Rate this book
Aidan Montgomery hadn’t been prepared for Amelia Bradbury to walk in and then out of his life. He also hadn’t expected to find the powerful magic hidden deep within him for the last nineteen years, but he’s embracing it — finding more control and more answers every day. Now, with the help of Amelia’s best friend, Bethany, Aidan is on a quest to understand his destiny and find Amelia.

Amelia decided to stand by her duty, which meant walking away from her first chance at love. Trapped in Cresthaven at the Queen’s mercy, she spends her days with Micah — an ally she still holds at arm’s length — struggling to manage her heartbreak while keeping her mind focused on the task at hand. As she continues to unlock the secrets of the Keeper power, Queen Julia’s true motives reveal themselves, forcing Amelia to decide, yet again, how much she’s willing to sacrifice.

Will Aidan get to Amelia before it's too late, or will the very power that sustains them keep them apart?

Okay people hold onto your hats. My mind has been blown away on this one.
I got this book before you did because I am cool like that. :) (Okay, fine. Sorry for the snarkiness. My alter ego comes out at night and that is when I am writing this) Sorry, but this one is a little long.

I really liked the first one, and generally the first book in a series is the best for me. Not so this time around. Honestly, this book was a good two and a half times better than the first one. And that is saying a lot because the first one was pretty fantastic.

There are are couple differences in the writing from the first book to this one. The most obvious being the fact that the Pov's change. The first book was all Amelia. But this time it was like reading two books with Aidans POV thrown in. And now that I know more about Aidan, I like him more. He reminds me of that guy you friend zoned and then came to realize is super smexy after all. Yup, just like that. He has got some wicked cool powers and if I am kinda jealous of him.

The second difference to me is the fact that more background is added to these characters in this book than the first one, which, kinda threw me at first because generally you come to expect that in the first book. You know, for bonding purposes. The first book was an appetizer, this one is the entree.

The growth of this story is unfathomable (is that a word?) I think I will be reading it again. I will not be doing my character profiles because this is the second book in the series and it seems redendant to me. Although I gotta give a shout out to Dillon and Micah. Dillon, I just want to eat you up Little Man. And Micah, I am still rooting for you.

I may have a few favorite quotes laying around. Hold on, let me look.

Oh yeah! Here they are:

As her passion intensified, I watched red overtake her blue irises and all I saw was blood spreading across ice. This time though, I wonderd whether it would be mine.

I kept leaning down toward the map, squinting as I tried to figure out what exactly I was looking at. "What is this? What's behind the house? Is something wrong with the map?"
"Good gravy Aidan. Haven't you ever seen the labyrinth?" Bethany had stayed fairly quiet during the discussion, and her voice coming from the corner of the room surprised me.
"You know," she continued, "David Bowie? Hoggle? The babe? The babe with the power?"
[That one cracked me up :)]

Her darkness sucked the light of my flame into an abyss, like a black hole eating the particles of light and the pieces of stardust from the universe. But when he touched me, she would let go.

Cheers

Check out my review of Bound by Spells by Stormy Smith at Books Equal Awesomeness!

Last year, I read Bound by Duty and it was freaking fantastic! This series isn't really known about, but I think that everyone should read it!

This book was just as great as the first one! Bound by Spells is from a dual point of view, so in this book, we got to read what happens from Aiden's point of view, and boy was I happy about that. Aiden's perspective was really important in this book because he undergoes a lot of character development and we find out more about his past and other things. I love how he's playing such an important role in the plot and Amelia's world!

I got to learn so much more about the characters in this novel! In the first book, we are introduced into Amelia's world and Aiden, and the plot and all, but we didn't really get a full background story of what happened to all of the characters. This book fulfilled my desire to know more about what happened to the characters! We got to understand what happened to Aiden, Cole, and Bethany when they were younger. AND now I feel like I understand what Queen Julia's plan for Amelia is.

There were a lot of new characters introduced, and I've come to find myself finding some of them to being near and dear to my heart already! I loved Dillon, Micah, and Baleon! They were just awesome characters! I didn't really get to know Baleon or Dillon that well, but from what I read about them, they were loyal and just freaking phenomenal! And I loved the information that was revealed about Micah and how his childhood was. I truly feel sympathetic for him and I admire him for standing against his mother, even if he is quiet about it.

The ending was pretty sudden and I seriously need the third book. GIVE IT TO ME NOW.

This is the second book in The Bound series and it was equally as magical and suspenseful as the first one! The plot was absolutely amazing, then low and behold a whole new twist gets thrown into the mix! I honestly didn't think the plot could get any better, then BAM I'm blown away!

In the past I haven't been a big fan of alternate POV, but I think it may be my new favorite thanks to the author Stormy Smith! Each POV was perfectly balanced, I felt like I got to spend equal time with Amelia and Aidan which I loved.

The ease in which I connected with the characters was awesome! This book picks up right after book one, and introduces some new characters! But let me just say (and I know I said this in regards to book 1 as well) but I just adored Bethany! That girl can make anyone smile, even in the toughest of times! Stormy, if you are reading this can we please have a novella in Bethany's POV? Hey even a short story will do!

I am going to end with saying that I cannot wait to dig into book three Bound By Prophecy! If you haven't read this series yet you can check out my review HERE . Within the pages of this book there is tons of awesome magic and Amelia kicks some serious ass! I loved watching both her and Aidan's powers grow stronger throughout the book!

