This is a very real story that readers become part of. The sweet romance combined with the hardships of life was very well done. The lives of the rich and famous combine with hometown families and pride in a way that tugs at your heart. I love the focus on women in sports, a very underappreciated and underexposed focal point for novels. The contrast between men’s and women’s pro football was quite poignant. Arden, writing with her usual well-polished, light-hearted style combines this all into an unforgettable package.

The main characters in this novel definitely carry the story well. The heroine’s hopes and fears define who she is and how she lives her life. I really enjoyed seeing our hero remember his roots & what made him who he is today. These aspects not only define who these characters are as individuals, but also how they come together as a couple. Their mutual histories are also quite intriguing, allowing readers to understand how these individuals came to be who they are today. The supporting cast in this novel was quite well developed as well. I enjoyed getting to know them in the context of their relationships with the main characters. The local slang is apparent in the dialogue and flows naturally. It definitely adds to the entire aura of the story and to how readers perceive these individuals.

This is definitely another winner from Arden. It is a great start to a fantastic new series that I’m very excited about.

What Happens:
Tanya loves her fathers’ gym and when she finds out her father used his money to help her mother instead of saving his gym she’s devastated. Now she has to come up with a way to save her fathers’ gym without owing anyone money ever again. That’s where Cam comes in. Having spent his childhood at Tanya’s fathers’ gym growing up and he’d do anything to help out, so he sets up a charity that will bring in enough money and then some to save it.

The Characters:
Tanya is definitely a flawed but strong female character. She plays sports and works at the school as a gym teacher. However, she doesn’t believe that love can do anything besides hurt. Tanya had been in love with Cam since she was a kid and when he left without a word it hurt her. When he comes back she tries to put a distance between them since she doesn’t want to get hurt again, but that doesn’t work for long.

Cam came home for one reason and that was to convince his mother to move out of their small town and move to the city with him so he can take care of her. Except she doesn’t want to leave and now he has the whole summer to convince his mom to move and help Tanya out. When he realizes that he’s the one who has Tanya jaded and man hating he knows he needs to fix it no matter what.

The Romance:
Wow, totally swoon worthy hotness is all I have to say. Tanya and Cam are both hot for each other right from the get go. Tanya and Cam lost their virginity to one another and Cam needs to prove he’s gotten a lot better at the sexy times. It’s cute once the two finally give into each other how they can barely keep their hands off one another. Locker room anyone?

Overall:
I enjoyed this book. I’m not huge into sport romances, but I do love a strong female lead who grows into her own as the story goes on and a hot guy who really sweet. The story flowed really well and I enjoyed reading from both characters perspectives. I did find this story a bit predictable which is why I couldn’t give this story a higher rating. Other than predictability I thought this book was a cute quick read.

Looking for a Sports romance to read this Summer season ? Are you a fan of the Crimson Romance books ? Running Interference has the perfect mixture of Sports and Romance as well as showing that when it comes down to the crunch, families are still important - no matter what happens and that sometimes what you can consider as family - can move outside of the boundaries of blood relatives. Growing up Tanya fell in love with Cam , but with life happening they broke up and Cam went off to play with the big leagues in the Super Bowl and was also awarded an MVP award. Now back home to try and talk his mother into moving out of the neighbourhood and into something a bit more flashier, Cam arrives back to his hometown. The one thing that Cam didn't count on though is literally crashing into Tanya - his high school sweetheart. Tanya is on her way to her father's gym and is about to discover that they may lose the gym since her father is behind in bills after giving his ex-wife a $30,000 loan. Seeing as he cares about Tanya and this gym was where he discovered his love of sports, he wants to help but of course Tanya's father is as stubborn as Tanya and won't give into accepting charity. As the story flows on, we see Cam stop by the high school where Tanya is the PE Teacher and sparks do fly between Tanya and Cam despite how much Tanya wants to deny it. As the two start to work together finally in order to raise and save the gym that they both love, they rekindle reluctantly at first their romance but what happens when it's time for Cam to resume his "normal" life ? Will he up and leave Tanya again or will they discover that he can't live without her ?

So if you are in the mood for a bit of Sports and alot of Contemporary Romance and getting down and dirty, then check out Running Interference by Elley Arden.

There's something about first. First crush, first kiss, first love, first ... ahem-you know. Tanya Martin and Cam Simmons shared a few of those. In fact, being close friends, they shared a lot, until Cam got drafted into the NFL and quit calling or coming around. But, five years later, he returns to his old neighborhood and immediately runs into Tanya. And with one look at each other, all those past feelings spark up again.

