Rate this book
A typical day in the life of Charley Davidson involves cheating husbands, missing people, errant wives, philandering business owners, and oh yeah...demons, hell hounds, evil gods, and dead people. Lots and lots of dead people. As a part time Private Investigator and full-time Grim Reaper, Charley has to balance the good, the bad, the undead, and those who want her dead. In this eleventh installment, Charley is learning to make peace with the fact that she is a goddess with all kinds of power and that her own daughter has been born to save the world from total destruction. But the forces of hell are determined to see Charley banished forever to the darkest corners of another dimension. With the son of Satan himself as her husband and world-rocking lover, maybe Charley can find a way to have her happily ever after after all.

So where to start with this book. I'm a fan of this series and of this author, so I sometimes, when I know there is a new book on the horizon, tend to mildly stalk Darynda on her facebook. And what would you know, that's exactly where she so kindly posted the link to NetGalley, about this story being there up for grabs. Of course I had to get this book and I did. Yes! It's no surprise that I really liked this new story. I can never get enough of Reyes and Charley. I recently started to collect the paperbacks (I can't find the hardcovers and it sucks!), because you know, you can never have enough books. That being said, the mother of all cliffhangers! Are you kidding me?!!!

description

It came out of nowhere! I felt like the last 10% were totaly on a higher lever than the rest of the plot, since that's where we actually continue the story from the previous book, as in what happens with the god that wants to kill Beep. The rest of the plot was more like a nice story but also in a way a filler. I dunno. But I do know that I need the next book ASAP!

But back to the story. The plot is more about Amber and about her stalker, I know, crazy right?! Did not see that one coming. And about Reyes's brother but from a different mother. It all makes sense when you read the book. I loved every page. Charley is as crazy and funny as always and Reyes is simply Reyes. There's not much to say about these two. They simply fit. Charley learns a few new cool things about who she is and what kind of power she possesses, also how to use it. That was definitely fun, especially since some hot and I mean HOT scenes came out of all that learning lesson. ;) We also get to see the rest of the gang. I really liked Osh, he seems like the type of character that you simply grow to love. I really wonder, if we ever get to see him and Beep together, as in they have their own book. That would be so awesome! But firstly we have to save Charley from starting a war with Him and of course the freaking cliffy! That was so not nice! But it does make you wonder what will happen next. I think there are some great new plot twists that we can expect.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say with my long rant, is that you should definitely get the book and read it!

As a fan it hurts me that every freaking book is now a cliffhanger. I use to be the biggest advocate for this series, and honestly I just feel letdown as a fan of the series. I get so sick and tired of little info being put out each book that pertains to the big showdown at the end of whenever and then bam cliffhanger. It's now book 11, what are we waiting for? It's super convoluted, and I just find myself frustrated at best to describe it. I put in my time, money, energy and love into this series. I think about how the series started, and yeah nothing was set in stone, but so much information is being put out at each book that I've lost focus on what the end game was. It seems like a lot of filler information, and nothing set in stone for a finale of epic proportion and what I feel like we were lead to believe. I mean at this points, it just seems like it's never going to end. I don't see the ending in sight. I know it's bad for me when it's not even funny anymore, and I just want the book to end. Trust me, I'm mad.

**Sighs**
Charley and Reyes continue to do the back and forth not talking, talking, not trusting, trusting each other. It's annoying. It's also annoying that Charley has to continuously ask what she can do, and never try anything first. She never attempts things on her own when it comes to her powers. I know Reyes is the know how when it comes to this stuff, but damn Charley the foolishness has to stop.

I didn't really gain anything by this book. A few scenes satisfied me, and of course I love seeing the gang together, but it's the second book since Beep was born that we still don't see them interacting with her. I KNOW they aren't suppose to but, the Charley from books 1-5 would have moved heaven and hell to see her child. Atleast it's what I think. I'm getting tired of Reyes doing the same posturing he does every book. Ya'll know I love me some Reyes Alexander Farrow, but I think him and I are almost at our end. As I type this, I know I'm not mentally strong enough to quit the series until I know it's over.

