After surviving a round-trip to hell, Piper figures she can survive anything. After all, she just lived through the devastating loss of her Consul apprenticeship and a torturous stint at boarding school. How much worse could it get?

Well, she wasn’t expecting a group of crazy radicals to burn her home to the ground and take her prisoner.

The Gaians, a.k.a. the crazy radicals, plan to rid Earth of daemons and they need Piper’s help. In exchange for her cooperation, they promise her the answer to all her problems: magic. With her own magic, she could reclaim her apprenticeship, the only future she’s ever wanted. But her magic comes at price — it could kill her.

With the life she’s always known crumbling around her and her future slipping from her grasp, she needs Ash’s help one more time. But the greatest danger of all lies within her, and no matter what she does, she may lose everything — including him.

“Ash had done so much more than capture her heart. He’d changed the very landscape of her soul.”

Still not as good as the first, but still by this point an addicting series.

Character wise we get a break from Samael the villain, which I was ready for by this point, especially considering how much brutality we saw from him in the second book. We finally get to see what Piper really is - and I totally dug it. The whole scene and visit with the big reveal was heartwarming and fascinating. I hope its a world we get to revisit again.

Romance wise Ash is still the man and still attached in that sweet way. What interruptions they can run into before any action happens though! His sister has turned into an annoyance that has to be endured unfortunately. There is a betrayal and turn from a friend I didn't see coming (in a way) at the very end but that didn't sour my experience - the enemies keep coming. Piper's father is still hard to stomach; I would have turned my back on the man a long time ago.

The beginning save of Piper was an epic scene - seriously, Ash and Lyre was awesome. Loved the scene and the bonding of the group, exception being the sister. This is the last book in the series that I truly enjoyed on this close-knit family level.

While I dig the bond the group has, Piper's continued angst of not feeling like she is good enough to run with them is a burden and overtakes the story a little too much. Her peace definitely doesn't last since her world is almost literally blown up from the start. From here the plot-line is action filled and tense with betrayals and turns, including the reliance on the dangerous ring that makes Piper the worst force to reckon with, but I feel it loses a little personability. I loved how the characters bond with each other, but that is all taking a backward step now that it's become a full-blown military style battle.

Humor, action, romance, and good character writing is still present and in strong force in this second sequel. Piper is becoming annoying but there is a saving grace for me when we discover who she actually is and the doors that may open later. This was my last 4 star rating of the series, because what started plaguing the pages in this one is more prevelant in the fourth and fifth books. Still worth a read, though, from the excellent five star first to the strange fifth.

I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This series is blossoming into something epic. Every book in this series is better than the last. All of my expectations were met with this book, and then some!

What I liked
The most incredible thing about this series is how the story grows into something just so epic. The story being told is so captivating. Everything syncs up with the story so magically. I love all of the details. The way that this plot was thought out is brilliant. My hats off to Annette Marie, because, seriously...epic.

The action scenes are mind blowing! The way that Annette Marie choreographs the action scenes is truly a touch of genius.

The story is so addicting. I was glued to this book. I had to know what was going to happen next. The story is told so passionately that you can't help but crave more.

I love that this book is not predictable. I like that there are twists that you don't see coming.

I love the way that the characters grow in this book. Especially Piper. She is becoming stronger and more sure of herself. Her growth in this book is really endearing. She struggles with her vulnerabilities, but she comes out on top. I have been rooting for her since the first book. Her character is so likable.

What I didn't like
The pacing at the beginning of the book seemed a little slow, but I think that is only because I was going through Ash withdrawals. Hehe. Other than that, I had no negative thought while reading this book.

Would I Recommend It
Yes. This book, and this series, is a work of genius. I advise picking this up because it will be your new favorite series!

I never did post a review for the first few books in this series!! Go me.

ANYWAY THO. Ash makes me so emo. Like it's ridiculous. I didn't expect this the first or the second or the THIRD GODDAMN TIME AROUND because clearly I don't learn.

I love him.

Dassit. That's all my suffering. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk™.

Holy shit. Definitely loved this book—and became obsessed with the series. I think I have a lot to say, most of I think good, some of it a bit rant-y. But wow.