I'm a sucker for second chance romances and Running Interference did not disappoint. This is my first Elley Arden read and I can guarantee it won't be my last. She has a unique writing style. Simple, yet strong with fluid and easy dialogue, you can't help but dive in and not come up until you're finished. I loved the way she brought the glamour of being a pro-athlete down to a normal perspective. Any woman would fall in love with Cam. Rich, smooth and super sexy, he's a total package, but in a down-to-earth way. His and Tanya's rapport makes the closeness of their past friendship fully understandable. Also making you realize Tanya's apprehension for any feelings she might have. Tanya herself is a unique character and another aspect of the story I enjoyed. Also an athlete, she's a mentally and physically strong woman who has her act together. She's not the needy or fickle type who's in search of someone to make her life complete. She has what she needs- family, friends, a good job and sports. Or at least that's what she believes until Cam enters her life again.

Flirty, fun, and emotionally driven, Running Interference is the first installment of a new series, The Cleveland Clash. It's not only a story of a second chance at love, but a tale of family, friendships and finding out where you belong.

I love sports romances and this book not only has a female athlete as the heroine, she’s also playing a non-traditional female sport – football – which I just love! And throw in the fact that the hero is also a professional football player – an MVP at that – and that the book centers around saving the heroine’s father’s boxing gym, and there was all sorts of fun, sporty, sweaty goodness happening here. Add to it that this is a second chance romance that also has a best friends to lovers theme, and this was one happy girl.

When Cam left the old neighborhood, he slowly cut ties to everything back home – including the ties to his best friend Tanya. Tanya has never forgiven Cam for breaking her heart, and now that he’s come back to town in the off-season even all that hurt can’t cover up the intense attraction these two have for each other. And when Tanya’s dad needs help saving his gym, Cam insists on helping any way he can – even if it means being the main attraction at a bachelor auction to raise funds.

One of my favorite things about this book has to do with the deep family connections that both Tanya and Cam have. Even though both haven’t had perfect childhoods – Cam’s is still dealing with his father abandoning the family and Tanya is still trying to bring her parents together even though they've been divorced for years – you can really feel all the love in these families. And once more of the story behind each of these families was revealed, it just made me love them more. Traditional or not, these families embodied all the important aspects of being a family.

This was a good quick read that had some heat and some sweet, and even some laughs. A definite must read for any sports romance fans!

Sports Romances are not something that I normally gravitate to. However, Running Interference surprised me. In this fast moving novel by Elley Arden, I found the ease of the writing fresh. The story was written in a way that made me feel like I was a fly on the wall of the characters lives or watching it all play out on TV.

Tanya Martin and Cam Simmons are old friends with a past. Cam broke Tanya’s heart once upon a time and she has never truly forgiven him for that. Though their lives could not be more different, these two share a history. They have a pull and as the two are brought together to save Tanya’s father gym, the sparks fly. The question is will Tanya get out of her own way in order to realize that love may be worth the risk?

Though I had an inkling of what would happen in the end, I didn’t feel as it took away from the story. The characters, both leading and side, were well developed. In fact, I loved the strength that Tanya and the other women in the story have. There is something about them that make you want to cheer on the side lines. They bring to the table everything the men in this book do, but then just a little more that is so uniquely feminine. I know that it sounds like I am going to go on a feminist side rant, but I just enjoyed reading about women who own who they are. It is a pattern that I have seen more and more in Romances lately, and I hope that it keeps up.

If you are looking for fun read with some steam, this book might be worth a read. If you are a fan of Romances with athletes, then I say definitely pick this one up. Running Interference is a sports story with heart…and who doesn’t love that?

This story begins with Superbowl MVP Cam Simmons
returning to his hometown of Cleveland. He catches up with his former best friend Tanya Martin, of the newly made female football team Cleveland Cash.

The two of them have a lot of history, including the
personal history of the intimate kind. She is angry with him at first - for staying away for so long -5 years and no contact. Not even a Christmas card.

Cam cannot stay away from Tanya and basically follows her until she agrees to let him back in as a friend. The attraction is still there but Tanya has been hurt and is so hesitant and scared that Cam knows he must go slow with her or lose all he has gained back.

Tanya is a little upset to find Cam is everywhere! At the family owned gym, the school where she works, the restaurant her mother owns, just everywhere!
Cam does not want her to cut him out anymore and works overtime to get back in her good graces.