You always worry starting a sequel will be any good as the first amazing book in the series you had read. So when reading Bound by Spells I was scared! but I really didn’t need to be it was incredible!

of course when reading Bound by Duty the ending (won’t spoil it for you but your left with your mouth hanging open from the out come) The moment your like “I NEED THE NEXT ONE NOW” Amelia is just as badass and brave as the first book! you find yourself pining for her and her relationships! *cough Cough* you know who.

In this novel Amelia and Aidan are trying to understand their powers and trying to get through their tough situations. I ship these two so much! I never shipped a ship so harder! Great action, great fantasy, great characters such as Queen Julia! I really liked her character she was such a good villain! she kept you on edge! the whole book did really. I found myself not wanting to do anything but just sit on my bed and read this book! such a page turner. So much going on and so many revelations happened. Stormy has a way of grabbing your attention and never let go! her writing style is amazing! next up! Bound by prophecy <3

I feel like any book starts off with a line like, “I woke up naked-again.” is going to be something special. I feel as though I needed to be there for him, just can’t have him waking up all naked… with no one around… I volunteer as tribute (wait, wrong book, it’s okay, I’ll still watch over him) In this case, I was definitely right! Bound by Spells took all the things that I loved about the first book, Bound by Duty, and made them all ten times as awesome!

I absolutely adored the duo point of view with both Aidan and Amelia. It added so much to the story to be able to see each of them taking their own journey and growing towards the bigger picture. Aidan really shined in this book. *swoon. I couldn’t get enough of his story. Sometimes you need to look back and understand the past to be able to move forward and really devote yourself to a future. This couldn’t have been more true for Aidan. I was really surprised where the story took him, but in the best way. Amelia was fantastic in Bound by Spells. There was so much growth from the first book till this one. Here’s the thing about a good heroine, they don’t have to have it all figured out, they can be scared, or unsure, just so long as they’re strong, compassionate, and use the fear to fuel them to do what is right. Amelia is a great heroine, she was the embodiment of all of those things I believe to be good. I enjoyed watching her grow. She’s still struggling with her power in this book, but she’s learning, and she’s got an iron will, so you know that it is only a matter of time. I think this journey to get there is what is going to make her into someone strong and well rounded enough that can actually control the power she has inside of her, which is crucial.

If I’m being honest here, all the characters really were enchanting in this addition to the series. I feel like the fantasy element stole the show in BBD, which I loved, but I also appreciated the balance that Bound by Spells brought by giving us such rich, multidimensional characters to really root for, or against. That’s right, even the evil Queen was a star in this show! Micah’s dear old mum was much more heinous than I was anticipating. Queen Julia really stepped up her evil game, and I hated that I loved it so much! I am appalled by her actions, but I also couldn’t look away. It was interesting to learn some things about what started her down the dark path she is on now. It always starts with a dash of heartbreak doesn’t it?

Jen can we finally just agree that Micah is not a douchecanoe? I saw where you had some reservations in Bound by Duty, but come one, he had to have redeemed himself enough to appease even you in this one…..right? Say it Jennifer! You say you like Micah now! NO, I WILL NOT.

NO I DON’T, AND I QUOTE “You could have done something – ANYTHING – and you did NOTHING. THIS IS YOUR FAULT.”

Ok. Now one thing I know Jen and I both agree on is how absolutely kickass Bethany is! So many secondary characters seem to fall into two categories these days, the first of which, and maybe most used, being what I like to call the stepping stone category, which means that they are simply there to accentuate all the good things that your main character is, by being everything that person is not. EX…. The whore to the virgin, the liar to the honest, the shallow to the soulful and deep, I think you get my drift. Or the second category, the filler category. Which is quite simply someone you get to look upon briefly who is not your main characters but really brings nothing substantial to the story by being there. Bethany basically gives the middle finger to both of those categories, and then curtseys, because she’s polite and just plain awesome like that!

Now I’ll stop blabbing on and on and let Jen get a word or two in here!

Bound by Spells was pretty much everything I want in a sequel. It isn’t always about the main characters, sometimes it’s about the secondary characters, the ones who build up the back of the story. Not only did I fall back in love with Amelia and Aidan, I fell in love with some unexpected characters too (NO NOT MICAH, STILL A TOOL. NO TRICIA YOU CAN’T CHANGE MY MIND).

Still at the top of my list for favorite characters is Bethany! I love her, I love her attitude about the entire situation. Even faced with being “human” she didn’t back down. Even with facing her kidnappers, she stood her ground. She is the type of person you want in your corner at all times. Bethany has enough spunk to put the most vicious person/animal in its place.

I can say with a lot of honesty that I walked into this book thinking that I would only like the cast of characters the way they are, and no more. I love them more now, and there’s more of them to love too. My heart broke for Elias and Dillon, but the end spin on Bound by Spells just about had me in tears of happiness. I never would have imagined that outcome. I felt like the Grinch.

Which leads me to the crazy, off her fucking rocker, all Heil Hitler, little miss genocide Queen Julia. and if you think for a minute that my description above is over exaggerated then you just wait my friends.

“Mages were put in charge of the people because we are the purest lines. We are not animals.”

“Ensuring that our bloodlines are pure and we have eradicated all those animals.”

“I have spent my life trying to cleanse our people of these mixed races and put the classes back where they belong.”

I mean seriously, Queen Julia is…. I really have no words for what she is, I feel like every time I read something that comes out of her mouth, I need to gear up for WWIII. No joke, this woman is batshit crazy. I felt the need to apologize to all Immortal on behalf of the Genocide Queen. She actually made me chuckle a few times with the amount of crazy that was spewing out. The Queen in all seriousness reminded me of Hitler, and somehow I don’t think she’s going to let up anytime soon.