Freshly home from boarding school, and on her 18th birthday at that, the last thing Piper expects is the only place she's ever known as home, the Consulate, to go up in flames and to be kidnapped by the Gaians - again. Even less she expects the only two people in her life she can call her friends to swoop in and safe the day. On the run yet again, Piper finds herself under serious time pressure: her newly unlocked magic threatens to tear her apart from within, and without help, she might not survive the next two weeks.
While collecting enemies left and right, the trio also finds itself surrounded by new and unlikely companions, treacherous alliances and dark powers.

Another action-packed installment in the Steel & Stones series that keeps its readers on their toes, and I devoured this just as much as I did its predecessors.
I'm still ridiculously infatuated with Lyre, but as much as I still love Piper as the female lead, I was a little disappointed that she took on the role of the damsel in distress quite a lot. What made her stand out from so many other UF heroines I've encountered so far, her ability to take care of herself even without supernatural powers, was what I was missing most in this book.
Everything else, though, was absolutely awesome, and I can't wait to read book #4.

Every now and then I come across a book that is incredibly special, a book that has that indescribable sparkle and shine that gives you the warm fuzzies inside, where the writing, the world and the characters blow your mind away. I know then that this is one very special author. For me that was Chase the Dark, one of my favourite books of last year. I have been lucky enough to receive Yield the Night as an ARC, and just let me tell you that each book gets better and better. Holy Moly, I want to stand on a rooftop and yell how bloody brilliant this book was!

I'm not sure I'm very good at doing justice as to why this book was so good but I'll try. Firstly Piper, I love her to bits, I can see her so clearly in my head, how she looks, behaves and comes across to the world at large. I just want to be her friend. Piper grew a lot, and I mean a LOT in this book and changed in ways beyond her imagination, but she stayed true to herself and just when you thought, ok, how many times can a girl get rescued and be taken down kicking and screaming, she kicked some awesome ass. She learns a lot about herself, both physically and emotionally and she is not afraid to learn from her mistakes and move forwards. I felt myself laughing, despairing and crying along with her. I felt this was a very emotional book and it touched me on a deep level.

I cannot forget Ash either, he is every bit a hero, ok maybe a bit twisted and dark (the best kind really) but he is there for Piper in every way possible and he stole my attention and my heart every second of page time. Lyre too we are learning is not the shallow incubus character that we thought he was and he kicks some major ass. He also gives some of the best laughs. Seiya is a character that makes Annette Marie stand out as an author, how can I want to hug and kill a character all at the same time? There is some major conflict here that I can't wait to see more of. The supporting cast too are amazing and as we see them all through Piper's eyes I changed my times so many times about them all. There is nothing predictable here.

To be honest not a huge amount happens in terms of events in this book but SOOO much happens. So much is said with so little, the true art of a story unfolding before your eyes. We have incidents with the Gaians and the Ra, both pushing the story along in ways I had not foreseen. I would not want to be in Piper's head trying to figure it all out! There is a true sense here of no real bad guys but many shades of grey and an understanding for everyone's actions. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

So many scenes stand out in my mind and I will be going back and re reading Yield the Night very very soon. I adored this book, can you tell? Just go read the whole series.

Thank you Ms Annette Marie for sending me this book in exchange of an honest review

Hmmm, honestly I'm not the biggest fan of the paranormal genre as most of the books could tend to be a bit shallow. But with the series, with each book it never cease to intrigue me. I have to say my favourite of all three book still has to be the first one chase the dark but nevertheless this book is still a light and entertaining read. *coughs* maybe that's a bit ironic given the fact that the protagonist has faced so much life and death situations

OKAY.... HERE WE GO

The plot, is interesting and fun to read however I think is not well developed enough and it's a bit predictable, everything seems to be a bit too easy and quick. By all means is fine but it could have been more detailed in some parts. However the tone and writing style of this book is really easy to read, great when you're in a reading slump.

OH AND I STILL REALLY LIKE THE WORLD BUILDING IS SO FREAKING AWESOME the fact that the daemons are separated in to the overworlds and underworlds is just so cool.

The protagonist Piper she continues to be in my good side, as she's still a kickass protagonist however I didn't like her as much as I did comparing to the previous two books, SHE DID THAT ONE DECISION THAT IS EXTREMELY STUPID THAT I KNOW FROM THAT MOMENT IT WOULD BACKFIRE. Regardless I still enjoy being in her head, Despite the fact she's not all mighty and great, I love how she knows she's being selfish... and she clearly knows her faults and wrongdoings. It's all fine to me because in the end she did the right thing.

