A breathtaking, enchanting new series by debut author K.T. Jay, about a boy who lost his mom and found the storyworld she created. Now, he must discover his new powers and rescue his cousin.
Book loving Liam is just trying to survive the high school bullies while not burdening his sick mother with the results of his beatings.
But when her final wish transports him into the fantasy world she created, he's launched on a quest to rescue his cousin and unlock the power his mom left behind.
Aided by quirky companions and endless cups of tea, Liam must challenge menacing wizards, outwit treacherous fairies, and unravel the truth about the extraordinary woman he never fully knew.
A journey through grief, magic, secrets, and double lives, Inkbound Inheritance is a story about finding your place in the world, even when it seems like everything is falling apart.
For fans of magical coming-of-age tales and heartwarming journeys of self-discovery, Inkbound Inheritance is the first in a powerful series that will leave you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Don't miss out on this captivating read!
Wow! I don't normally gravitate towards fantasy but I enjoyed this! Inkbound Inheritance is a beautiful story of a boy navigating grief through the adventure of a lifetime. K.T. Jay has an incredible ability to weave life lessons into her story that provoked contemplation of my own journey! I can't wait to read the next book she writes!
So magical and heartwarming! From start to finish this book is filled with twists and turns, friendship and magic. I loved every bit of it and can’t wait for the next one!
Inkbound Inheritance is a heartfelt and imaginative fantasy debut (presumed debut) that weaves the pain of loss with the thrill of adventure. It speaks to anyone who’s felt lost in the aftermath of tragedy—and to those who believe that magic, above all, can heal.
Happy Pub day!! Her beautiful book, Inkbound Inheritance, is officially out in the world today, and I could not be more excited (or proud!). This story is full of heart, magic, and emotion—it pulled me in from the very first page and stayed with me long after I finished.
Inkbound Inheritance is a mix of all things good about fantasy. There are wizards, fairies, water nymphs, and endearing characters that make you wish you were in the book yourself. The author's descriptive writing lets you embark on Liam's journey with him, allowing you to experience adventure and become Inkbound in your own special way. I would love a possible continuation of this series.
One of my favorite things was the Stream Side Kids. Who doesn't love a group of scrappy kids that are determined, playful, and live in a tree? I wish I got to be a stream side kid for a day (minus the orphan-ness and looming threat of Conroy). Congrats to this author's debut book!
Thoroughly enjoyed Inkbound Inheritance! It is an exciting, endearing read that is fun to get lost in. It felt like a self discovery journey meets Alice In Wonderland wrapped up in a classic quest of the young hero trying to take down the evil villain. For me, many books in this genre can seem to take a little too long to settle into the story and build out the new world. This was not the case with Inkbound Inheritance! You were immediately thrown into the story, hooked with Liam’s plight and then got to discover the world right along with him. Many of the characters were so special too - Fox and Juniper were two of my favorites. I feel the content and storyline would be great for middle schoolers and up. Without spoiling the story, Liam struggles with death, anger, insecurity, trust and himself. His journey and path through could really speak to youth and adults alike ❤️ Highly recommend this book!
Inkbound Inheritance surprised me in the best way! I grew up with Narnia and Tolkien by my side and this was the perfect new modern fantasy!
What stood out most to me was how beautifully it wove grief into the story; not just as a theme in the background, but as a driving force that shaped the characters and their choices. The emotions felt raw and real, and at times I found myself pausing to sit with what the characters were experiencing.
Beyond that, the writing was engaging and atmospheric, pulling me in from the first chapter. The blend of magic, family, and legacy kept me turning pages, but it was the heart, the honest exploration of loss and healing, that really stayed with me.
If you enjoy fantasy that doesn’t shy away from real, human emotions, this is one I’d definitely recommend. Congrats to this new debut author! A great new read!
I cried, I laughed and I cheered for Liam and the Stream Side kids! Inkbound Inheritance is a beautifully written Fantasy book intertwined with real life obstacles. You are taken on a great adventure with Liam and the Stream Side kids. The visualization is so detailed, I felt as though I was running in the woods or having a snowball fight right next to the characters. A Fantasy book, however parts of my teenage years were written down in these pages. Love, Loss, Finding your way in the world - and most importantly, realizing that no matter the ties, your friends truly do become your family. If you love Fantasy and teens coming of age, then this book is for you. Congratulations K.T. Jay - This debut book took me on a roller coaster of emotions, adventures and fun!
Wow! This book is beautifully written. The story is beautiful combination of meaningful and fun. The main character Liam goes on a journey you don’t want to miss in an adventurous world the author paints so beautifully. Also, as someone who appreciates a story that talks about working through grief, I really appreciated how the author worked through how even after someone is gone- we still get to know them through the both beautiful and hard parts of their legacy. This book is whimsical and magical but also acts like a warm cup of tea for readers processing grief. Book two needs to drop soon!!!

