I am so glad I requested the audiobook on Netgalley when I read the blurb. The narrator did such an amazing job and had me locked in from the jump. I love me a nosy neighbour that doesn’t know how to mind their business and the main character delivered.
I did not see the twist coming and my Flabbers were Ghasted! I truly couldn’t put it down. The book had all the popcorn thriller components. ✔️ Drama, ✔️ Stupid Decisions ✔️ Characters you will love to hate ✔️ Being blindsided
I have read this author works before and I will say I think this is my favourite book by her thus far. Criticisms for this book would be I wish it was more show than tell and it did have some unnecessary fillers that could have been removed for a quicker read, but all in all it was a very enjoyable book.

Becca Day is the undisputed master of domestic suspense.
SOME SECRET WARNINGS ABOUT THIS "SECRET" BOOK: 1) Be prepared for twist after twist after twist after twist! 2) This is NOT your "typical" nosy neighbor book. 3) Just when you think you have everything figured out: You haven't!
Becca Day's writing is sharp and cinematic, instantly pulling you into the storyline.
This relentlessly pacey and riveting thriller is unputdownable, unpredictable. and character-driven.
WHY NOT 5 STARS? Some of the twists push believability, especially the book's final sucker punch.
I listened to the audiobook, expertly narrated by Daphne Kouma and Melanie Crawley.
Both narrators gave outstanding performances.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Couple at Number 7 had an intriguing premise that pulled me in right away. The story kept a steady pace with some well-placed twists, though a few moments felt a little drawn out and required some suspension of disbelief. Still, I found myself invested in seeing how everything unfolded.
The dual narration by Daphne Kouma and Melanie Crawley was a highlight—both brought distinct voices to the characters and kept the tension alive throughout. Their performances made the listening experience a good one, even when the plot slowed.
Overall, a solid domestic thriller with atmosphere, suspense, and strong narration. 3.5 stars rounded up.
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the ARC.
I listened to this audiobook in one day, so the book was definitely entertaining. The narrator who voiced Miranda was very good, the other narrator was just okay.
The book centers around Miranda, a neighborhood busybody who loves spying on her neighbors from her windows and doorbell camera. She sees something one night that makes her think her new neighbor is up to no good. No one believes her at first and as the book continues and Miranda spirals even I started to doubt her. This aspect of the book was well done.
Overall, this book is fast-paced, entertaining, and twisty. I'm not rating it higher because I didn't connect with any character and the main issue could have been solved with some communication.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the ALC.
Oh My Gosh! This book was absolutely insane, packed with action and suspense, and had a wild plot! I was so consumed by this book. The plot unravels fast and everything plays out with great detail, just enough to give you background but not enough to spoil each twist before it happens. I wasn’t sure how this story could end but wow - from start to finish this was one if the best thrillers I’ve read in years! I was terrified of each character at some point because I became so suspicious of who could be trusted and who was just flat out crazy!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This audiobook was gripping and hard to put down right from the start! I maintained my distance, trying to piece together what was really happening across the street. Still, honestly, no one could have guessed the twists in this story!
Miranda develops an immediate liking for their new neighbor, Anna, but feels uneasy around her husband, Fraser. Shortly after meeting her, Anna disappears, and Miranda becomes suspicious. Despite Fraser claiming Anna is visiting family, Miranda remembers the bruises on Anna's arms and believes Fraser may have harmed her. When the police and Lee, her husband, dismiss her concerns, she decides to investigate further. As she uncovers secrets about Anna's disappearance, she realizes the truth is far more dangerous than she anticipated, putting her own safety at risk.
Written in dual perspectives by Miranda and Anna, it offers a thorough exploration of both sides that beautifully come together in the end. This book truly highlights the idea that nothing is quite as it seems. You can’t really judge someone’s life based on mere snippets, as they often lack context. The characters are relatable, wrapped up in deep secrets that slowly unfold as the narrative progresses.