ASH AND LYRE I JUST LOVEE THEM... I guess I like Lyre just a bit more because he is so freaking sweet but on the other hand Ash is all protective and stuff. I NEED A CHARACTER THAT HAS BOTH THEIR TRAITS

Overall I give it a full three stars :D highly recommend if you enjoy paranormal reads and the YA // daemon version of the fever series by Karen Marie Moning ;)

3.5 Stars!

I can’t help but look back to the first book of this series, Chase the Dark, it is still, by far, my most favourite amongst all three . Although, the second book, Bind the Soul, was also quite outstanding! Both has certainly set the bar high, for me anyways. ;) So, I come reading this sequel with high expectations. And, l must say, I was definitely entertained though left a bit confused.

The story picks up two months later... We learned that Piper did indeed attend the boarding school… And, let’s just say, the school couldn’t send Piper home fast enough. And home for Piper is, of course, the Consulate.

A day before her 18th birthday, Piper couldn’t be more excited to go home, with hopes that her father and uncle would have a welcome home/birthday surprise party waiting for her. :D Instead, she found, not only was her uncle and father not there to welcome her, but not long after she barely just settled in, a group of crazy radicals started burning her home to the ground… And, once again, she found herself abducted!

It was easy to figure out that the Gaians are the crazy radicals... they also weren’t that convincing on what they are doing so far. And this is just the start of the many the left me baffled.

Anyway, I was really more excited in reading Piper, Lyre and Ash’s reunion. Besides, who else was going to save Piper again, right? So yeah and yay! Lyre came in funny and Ash came in strong and scary. ;) Loved it!

I was disappointed with Piper’s reaction in seeing Ash daemon’s form… I really thought she was over that already. But, I get how that would play out on the later part of the story.

This sequel is more about Piper coming into her magic which also comes with a price, which was, that it could also kill her.

I loved how Ms. Annette Marie gave Piper a quite amusing, likeable and lively voice. Thus, giving her character such pleasant personality.

As for Ash, still my hero…. He is hot and all, but he hardly said much here though.... :(

Lyre was his usual adorable, funny, flirty self… Never fails to make me laugh.

It is action packed, fast paced, with great world building, and lots of humour. And, like the previous book before this, there is this huge, edge of your seat, climatic fight scene which was intense and just awesome, written with stunning details.

As for the romance? Well, there were sweet, hot kisses shared here and there that will leave you wanting more. (I was really hoping, by this time, they would graduate from that and have something more than those chased kisses.)

The story ended leaving so many questions and issues unresolved. In fact, it does feel like they kept on piling up. (To mention one would lead to spoilers, so I’ll just leave it at that.)

A huge Thank You to Ms. Annette Marie for the advance copy in exchange of an honest review. <3

4.5 read in one sitting stars

I have been a bad bad bad reader!

This is a buddy read but I have let down my buddies. I have read it in one day!!!!

Because it was gripping. Because there was non stop action. Because it was a life or death kind of situation. And just because I HAD TO KNOW HOW IT WOULD END!

Kind of like when demons shade and can’t help their instinct to overpower their rational brains. Well my reader’s instinct was telling me to just go on and finish this!

So what you’ll get here is:

-more amazing badass protective Ash!

-more mischievous but also kickass Lyre;

-a kidnapped Pipper (seems to be a trend here);

-a run for her life tied to her origins;

-amazing reveals about her ancestors;

-lots of action, betrayals, manipulation;

-an overtly protective sister that can be a b!tch and that I came to loathe;

-a choice choice Pipper made that I HATE. Honestly Annette, I hate when authors do that to their heroes!!!!!!

Have you read this series!

Thanks for reading!

I love the relationship that's developing between Ash and Piper! I really liked learning more about the Sahar stone and how it was made. I feel like we get more info about magic, glamours, and how daemons use them. And I loved getting to explore the Overworld and learning more about some of the daemons that live there.

Final rating: 3.5

In my opinion, Yield the Night offered a slightly more exciting and enjoyable addition to this series than the previous two books had. While it certainly improved on some weaker aspects, I found I enjoyed this most whenever quick, easy-to-follow action scenes popped up to break up any calm, slower segments. Those are times when the writing excels and I am wholly invested in the story. Often the large-scale, drawn-out battles/action scenes leave me feeling overwhelmed at trying to follow everything that's happening and some of the slower-moving chapters fail to hold my interest for an extended period of time.

