Primani #5

Darkness Calling

Rate this book
Book Five in the Primani Series. This darkly intense story is a standalone in the urban fantasy romance series.

Finally freed from a century in purgatory, former-wild child Aisling just wants to raise her son and live as a normal human again. Her demon hunting days are over. Her taste of freedom is cut short the moment her past comes searching for her. There’s a reason she was exiled, and his name is Cain. He is the one demon she couldn’t kill. One she couldn’t resist, didn’t resist. With him, there was only darkness, and the angels help her, she liked it that way. Now he’s back to keep her on a short leash. His commands are simple. Stay away from Sean or else. But when he threatens to take her son, she turns to the one man who can save them both. Sean.

Primani Sean is sick and tired of his baby mama’s hateful attitude. He’s been more than fair for five years. Her mood swings give him whiplash, and he’s seriously thinking of strangling her. But when a brutal old enemy shows up to destroy everyone Sean loves, he discovers Aisling is hiding more than her feelings for him. When the ice finally thaws, he’s stunned to realize how she calls to the darkness within him.

Joining forces to protect their son, Sean and Aisling set out on a journey that leads them from the city streets of Manhattan to the elegant hotels of Vienna to the final terrifying showdown in Rome.

I've been stalking this author for a while and finally decided to dive into one of her books in the Primani series... I was in the mood for something a little dark and edgy and this hit the spot!
Even though this is book five it can be easily read as a stand alone. I liked this one so much that I'm definitely going to go back and read the previous installments.
The Primani are humans who have been gifted immortality by the angels... you know... the big guys upstairs we know as Gabriel, Michael and Raphael. The Primani are trained to guard and protect humanity against demons who are hiding and masking themselves amongst humans for evil purposes.
There are many layers to this story but the primary focus is on the character Aisling. The story flips back and forth from past to present as we learn about Aisling's journey to becoming Primani and the unfortunate circumstances of her previous life and her new eternal one. The present Aisling is without a doubt a cast iron B***ch. But as the story of her past unfolds it becomes clear as to why. She was the unfortunate pawn in the games being played between angels and demons.
Next we have Sean. Sean is also a Primani and he has a love/hate relationship with Aisling. They have a child together but tension between them is high. Aisling is always pushing him away but clearly she has deep feelings for him. They find themselves forced together to hunt a powerful demon who is determined to destroy his family.
Cane, the demon they are hunting, is powerful, seductive and dangerous. He was an intriguing character that was the perfect combination of beautiful but deadly.
This story was dark, edgy and suspenseful. There were some very emotional scenes but then the author would stick in a scene that had me laughing out loud. When Aisling and Sean finally come together... they bring down the walls... literally! Most entertaining sex scene I've read in a while... :)
I loved how this couple slowly came back together and gave into their feelings and desires for each other. Sean was so good for her and helped her find a path back to hope and happiness. My favorite quote in the book:

Just as she closed her eyes, he whispered, "I might not be a demon, but I'll still take your soul." He buried his nose in her hair, and promised, "The difference is I'll treasure it."

**LOVE** :)))

If you love PNR but you like to have an edge of darkness... I would definitely recommend this one. It's very well written, engaging and has some very intriguing characters.

Looking forward to more from this author...

Holy hell this book is HAWT!!! The sex scenes made me sweat … besides that … here’s my review:
Can I give more than 5 stars? No? Damn - Oh how I’ve been waiting for Sean & Aisling’s story. Like Romeo & Juliet – if Romeo & Juliet wanted to kill each other – I’ve been anxiously anticipating where Laurie would take this story line. These two Primani have a son together and have been trying to maintain the peace while raising him to be the warrior he is meant to be – and trying not to choke each other. Here we get Aisling’s backstory. I have to admit in the beginning of the book I really didn’t think there was any way Aisling could redeem herself. No matter what Sean does she is just so aggressive (and blatantly mean) towards him – which is really annoying, as I adore Sean (all the boys really). When she is called a bitch I can’t help but agree. Until we hear her story which takes you on an emotional roller coaster of grief, blame, sadness, sensuality and eventually, hope. She is so strong it makes you fall in love with her completely.
We also get to hear how Sean became a Primani and how he came to be the man he is. And how can you not love this man. No matter how many knocks he takes he just keeps getting back up. His no nonsense attitude and willingness to say what he thinks no matter the consequences is brilliant. Like Dec, he also has the ability to make me powerlaugh which I love as well.
Not only is this book HOT but it also brings out so many emotions as you become emotionally invested in each character. But the sex … holy hell the sex made my eyes water, my face blush and I’m pretty sure I was panting a couple of times.
Alexandyr & Dimitri are intriguing characters who I hope we eventually see more of! Gabriel and Raphael also make appearances and I will always love Raphael – and Gabriel pisses me off to no end.
There is just so much awesomeness in this book and it will leave you wanting so much more!