Finally, she gives in to the chemistry between them and he is so grateful to be intimate with her once more. To show her how much she means to him. Tanya tells him she just wants to be friends with benefits.

They both realize they have feelings for one another
and are both struggling with how to handle it. Tanya is afraid to get to close with him going back to Boston soon.

Cam is afraid to offer more when she has a life in
Cleveland and he has a life in Boston. How do they bring it together and make a life that is in both places? Is what they feel enough to make a future?

I love the idea of a book series set around a women's football team--awesome!--and think the cover for this one is fantastic. The basic plot contains one of my favorite troupes--friends to lovers. All good things!

I liked Cam's character a lot--he tried to do the right thing for his family, especially his mom, and even though he initially had major misgivings about the hometown he'd left without a backward glance he stepped up in the end and really did some good. He was more than a little dense at times--not realizing why his former bestie might hold some resentment after she was dropped like a hot potato, for instance, or that their "no strings" agreement to be each other's first might actually have some implications--but overall he was a nice guy and a decent hero.

Tanya's heart was definitely in the right place, wanting to save her father's gym and keep her family together, but she was far too willing to exploit her former best friend to do so. Sure, the business is a part of her legacy, and yeah, the guy had acted insensitively, but that didn't quite justify her actions here.

They say that all's well that ends well, though, and the way the hero and heroine finally get together in the end is very cute. All the major problems are nicely wrapped up. Altogether it was a decent read--though it didn't quite work for me, I'm interested to see how the rest of the series shapes up.

Being a sports and outdoor enthusiast myself, and my hubby being one as well, I enjoy a good sports based romance once in a while. This book has both parties of the romance being huge sports buffs, so this was as if I were reading about my hubby and I, except insert caving and climbing in where they are American football players.

I thought this book was very real. All of the issues, emotions and conversations were very relatable and the characters were easy to connect with. This made it very easy to enjoy the book and to feel as though I were connecting with it, and a part of the story.

I really liked the main characters. They were strong, independent and had the best intentions in all aspects of their decisions. They were true sports characters, as they were wholly connected to their sport and had a real dedication to both their teams and their training.

I liked that the romance wasn’t just a wow I like that person, nothing happens and BAM they’re together. There was a steady progression in the relationship. Though both sides had feelings for the other, they slowly moved toward coming together, with the emotions building and feelings becoming stronger as they went along.

As the book started to build, I found myself more and more intrigued and connected to the story. By the end, I was addicted and couldn’t put it down. I cannot wait to read more. This book is one that any sporty romance reader would really enjoy.

I’m sucker for sport romances. I love having the authors set us up in the world of major league baseball, basketball, soccer, and of course Football, but through in a female athlete and I am hooked, lined and sinkered. I also enjoy the slow buildup with characters and relationships. I hate instalove. Friends being lovers? Yeah love it. Makes me scream in frustration when I want them to just jump that line, but also warms my insides having their hesitations and all those new feelings (or old feelings coming back or getting stronger).
Running Interference gave me all that and more. Tanya and Cam were bestfriends for years, until Cam left for the big leagues and became a Pro Football player. But he’s back for a visit, and both their worlds are turned up side down. Cam left trying to help his family, and the way he handled it was all wrong, but he’s trying to make up for those wrongs. Tanya is to afraid of the “what ifs” and honestly who could blame her? She was left behind feeling unwanted and unloved. Her bestfriend dropped her like she meant nothing. That has to hurt.
I found myself rooting along with Cam, but also feeling Tanya’s hesitation and hurts. Cam was a great character to read, if not a little ditzy at times. I mean come on how could you not understand why Tanya was hurt and mad by you leaving the way you did? And not trying to keep in touch.
All in all its a good read.

I received a copy of this book from Reading Addiction Virtual Book Tours in exchange for an honest review and as part of the book's blog tour promotions.

I've read my fair share of sports romances. Some of them I actually enjoyed a lot. However, there aren't many novels where both the hero and heroine are athletes. This book is double the fun when it comes to athletes.

The first half of the book wasn't as good as the second half. It was still good, but I started enjoying the book was I got past 50%. At first, I found it hard to like the hero. Then, there was this thing where I felt like the heroine was being too easy on him.

The best part of the book was the bachelor auction because what the hero did was sweet, and the heroine finally owning up to her feelings was a nice scene too. This is my first book from this author, and I've enjoyed it so far.