Romance
I was glad to see the main romance is starting to take more of a central role - even if it's a bit shaky due to the dangerous nature of daemons and the characters' desires to protect each other even at the risk of their own lives/safety. However, I am noticing that some of the situations that Ash and Piper find themselves in are repetitive to the point that I can frequently predict the outcome of these tense moments because the characters end up making similar choices over and over. Now, these scenes are well written and I'm still rooting for this couple, but I'd like to see them put in different scenarios for a change.

General likes/dislikes
As a character, Miysis has both aggravated and surprised me. His importance to the story has slowly been increasing since book 1 and he plays a fairly pivotal role here. So far, I find his arc to be among the more unpredictable and I appreciate that. I also liked the revelation of the power behind the Sahar stone and why Piper is unique in being able to awaken/access it. My least favorite aspect was the whole Gaian storyline. While I did appreciate how Piper was presented with an alternate way of thinking about the daemons and their role on Earth, I ultimately felt that too much time was spent there. Since we got to visit the Underworld in the previous book, it seemed that a trip to the Overworld was in order. I always like the creativity that Annette Marie shows with these worlds and the aspects that make them different and the uniqueness of the inhabitants.

Sequencing and plot
It's nice that this series flows from one book to the next without major time jumps or interruptions, but I'm not always able to recall information about previous events (what happened, when they occurred in the timeline, etc.) which was occasionally frustrating. Even though the primary storyline isn't over, I appreciated how some of my questions were answered and some of the problems facing the characters were solved before the last book. As with the previous installments, there were still times where things happened quite conveniently and twists that I either anticipated or wasn't terribly surprised by. However, I acknowledge that there's a lot of positive aspects about this series. I would definitely encourage anyone who might feel frustrated with the first two books to persevere until you read this one as I see it as the strongest addition so far.

FLYLeF Book Reviews

Original Post: Yield the Night (Steel and Stone 3) at FLYLēF (www.flylef.com)

TAP. TAP. TAP. My mint-colored nails are tapping against the back of my Kindle. I’m looking at my reading progress for Yield the Night (Steel and Stone 3) by Annette Marie – 26% completed, a quarter of the book in – and I’m starting to loose interest. It seems like I’ve already read this: Piper is taken by the Gaians and Mona wants her to help them rid Earth of daemons with the promise of unlocking her magic. That was part of the premise in Steel and Stone 1, yes? I’m growing concerned that this would fall into the “filler” book category leaving me with no other choice but an unfavorable critical review for the lack of a new development.

To my chagrin, if the present version of me could travel back in time, she would be wagging her mint-colored nails at the past version of me and saying, “Oh ye of little faith.” Ms. Marie has my sincerest apologies for doubting her because this story is no doubt one of her best books, yet.

Against Piper's will, the Gaians unlock her magic and all her fears come crashing - she will die if it's not resealed. More than ever, she needs Ash's help, and in a heartbeat he (and of course the sultry Lyre) answers her call. In a race against time, they must find a cure before it’s too late thus starting a chain of life and death events that held me unmoved in my seat. For in the later half of the story is a revelation so great, it shatters any and all doubts that I had during the earlier chapters. I asked for a new development and she gave me a unicorn!

Now I tap, tap, tap because I have to wait until October to find out what happens to Piper and Ash in Reap the Nights (Steel and Stone 4). If only the current version of me could travel to the future version of me. Sigh.

How long are we going to be drug along before we get the love match we want?! Blah.

Annette Marie has nailed it again with Yield the Night, the third book in this series. It was just as captivating and thrilling as the first two books. I was so caught up with Piper, Lyre and Ash that I did not want this book to end. Thank goodness there is another book coming as I can’t get enough of this series!

I loved how Piper has grown and matured throughout the series and how she rises to every challenge. She is not perfect but puts 100% into all that she does and learns from her mistakes. Ash and Lyre both hold a special place in my heart – they both are very different, yet I can see why they became such loyal friends. I love seeing more of the ‘kick-ass’ side of Lyre and how he is much smarter than he leads others to believe. There is so much more to Lyre than first meets the eye.

I loved finding out more about Piper’s family and her heritage, and love how Ms Marie solved some of the mysteries yet left enough unanswered to keep me begging for the next book.

My favourite scene is when Ash helps Piper take the treatment for her headaches (I don’t want to give too much away). I’ll stick to paracetamol any day!