The pacing is quick, and the clever storytelling kept me glued to my earbuds all day. Both narrators were excellent choices with great overall energy, compelling me to finish it in one sitting. The conclusion took me by surprise, with all the twists and turns falling into place beautifully. So pay close attention, as every detail is vital for uncovering the truth behind what really happened to Anna.
If you enjoy suspenseful stories with unexpected endings and some questionable behavior, this book will definitely captivate you. Next time a new neighbor moves in, it’s wise to stay alert because you never know what lies behind closed doors! I hope you enjoy this one!
Thank you, Bookouture Audio, for the digital ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Wow—this book completely caught me off guard! Not because of the twist itself, but because of how much I enjoyed it. I went in expecting a quick, low-stakes “popcorn thriller,” but what I got instead was a tightly woven, engaging page-turner that avoided the usual tropes in such a refreshing way.
I listened to the audiobook, and it was nearly impossible to put down. Narrated by Daphne Kouma and Melanie Crawley, with Kouma carrying the majority of the story, the performance was strong overall. Personally, I connected much more with Kouma’s delivery—her tone and pacing felt perfectly aligned with the story’s energy. Crawley, on the other hand, didn’t quite land for me. Her voice came across as a bit too mature for the character she portrayed, which occasionally pulled me out of the narrative. There were also moments where a slight lispy quality muddied certain phrases. That said, I found that listening at 1.75x not only smoothed over these issues but also heightened my excitement to keep going.
The story itself delivered several clever twists, each adding another layer of tension and intrigue. Even without an ebook copy to compare, the prose felt sharp and well-constructed—no glaring plot holes, just a clean, satisfying thriller. It’s rare to find one that balances suspense and believability this well, and it’s left me eager to dive into more of this author’s backlist.
I was fortunate to receive a complimentary ALC from Bookouture Audio via NetGalley, which gave me the opportunity to share my voluntary thoughts.
How I Rate Because I mostly read ARCs, I focus on how I think fellow readers with similar tastes will respond. I sometimes round up or down based on pacing, prose, or overall impact, and I try to keep my personal preferences from weighing too heavily.
⭐️ 1 Star – Finished, but not for me; I never DNF ARCs. ⭐️⭐️ 2 Stars – Struggled due to writing, content, or editing issues. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 Stars – Decent read with untapped potential; recommend with some reservations. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars – Really enjoyed it and would recommend for several reasons. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars – Exceptional; lingers in my mind well after reading. A story I’d gladly revisit.
The Secret at Number 7 by Becca Day 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (4.5 rounded up) This is a very fun and twisty domestic thriller story! It’s full of drama, excitement and lots of suspense.
Miranda is excited to meet the new neighbors who are moving in and welcome them to the neighborhood. She quickly hits it off with Anna, but not so much with her husband Fraser. The excitement and mystery quickly begins when Anna goes missing.
Thank you to NetGalley for an audio arc of this entertaining story! The narrators did a great job too! The book is very well written and I enjoy how engaging the story is. It made for a fast read/listen.
This is the first book I’ve read from this author, but I’m excited to read more!
*This book comes out September 18th, and I recommend checking it out!!*
A jam packed roller coaster with some serious twists, I have to admit to being a doubtful Debbie in the outset, I expected this to be a domestic housewives type saga, but the author provided so very much more. Highly recommend this one! Twists that I absolutely did not see coming.
Great writing, brilliant story, fantastic dual narration.
Huge thanks to Bookouture audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ALC 🎧
Synopsis: The new neighbors have just moved in—and they’re gorgeous, mysterious, and unsettling in a way that feels just off.
Told through multiple points of view, the story keeps you guessing: Who’s really losing it here? The nosy neighbor? The seemingly abusive husband? A too-close-for-comfort friend? Or someone else entirely?
This is a twisty, scandalous ride that’s hard to put down—perfect for readers who love thrillers you can devour in a couple of sittings.