And this also leads me to one of my most unlikely favorite characters, Baleon. I didn’t think I would ever say it, but he is one of my favorites and I have a feeling it has to do with a certain someone being bound by a spell (heehee) and a Hunter who put it there. I think that Baleon was that Hunter, and for that he saved someone who is extremely important.

I can’t wait for the next book. But these cliffhangers are killing me!! KILLING ME, I TELL YOU!!! Pretty please don’t make us wait long!

Thank you so much Stormy Smith for giving us the opportunity to read and honestly review Bound by Spells!!

An excellent follow up to Bound by Duty! This second installment picks up right where the first left off. I was fortunate enough to have this next book handy, otherwise the cliffy from book 1 may have been a lot more painful. I always appreciate when the sequel just gets right to the point, no dawdling or lengthy recaps, just a head-first dive into the heart of the story. So major kudos to Stormy for that!

I absolutely LOVED the dual POV! Hearing Aiden’s thoughts and following his story line as he struggled to find himself and learn more about his past made the original story line that much more intriguing. Not to mention that fact that he’s on a mission to rescue Amelia *Swoon!* with the help of some new friends. I was super curious as to how he came about his hidden powers since they just kind of came out of nowhere, and I was even a bit anxious, hoping it wouldn’t be some far-fetched scenario, but it was definitely well played, in true Stormy fashion.

I would actually like to hear from Micah’s POV too. He’s had an interesting (and somewhat traumatic) past as well. Being a royal and having the Queen as his mother hasn’t been easy for him, and I’m just dying to get inside his head and explore his feelings! Perhaps a little short story dedicated to him is in order ;)

I honestly just love everything about this magical world the author has created. She’s given us such a unique and diverse cast of characters, yet their personalities all work together and make this journey even more interesting. The story plays out much like a movie would, seamlessly and with great attention to detail. I thought Bound by Duty was amazing, but Bound by Spells absolutely blew me away!

Oh and I guess I should probably mention Amelia too since technically this whole series exists because of her. She’s amazing, end of story. But seriously, she’s pretty awesome; totally selfless, brave, insanely powerful, and headstrong. I just know she’s going to work some incredible magic and set things back to the way they were before the Queen got all screwy. I’m rooting for her 110% and I’m convinced she’ll deliver!

I can’t wait to get my hands on the third book, Bound by Prophecy!

This is one of those books that when I finally got the chance to sit down and read it, I didn't want to put it down. I should be studying for a major test so I can graduate, but this clearly wouldn't be put off! First, I LOVE how Stormy switched between Amelia's and Aiden's POV!!!! I loved hearing what was going on from both sides of the situation, let's start with Amelia.
The book starts with Amelia saying an incredibly heartbreaking goodbye to Aiden, my heart seriously broke the first time I read that scene, and Stormy describes the pain so vividly, I could feel it. My heart hurt for them both.
Amelia is prisoner of the Queen and puts her people and destiny before her love. We find her struggling to contain the power of the Keepers within her, unless she is wearing the cuff her mother got her, which has powers of its own! I loved reading about her learning to interact and work with the magics within her. She is such a strong heroine, she didn't wallow, or feel sorry for herself. She picked herself up, and fought. She's a heroine any girl could look up to. She's inspiring, and determined to change the tragic fate of her people, especially as she begins the true horrors that Julia has put her people through.
Then there is Aiden's POV, which was just as amazing! He goes from broken, unwanted little boy, to (SPOILER ALERT..possibly) king! Alright, I knew from the last book that he would be the "mate" in the prophecy, but I still loved that it was confirmed! We get to see Aiden come into his own as a shifter and leader, which was equally exciting! Of course we can't leave Bethany out, she's along for the ride and is just as feisty as ever. I'm still rooting for her and Micah <3
We meet some really great characters in the book, that end up explaining so many of the things we were left wondering about. We also lose a character that just broke my heart, and by the end of the book we find Amelia barely holding on. I really can't wait to see where Stormy takes the next one!

If you enjoyed Bound by Duty, you will absolutely love Bound by Spells. Bound by Spells had me spellbound. :)

Bound by Spells continues the gripping tale of Amelia and Aidan journey to restore order to the immortals.I enjoyed how the author alternates the point of view, it creates a storyline that allows the readers to experience the characters as the story unfolds. I enjoyed getting to learn more about the back story and more in depth look at the characters. I feel that this was a wonderful continuation of the story and I can't wait to find out how the rest of their story unfolds.

I was given the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book by the author from a contest on Facebook. I was excited after I was announced as a winner but after reading the book I am absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity. Stormy Smith is a talented writer and I can't wait until she writes more.

"Featuring a cast of mages and shapeshifters with unique magical abilities, one destiny-shaping prophecy, a genocidal megalomaniac, and a budding, heated romance (or two!), this book is paranormal gold! Read the first book in the series first, of course, but once you finish this one you're sure to be salivating for the next release in this not-to-be-missed romantic paranormal series."

This series continues to captivate and surprise. The Queen... Just when you might feel a little bit of compassion for her, bam! Right out the window! This book is told from Aiden and Amelia's perspectives. There is so much that goes on that you find it hard to put the book down. Next book can't come soon enough.

4.5 stars -- Another beta read!!