I cannot speak highly enough of this book and this series. Ms Marie has perfectly balanced all the elements to create an outstanding paranormal urban fantasy series.

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

Wow. Finished this book in a few hours. Such a fast-paced read (like the rest of the Steel & Stone Books).

Piper had an uphill battle ahead of her after losing her apprenticeship and having her Consul burned down just after her arrival. She learns the Gaians plans and why they are so interested in keeping her alive. She is also reunited with Lyre and Ash (and can we take a minute and thank Annette Marie for not exploring a love triangle? Piper has too much going on for that) and they team up again to face their challenges.

We also get some questions answered that I kept wondering about in previous books (Who is Vejovis? Will Piper learn to control her magic? What kind of Heamon/Daemon hybrid is Piper?)

The ending though. Oh the ending. I'm very glad there is a 4th book in this series or I don't know how to handle the cliff-hanger!

Overall, this was a great book and it is probably my favorite of the series. I like questions answered and this book did a good job getting the story moving forward while at the same time tying up loose ends. I don't typically rate books 5 stars but I can't find any flaws in this one! Can't wait for Reap the Shadows!

Piperel Powers Up

*****Spoilers*****

*****Spoilers*****

This book was a good continuation. I liked that Piperel found out where a part of her heritage came from and that the benevolent healer was her grandfather. Visjovis (sp.) but it was so sad I thought, that he was killed before she learned of it. I did think it was kind of callous that Piperel didn't care about him dying except that he couldn't help her seal her magic again. Now Piperel has magic that she can use that won't kill her thanks to visiting Natania inside of the Sahar. It makes me wonder what Natania will get out of it. But nevertheless, Piperel has a Daemon form and is a descendant of the rhijal (sp.), the fierce warrior people residing in the Overworld mountains. We get to see some manifestations of Piperel's powers and potential for more.

Ash and friends go along for the ride in this book once Piperel returns from the human boarding school but most of the interaction between Ash and Piperel were frustrating for me. Piperel goes from being capable to a sappy, clingy mess who can't do anything without Ash. I understand her wanting his support but jeez. Too, Seiya, Ash's sister manages to worm her way into Piperel's thoughts and ironically, Piperel realizes she's in love with Ash just as she leaves him for his own good because he won't stop risking his life for her. Sighs. That Ash might need help since he's losing control of himself doesn't occur to Piperel even though she's been able to bring him down from it multiple times. This development on it's own almost made me knock this book down to 2 stars for the idiocy of it. Then to add to it, Piperel decides to take off on her own to save Lyre and Seiya. Queue eye rolling and exasperation, especially since she left Ash before he was fully recovered knowing he only had a couple of days left. You'd think Piperel would want as much help as she could get when she thinks the Ra Daemons set Lyre and Seiya up for capture or double crossing or worse. Right, smart move Piperel to think of taking them on by yourself. Ugh. Just makes no sense.

Piperel has surely made an enemy or is no longer on agreeable terms with Miysis after their sojourn into the Overworld. She still has the Sahar, refused to satisfy her end of the bargain which was to blow up something for Miysis (turns out it would be detrimental to the riyujal (sp.), killed several of his people, fought him, and tried to kill him after his people stabbed Ash when Piperel reneged on her end of the bargain. Playing with Daemons but the nerve of Piperel to be affronted at what Miysis did in retaliation was laughable I thought. More eye rolling at that but still interested in where the story is going.

What can I say? How about A-M-A-Z-I-N-G third installment to the Steel and Stone series! For all the ones who complained about the last book, because Ash wasn't in it enough for you, I think you'll be very pleased.

Once again, the pace of the story is fast and furious once the Consolate goes BOOM. Piper is abducted (again) by the Gaians and discovers all their plans for her and daemon kind. Eventually, Piper, Ash, and Lyre are reunited and all is momentarily right in the world. For probably two pages. In hiding and on the run from the Underworld Warlord, Hades, the three friends (and Ashes sister) go on another life or death adventure that will keep your nose stuck in the book (or Kindle) until it's completed.

There is so much character development in this book. Piper kicks a lot of a$$ (as per usual) but she also gets it handed to her. We learn so much about her that I'm afraid if I delve any further in the subject that I will be spoiling stuff for you. Her relationship with Ash progresses quite a bit. Ash is still as magnificent as ever. He's suffering from PTSD brought on by his last little visit to the Underworld. Lyre plays the concerned friend. He's kind of the voice of reason. Its pretty obvious at this point that there will be no love triangle. Yay! Two characters, Seyia and Piper's dad, surprised me so much in this book that my opinions of them have totally changed!