I miss the old formula to this series, and sometimes I feel like it's this long because it's a money train. That's the angry side of me, and I hope it's not the case. I really wish we can get back to the investigating and an end game. I feel like this group of people has been through enough, and nothing else needs to shake them. What I didn't need was another cliffhanger. Yet we can't get everything we ask for.

Huh. I guess there's not much hope at this point that we're ever going to get back to the Charley I loved in the early part of this series.

The case she was trying to solve here was interesting enough, I guess, but I'm so underwhelmed by the way the ongoing story is unwrapping that I can't get too enthusiastic about this instalment.

I really wish this series stuck to a simpler formula of Charley being snarky and fun and solving mysteries with just a hint of the supernatural stuff. This is just too much for me, especially when you get to the cliffhangers for so many of the books in this series.

I think if I'd been reading these as they were released I would have dumped this series back at book 6 or 7.

But, that ending????

Now I have to wait another year to find out? Just get a gun and shoot me instead. It would be easier than the slow torture you have unleashed upon me, Darynda!

Ugh! So, anyway, in this installment, we have Charley trying to solve a case that involves the people who kidnapped her husband as a baby. These people, unlike most kidnappers, are bat-shit crazy. Like religious crazy, which is somehow worse. The way I see it, if you want to be evil assholes, why drag God into the mix? Don't try to give us the old, "we're doing God's work" routine when we all know perfectly well that you are just a jerk. An evil jerk. Why not take credit for your own evil deeds?

Yes, Cat of God, we will listen and obey.

Along with working this case, Charley also has to figure out why her uncle is acting weird, who is stalking a teenage girl, and how to dematerialize. That last one might be a bit tricky. Oh, and let's not forget all of the ghosts who always seem to need something from your favorite neighborhood grim reaper.

Ghosts have fears too

These books always crack me up because I love the silliness of Charley's thoughts. But, there is also always those moments of sad, especially because of Beep. Also, does anyone else love Osh as much as I do? I love him more than Reyes. Maybe that's because I love feeding people and people who love to eat. Sure, he eats souls, but still, healthy appetite. It must be the mom in me.

Aww, what an adorable little boy!

Watchful angels everywhere! a psychotic stalker, missing children and the sickest, most misguided religious adoption agency to ever see the light of day. To top it off; there is Eidolon...

That's right, there is no rest for the wicked. Or the godly. As in actual gods, of course. Our star-crossed crossed deities are unlikely to find peace on Earth anytime soon. Add a God Glass to the equation and things might get a little hairy...

But I suppose thats only to be expected when you're Satan’s daughter-in-law, Jehovah’s sister-in-law, and Jesus’s aunt by marriage. Talk about the ultimate nuclear family!

In some ways, this book was a surprise. From the way the last one ended, I was sure there main focus would be on Big Bro from on high. Instead, we're taken, not only on a hunt for the missing children, but on the first steps of a journey of self discovery as well. Turns out, you should never trust another god with your memories when you need a timeout. Or should you? Just like her hot as hell BF, Charley's memories from her time in her own, celestial realm might not be all that accurate. Especially those pertaining to her particular, shall we say "celestial diet"....

Eleventh Grade delivered all the usual banter and smexiness I've come to expect (and demand) from a Charley Davidson novel. I don't think I will ever grow tired of his endless (smuttylicious) love for Dutch. I mean; nothing says "I love you" quite like being taken on a trip to sunny Sahara to look for a speck of dust, am I right? ;-)

I wonder, though, if we will not be seeing how our favorite couple really feel about one-another now that Charley is about to regain her memories of their time together prior to their meeting in the flesh, so to speak. Luckily, they've got their awesome human/daeva/deceased spirits posse to help them.

As usual; lots of laugh-out-loud moments, the scene at the psychiatrists office was pure gold and an awesome way to start a book.

The only reason I deducted half a star was because I felt the Eidolon situation was resolved in a rather anticlimactic fashion - I kept waiting for a bigger battle

And finally; as always: I can't wait for the next installment!

