Would you trust what you see… if the killer controlled the view?

Rusty Redmond thought she was done running festivals. But when the Fall Fest’s flashy new augmented reality corn maze becomes the scene of a murder, the former director is pulled into a game where every turn could be a trap.

With Boo, her buff-colored cocker spaniel, leading the way, Rusty must navigate a tangle of suspects—rivals, politicians, influencers, and one sponsor with a smile too smooth to trust—before the maze’s illusions hide the truth forever.

Sue Hollowell is a wife and empty nester with a lot of mom left over. Finding a lot of time on her hands, and as a lover of mystery novels, she began telling the story of a character who appeared in her head.

The Chemical Bond is a book about Meredith Markette, a young woman who reluctantly enters into the field of law enforcement when her police officer father is killed in the line of duty. Her quest is to discover his murderer and in the meantime come to terms with a tragedy of her youth.

Will this book ever see the light of day? Maybe. Sue really likes the story and character. And writing that book taught her a ton about the publishing industry. Through this experience she has discovered a love of writing stories, and especially mysteries. She hopes you enjoy her books as much as she enjoys writing them.

She and her husband are on the search to adopt a dog, really missing her spaniels that passed a couple of years ago.

I received an ARC copy from the author and even though I wasn’t required to post a review, I wanted to offer my honest, voluntary impression upon finishing it.

This is the second book in a new series by Sue involving a retired event planner and her dog who has the uncanny instinct to dig and sniff out clues humans seem to miss when foul play is around.

After they solved a murder involving a drone, the next event in the town is a corn maze but things take a dark turn when the inventor of the program people see when wearing special goggles to have a AR experience turns up dead, strangled. Rusty and Boo are right there moments after it happens and immediately start gathering clues for the police.

Suspects again take shape including a social media influencer who is there because of the sponsor of the event, the daughter of the owner of the property who was upset because the sponsor covered up her artistic creations for the maze with their own creations and a politician who claimed this experience was releasing too much radiation into the air harming the people enjoying the experience among others. With her two trusted friends, Rusty and Boo settle down and examine all the facts and shift through clues and red herrings to find out whodunnit!

This is an enjoyable reading experience for everyone who loves cozy mysteries and a smart canine who helps finds clues the humans put together to unmask the perpetrator! It’s fun to feel you are right there as the clues are uncovered and you can form your own opinion as to the guilty party and see if in the end you were right or if the red herrings caused you to pick the wrong suspect!

I certainly recommend this book as one I enjoyed and believe you will as well. If you haven’t read the first book in this series, Pumpkins and Pixels, why not get it as well and enjoy Rusty and Boo’s first adventure in sleuthing to uncover who committed the first murder!

These books are short as far as novels go and can be read in one day or two depending on your time but you’ll find a story you’ll get caught up in right away and will want to see it through to the end!

I love all things Sue Hollowell, and this does not disappoint,; this is book two in The Fall Fest Fatalities series. Rusty Redmond is the retired Festival Director for the town of Ciderbrook Crossings, she has an adorable Cocker Spaniel, Boo who is a great sniffer! The previous book had a pumpkin carving with a drone. Now we have an augmented reality corn maze (Harvest Hazen AR Maze). Can they pull this off without a hitch? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. I can't wait for the next book in the series!!!

The second book in this trilogy. This time the event takes place in the corn maze. Ghostly farmers appear where none were supposed to be & a few other oddities as well. Then a body is discovered in the special cul-de-sac by the scarecrow thrown. Definitely murdered. Once again, Rusty & Boo are on the job, helping the police. So much of these books need one to understand IT. I don’t, but am still enjoying them.

Rusty is back with another mystery to solve. Another interesting premise, but again the technical jargon went over my head and made the details hard to follow. Definitely would make more sense to someone with more computer coding experience. I read an advance copy of the book and these are my impressions.

Rusty and her dog Boo team up with their friends Rett and Sy to solve a mystery in the Corn Maze. It seems technical problems caused quite a stir! Angry townspeople abound in this usually pleasant place.

Wow! This one is a can’t-put-down/sitting-on-the- edge-of-your-seat one! So interesting how they collected the evidence to get the “bad guy”! Now starting #3 in the series!