Yep, it's another rollercoaster ride of action, drama, humor, and of coarse... romance! The ending wasn't so much of a cliffhanger as it was a preface for what's to come in book #4. I just didn't want it to end! So, thank you to Annette Marie for another awesome book I can read again and again!
I would recommend this book to anyone.

I want to shout from the mountaintops "HOLY JEEBUS, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!" But, as there are no mountains here I must make do with typing on the interwebs!

Piper's story has been high octane action from page one of Chase the Dark, and Yield the Night continues that beautifully. The story takes off immediately, and holds you in its thrall as it unfolds effortlessly from page to page. Annette Marie is a master artist at painting action sequences into such vivid relief you feel as if you can step into the pages and watch everything play out.

I love how Piper continues to evolve into a creature with whom one does not cross. We finally get an amazing glimpse at what she'll one day be capable of, and IT ROCKS!!! She may not realize it yet herself, but her purpose in the violent world in which she lives begins to clarify. Questions are answered about her Daemon heritage, and whether she will one day wield the life threatening magic she was born with. She also makes a difficult, but poignant, decision regarding Ash.

From action and suspense, to elements of comedy and romance, this book had it all for me. I tried to slow down and savor the story, but it simply demanded I devour it in mere hours. I just didn't want it to end, and I cannot wait until Reap the Shadows is released in the Fall - even though that feels like a bloody eternity! If you love Urban Fantasy or even have a passing fancy to dabble in the genre, the Steel and Stone series is a MUST READ!

Piper is kidnapped by her mother's terrorist group (again) and asked to join up. When she refuses, her mother subjects her to a dangerous procedure to unlock her magic...which starts to kill Piper. Ash and Lyre find her just in time to hatch a plan to track down the healer Vejovis to rebind her magic. They must make a bargain with Miysis and travel to the Overworld to find the healer, but things don't go to plan.

This is proving to be a great series. While I normally get annoyed with a heroine getting kidnapped and always in danger of dying from poison, etc., Piper manages to kick ass in between so it's not like she is a weak character just waiting for a dark, handsome dragon to rescue her all the time (even if said dragon DOES rescue her sometimes). And there is plenty of action and intrigue to keep my attention going and the pages flying by. Man, that ending though - there are now some little cracks in my heart that better be mended in the next book.

The Steel & Stone series has easily become one of my favorite Young Adult Urban Fantasy series. Surpassing many other popular ones from traditional publishers/authors. To be honest I was really nervous about how things were going to go with Piper going to human boarding school. Thank goodness the story picks up when Piper gets home to the consulate skipping all that school crap. The general gist is given of what school was like, but minus angsty school drama stuff. Yeah! (Besides we already knew human boys can't handle Piper.)

So I figured after we dealt with Ash's Samael problem the next step would logically be Piper's mother. Her mother and the radical Gaians. Nailed it. What I enjoyed most was that both sides of Gaians and Consulates could be seen. They both have good and bad. Though one is clearly a fanatical group that has no conscience. Willing to hurt humans and daemons for "the" cause. Even killing their own members.
She sighed. She must be jaded: being kidnapped just didn't faze her anymore.
So Piper gets kidnapped again. Yeah. But let us be honest, it's a trope that happens in pretty much every Urban Fantasy series. (Heck, and a lot of PNR titles.) Marie does the smart thing though. The kidnap reminds interesting and gives the world a lot of expanding. Especially what its like to be haeman outside of the Consulate, because they don't pick up haemons for training. In fact humans and demons kind of shun them, and they don't have teachers or schools for them. (Which is odd as I had assumed up until this point they'd have something for their magical training at least.) Family's disown them unwilling to deal, or cope, with them. Haemon children may have no idea that they are haemon until their powers manifest. It's scary and it's interesting seeing the Gaians prey upon them and the Consulates ignore them. It's an eye opener that the Consulates need to expand the job quota and get reorganized.