Narration: Both narrators were engaging and kept the pace moving, though I found Anna’s voice a little older than how I pictured the character. It pulled me out of the story a touch, but not enough to take away from the overall experience.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Bookouture Audio for the chance to listen in exchange for my honest review.
Wow - there were moments in this book that made me literally gasp out loud! I did not see those twists coming. The plot was gripping from start to finish, with writing that pulled me right into that immersive, edge-of-your-seat thriller experience. At one point, I even questioned my own sanity.
I flew through it in under 24 hours - the short, snappy chapters make it impossible to put down. If you’re a fan of fast-paced thrillers, this one deserves a spot high on your TBR!
Huge thanks to Bookouture, NetGalley, and Becca Day for my ARC copy. 🥰🖤
The story opens with Miranda, the kind of neighbor who notices everything. From her window, she watches the new couple move into the house across the cul-de-sac, and before the moving truck even pulls away, she’s at their door, welcome basket in hand, other neighbors in tow. Miranda is instantly captivated by Anna, but her husband, Fraser, leaves a very different impression.
Anna is warm and inviting, quickly drawing Miranda into her world with dinner invitations and spa days. Their friendship seems to form effortlessly, but beneath the surface, Miranda notices troubling signs with bruises on Anna’s arms, and heated arguments drifting through the walls. Then one night, after waking in the middle of the night the sound of her video doorbell catches her attention. On the screen, she sees Fraser struggling to load an oversized suitcase into his car, disappearing into the night only to return soon after. By morning, Anna is gone. Fraser claims she’s visiting relatives, a story that doesn’t add up, since Anna had already confided she had none. Miranda’s suspicions spiral.
The plot delivered several twists I didn’t see coming, and a few quite unique plotlines. I especially liked how the story peeled back the characters’ pasts to show how those histories drove their choices in the present. A few of the women’s actions stretched believability, but not enough to take away from the pace and tension of the thriller.
I listened to the audiobook and thought the dual narrators captured the two characters’ voices perfectly. Overall, this was an engaging, fast-moving read—a solid 4 stars for me.
Many thanks to the author and NetGalley Audio for the advance listening copy in return for my honest review.
If you like to have a lot of drama in your thrillers then this might be the perfect book for you! Fast-paced and full of twists, Becca Day has pulled together a wild story about a woman who believes she's witnessed the aftermath of her new neighbor's murder by the hands of said neighbor's husband — but is that what she really saw? Or is it just her paranoia kicking in and causing her to see clues that aren't actually there?
I found it really easy to fly through this book thanks to the short chapters (I was able to pick it up and get through 2 or 3 chapters whenever I had a spare 15 minutes)! And even though it was a quick read, I think the pacing was pretty on point here. This isn't meant to be an deep-dive crime novel so there wasn't a need to really linger on any of the details — just show us the action!
And although I was able to predict a few of the twists here, I definitely did not predict all of them. So I'll give kudos to the author for taking what I thought was going to be a common trope and putting a new, unexpected spin on it. I also really liked how the whole thing was structured and thought it flowed together really well. The reveals were well-timed and laid out very clearly, so there was no confusion at all.
Now the only reason I'm rating this at 3 stars is simply because there were just a few too many twists for my personal tastes. (But I'll admit I usually prefer my thrillers to be a little more grounded, so take my opinion here with a grain of salt.)
That said, I was still interested enough in the story to want to keep reading and find out all the answers, so that definitely counts for something! If you're one of those readers that usually gravitates towards these quick thrillers, then I'm sure you'll love this one.

Audiobook ARC received via NetGalley. Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio!
From the start, I was invested. Miranda and her husband Lee move with their son to a quieter area after a traumatic break-in. But Miranda, still haunted by anxiety and sleep paralysis, can’t help but watch her neighborhood through the doorbell camera.
When glamorous Anna and her grumpy husband Fraser move next door, things quickly get unsettling. Anna seems warm and eager to make friends, while Fraser is the complete opposite: hostile, controlling, and maybe even abusive. Then one night, Miranda sees Fraser hauling a heavy bag into his car in the middle of the night. The next day, Anna vanishes.