I received an ARC from the author of this book for an honest review.
Holy hell!!!! Laurie Olerich has done it again! Through the entire series, I have had a soft spot for Sean! As the series went on, all I wanted was for him to find happiness. Aisling..... total bitch! Never thought she was good enough for Sean! Until I found out why she was so mean and bitter. She softens up, and I am so happy to say, her and Sean are perfect together! This series keeps on getting better, and I will be so sad when it comes to an end! Somehow I feel that Laurie will make it close out perfectly though! Hopefully not too soon though :)

I have to admit that when I started this book, I didn't expect to love it. I thought I would like it but hadn't been a fan of Aisling from previous books and since she was our lead character, I didn't think I would love it. Just shows you how much I know! She was a very compelling character. Getting her story, figuring out why she behaved as she did left me no choice but to love her.

Sean has always been a favorite character and that didn't change in this story. I find him yummy and fun. And he is still yummy and fun.

When these two get together, sparks fly.

Add to the mix their young son Sean Michael and it left me crying and hoping for more of the story.

It was fun to see more of Rafael and to get to know Gabriel better. The archangels make for some interesting story telling.

Laurie has really well thought out characters and a wonderful flowing storyline that moves seamlessly between books. Very glad I found her work!

WOW!!! This was so worth the wait! Sean and Aisling are perfect! Their stories are riveting! I re-read the book as soon as I finished it the first time, it was that good. The plot keeps you on the edge of your seat and is full of twists and turns. The characters in the Primani series are so well developed, each book is like visiting old friends. You can't help but get invested in the characters. All the books in the series are great reads and ones you can read over and over again.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author.

I will admit, I'm not a big Sean fan and was a little bit wary of being able to get into this book, but from page one, I couldn't put it down. Aisling's story is so emotional and raw, I ached for her as it unfolded. Sean also redeemed himself in my eyes throughout this book, despite his childishness, his stead fast (sometimes misguided) sense of loyalty won me over in the end.

The writing in this book is degrees above the first book I read in this series. The way the author describes the scenes, emotions and thoughts of the characters makes you believe you are right there, just watching it all unfold. This is a book I will absolutely read again.

Darkness Calling is the fifth book in the Primani series. I didn't like Aisling in book four very much since she appeared to always be on the attack. I knew there was a story behind all that bi*chiness though and man was it ever! Aisling's story is dark, sensual, guilt ridden and extraordinarily emotional. Sparks fly between Sean and Aisling in bad ways and in oh so good ways too. Of course it goes without saying that it gets deliciously steamy between Sean and his baby mama! This is such an addicting series as Laurie Olerich really knows how to build a fantasy world with incredibly intriguing and hot characters that draw you into their world! I was given this copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I got an autographed copy of Darkness Calling in one of the Goodreads giveaways, and am I ever glad I did! This is the first of Laurie Olerich's Primani series that I have read, and it was well worth the read. Now I know that I MUST read all of the other books in this series. Laurie definitely has a new fan, and I would rank her in my top ten amongst such other urban fantasy authors such as Laurell K. Hamilton, Jeaniene Frost and Kim Harrison. If all of the Primani are like Sean, then I am in love! Aisling is a kick ass heroine with a temper and a wit to match. Can't wait to find out about the others!

If you are an urban fantasy fan, grab this book! You won't regret it.

OMG!! Another fantastic book!!
This is book five in the Primani Series. Finally we get to know why Aisling is such a bitch in the other books. She has had it rough since she's been made by the Archangel Gabriel. Made out of regret because he killed her father and two brothers when he was toying around with a demon.
We find out how she was vaporized. We find out the biggest reason why she was involved with the Angel Slayer himself.
Im glad it has a HEA. I couldn't bear her and Sean not being together with their son Sean Michael.
Can't wait for the next book as always... It's going to be bitter sweet seeing as it is the last book in the series!!

I believe this is book five in the Primani series- It is a classic Angle/Demon story and it has the tension you would expect and want in a series like this. I have not read the previous books so it was easy to pick up and read as a stand alone. After this life and death struggle to protect the child they have together. Their love/hate relationship brings on some very hot scenes when they are forces together. If you like dark paranormal you will love this book.

Good read

Sean and Aislings story was pretty good. Love how Dalmatians are demon detecting dogs throughout the entire series. There are still parts that I have to reread several times and still don't get it till down the story road. But still a page turner that is action packed.

Wonderful

It took them awhile to find their way back to each other, but the end result was so worth it. I’m so happy Sean finally found his one special love!