So I can predict this series pretty easily. I knew that the Gaians would be next and her mom would get what her fanatical heart wanted. I'm trying to be as vague as possible because I know not everyone is good at predicting where a story is going. I've enjoyed the mythology surrounding the Sahar Stone. Boom! It is sentient and I'm very happy about that, but considering that a soul has been trapped in there it's out for vengeance. Because she's still angry and very mad. Hell hath no furry, like a haeman scorned.
Considering Piper had risked her life to save Seiya from imprisonment and torture, the girl seriously lacked gratitude.
The progression of this series is wonderful! I love that Marie knows where this series is going to go, how each book should be, and doesn't give readers fillers. I will admit I did not like how Seiya was acting in this book. The short after this book helps to give readers more insight. But it still feels over dramatized. Why Seiya blames Piper for putting Ash at risk. Not to mention that I thought Seiya could be an awesome friend for Piper, not an enemy. It's something I've become aware of lately, and tired of, where other females hate/are jealous of the female lead.

Ah, Ash. He's back and the fire between him and Piper is amazing. I'm positive at this point that Lyre is simply a succubus friend to Piper. He understands that Ash and Piper have something. He'll flirt and be a succubus, but he's there for his friends. I like how much Lyre understands people and that he wants to help Ash out so much. But I doubt I'm going to get the bromance I've been dying for from this series. (Or a love triangle where Lyre hearts Ash. Girl can dream. There was sparks in that first book I tell you!)
She was done letting other people risk their lives for her. She was done letting Ash bleed for her. She would fight her own battles from now on.
Piper's growth is amazing! How she handles learning truths about her dreams and the reality of what's happening around her is perfection. She's grown up from the first book. (I'm so proud of her.) Her progress with the magic in her life is handled well and I love how rich the lore is. Instead of the Underworld Piper heads on over to the Upperworld (AKA Heaven). Which was amazing.

I'll be honest some of the hints and plots in this book where really in-you-face-obvious. Every page was sheer pleasure though, and at the very least it all made since how it got there. I'm bothered by how much of Quinn and Piper's relationship is ignored in these books. Heck, I think I understand the crazy mother more than I do Quinn! I'm pretty sure it can't be ignored in the next book. (But I do find my self saying that after each book!) Ash and Piper's relationship is on point. I love the buildup this series has created. The burn. The passion! The respect for one another. Not to mention trust. Thank you. Also, I love that it's not really a love triangle. Lyre is a friend to both Ash and Piper. It breaks my heart to think that I've got only two books left in the series.

Oh, hot book my mind is ready! But my feelings are so confused. Never let it end.

Sexual Content: Sexual content, minor dark themes talked about, some (hot as hell!) make out scenes, and still overall clean for the kiddies.

5/5- Fabulous, a beautiful obsession!

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Book three delivers and is every bit as great as the first two. As with the previous two books in the series, there is plenty of humor, a truly compelling love story with great chemistry, and tons of action and adventure. The scenes are so vividly written, you can truly imagine yourself walking (or almost drowning) in this fantasy world. Once again, the story was so suspenseful that I could NOT put it down. What’s more, it was never tedious or predictable. Just when you think you have reached the climax of action and can finally take a moment to breathe, the heroine is thrust into even worse danger. The action isn’t a series of gratuitous chase scenes either or I would have become burnt out on the adrenaline. I’m “all in” with this series because I care about the characters. As much as I love reading on the edge of my seat, the people and relationships are what really draw me in. The characters are realistically flawed, neither truly good nor evil. The heroes’ strengths, humor, and wit are offset by other weaknesses. On the positive side, Piper has all the attitude of a typical young adult, but comes across as smart and likable, never bratty. I especially like that Piper isn’t motivated by ambition or a need to dominate, but rather a need to serve a greater good. Then there is Ash who is sublimely hot and dangerous, yet so vulnerable and noble. Lyre is just a delight, providing all the safety and comic relief of the stereotypical gay best friend, but who just happens to be straight sexy. Any of the characters in the book (goodish or baddish) could have their own spinoff series. Also refreshing is that the author respects YA readers enough not to glorify or demonize opposing factions in the book in order to simplify war or betrayal. Instead, the author explains (not excuses) sometimes despicable behavior by providing plausible arguments and rationales. In book 3, Piper must challenge childhood assumptions, make difficult choices with limited information and insight, summon the courage to act despite realistic fears, and make sacrifices for love. Our lives in the real world may not be as epic, but we can all relate. The book once again ends masterfully with a new purpose identified for the next installment, rather than an arbitrary cliff-hanger.