THE REVIEW

Why this book?
I love this series

What I thought

This book was just plain awesome, but of course it was the whole series is awesome! I love Charley and all her shenanigans and Reyes and gang. It kills me every year to wait and see what they're going to be up to next. So much stuff happened in this book and so much is brought to light. There is never a dull moment. I liked how this book didn't feel as dark as the last two did and how the characters always surprise me. The plot was also really good, investigating cults and perverts all in the life of Charley Davidson. Definitely a perfect addition to the series.

"Is there anything else you want to share?" "Anything you think of I should be aware of?"
"No" I shook my head in thought " Not especially. Unless you count the fact that I'm going to take over the world."
"The whole thing?"
"Well,i'm going to try to take over the world."
"And you feel you're prepared for world domination?"
I lifted a noncommittal shoulder "I'm taking a business class"

There is never enough pages in these books ! Ms Jones writes so magically that it always feels like I just started the book then BAM it’s over. I get lost in the story, lose track of time and become totally emerged in Charlie Davidson’s world, fall so completely in love with her husband. Ah, I mean I really enjoy reading these characters. Falling in love with a fictional character would be nuts right ? I may be a little nuts.
Point of extreme interest-
-Charlie is evolving, superpowers are engaged, and necks are broken.
-Charlie has a grasshopper moment she learns to be the grain of sand.
-Reyes can take me to a coffee shop anytime
-Stuff happens on huge enormous scale of happenings
-Holy Hat Tamales stuff goes down !
-The Ending, it will leave you breathless in shock
Loved it, loved it and I loved it.

The Charley Davidson series is a series that will hook you from the very first book, heck, it will hook you from the very first chapter and as the series has progressed, that hook, that addiction, has only gotten better and even more addicting.

Jones' eleventh book is every bit as good as it possible can be. After eleven books one would expect things to start to get to be too much or even too little but instead, each page is infused with just as much humor, fun, and adventure as always, not to mention one heck of a steamy romance. This truly is a series that has just gotten better with time.

Charley, Reyes and gang are some of my most favorite characters. With a plot line that always moves quickly and is always filled with the good stuff it truly is a series that is every bit as hard to resist as it is too put down. I always have to start this knowing that absolutely nothing else will get done that day until I have turned the very last page and wait for the next book begins.

Where to start to review this one? It was emotional and so so, MUCH. So many things happened, so much once again is revealed and that freaking ending, that ending had to be the worst (and the best) yet. It is absolutely going to be torture waiting for book twelve. I can't even believe Jones tortures us the way she has over the course of this series but I, like many others, just keep coming back for more, we can't help ourselves, the allure of Reyes and Osh, Garret, Angel, and even Ubie, are just to much not too. I love all these characters even more so now and I truly am on edge for more.

I enjoyed Eleventh Grave in Moonlight but as with most long running series I'm beginning to feel some fatigue. It took me much longer than usual to read this because I felt like the series has began to go off the rails a bit.

Darynda Jones is a masterful storyteller. She has somehow managed to keep this series funny, sexy, and filled with emotion. Despite my fatigue I will read book 12 which I believe will the last in the series.

I read the past three CHARLEY DAVIDSON titles, and looking back that was a mistake because Lorelei King’s voice has become as synonymous with these books as the t-shirt quotes. Things are still trucking along after 11 volumes, some for the better, and others not so much. Like any long running series, it’s had its hiccups. More questions get added while as others are answered, but overall ELEVENTH GRAVE IN THE MOONLIGHT was another set-up installment for what is to come, and personally I’m beginning to feel like Darynda Jones has published one too many of these.

I can’t knock the humour, the characters or the diverse plot lines. The author knows how to write a fun story, I’ll give you that. Davidson has a tell-all session with a shrink that left me in stitches, and her latest quandary on what to call Reyes’ dink—the Vampire Lestat or Angry Johnny? —is up there with “Danger” and “Will Robinson”. Still, as certain death looms in the not so distant future, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to buy into her godhood, and believe that when the time comes, Charley will be able to focus long enough to get the job done.