There was so much I loved about this book, but I think the thing that really raised it above the first book is the addition of Aidan's POV. And not just b/c we all love Aidan (b/c come on, we all do). But the nature of the story as it left off in Bound By Duty demanded that 2 separate stories be told, and it would have been a terrible loss to not have that other half of the story. I ended up learning so much more about the prophecy, the AniMage's, the history, just from what Aidan was going through and the people he encountered. When I first started reading this book, I wasn't sure how I was going to like the alternating chapters, b/c they really are completely separate stories. But I really loved how they gradually got closer and closer together until they intersected at the end in such a profound way.

Now don't get me wrong, Amelia's story was epic in its own right. And quite frankly, I wasn't always totally on board with her in BBD. But she just grows leaps and bounds in this book and becomes a heroine that I genuinely like, admire, and am looking forward to seeing how her future is going to play out.

Bethany was still awesome (though she was a bit more fun with Amelia in BBD). Micah, on the other hand, well that I just didn't see coming. Micah AND Baleon. I'd say more, but basically he surprised me in a huge awesome way, and I just did not (which I should have) expect his role to be quite so big. It was so refreshing to get to see what he was about, and learn about his life pre-Amelia.

Now, strangely enough, you know what my favourite part was? Queen Julia. Well, favourite might not be the right word. But basically, Queen Julia turned into this bizarre 3 dimensional evil character. Bizarre? Bizarre because she just wasn't the usual paranormal villain. She...she is....I don't know. She's like an Immortal Hitler. She is so unbelievably power hungry, but she believes with all her soul that she fights for the right. It's just...well....different from what I've come to expect, and I appreciated that.

Then there was Dillon. And more Charlie. Yup, all still epically awesome in the adorable, wise, unexpected characters.

I always love it when a sequel is even better than the first book....that's when you know a series is going to be epic.

Bound by Duty, the first book of this series, was fantastic. This second book, Bound by Spells? Even better. With the excellent writing continuing on, the storyline becoming deeper and more intense, and characters that continue to grow, evolve and surprise us-there's no sophomore slump to be found here. In fact, Stormy Smith has quickly found her way to the upper echelon of my favorite paranormal authors list with her enchanting stories and the ability to just snatch me out of my everyday life and set me down in the middle of this amazing world she has created.

At the end of Bound by Duty, we are left with a doozy of a cliffhanger when Amelia chooses to go with Micah instead of staying with Aidan. We spend most of this second book with Amelia and Aidan apart from each other, both trying to survive and deal with their own situations, both learning more about themselves and what they are capable of...and both trying to get back to each other. But not knowing who to trust, what are truths and what are lies, and learning how to deal with their own powers will throw a whole bunch of twists and turns into their paths-and make for a truly engaging read.

The tension continually builds, and then the action and intensity starts really ramping up until everything comes to a head near the end, and every moment of it all you'll be absolutely entranced and won't want to put this book down. And for me, up until the huge climactic scene at the end, I was constantly chanting in my head "they have to make it back to each other!" Ongoing character growth also continues to add depth to the story, engaging you further and will result in the reader becoming thoroughly invested in not just the main characters' lives, but in the supporting characters' lives as well.

Emotions going haywire, constant excitement and characters you will come to know and care for coupled with the author's creative imagination results in another 5-star read and has earned this book and series a place on my top recommendations list. If you are a fan of paranormal romance, you are not going to want to miss reading this series.

Oh, and did I mention the ending left everything wide open? Yes, a cliffhanger. Yes, I'm totally hooked. You will be too.

Bound by Spells takes everything that was established in Bound by Duty and amps it up 20 notches. I cannot get over the character development all-around. It is rare that I like a sequel better than the first book, but Bound by Spells surpasses the first for me. Both Amelia and Aidan have come into themselves in a way that I never thought that was possible. Julia is as evil as ever, and even her rule gets a bit of an explanation that we didn't get in the first novel.

This book is all about the internal struggle that everyone has to wage. War and strife forces people to make sacrifices on both sides and I think that was represented really beautifully in Spells, whether it was a current moment in time or through a flashback with one of the older characters.

I also loved that both Amelia and Aidan were firm in their love for each other. While Amelia had some fleeting doubts about whether Micah was her mate, it was always pushed away and thought of as gross which I appreciated (some authors would have opted for a love triangle there and I like that this novel never did.

The development of the Keeper magic was insane, and the plotline of everyone breaking their binding placed by other people was really interesting. Virtually all of the main characters had some sort of bind to break, and by having that bind broken, they grew. Now I get the title ;)

I just loved this one. Stormy really outdid herself. The series does not come more highly recommended.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Amazing book! Stormy's imagination goes to new heights in this new book in the bound series! I couldn't put it down for a second as I was glued to the edge of my seat the whole time.

The magic and the intrigue in this one was amazing! You really got to know the evil queen in this one as well and man is she one scary bitch! Well done Stormy! Evil does not even begin to describe her!

You really got to delve into the Animages as well and I really liked learning about there backgrounds and histories, being so much a part of nature I felt a deep kinship with them and was rooting for them the whole book.

Stormy is an incredible author with amazing talent! If you haven't read her books your missing out! Make sure to get your hands on a copy today!

Loved! Loved! Loved!

I waited impatiently for book 2 in the Bound series, and it was definitely worth the wait. Told in alternating views, we get to see exactly what both Amelia and Aidan are going through during their separation. I loved that their voices were distinct. I didn't have to look at the chapter heading to see who was talking. We go deeper into the Queen's mind to see why she's done what she's done and Amelia tries to work with her Keeper powers. Great follow up to Bound by Duty and now I wait impatiently for book three!!