From here, it’s a tense, twisty game of suspicion, paranoia and secrets. Detective “busybody” Miranda takes it upon herself to figure out what happened and I found myself just as hooked as she was.
Tbh, I didn’t know exactly what to expect and that made it even more exciting. At times I thought Miranda was a little (a lot) unhinged and there was even a moment where I thought the story might take a completely different turn. But overall, it kept me invested from start to finish.
The narration was great too, both narrators delivered an engaging performance that made it easy to listen in one go.
A solid 4 star read for me, with a few twists I didn’t see coming… and the ending left me wondering ... 👀 could there be a second book?
While very predictable for a seasoned thriller reader, I still had a lot of fun listening to this. There were plenty of the typical tropes of the “for fans of Gone Girl” novel but I don’t always mind them if they are done well. This was for sure a “page-turner” and I was fully invested in the story and figuring out more of the motivations of the characters so I would definitely recommend to others.
Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture Audio for the ARC of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first read by this author, and it definitely won’t be my last! The suspense had me hooked from the start and kept me guessing the whole way through. Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Becca Day delivers not just one, but multiple jaw dropping twists. The first reveal had me thinking, “How did I not see that coming?” and just when I caught my breath, bam, another twist! Highly recommend picking this one up.
I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing this book as an audiobook. It was packed with unexpected twists—most of which took me completely by surprise, with only one I saw coming. The character development was particularly strong and added depth to the story. I’m giving it four stars due to some repetitive sections that slowed the pacing slightly. Overall, a compelling read that I would definitely recommend.
At 1st I was like ummm! then I was like OK OK SLOW DOWN! BACK UP BACK UP! this was a mess! a good mess!! I didnt wanna stop listening at all i was so upset that it was the end of the book and actually went and listened again to the ending because I was like that went way to fast! Becca Day! always delivering a fast punch!!
Woah woah woah. Didn’t expect that! Figured maybe Miranda was absolutely out of whack but I guess not?? A really fast psychological thriller with twists galore and an unreliable narrator with a major bias. The Crux of the story happened half way and the rest was drawn a bit, but you got a good insight into the characters. I liked the alternating POV.
Thanks for the ARC NetGalley!

Miranda is excited to meet her new neighbors, but while Anna is friendly and pleasant, her husband Fraser gives Miranda the creeps. When Anna disappears, Miranda is worried about the worst having happened.
This was an intriguing thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. I listened to the audiobook which was very well done and kept me engaged.
Tropes: * Missing Person * Nosy Neighbors * Twists and Turns * Questionable choices
This audiobook was very easy to understand and I loved the narration so I highly recommend it, I was trying to do chores while listening and constantly paused what I was doing without realising I was too busy stuck in this book! I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book and I really enjoyed the pacing. Add this one to your TBR right now it was excellent!
This book is about a new couple moving in to the street (Anna & Fraser) and Miranda wants to get to know them. One night Miranda is convinced she saw something horrible happen to Anna and points the finger at Fraser what happens next is truely crazy!!
I absolutely loved the FMC in this one, I related a lot to her thought patterns and the fact she actually made proper steps when she saw weird things (like going to the police station) was so refreshing!! A lot of the mysteries I read tend to have a main character who sees weird things and just ignores them but I loved that Miranda actually did something when she saw something. Then she started to make some really strange choices but I was still there for it even though I was cringing and beyond stressed. I just felt really bad for her no one would listen! It was also good to see some representation of people who freeze instead of the usual “fight or flight” because I also do that and it was represented so well in this book.
My only con of the book was her husband being so dismissive of her feeling, he needs to open his eyes. I just wish he would have listened and something could have been done earlier. I don’t like dismissive partners but I understand in his own way he was trying to be a good dad.