My issue from the previous novel with regards to Ubie was addressed, and the protagonist is making inroads towards seizing the power that’s within her grasp. All good signs. The Diviners cult thread was definitely an eye-opener in more ways than one. We learn a lot about Davidson’s pre-reaper days which was long overdue, although I am having trouble piecing the then and now together because the two versions of Charley are polar opposites, but I’m positive that Jones has something up her sleeve. BIG things better happen in book 12 after that ending otherwise meltdown city over here!

Lorelei King was spectacular! I really am kicking myself for succumbing to the lure of shiny advanced review copies. Hopefully I have learned my lesson, and will pre-order the remaining audiobooks from here on out. She didn’t add any new tricks to her wheelhouse other than maybe an Scottish accent during Davidson’s impromptu trip across the pond where she happens to stumble across another closet like the one that kept her hidden at the convent. King is as steady as a rock in her delivery of this series; I’d know blindfolded what she was narrating from the moment she opened her mouth.

ELEVENTH GRAVE IN THE MOONLIGHT did nothing to alleviate my craving for more CHARLEY DAVIDSON, if anything it only made matters worse.

5!! ★'s

Yes! another five star read and my first for this year. I love this series and every single book just keeps getting better and better.

In this book, Charley's up to her same old thing...solving mysteries and helping people at every turn but she is getting stronger with her powers. She is learning more about herself and thankfully Reyes is finally giving her some real help.

Of course, Reyes and Charley are my favorite parts of this whole series and I just love getting to know more about them. Some of the things were maybe a bit too much. It's a weird situation dealing with all these "gods". But I still find it very interesting and I enjoy all the ways Darynda Jones circumvents things.

description

And good lord, does she ever have the imagination? I have no idea where she comes up with these things but it is freakin' amazin' and HOT! Phewww! I think even Reyes surprised himself! ;)

I love that Charley got to have some tender moments with a certain someone. I think that was something she really needed and I would've loved to of seen more of that. I also wouldn't mind getting more about Beep...unfortunately, that's probably not going to happen for a while.

As always, Ubie, Cookie, Amber, Angel, Freakin' Osh (I love him more and more) and everyone else plays their parts and makes the story oh-so-much-better.

But nothing, nothing, hands-down beats that awesome What the F? freakin' ending. I can only hope that it has the same kind of situation that Charley had when she was in Sleepy Hollow. It's gonna be awesome and I cannot wait!

...Oh and I hope there's lots of angry sex ~ lots and lots of it.

Omg! Omg! OMG!!

I just can't believe this author! How she amazes me every time I read a book of hers. I just love Charlie and Reyes! This is one the the most beautiful and extraordinary series EVER!! I'll always read about Charlie.

This series is just getting better and better. The smexy scenes are incredible! I LOVED the plot this time, it didn't involve just the MCs but the side ones as well ( not so sidey...). I hope I see more of Shawn, he looked so cool...

This is a book you read in just one sitting and I can't wait for the next one. THAT ENDING just blew my mind. I'm so excited, and a bit scared, too. I don't know what to expect. Oh Reyes....

Another fabulous and funny read from one of my favourite authors Darynda Jones.

I love the way Charley has developed over the last 11 books to become what she has in book 12, however, she is only just starting to become what she is meant to become, where will that take us?

Can't believe Reyes done what he did and that Eleventh Grave in Moonlight ended with that cliffhanger!!

