The collection of the first four Neighbor from Hell Playing for Keeps, Perfection, Checkmate and Truce
Playing for Done with being the world's biggest pushover, Haley decides that things are going to start changing. The first thing that she was going to do was to put a stop to all the crap that her aggravating neighbor put her through. What she hadn't expected was to be sucked into his world, but Haley has a game plan and she won't let herself forget what the bad boy next door is capable of.
Zoe is used to taking care of herself and has long ago accepted that if anything bad was going to happen, it was going to happen to her. So when she loses her job over something most bosses would probably be happy with and her life starts going down hill from there she doesn't expect it to get any better. She certainly didn't expect any help from the loud jerk next door, but then again she has nothing to lose so puts her trust in him and hopes for the best. What she didn't expect was the once in a lifetime opportunity that he offers her through an arrangement where they both benefit and no one is supposed to get hurt, but she should have known better because her luck has never been that good.
There’s nothing worse than living next door to your childhood nemesis, except maybe being forced to share your dream project with him, being blackmailed into going along with something that was just wrong on so many levels, and having your hot cocoa stolen by the person that drove you to drink it in the first place.
As long as she has plenty of hot cocoa, a pair of pliers on hand and is able to resist Connor O’Neil’s bad boy charm then Rory James should be able to make it through this project with her sanity intact. If not…..
She’d probably face a few more nights in jail, have a few more restraining orders slapped against her and lose her heart to the man that ruined her life.
Elizabeth knows what’s expected of her, perfection. She’s the daughter of an Earl and expected to marry well, say and do the right things with a smile on her face when inside she’s dying for a chance to escape. Thanks to an inheritance her godmother left her years ago, her chance will come with her next birthday. Her hopes of escape abruptly end when Robert, her childhood nemesis that she hasn’t seen in over fourteen years, comes back into her life and does everything he can to drive her out of her mind even as he steals her heart.
New York Times Bestselling author, R.L. Mathewson was born in Massachusetts. She’s known for her humor, quick wit and ability to write relatable characters. She currently has several paranormal and contemporary romance series published including the Neighbor from Hell series.
Growing up, R.L. Mathewson was a painfully shy bookworm. After high school she attended college, worked as a bellhop, fast food cook, and a museum worker until she decided to take an EMT course. Working as an EMT helped her get over her shyness as well as left her with some fond memories and some rather disturbing ones that from time to time show up in one of her books.
Today, R.L. Mathewson is the single mother of two children that keep her on her toes. She has a bit of a romance novel addiction as well as a major hot chocolate addiction and on a perfect day, she combines the two.
In 2019/2020, R.L. Mathewson will be publishing Devastated, the first Anger Management novel, Tall, Dark & Furious, the 6th installment to the Pyte/Sentinel series, Irresistible, the long anticipated novel for the Neighbor from Hell Series as well as many more books throughout the year, paranormals, contemporaries, and YAs.
There isn't a single series I love more than Neighbour from hell. I actually stop whichever book I'm busy with when the new Neighbour comes out. I've read them all, and can't wait for the next one!
I can't tell you how much I disliked this book. In fact, I disliked it so much that I barely got through the first. The writing is juvenile at best. If you've ever read a Role-Play (or fan-fiction) between two 14-year-olds who have no idea what a healthy romantic relationship is like then you have a good idea of what this book is like. I actually found the dynamic to be quite abusive. The characters are also extremely dimensional (Mary Sue and Gary Stu, if you will). The author has this terrible habit of using the same word three times within one to two sentences that drove me batty, and also has a love affair with the word "little." I would suggest that Mathewson expand their vocabulary and do some research on human anatomy, because a couple of the sex scenes were so bass-ackwards that I couldn't help but laugh. Really, the whole thing was so cliche and terrible that it hurt my head.
PLAYING FOR KEEPS: Jason cracked me up, "Jason gave Haley a lecture on his manliness and something about her being a bad grasshopper, whatever the hell that meant." Like a typical man he blames his woman for things, “look, woman, I don’t know what you did, but I haven’t been able to sleep since we got back from New York. I’m tired and b****y and all I want is some sleep so cuddle your a** up with me or so help me I will kill you!” Jason snapped." Also like a typical man he only thinks of one thing well two because his stomach is like a bottomless pit but generally it's his girl naked, "he narrowed his eyes on her. “But, you’ll still sleep with me naked and let me do a hundred other naughty things to you?” he asked in a serious tone." I liked this book there was humor and love and sex and in really liked it.
PERFECTION: Trevor amused the hell out of me, "with a sigh, he opened the jar and grabbed a handful of mini treats and held them up. “You’re going to keep your mug shut about the spider, right?” Wagging his tail happily, Toby barked. “That’s what I thought,” he said, tossing the dog a biscuit." Once Trevor's beast is unleashed there's not going back, “where are you going?” Trevor suddenly asked, drawing her attention to the bathroom door where he stood naked and hard, she noted with surprise. “Get your a** back on the bed, Zoe. We’re not done,” he ordered softly as he ripped open a condom and slid it on." Trevor is really a handset person sometimes his woman has to fight him off, “I’m not hiding anything so stop groping my a**, you pervert!” she snapped as she renewed her struggle, but thankfully was careful not to kick out at him, which his balls truly appreciated." These Bradford men really are a hoot, “go,” he said, giving her another nudge that thankfully got her moving. “The sooner you get dressed, the sooner you can start fawning over me like a proper date. And remember, just because I agreed to go out on this date with you doesn’t mean that I’m easy. I expect you to do a little work to get me out of my pants.” I love this series.