This book was amazing and so much more, I LOVED it!!! It was such an amazing sequel to the first book and answered so many questions I had from the first one. We get to see Aidan's point of view in this one and it's nice to see how he sees things. I love how devoted he is to Amelia and how we finally learn about his past and where he comes from. Amelia also grows so much in this book and I can't wait to see where this journey takes her and Aidan!

So, so good! The magic, the love, the connections are amazing. Now to wait for the next instalment. I loved reading Aiden's pov and how it felt to shift, to pick up all his emotions, all his fears, his love for Amelia, his protectiveness for his pack, the dominance in him, the alpha that shines through, loved it all. Seriously, can not wait for the next book.

I really enjoyed the concept of the world in this novel. The world seemed to be really thought out and it was completely whole and thoughts that made up the world. In the first book there was a lot of world building, but in this book it seems to build up even more which I enjoyed. To touch more on that I like that in the first book we didn't know everything about the world, so Smith left a lot out that she could later come back to and further describe it to us readers.

This book Smith went for a duel-point of view with her two main characters (Amelia and Aidan) which obviously had to be done because of the events of the pervious book. I can honestly say that I liked that much better than the single point of view in the first. (Amelia) I thought that sometimes you could tell the difference in the voices of the characters, but at other times, the way that each character thought about their inner conflicts was very similar and I would have liked to have more of a difference between the two voices. To be frank, it didn't happen that often when the two characters sounded the same in their minds, just light touches here and there. (However, it lost about .5 star and 5% from me there.)

I liked the arc that the novel took. Both characters had inner problems about who to trust and who not to trust the enitre book, and I think that they made the correct choices as they went through the book. To be honest how the book lost the other star and 10% is from the pacing of the book, I thought that it could be very slow moving at times and I just had to set it down, go do something for a few minutes, and come back.

All in all, I have really enjoyed both books in this series by Smith and I think that I will check out some of her other works.
I will now discuss spoilers down below!!!!

CAUTION THIS IS NOW THE SPOILER PART OF MY REVIEW!! (reader discretion is advised)
I am going to talk about each character!

Amelia:
In the first book I thought is was really annoying how she would just lash out at people and not control it as well, but in this book you realize that it is the Keeper that made her more like that. I thought is was dumb of her to be like "Micah could be my mate. Micah might be my mate. I really think that Micah might be my mate." NO! NO girl. If he was your mate you would be able to feel a pull from him to you!! I mean come on get with it girl! :) I liked how she didn't fully trust Micah and everyone she came into contact with because her whole life has been lie after lie after lie. And I liked that Smith didn't forget her own character's back story and make them into an entire different person. #props I am also very glad that there is no love triangle involved. (Yes, I know there kind of is, but I really feel that Micah genuinely likes Beth and wants to be with her, so that doesn't make the love triangle count. Okay? Okay.) I also thought that Amelia was doing the right thing at the end of the novel to save those women by letting out the Keeper, her main goal of sorts it to save her people and she was doing just that. I believe that Amelia was getting really close to getting that part under control with the cuff, but who the hell knows where the cuff is now! Amelia is not my favorite character, but I really enjoy hearing her story through her eyes.

Aidan:
Aidan is my favorite character!!! By far. I love how much backstory he has and how much it actually makes sense, so you know Smith though it well ahead of time and didn't throw it in last minute. Aidan's character development from the beginning to the middle is amazing. Right away he is so torn up about Amelia leaving him, that he doesn't think about how she must be feeling and how it hurts her too. However, after he starts to learn her story, he realizes that he has one and only goal: Get Amelia Back! After that point he is so focused on what he needs to do in order to get her. In order to do that, Aidan has to know who he is first. He unlocks his past and realizes that he is Amelia's mate and the King of the Anti-Mages, but not only that he is part Hunter because some Hunter put part of himself in Aidan. (Like WTF, some weird things are going down.) But no, Aidan grows into himself somewhat to get into the "summer home" and get Amelia out. He still doesn't fully understand his powers, but he has his entire "pack" behind him. *Love his growing friend-ship with Beth*

Micah:
He is so torn up. Micah knows that he can't control how is parents are, but it is haunts him. Many people don't trust him because his mom is the Queen, and he is the prince who is engaged to Amelia. He can't control that though, and I think that he wants to make up for everything that people have tied his name to. I also think that he is trying to be a better person and take his psycho mother down. I honestly think that he doesn't think of Amelia as a romantic interest and only as a friend and I think that Beth is who he really wants to be with. In his relationship with Amelia he wants to show her that he can be trusted, so he honestly answers all of her questions and tells her the truth as much as he can. I believe he is on #teamgood. I hope in the next book Aidan and him work it out to have some kind of bromance thing, and then Beth and Micah get back together! (fingers crossed)

Beth: She doesn't want to be the odd man out, even though she is the only human in this supernatural world. I lover her personality and how she is so down to earth, but doesn't put up with any shit. (Fav. scene was when she saw Micah for the first time after they got back and she laid into him. It was so great!) I love how much her friendship with Aidan had grown in this novel. They support each other fully and rely on each when they believe they have no one else they can trust. (Prediction: Something happens with Beth to make her some sort of Immortal as well like maybe it is the same thing that happened to Aidan with the Hunter and him giving part of himself to Aidan) (idk though)

Cole: We didn't see that much of Cole, but what we did see I liked. Cole loves his sister and is fiercely protective of her! His keeper powers are still really confusing so hopefully Smith with explain more about them in the next book. We learned some of the background between Cole and his dad which was sad about what he thought of his father for the longest time. I think he will have to overcome his father's death to help out with Amelia's problem at hand.