Finally the book that I have been waiting for because as much as I've enjoyed the previous episodes in Charleys life I'm the first to admit her exuberant often teenlike behaviour has stymied my belief in her relationship. Yes I am referring to her often cow like batting of eyes when her husband Reyes comes into view. Yes he is gorgeous, apparently sex on a stick but his taciturn acceptance of Charleys crazy ways often leaves me stumped!
Anyway onto the plot. There is so much converging here that I'm at a loss to know what to say without letting the proverbial feline out of the bag. Ok we know Charley and Reyes are Gods and Reyes knows a lot more about their history than he's letting on. Plus Charleys daytime job as a Private Investigator often sends her on wild adventures, well this time it's a lot more personal as her latest client has a huge connection to Reyes. Add in the fact that her uncle is definitely up to something and then there's the non too little matter of a certain God who is still out hunting for Charleys hidden daughter. See ? Its a fabulous story with so many threads but don't discount the human aspect because not all evil resides in hell!
I truly loved seeing Charley grow in this book and yes she's still full of funny one liners but there is a new maturity to her here. If it's the relationship she shares with Reyes that excites you then be prepared for Heat that quite rightly starts with a capital H as Charley gets a crash course in just what her powers can really do! There are quiet moments when the author tugs on the readers heartstrings and I will never view a simple hug quite the same way again but then we are off and running again as Charley and Reyes hurtle to a shock ending that will have readers gnashing their teeth! Roll on the next book because it's going to be a doozy.
I was given a copy of this and voluntarily read it. These comments are my honest opinion

The publisher's blurb, reprinted at the head of this Goodreads page, bows at last to reality and brings us up to date on Charley Davidson's many discoveries through the first ten books in her series, which really needs to be read in publication order. So if you haven't gotten that far yet, or if you're just now thinking about starting, both that blurb and this review may spoil a lot of your fun. Be warned!

And these books have really been fun for me to read, with Charley narrating the suspense and action of her life as a private investigator in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a uniquely wry sense of humor as she solves crimes that have a strong supernatural element, and this is blended more and more each time with her awe at the steady expansion of her awareness into wider realms, universes, and dimensions:
...the images that flooded my cerebral cortex defied logic. The creation of Earth. The depth of the ever-expanding universe. Living creatures in the farthest reaches of space. And the gods. So many more than I ever imagined possible. Almost every dimension, and there were thousands, had at least one. Some more. A few none.
That was a vision imparted to Charley by the archangel Michael. Yes, that Michael. An increasingly important character in this series, it seems. Because, as the blurb says,
Charley is learning to make peace with the fact that she is a goddess with all kinds of power and that her own daughter has been born to save the world from total destruction.
And let's not forget that her husband (and baby Beep's father) Reyes Farrow is officially son of Satan. Yes, that Satan. Traditional Hell and (maybe) Heaven merge with a polytheistic universe (how many of these characters are actually gods like Charley, hmm?) in a kind of theological coup de grace that leaves Charley's head spinning, and ours as well.

So, squelching that urge to make sense of all this, we relax and go for another wild ride with Charley, Reyes, Ubie, Cookie, Angel (a ghost), and others in a gripping case of abductions and foster care gone wrong. They're closely tied in to this one because it's all about Reyes's first foster family, and not only the suspense but the personal drama become intense. There will be bodies on the ground before it's over...can't say more than that.

And we ride along in that sky balloon over Albuquerque (metaphorically speaking) as Charley gets farther than ever before into the world of the gods, and that leads to a different kind of crisis. I do regret the oh-god-no-not-that twist at the end that only serves to hook us into book #12. Otherwise, and if you don't mind a first-person narration told by someone with attention deficit disorder as well as a great sense of humor, this book is heartily recommended.

I can honestly say that the Charley Davidson series is my all time favorite. Darynda Jones has cracked the code of keeping a series fresh even after 10 books. I love every character in this series and they all play such an important role in what makes this series so amazing. In Eleventh Grave in Moonlight Charley is up to her usual Private Investigating activities while also dealing with the paranormal danger that is hanging over the gangs heads. The combination of the two is just perfect and makes the read so enjoyable.

In each book we discover new things that may rock Charley and Reyes world. But they are not without support from their friends and family. These group of people are amazing, I especially love Angel. His scenes are my favorites and I just love his interaction with Charley. In this book Uncle Bob is acting really strange, but nobody knows what is going on. We get to see more of Reyes' past and it is heartbreaking. Also Charley takes a case where she has to investigate Reyes' foster parents which Reyes is against. He does his best to get her to drop the case, but Charley is very headstrong and goes against his wishes. Reyes is still my number one book boyfriend, he is such an alpha male and very protective. The love between Charley and Reyes is perfect.