CHECKMATE: Connor at times that boy is cruising for a bruising, "I tell you what, Rory," he said in a seductive whisper that would probably make other women tremble with need, but only managed to set her rage off by another notch, "if you're really good I might just let you make me some hot cocoa instead of just fetching my coffee." When needing to talk out his frustrations Connor finds it best to talk to a dog, "why the hell did I kiss her?" Connor muttered as he leaned back against his truck. Bunny barked his answer, tapering it off with a growl of disapproval. He sighed heavily even as he nodded his agreement. "Exactly. Woman eff with your head, buddy. Remember that." Rory, girl you kill me, "I was planning on going for your nipples, not your a**," she felt obligated to point out." Another book well done I love this series.
TRUCE: I love this series so I was so glad that another book was added to it. Robert he can be considerate at times, "if that's what you wish, but I should give you my name in case," his gaze dropped to her stomach. "you and I made a child tonight," he finished quietly." He really does care for Elizabeth and it shows in just how passionate that boy can be, "minx?" he asked breathlessly as she deepened the kiss. Good God, they were going to make love in the kitchen, he realized with a possessive growl as he took over the kiss." And he shows the utmost love for her at the right moments when she needs it the most, "Elizabeth was curled up on her side. She looked like an angel, his angel. His minx. He had to hold her. Now. He raised the covers and crawled beneath them." I really hope there's more books to come in this series.
I've read and reviewed each of the four books collected here separately, so this is really just for my own records. The rating is an average of the individual ratings: the first book, Playing for Keeps, scraped two stars from me, and the rest didn't earn more than one. So why are you reading them Octavia? you ask, and it's a valid question. I'm making a deliberate attempt to read more romance, and I basically lucky-dip books by picking random lists and working my way through the books on them. Well, a lot of people love this series, because one of those damn lists had five of these books on, I think, and I've made my way through the first four, trying to see what others see in them, and I've given it a good shot but I'm not getting it. Looking at the reviews, lots of people see this series as hot and funny, with likeable characters, and I'm glad they've found something they liked, but my reaction is the opposite. Unpleasant people being horrible to each other and it turning into romance does not do it for me, and with the constant focus on stuffing themselves and stealing food, my image of the Bradford men is pretty much giant walking tapeworms. It's not attractive.
A funny and entertaining series of adult romance books.
R. L. Mathewson’s Neighbour From Hell series was a random one I picked up from my Amazon recommendations and decided to give a try. I ended up enjoying the first one so I decided to go ahead and get this volume with the first four books in it to save myself from hunting down the rest of the series. The stories follow the same basic template but each have different characters and slightly different circumstances. An arrogant guy with an unfortunate obsession with food happens to live next door to a girl who is a bit different from the rest. Said girl and guy start off hating each other and doing anything they can to drive each other absolutely insane for entertainment purposes. At some point their games go too far, they realise they actually care about each other, and they end up living happily ever after. The book then ends with an epilogue that usually follows the sort-of-wedding and shows the happy couple further down the track with a few kids. Each story is sweet, romantic, somewhat cheesy, and hilariously entertaining.
I enjoyed reading each of these stories and will look forward to further books in this series. I would recommend this series to fans of other adult/new adult contemporary romance series such as Tiffany King’s Woodfalls Girls. Note that one of the books in the Neighbour Form Hell series is actually a historical romance. I would still recommend it to contemporary fans because it is easy to read and has just as much humour as the other books despite the historical setting.
I've read this book before. It's the first 4 Neighbor from Hell books in this one book. Because I don't want to give spoilers, I won't give details. I can say though, that in all of these books you will laugh your ass off, her humor is endless. You'll cry, feel righteous anger, sadness and imagine and/or feel their lust and love. RL Mathewson transports you to the world of her characters and keeps you there, on the edge of your seat, all the way till the end of each and every book. You can imagine each and every Bradford and their loved ones. I can honestly say that once I begin to read a book I can't put it down till I'm at the end. RL Mathewson is my favorite author and her "Neighbors from Hell" series are some of my favorite books.
The Bradford Men are neighbors from hell, they will drive you crazy, drive you to drink and will eat you out of house and home. They are sexy as hell and do not know the meaning of the word No and you will fall in love if you do not kill them first.
A great read. I always hate when a good book ends so knowing that each story is connected to the next by family relation made it interesting and fun to read. My favorite was the last book in this four part collection. I have a love for the old erra.
Read 1-3. Book 1 was really good, but books 2 & 3 were almost carbon copies, similar story lines and plots. Not reading book 4 (at least not right now) as I'm not into historical romances. I will continue the series in the future, just not read the books back to back.
OH!!! Side note...author used the word "that" waaaayyyy to much. When I was reading I had to remove the word "that" from the sentence (and THAT got irritating and old fast).