This was such a joy to read. The author has this great ability to describe real world emotions and scenarios that are believable and moving while also creating this magical fantasy world that we get to explore with the main character together. It was a breath of fresh air to have a young adult fantasy novel that not only isn’t afraid to push into hard things like grief and loneliness, but not just leave it there. If you’re looking for a fun adventure of a world to sink into with new friendships, a main character discovering hidden magical abilities, and a journey through hard emotions that still has hope, you need to pick up this book.
Peter Pan meets Harry Potter meets Narnia, Inkbound Inheritance is a captivating story about daring adventure, found family, facing your fears, and finding your place in the world. K.T. Jay expertly builds the storyworld Domhania. As a reader you want to jump right in and run alongside the Stream Side Kids. As the story twists and turns, you are reminded that no matter what life throws at you, you are never alone. Run to grab yourself a copy. You won't be disappointed!
This isn’t just a story about a rescue quest and magical bloodlines (though yes, there is a murderous wizard and a pendant with a mysterious backstory), it’s about the kind of sacrifices that echo through generations and finding out about them when it feels too late. As a major theme, grief is woven into the story like an old spell. It’s always present, and at times overpowering, but there is healing in the journey. In the whispered stories over tea time and in the way friends show up with healing potions AND emotional support. Speaking of friends, this crew is *chef’s kiss.* A charming leader of orphaned kids with a heart of gold, a healer who’s basically everyone’s mom, and a pair of brothers who find their way into trouble. Their loyalty? Unbreakable. Their banter? Top-tier. Their found family dynamic? The real magic of the book. If you love fantasy with heart, this book is for you. And in the meantime—don’t battle the darkness alone…
A wonderful, cozy novel, perfect to kick off the fall season.
Very rarely do I read a book that captures the same awe and inspiration I felt when first discovering Harry Potter. Yet Inkbound Inheritance not only captures that magic, it exceeds my expectations in every way. The debut novel from author K.T. Jay is a triumphant masterpiece that will inspire generations of readers (and future authors) to come. She has firmly established herself as a powerful world-builder, filling her pages with memorable characters who feel both unique and deeply personal.
I won’t spoil the story for those waiting to read it, but I will say this. Liam’s journey of uncovering his family’s secrets will leave you turning pages until the end. For me, this book belongs alongside some of the greatest fantasy novels of all time, while also carving out something fresh and original.
I cannot recommend this book enough. If you read only one novel this fall, make it Inkbound Inheritance.
Inkbound Inheritance is not just a fantasy novel, but also a personal journey! Imagine the great adventures and relationships from childhood stories like Peter Pan or Sword and the Stone, married with the emotional depth of exploring real life topics like complicated grief and discovering one’s identity. As you turn the very first few pages, you’ll be quickly immersed into Liam’s life as if you’ve also transported into this “fantasy” world alongside him. The characters you meet along the way will impress and inspire you. Detailed scenes enchant with imagery that touches all of the senses. You will dive in for the story, but you’ll remain for the friendships, and by the end you might even realize that you were indeed inkbound yourself…completely captivated by the creativity of this young new author’s exciting debut novel. Can’t wait to see what happens next… -Kat
Inkbound Inheritance was the most wholesome, heartwarming, and suspenseful dive into a premise every book lover has at some point dreamed of: being able to step into the story world. It reminded me a bit of Peter Pan if Peter Pan centered emotional intelligence. Characters get swept up into an unseen layer of reality; there's a motley gaggle of boys (and girl!) you come to feel fiercely protective of; friendship beams from the story's center toward a seemingly impossible goal. K.T. Jay's words ring so true to the experience of grief and resilience, all steeped in whimsicality and pure imagination! As a book editor who spends a lot of time reading emerging work, I'm sure this will be an instant favorite for young and grown readers alike.
This book really took me back to the joy I felt reading fantasy books as a young adult/teenager. It's a wonderful ride into a magical world but at the heart of it, it deals with genuine human emotions like loss and grief. The characters are well written and the author does a great job of weaving fantastical elements and the human experience from beginning to end. I would highly recommend this, especially for young readers interested in fantasy!!
The premise of Inkbound Inheritance is exactly what this generation of young adults need (aka the “anxious generation”). Not only is it a grand, magical adventure with twists, turns, and excitement, but it also takes you through a journey of grief with HEALTHY ways of processing it—a true light in the darkness! Highly recommend!
Inkbound Inheritance by K.T. Jay is a heartfelt book which takes the reader through the full range of emotions and challenges that so many of us face. This is a story about a family’s enduring love and the realization that family is not one which is only bound by blood. You will be rooting for Liam and the Stream Side Kids throughout…can’t wait for the next book in the series!
This was such a cozy read that drew me right in to a beautiful world. I loved the details, world building, and emotional journey that each character went through. You’ll finish the adventure on the edge of your seat!
i absolutely adore the journey i went through while reading this book. The care and attention shown to developing each character is unmatched. 10/10 would read again!