This book is a phenomenal addition to the series. It just gets better and better and the ending has me anticipating the next book like an addict. My love for the characters has grown stronger each book and I just hope this series never ends. I see the characters as part of my family and I cry when they cry and laugh when they laugh. This series is the only one that can make me laugh out loud one moment and cry the other. Charley is the best and I love her quirky and crazy ways, she is one of a kind and I can't wait for Reyes and her to reach their full potential. All the characters continue to grow each book and their bond becomes stronger.

Tons of mystery and one heavy case load, Charley Davidson is peak perfection in book eleven!
From the beginning until the very end I was caught up in her world; but let’s start from the top, shall we?

Something is up with Uncle Ubie, Angel gets a little touchy feely, and Reyes? Well… he gets some steamy prime time not ready for television moments. I really did love this installment. It feels like a throwback to the earlier books. It’s more focused and albeit still funny, just not as silly as she’s been in some of the latter books– meaning that our Charlie is still fun, but not as childish as she once was.

Reyes and Charley have some much needed time together in Eleventh Grave. A more focused “team” mentality is
driven by the fact that Beep’s protection and security needs to come above all else. It’s time to get down to business and figure out what Charley is truly capable of.

“Few things in life are as surprising as having your husband, the man you gave your heart and soul to, throw you off a 350 foot building. I should know.”

LOL! Get ready folks, this is going to be one hell of a ride with a cliffhanger to die for!

I freaking love Charley Davidson. She's a girl after my own heart. She loves coffee nearly as much as I do, she has kickass ankle boots, you can always count on her sarcastic and bizzare answers to any given question, she gives names to inanimate objects that make total sense (like naming a couch Alexander Skarsgard for it's buttery curves and wide back), and occasionally she kills an evil god or two. Not The God, just uhm... the other annoying ones.

Personally, I try to stay away from any particular religion. God and I have an understanding about that. I believe that he/she/it is somewhere out there, looking down at us with a huge celestial bowl of popcorn, while not enforcing any particular set of rules. It's kind of like an MMA match, where everything goes. I imagine he/she/it is quite amused with a number of "true religions" out there. It's just my take on things, so no offense.

From Charley's perspective God is not doing a real good job, so she's contemplating taking over. Of course any sane person would bounce that idea off his psychiatrist first. Just to, you know, get it out there, see how that sounds.
"I'm going to take over the world."
"The whole thing?"
"Well, I'm going to try to take over the world."
"And you feel you're prepared for world domination?"
I lifted a noncommittal shoulder. "I'm taking a business class."

She's still figuring that all out. It's not like she has a lot of free time on her hands as it is. There's still a bad god after her daughter, in cahoots with Lucifer by the way. Also Ubie is acting weird, there's a kidnapping to solve, creepy stalker to catch, and figure out how to get souls out of hell dimension situated in an ancient pendant. Oh, and bring down bat shit crazy cult. It's a busy week in Charlesville.
And who came up with the animals for these euphemisms, anyway? Why bat shit? Why not cow shit or grasshopper shit? And why don't we give a rat's ass as opposed to a hamster's ass?

I have no idea how she gets anything done with Reyes Farrow in close proximity. That man is damn hot! That could possibly be explained by him being a demon from hell, but I'm not sure.
"You know, I was thinking about my in-laws." I strolled closer, craving his heat. And his scent. And the power that continuously hummed through him like an infinite source of energy. "You know, from your supernatural side? By being married to you, I am Satan's daughter-in-law, Jehova's sister-in-law, and Jesus's aunt by marriage."

I can only imagine a Thanksgiving at that table. And I thought my family was crazy.
Over and out.

It's completely official. I'm a fan. I'm consistently having a burritoful of fun every time I pick these up. Any kind of old annoyance I MIGHT have had with the series is flattening out in a slide of hot coffee and green chiles.

And now? I'm just enjoying the UF goodness.