Dillon: Such a cute little boy. I knew Cora was his mom the moment we met her! I really enjoyed the parts he was in and I love the relationship that is growing between him and Aidan. Excited to see him in the next book.

Bale: Really enjoyed his character! I want to know more about his back story and more about him and I am excited to see more of him after he recovers.

Rynna: I was shocked when I found out she was the Queen's sister int he beginning. (I think that was when it was reveled. I don't remember.) I liked here motherly like role she has with Amelia and the good aunt to nephew relationship she has with Micah. I am excited to see what her character will help part take in!

Rhi: WTF! He is the guy Amelia's mom was suppose to marry! Gross! Honestly I think he is a dick and I am excited to see Will go at him hopefully.

Queen La Bitch: Okay yeah she loves her people blah blah blah but what the heck is her problem. The lengths she will go to, to get her way is appalling! I can't wait till the end when the prophecy comes true!

Nathaniel:
What a good dad! He did not want to taint his children's memories of their mother, so he let them hate him for some of the things she did to help the keepers. He took away so of Cole's memory so he though it was just dad when they gave Cole some of the keeper power. And he hid himself away from his daughter so the Queen could not know that much about Amelia. I am sad to see that he is gone, and I am a little nervous to how Amelia will react after she hears the news, but Cole took it very hard. (who wouldn't though) I will miss him in the rest of the series.

Pregnant Women: I feel bad for all of them and what they had to go through when they were held captive by the Queen. I am glad Cora got her son and Nelly got her husband.

Elias: I am glad he got his wife back! I really enjoyed the almost big brother role he took on with Aidan as he helped Aidan figure out who he is.

Theories about next book:
- Bale is the hunter who gave part of himself to Aidan.
- Beth and Micah will make up when she hears the whole story.
- The Queen will try get Micah on her side somehow (maybe? idk).
- We will lose other characters.
- Amelia will wake up after the mating process is done and Aidan Huntered magiced the keeper into a controlled spot.
- We will learn more about the Keeper, Aidan's powers as the alpha, and the mating powers that go along between Aidan and Amelia.

*I purchased this book and audiobook because I so enjoyed the first one!

We are drawn further into the world of Mages here. We learn more of the Mage magics along with the Hunters and their abilities. This story is from the POV's of Aidan and Amelia. Both are in different places in this book. Both are learning different things. Though much of what we learn here solidifies the ideas we had from book one and gives more details of those impressions, along with uncovering additional troubles for Mages.

****FULL REVIEW****
Aidan's heart aches over her willing to leave him just hours ago, with Micah. All he wants, is to follow his heart and rescue Amelia from the grips of the mad Queen. Aidan needs to connect his wolf with him by breaking the bind placed on him to learn if he's what the Animages believe he is, even with each day's passing he becomes more magically powerful than the previous day. Aidan needs to be able to use his powers and his wolf to help the hidden Animages and his love, Amelia, before the war starts.

The magic room she stays in at Cresthaven quells the pain of the Keeper's power, but "She", raged inside her at leaving the place that became her hearts home. Amelia's on the inside now. If she can control the Keeper and her magic, and play the Queen's games, she might be able to find out more information to help all Mages. However, in a place she's told repeatedly that she's not safe, is the one person that claims he can protect her here, in the Queen's home, trustworthy?

Kristin once again draws me into this world with her talented voice. With different voices and tones for each character I'm able to drop right into the world once again and not get lost. The best part, the characters from the first book return and all sound EXACTLY the same as book one! Kristin's voice acting is so impressive, I don't feel I have to see facial expressions to know how the characters are feeling. Her voice tells it all. And I feel she has connected with this story and characters on a level that feels this story is hers and lives as them. So much emotion! Well done!

We are drawn further into the world of Mages here. We learn more of the Mage magics along with the Hunters and their abilities. There is more here that we didn't know, or Amelia as well. The things plaguing the mages are deeper than expected. There is also a twist with the Hunters. There was a brief mention about the Hunters when they were bound to Queen Julia and that some may not agree to her ways, but there is a hint of it coming to life here. I'm curious what will come with the Hunters in the future story.

This story is from the POV's of Aidan and Amelia. Both are in different places in this book. Both are learning different things. Though much of what we learn here solidifies the ideas we had from book one and gives more details of those impressions, along with uncovering additional troubles for Mages. Aidan is learning first hand of the Animages and his own abilities. Amelia is seeing Hunters and learning pieces of her mother, an Elder. Amelia still struggles with the power in her and hopes to learn something that will help calm and control the Keeper in her, that seems to be a dangerous entity. Both these characters, and many along with them, are determined to fight for what they believe in and what they want. The strength of this determination will help keep them going.

Aidan's thoughts in the beginning are a reminder to us of the important people and events of what had happened with them, friends, and family. Amelia does touch on some history, but I'm glad she doesn't to much as it would be repetitious of what Aidan remembers or learns.

We get the insight into Aidan and his thoughts. We learn of when Aidan first started changing and what brought it about. But! There is a bind on him that needs further breaking. Oh the history that belongs to Aidan. I'm so glad he got to learn the things he does about his family and what happened to them. Aidan is more than he ever imagined, and is trying to understand it all as it hits him as fast in this book as it did in the last for Amelia.