But then OMG THE PLOT TWIST! I nearly put a hole through the floor with how quick my jaw dropped! I didn’t expect that at all! Every chapter I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! I am still in shock! I need time to process this! If you love a high paced book full of plot twist you will not guess this is 10000% the one for you!
Thank you Bookouture Audio, NetGalley and Becca Day for this ALC I enjoyed it so much! This book releases on the 18th of September.

When a new couple moves into Number 7, I’m instantly drawn to Anna—she’s warm, stylish, and everything you’d want in a neighbor. But her husband, Fraser, gives off an unsettling vibe from the start. There’s something in the way he looks at me that sends a chill down my spine. Not long after they settle in, Anna disappears. Fraser claims she’s visiting family—but Anna once confided she didn’t have any. I’ve seen the bruises. I’ve seen the late-night movement on my doorbell camera—Fraser loading something heavy into his car. Everyone, including the police and my own husband, thinks I’m imagining things. But I know something is wrong. I can't shake the feeling that Fraser did something to her. And the more I dig into what’s really going on inside Number 7, the more twisted and dangerous things become. Now, I’m not just searching for the truth—I’m trying to stay alive. This book was an absolute rollercoaster from beginning to end! What started as a seemingly typical domestic thriller quickly turned into something so much more twisted, layered, and jaw-dropping. The suspense builds fast, and I found myself racing through the pages, desperate to figure out what was really going on behind closed doors. At first, it feels like you’ve read this setup before—new neighbors, a paranoid watcher, a missing wife—but then the story flips, and everything you thought you knew unravels. The second part of the book, especially, takes a darker and more disturbing turn. It might not be for everyone, but I personally loved the wild shift in perspective and tone. Some parts were unsettling (in a good way for thriller lovers) and I genuinely didn’t know who I could trust. The tension is constant, and the twists? Let’s just say my jaw was on the floor more than once. That ending left me speechless. If you’re looking for a binge-worthy, can’t-put-it-down kind of thriller that keeps you guessing until the very last page, this one’s for you. It’s twisty, intense, and definitely not your average neighbor drama.
Favorite Quote: “Remember that your thoughts are the primary cause of everything.”
Becca Day’s The Secret at Number 7 is a twisty, psychological domestic thriller that keeps you guessing from the very first page. The story begins when Miranda, a cautious and slightly obsessive neighbor, notices the arrival of a glamorous couple, Anna and Fraser, on her quiet cul-de-sac. While Anna is instantly charming, Fraser gives off a distinctly unsettling vibe. And then Anna disappears.
Miranda, relying on her video doorbell and intuition, suspects the worst. She’s convinced Fraser has harmed his wife—even as the police, and her own husband, dismiss her concerns. As the narrative unfolds, the story flips perspectives, giving us Anna’s point of view and revealing dark secrets that completely upend everything the reader thought they knew.
The suspense is relentless, and the pacing keeps you flipping pages. Becca Day expertly layers paranoia, obsession, and domestic tension, creating a claustrophobic, high-stakes environment in a seemingly idyllic suburban setting. The twists are clever, often shocking, and the climax leaves a lasting impression—though some readers might find the second part darker and more disturbing than expected.
While the story is compelling, a few elements may feel familiar—neighbors, a missing spouse, the watchful observer—but Day injects originality with the dual perspectives and the gradual unraveling of hidden motives. Some characters can be hard to like, and Miranda’s obsession may frustrate certain readers, yet these traits also heighten the psychological tension and unpredictability.
Overall, The Secret at Number 7 is a binge-worthy thriller that balances suspense, shocking twists, and psychological depth. Fans of domestic thrillers like The Woman in the Window or The Girl on the Train will find themselves captivated by this story of trust, secrets, and the darkness lurking behind closed doors.
Favorite Quote: "Remember that your thoughts are the primary cause of everything."
Verdict: A fast-paced, twisty, and unsettling thriller that will leave you second-guessing everyone on the block—highly recommended for thriller lovers.