Let's enjoy those godlike powers, shall we? It's BIG power. :) HUGE.

So why isn't the story overwhelmed with such huge powers and huge stakes?

It's Albuquerque. Nobody expects much of that place, I think. BUT GIMME MY HOT FOOD! :)

This series is just so fantastic. So much so, that when I received the latest release, I warned my family that I will only be available for the occasional meal and threatened death if I was interrupted whilst reading my new book.

The men in Charley’s life are trying to boss her around. Someone from Reye’s past has asked Charley to do some investigative work for him and Reye’s has ordered her to ‘Drop the case, Dutch’. Ubie is in a grumpy mood and has told Charley to stay at home or he will arrest her. Charley being Charley, of course, does not comply. And what is it with all the Angels following her!

Aside from being a goddess and Grim Reaper, Charley is just a mum who misses her daughter, an adoring (albeit troublesome) wife to the son of Satan and a protective friend who is trying to run her Private Investigator business (with the help of indispensable Cookie).

I was determined to savour every word on every page and marvel at Ms Jone’s incredible writing style, but instead, like a drug addict, I was taken on an incredible ride and couldn’t stop until it was over. It is inconceivable (and impossibly cruel) to have to wait another year for the next book (especially after that ending!). I giggled at Charley’s antics and witty comebacks, swooned over Reye’s hotness and got to hang out with Angel, Osh, Cookie and Amber. It doesn’t get much better than that!

So snuggle up with a hot chocolate and dive into the latest chapter in the life of Charley and her friends. You won’t regret it!

Review to come. I'm honestly a jumble of emotions right now. The ending really messed me up. I feel anger, disappointment, sadness, but I do think the book was good. I just, I just dunno how I feel about anything quite yet. Especially the mother effing CLIFF HANGERS which are getting super annoying as they now serve to stretch out the book. Charley used to have more in way of investigations, I'd like some more of that. Ugh. So yea. I dunno.

_____________

Ok, so I've slept on it a bit. Not much really happens in this book, like really, everything that happens is in the back 10% of the book. It sucks because it was only 10% of the book, I miss Charley having more adventure in the books.

Charley's witty banter, and sarcasm are no grating on my nerves, instead of finding it quirky and cute for Charley I find it annoying and sometimes distracting to the plot. I also feel like it's kind of a way for the author to add bulk to the book. Yes Charley is quirky and yes she can be serious but it hasn't been like that for a few books at least. I wish it wasn't like this for me, but I really wanted the plot to move along.

Eleventh Grave doesn't have all the quirky Cookie banter in it either. I didn't really chuckle in this book and the cast of characters this book was small. Actually the plot became more about Amber's possible Stalker than it did about anything else.

Originally, Shawn Foster of those Fosters came to Charley to have her investigate his "parents". Reyes finds out and continually tells her to "Drop the case, Dutch." to which Charley is all like "no way man". Though he never explains why, this plot point is becoming more and more prominent in their relationship as we go on and I'm becoming more and more irritated by it. They are or should be semi-stable to the point because they are married and a TEAM they should be discussing things like rational adults not playing "avoid the topic". A lot of these issues and miscommunication would be solved if they would explain their reasons instead of giving demands. So some parts of Shawn's case intersect other cases and naturally Charley and the gang get involved. Of course we don't really care about that story. No, what we really care about is what we learned about Reyes and Charley in the last book and how Reyes is going to take it.

So we come to the end of the book the last chapter.....SPOILERS warning, I feel like I can't adequately explain this without explaining what exactly happened.

So I've been in a weird mood since finishing this book. It just hit me harder and I really don't want to see where this goes, but I also have to follow through. I am however, tired of the hooking a fish tactic and constant ending on cliff hangers. I don't feel satisfied. I feel angry that the book ended where it did when the other 200 or so pages didn't really bring us to THIS POINT. And now I have to wait however long to get an answer to this stupid idiotic thing that happened.

And yes I'll still rate it 4 stars because of the impact it had for me. I was completely affected by this book. I didn't know what to do with myself, I felt a bit melancholy so yea. That ending definitely an impact. But a cliff hanger really?