Fans of contemporary romance and sports romance will definitely enjoy this book. There is no heavy conflict. No kidnapping, no physical abuse, no dark past or history. Just plain romance with a touch of zing to get your imagination fired up.

Great Story Tanya Martin is a gym teacher by day and wide receiver for the Cleveland Clash by evening. When she runs into her ex-best friend (and secret love) Cam Simmons, a Superbowl champion and MVP, on the same day as she finds her father’s gym in financial trouble, her day can’t get much worse. When Cam keeps showing up everywhere Tanya is, she’s at a loss on how to shake him. Cam knows he made a mistake by ignoring Tanya for so long. Now that he’s in Cleveland for a few weeks, he must figure out a way to make amends and maybe get her to accept him in a whole new light.
This was a quick read and good story. It was easy to see why Tanya felt the way she did. Watching her fall for Cam all over again and trying to stay strong while trying to save her father’s business was something worth reading. All of the characters were well written. I enjoyed reading about them as Cam and Tanya dealt with being reunited and re-learning each other all over again.
I highly recommend to anyone that likes strong heroines  and contemporary books with a sports theme.

Running Interference is a quick read friends to lovers story. Tanya and Cam grew up together and were best friends. They have lost touch since Cam became an NFL superstar. After winning MVP at the Superbowl, he has come back to town for a visit. Tanya is wary of his intentions and tries to keep him at a distance, I liked this story for the most part. I could understand Tanya's hesitation on wanting to get involved with Cam. Five years is a long time to not communicate with your supposed best firend. Why all of a sudden now? But, I did think Cam did a good job of convincing her to take a chance on him. I liked their HEA.

I know this is the first in a new series, but at times I felt like there was more behind some of the peripheral characters. The series is an off-shoot of her Kemmon Brothers Baseball series. I think some of the characters show up in that one. I'll have to hunt them down and check those out as well.

Running Interference was a good, quick read in the friends-to-more trope set in the backdrop of football (both traditional and women's). Having both the male and female lead characters as professional football players lends a touch of uniqueness to the story.

Cam, our lead male, is a classic male athlete who has a soft spot for family and for taking care of where he comes from. I really liked his character the best of the cast in this story. The leading lady, Tanya, was a little hard for me to connect with but I can't quite put my finger on why. It did bug me a little that she was quick to think of ideas that would use Cam to her advantage (well, to her father's gym's advantage).

The first half of the story moved slower for me than the last half did, and the best scene of the book was definitely the bachelor auction at the end.

I'd recommend this to those who like their sports romances (especially football), and who'd like a quick romance to fill their weekend.

This is the first I have read from Elley Arden and have to say I loved it. The whole woman football player up against the male hot sexy MVP was exciting. I loved the love hate relationship they had but one hot tumble in bed changes everything. The attraction has been brewing between them for five years and man when it explodes it`s hotter than ever. I loved how Elley was able to get them into a situation where they have no control over yet when they come together its hard to imagine they were ever separated. The attraction they have for one another is like it`s always been there and now is stronger than ever. Loved it and can`t wait for more from this series.

This was a different kind of love story with a sports themed storyline. I liked the premise and the back story. An elite athlete who was once at the top of her game in college, gave up her desires to succeed in WNBA to help her family's legacy. The Superbowl MVP was also from the same town and a friend. When Mr MVP returned home to convince his mother to leave the old neighborhood and move to Boston with him, he did not expect to fall for his friend again, and have a change of heart about leaving his home town without his girlfriend, and new love. Their time together during the off season revealed their time as friends meant more, they each wanted more from one another. Running interference was a sweet love story.

Minor spoilers!!

Tanya and Cam are both athletes that grew up together but eventually drifted apart as Cam's football career kept him busy. They run into each other when they're around 27 and despite Tanya resisting, they start spending time with one another. They spend time working out at the gym, at the high school with students, and at some favorite local restaurants. They try to find different ways to save her dad's gym while figuring out how to maintain as few of strings as possible between each other. Overall, a good read with some great side characters. The auction was quite a humorous and fun way to end the story.

I enjoyed this book from Elley Arden quite a bit. It had a new spin on the sports love story angle since both the main characters were athletes & I liked that a lot. The first part of the book dragged just a bit for me but the second part was amazing. I am looking forward to the next the in the Cleveland Clash series. This was the first book I read by Elley Arden but I will be reading more.