Bethany, oh Bethany. I love her sarcasm and direct path of discussions. She brings a smile to my lips, even when she's hurting from her boyfriend leaving. Bethany is the only human in the battle here. And she's more determined than any to do something about her friend being held by the mad Queen.

We meet new characters! The one that sticks out in my mind is Dylan. He's so adorable! I love his personality and his attraction to Bethany. He's extremely loyal to Aidan, Bethany, and a few others. He tries his hardest to be proper calling people Mr. and Ms. (Mr. Aidan, Ms. Bethany). He's young, you can tell but he's just a cutie-pie.

I'm loving this world and the characters. I need to know how it all works out for everyone, Amelia, Aidan, the Mages, the Hunters, and even the crazed Queen Julia. This book does end on a bit of a moment that makes me say, 'No, it can't be the end of the pages.' But I'm also happy where Amelia ends up, it's just... well, it leaves me anticipating the next book like the first book did.

I'll be counting down, waiting for it's release!

Note: I received an advanced reader's copy (ARC) of Bound by Spells in exchange for an honest review.

What a blast!

Bound by Spells, the second instalment in the Bound series by Stormy Smith, picks up where the first book, Bound by Duty, left off. The opening chapter is a powerful one with interesting, even slightly scientific but enjoyable, descriptions of Aidan's transformation.

Also narrated from the first person, the second book alternates between Aidan's and Amelia's viewpoints, each being in a different place. These shifting perspectives keep the reader on edge while also showing us events happening at the same time.

As Bound by Spells progresses, we get many reminders of scenes mentioned in the first book, so one does not feel lost or confused, but rather the reader is able to connect events better and begins to make connections as the characters themselves do.

Amelia continues to be bound by her duty towards her family and her people. In the final scene of the first book and the opening scene in this one, she is seen leaving Aidan, not because she wants to but because she has to go with Micah and Queen Julia, whom we see more often that we would like in this instalment.

Since the novel picks up where the first left off, we are thrown directly into the action, which is quite fun and different from most books, which start out slow.

Bound by Spells is rich with characters both from book one and new ones. I particularly loved Dillon, the ten-year-old AniMage, and the way he talks and how he is quite wise and brave for a child. Also, we get to see Nathaniel, Amelia's father in a new light.

Apart from Amelia, Aidan is a centre-piece in this instalment. We see his character grow and develop, in more ways than one. His love and care for Amelia are enviable.

As with the Bound by Duty, Amelia's uncontrollable sarcasm gets the better of her and lands in worse trouble than she is already in. I can personally relate to Amelia at this point, particularly as sarcasm gets me into trouble – but not as life-threatening 

Also, we get to see more of Bethany, who, despite being only human, proves to be a major character in the novel. She provides comic relief, insight, kindness and is just fun with her southern-accent tirades.

The reader gets more than their fair share of the abominable Queen Julia, who tries to win Amelia to her side and demonstrates her twisted Hitler-like logic. Amelia and the reader see her for she really is, a mad woman on a mission to eradicate races in the name of purifying them for polluting Mage blood. While her intentions may have been well at first, she quickly shifted into a heartless abomination without a care for the innocent lives that may be lost.

At one point or rather moment, the reader sympathises with the queen, but that's only a moment and then her craziness returns.

Throughout the novel we see Amelia struggle with her Keeper power; the fight for who wins over the other is never-ending and a bit painful to read.

As with the first book in the series, Bound by Spells boasts many beautiful images, such as:

"I walked into a minefield wearing clown shoes."
"Our power was a faucet constantly turned on. As long as it ran, we lived. But if it turned off, we were done". Rereading this line and connecting it with the ending, a shiver runs down my spine.
"Her darkness sucked the light of my flame into an abyss, like a black hole eating the particles of light and the pieces of stardust from the universe."

Bound by Spells is gripping novel full of power, love, emotional surges and blue and purple orbs of power.

Stormy Smith has managed to write a book that is absolutely action-packed with bits of sarcasm, raging fury and tempers and above all an enjoyable ride. I couldn't put the book down and I'm currently dying to see what third instalment will unveil.

Stormy Smith has blown my mind once again!!!

I had the pleasure of ready Bound By Duty (Book #1) and absolutely loved it to pieces! Bound By Spells picks up just where Bound By Duty leaves you heart broken and wanting to scream!

The struggle between the heart and mind is relentless. What lengths would you be willing to go to in order to keep those you cared mose for in this world safe? How would you cope with the reality that you have been lied to your entire life and are just a pawn in a game larger than you could ever dream...that every decision you make could have hazardous effects...that your life has never really been yours? This is the truth Amelia has come to know in just a few short weeks. Betrothed since birth to the son of the deranged queen of the immortals, she has unimaginable power locked within her that the queen is wililng to go to any lengths to control, and that she has to choose to play the queens game in order to keep the ones she loves safe. I have to say the emergence of The Keeper had me up in arms...the power contained withing Amelia is not something I would envy, at least not while she is unable to fully control it. That struggle alone left me exhausted and I was only reading about it.

Aiden, discarded by Amelia and heart broken finds strange things happening to him that he doesn't understand. Orphaned as a baby he has floated from foster home to foster home never fitting in...until he found Amelia. He knows something is going on...something bigger than him...he just needs to find out what it is and get her back. What he doesn't know is how large his role is in all of this...and it is something he could never imagine. I loved the addition of Aiden's POV so much! I am a sucker for a back story and through his POV you learned so much more about him, his past, and his insecurities. Watching him struggle and overcome all he is delt and growing into so much more as the story continues was amazing.