Honestly, I have read a lot of books with the neighbor-is-suspicious theme, but I usually have some bone to pick with those stories. Either some character is doing some unrealistic activities or is getting away with too much, a character is too much of a doormat or does not critically think, or some close-to-impossible scenarios are happening, and that kind of takes away from the story for me.
But with this book, even though I was able to predict the twist, the circumstances surrounding the twist were still a surprise. I liked the main character and the supporting characters, and the way the villain/s were made out to be - with just the right amount of humanity and "evil" in them. I related a lot to the main character and felt like I would have done the same given the situations, because I am paranoid like that as well. Let's be honest, most of us are. The use of the doorbell app is a fun central point of this story, a very apt symbolism for times today. I like how there are certain surprising themes that also emerged from the book such as the kind-of locked-in syndrome experience, and the type of relationship of the villains. I don't want to say more so I won't spoil anything. The dual POV also helped put together all the pieces of the puzzle, leaving you with no questions about the story... well, at least, until the end.
This is my first time hearing an audiobook, and I didn't know what to expect, but the narrators made the experience so, so exciting! I feel the emotions, the excitement and the despair. I listened to it everywhere I am.
Overall, nice, chill, suspense thriller book. :) Would recommend!
ARC received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
What would you do if, one night, you woke up and saw your neighbor loading a large suitcase into the trunk of his car? When it then turns out that you can no longer reach his wife Anna and he clearly gives you a lame excuse, would you, like Miranda, suspect that he had murdered Anna? Or would you pretend nothing was going on because you feared you wouldn’t be taken seriously?
I thought this was an excellent book! It is written very smoothly and is highly captivating. Of course, you draw your own conclusions and follow Miranda’s line of thought completely, just as the author intended. She lures you in like a spider into her web and then plays with you until she lays out the whole story and you think, Oh My God!
There have been many different motives given in various stories for the villains, but I have to admit I had never come across this one before. Bonus points for originality! :)
I thought Miranda was a fantastic character. She is constantly keeping an eye on the street, which many would see as spying on her neighbors, but I could understand why she did it. She clearly had no bad intentions, and I felt a lot of sympathy for her. She was certainly not always treated fairly by the people around her.
What at first seemed to me like a fairly straightforward story, turned into a class VI white water river by the end.
I truly, phenomenally enjoyed this book and was once again stunned at how far some people will go to achieve their goals.
I can hardly wait to get my hands on another book by this author, because if her writing continues to be of this caliber, she will quickly climb high on my list of favorites. 5 stars
The Secret at Number 7 has the makings of a compelling psychological thriller. The eerie setting, emotionally charged relationships, and believable—but sometimes underexplored—characters create a taut reading experience. Still, the story occasionally undercuts its own momentum with uneven pacing and conventional twists.
If you’re drawn to slow-burn domestic suspense where the uncanny lurks behind close-knit façades, there’s a solid spine here. But if you’re seeking deeply layered characters or narrative surprises that completely defy expectations, you might find the experience a bit mild.
The narrative can be immersive—especially for fans of domestic suspense—but moments of unbalanced pacing and predictability slightly dim the overall impact.
Miranda, a relatable yet curiously bold protagonist—perhaps a bit too eager to pry, but that urgency powers the suspense. Her instinctive gut reaction to Anna feels authentic, and the mounting internal conflict when her husband urges restraint adds depth to her moral compass.
Anna, enigmatic and seemingly effortless in her allure—glamorous, refined, and exuding confidence. But beneath that poised surface lies a fragility hinted at through subtle cues (like bruised arms), the suitcase, and disappearance.
What threw me for a loop was the major twist in this book that I can’t quite discussion without giving it all away BUT eww. Not the type of book I thought this would turn into and not a big fan; gave cringy vibes and quickly became uninterested, thanks Anna.
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my own, honest opinion. I did enjoy the narrator for this audiobook.
The Secret at Number 7 is a deliciously tense psychological thriller that kept me hooked from the first unsettling encounter to the final jaw-dropping twist. Becca Day has a gift for turning quiet suburban streets into hotbeds of suspicion, secrets, and simmering dread—and this book is no exception.