This is the fifth book in the Primani series and tells the story of Aisling. She was introduced in the fourth book and is the mother of Sean’s son. She has been agitated and unfriendly to Sean since she was found on an alternate plan after she was scattered a hundred years ago. Sean met her and Sean Michael was conceived when Sean landed in the same place after he was scattered. As the son of two Primani, Sean Michael, has a major role in Armageddon. Therefore, it is important that Sean and Aisling are able to co-parent successfully. Her past, through her childhood and work as a Primani, is revealed. Aisling appears to be a loner and lacks a strong support system. Her maker, Gabriel, has offered no guidance and comfort to her. She continues to suffer unspeakable torture, which would have made the strongest of us mentally unstable. Aisling is one of my favorite characters of this series because she is so fallible. She has made plenty of mistakes and trusted the wrong ones. Yet, with the assistance of a matchmaking archangel, she is able to bond and nurture her devotion to her family. I received an arch of this book in exchanged for a fair review.

The Primani series is one that needs to be read in order. It contains fascinating characters who work on the side of the angels to fight evil.
They are not perfect but they try hard to do what is right.

Aisling has been keeping dark secrets for a long time. I wondered what was motivating her issues with Sean and this book answers those questions. She has a very tragic past that keeps her from pursing her own desires. When the demon from her past makes it clear her son is in danger, she will do anything to protect him.

Sean has not been the same since he lost Mica. I hoped he could find some peace and joy and his relationship with Aisling has never progressed like expected. They argue all the time. They do both love their son and he is the tie that keeps them together. Sean is a passionate man and he needs someone equally strong.

This book really focuses on their relationship and I enjoyed getting to know more about them both. Their son is such a fun character. The only thing I missed it that there was very little of Mica (except in reference) but it looks like that will change based on the preview of the new book.

I received a copy in return for a honest review.

My dear lord!!!!!

I really do not know what to say about this book.....
It pissed me off,it made me laugh, it made me cry it made me want to throw the book out the window and it also made me wanna hug it ohhh so tight.
Truth is that i have been struggling to read this book....For some reason i couldn't start it and then when i did i couldn't put it down....also when it was over i was really in need for more.

We have been waiting for Seans and Aislings story for sometime and finally its here.
Its fast its furious its dark and twisted and its a mess those demons and angels have created!
I have to say that at points i felt a bit lost in the story and like i missed something only for everything to end up as it should be and having spend a few hours with a really amazing book.
I really can't wait to see what else has the author in store for us!

I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This book started slow and I have to admit to getting more than a little irritated with the movements between present day and what happened in the past. As I got deeper into the story it started to make more sense and I understood the relevance of the parts of this story set in the past.

This is the story of Sean's and Aisling's own pasts and what events have shaped them to be what they are today. If Aisling annoyed you with her behaviour in book four, this will explain why she behaved that way. As always there is a dramatic conclusion that involves a damaged building (I say no more).

I enjoyed this book a great deal after I got my head around the timeline changes. The writing was clear and feelings, motivations and thoughts are easy to understand and feel. There are some fairly racy sex scenes in here so be aware. If it was possible I would give it a 4.5.

Aisling and Sean have to work together. Their son's life depends on it, no matter how they feel about one another. Her past is finally coming to a head and it's time to face it. Can she ever be free of her secrets or will they destroy everything she holds dear.

I have to say I didn't like Aisling much going into this book. She has been moody and had an attitude for some time. This book really makes you understand where she is coming through and feel for her. She has been through hell and back more than once. Those she should have been able to rely on let her down more often than not. Gabriel needs his ass kicked! I really enjoyed the ending and look forward to reading the next one. Hoping one day the kids will get a book or series of their own as well.

Emotional, dark and suspenseful Darkness Calling is focused on Aisling and Sean. Introduced as the mother of Sean’s son earlier in the series, Aisling is nothing shy of being a mean, aggressive b*tch. But then again everyone has their reasons and hers tops the list. As far as Sean, well we also learn more about his beginnings, to become the man he is. There is a lot of aggression and sexual tension between the two...when faced with powerful demons can they set aside their emotions?

Laurie has not stopped world building or developing her characters, which truly makes this a great series to read. I received a copy of Darkness Calling from the author in exchange for an honest opinion.

Finally!!
We get to pull two more threads from the original Primina trilogy of Lost Souls and discover what is with the animosity between Sean and Ainsley!

Wow! another great read. I love this seriers. Laurie Olerich is a masterful weaver of stories. Here are two more threads weaved into the story Darkness Calling. We learn the back stories of Sean and Ainsley and also learn that Archangels also have near human emotions. They can make mistakes, feel guilt and even apologise. To err is to be human. Will this couple stand up and fight- whaterver it takes- to be a family again? You bet!

Wow

This series has been amazing. If you haven't read it yet start from the beginning. I really wanted to hate Aisling for the carp she has put Sean through since she came back, but after finding out what she was going through, I just wanted Sean to be happy with her.