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book for free so that I could give a review of my honest opinion. All opinions in this review are mine and mine alone.

In Eleventh Grave in Moonlight, Charley is worried about keeping Uncle Bob alive, investigating the Fosters, handling a stalker case, and dealing with a God. In other words, things are perfectly normal. Just add coffee and the sizzling hot son of Satan.

Unlike the turmoil in Curse of Tenth Grave, things felt a little more mellow. Say hello to snuggle time with Reyes and some traveling. Jones used these moments as a lesson for both Charley and the reader. We gain a better understanding of the true scope of Charley's powers. These scenes fed my inner nerd, but there was also an incredible intimacy. It captures the trust and love between Reyes and Charley. It was both beautiful and mind-blowingly hot! While miscommunication still dogs this couple, we see them make some strides here.

Some of the threads in the last few novels were closed and with them came intense action scenes and high body counts. We also gained more knowledge and had questions answered. Of course, Jones also succeeding in providing more questions that I need answers to now! I thought the thread and closure to the Foster case reached a satisfactory conclusion. The case involving the stalker was an interesting one, and we got to see Charley test some of the lessons she learned. Dealings with the God were hard on Charley, but oh momma did we learn things. Like how Charley became a reaper! Yep, you need to bump this up your reading list!

With everything that is happening, Charley is still Charley, and we do get moments of laughter and snark. I continue to love the quotes and memes at the beginning of each chapter and Charley's quirky way of naming body parts and inanimate objects.

For me, Eleventh Grave in Moonlight was brilliantly paced and showcases the many sides of Charley. I enjoyed the wealth of information and closure of threads. You can feel Jones moving us to the final book(s). It has me both ecstatic and nervous. Jones always ends her books with something jaw-dropping or with a one-line zinger that has you screaming what?!? All I can say is I cannot wait until The Trouble With Twelfth Grave release October 31, 2017. (Psstt. Don't read the synopsis of 12 until you read 11..it will spoil it for you)

OMG the turn of events will kill you!!!

Humorous and captivating, with a healthy dose of mystery and passion threaded throughout, Eleventh Grave in Moonlight by Darynda Jones is a page-turner! Reyes and Charley's unique chemistry intensifies, so prepare yourself for some steamy moments. Unspoken fears and truths lead to a reality neither Charley or Reyes will be ready for. A MUST READ!!! Brace yourself! Jones delivers one of her best and most shocking nail-biting endings yet! Happy Reading!

Ho-ly heck!!! Let me just say I am so very thankful I don’t have to wait for the next book to be released. This series has taken me on one wild ride but I never in a million years expected this to happen and I’m about to chew my nails off because of it. And I’ve got book twelve queued up and ready.

This time around things are a bit slower for Charlie, at least in Charley’s world which is really saying something because the girl is always in the middle of something. During her “down” time she’s taking lessons from Reyes and I appreciated them because they also helped me to understand exactly what/who Charley was. The total expanse of it was a great reminder as we near the end.

The relationship between her and Reyes is so very moving at times that it brings tears to my eyes. He’s just so perfect for her just as she is for him. I love his protectiveness for not only her but for Beep as well. I just wish we had more of him…always more. I’m greedy like that.

While this might seem slower, that doesn’t mean that things don’t heat up rather quickly – again towards the end as these books tend to do – and even while Charley battles her enemies she is constantly evolving into who she truly is. I’ve been shell shocked one too many times during this series to let this author catch me unaware again, or so I say each time, and yet she does so, again and again and again. This time even as I felt sick at what had happened, things took a turn and suddenly it was all so much worse! Thus the nail biting.

So yeah, I’ve got the next one ready but unfortunately life is going to force me to put it on hold for a few days. However, I might just be able to sneak in the first chapter…

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It's started off slow but ended way too soon. I have so say I predicted the ending. I'm scared for the next book. I may not be able to forgive and forget what Reyes does next. So I hope it gets resolved quickly.