The story unfolds through the eyes of a narrator who becomes increasingly obsessed with her glamorous new neighbour, Anna. But when Anna vanishes and her husband Fraser offers a suspiciously tidy explanation, the narrator’s instincts kick in. What follows is a gripping descent into paranoia, obsession, and the kind of domestic darkness that makes you question everything—and everyone—behind closed doors.
Day’s writing is sharp and immersive, with a creeping sense of unease that builds beautifully. The pacing is spot-on, and the twists are genuinely gasp-worthy. I especially loved how the story plays with perception—what we think we know, what we choose to ignore, and what we’re willing to risk for the truth.
If you enjoy thrillers like None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell or The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, this one will absolutely hit the mark. It’s unsettling in the best way, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages.
With thanks to Becca Day, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
*ARC REVIEW* This story centres around two couples. We have Miranda and Lee who moved to the suburbs with their small son after a break-in at their London flat. Miranda struggles with anxiety and sleep paralysis due to the events of that night, so now she watches her neighbours (a little obsessively) through her doorbell camera. And we also have Anna and Fraser, the new couple who have moved into the street. It's told in three parts. First, from Miranda's POV. She becomes friends with Anna, but finds Frances a little rude. She sees bruises on Anna's arms and starts thinking Frances is an abuser. So when she spots him on the camera at 3am, lugging a very large and heavy suitcase to the boot of his car, she is certain her friend is in there. This leads to her going to the police and slowly starting to unravel, as she believes that Frances is after her too. The second part is from Anna's POV, and we get a completely different version of the story as it unfolds. And we go back to Miranda for part three. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and I admit I also often find myself distracted by watching neighbours on my camera 😅. Although not quite as obsessively as Miranda. This was a fast-paced and twisty read that was well-written and had me hooked from the start. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I chose this book to read because I liked the author's name and the title. It was a great choice because this book was fantastic for readers who like psychological thrillers that keep you guessing all the way through!
Miranda and Lee live on the cul de sac on a nice little street with their small son, Mason. Paranoid from a previous break in at their prior home, Miranda relies on her Ring camera to alert her of any unusual action going on around her house. Anna and Fraser move into Number 7, next door to Miranda and Lee. Miranda is instantly taken with Anna, but she gets bad vibes from Fraser that worsen when she hears her new neighbors argue their first night in their home. She and Anna quickly become friends. And then one night Miranda is alerted to something happening outside. She checks out her app and observes Fraser leaving his home with a heavy suitcase. He returns shortly and is empty handed. Anna is nowhere to be found.
Miranda's desperation mounts as she searches for Anna. Is she paranoid and loosing her mind, or did Fraser hurt her new friend? This book is definitely a page-turner with some fun twists that you won't see coming. You may just have to pick your jaw up off the floor a few times!

In a story reminiscent of the classic Hitchcock movie Rear Window, a young woman living in a secure cul-de-sac with friendly neighbours likes to keep an eye on their activities through her doorbell camera.
When a glamorous couple moves in next door, Miranda is as charmed by her new neighbour Anna as she is suspicious of Anna's husband Fraser and the finger-shaped bruises she soon spots on her new friend's body.
Because while Fraser behaves in a very open and friendly manner with Miranda's husband Lee, he seems borderline hostile towards her - to an extent that simply cannot be ignored.
And when Miranda spots Fraser dragging a heavy suitcase into his car in the early hours of the morning just before Anna disappears, she cannot rid herself of the notion that her friend has been murdered by her husband...
But is that in fact the case? Or is Miranda being paranoid because of the trauma she still carries from the break-in years ago at her own home, when she and Lee still lived in London?
This is a twisty story, and will keep the reader's attention well occupied. Definitely one to check out, and the narrator does a fantastic job of voicing the various characters in the audio book, if that is your preferred mode of book purchasing.