I could go on and on about all the fabulous charachters in this book and can honestly say there was NOTHING that I did not love! Stormy has outdone her self with this installment. I absolutely could not put this down...the lies, the deception, and the never ending struggle to find the truth had me on the edge of my seat eagerly flipping (er... tapping) to get to the next page.

The ending of this book totally snuck up on me and had me shouting at my kindle, though smiling as I did...I CANNOT wait for the next installment!!! Seriously...I need it like right this minute!!!

As with the first story this was well written and VERY clean...appropriate for any older child/young adult, teen, or adult. There is no foul language or sexual situations that would be offensive.

If you are a lover of unique stories filled with magic, shifters, action, suspence, friendship, and delusional power hungry villians you MUST one-click this baby!!!

This is a interesting book. Like the first I didn’t really connect well with Amelia. She was not a bad character but just at times distant, other times petulant and very stubborn. She sometimes seemed to think she knew more and was superior to others because she was the keeper. She didn’t realize that people were risking everything to help her especially Micah. Her sometimes indignation and disdain to him over his actions were too much at times. He was going against his mom and that isn’t easy. This second book in the series was more action packed and helped to give more background than the first. Bound by duty set up the heroine and her love interest Aiden, got us to know Micah and her friend B and see them all try to live normal lives at college. This one college is a thing of the past. Aiden is strongly pulled to Amelia and finds out about his parents and who he is. He comes into his own and shows how much he truly loves Amelia. B is a big breath of fresh air. She is wonderful and caring and that is what Aiden needs-a friend. I love Aiden’s character. He’s sweet and genuine. Kind and forgiving. Very protective as well and curious. He wants to help his fellow Animages but also Amelia. As he learns about himself and the prophecy all he can think of is Amelia and being there to help her fulfill her destiny. Charlie the dog who is a sentinel I have to say was awesome and so was Dillon the boy/owl. Those to were two cute in a book that had heartache and deception and revelations to bowl you over as you learn about the Queen and her intentions, Amelia’s parents, and Aiden’s past. The reemergence of Amelia’s dad and his role was wonderful and sad in the end. He truly did everything for his family. Amelia’s brother was just as amazing. He was there for Amelia no matter what and did everything he could to help her. As was Micah, I was glad to see he was welcomed and thanked by Aiden. Micah sacrificed alot to help his people and his love for them clearly was evident. This is the tale of a people who were struggling and suffered under the queen and ready to fight back. OF women who were treated horribly and helped in the end. Of a son fighting against his mother for a better future and to hopefully get the one he cares for to forgive him. About two people fulfilling who they are and being strong for each other and believing in each other and their feelings for one another. About fighting a queen for freedom. A gripping tale that keeps you on your toes with revelations where each character has a purpose and endears you in one way or another to them and has you become involved in their story.

This was better than the last one and when I mean better it'll be difficult to put down the book once you've start reading.

It continues from the ending of Bound by Duty wherein Amelia left with Micah while Aidan is with Betty looking for Cole, in order to save Amelia. Nothing turns out as you least expected. The author will keep you guessing and the secrets that I've been wondering from part one was mind blowing. Although not all of it have been revealed yet.

I'm still not sure how I find Amelia, I still think her character trait in doing things first before thinking is going to be her downfall even if she has the right intentions. What I do like about her is that despite her situation she doesn't give up and she has to thank her supporters for that too because she probably wouldn't have last long under Queen's pressure.

I loved how Aidan doesn't give up on Amelia and that Bethany was able to talk some sense into him. I for one never saw that coming about Aidan but I had a feeling he was a special person. When I learned about past, I felt teary eyed. The only mystery is that someone saved him. I definitely want to know who that person is.

Bethany is same old. Kind of your true-annoying best friend. For a minute there, when there was a part about Cole calling her princess, I thought for sure there used to be something going on between them but not that obvious. Just like mutual attraction or something.

Among all, I pity Micah's role. He's stuck playing the fool for his mother but still his mother figured him out. That was quite shocking. But what I like about him is that he tries to protect and support Amelia the best way he could and that he's on the good side. I hope that he will finally live the life he deserves.

Micah's mother is one crazy b*tch. I for one can't understand the workings of her mind. Her plan for pure mages and how she treats her captives. I can't wait to see her demise. But a toast to the author for writing not only splendid H/h but the villains as well.

I don't want to spoil more but I felt for their father.

I'm wondering how many more will die thanks to that crazed Queen?

The romance wasn't that much. It was actually mild since they were separated throughout the whole book except the end. And the end is a major cliffhanger. I can't wait to see how this goes/ends.

And I freaking loved that owl shifter kid.

This review was originally posted on my blog, Hiver et Cafe

I received an e-ARC as part of the blog tour and in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion in any way nor was I compensated in any way in exchange for this review.

If y'all haven't read Bound by Duty yet, I sincerely urge you to do it! It was one of my favourite books of last year and it's so super under rated. I want more people to learn about this book and read it and love it too!

Guys. GUYS. Stormy Smith has done it again! Bound by Spells is just as fantastic as the first one, though I do admit I like the first one a bit more, since there's more Amelia/Aidan interaction. I ship it so hard. Aidan is such a great book boyfriend. (Can he be mine?)

The titles of these books are so perfect as themes for each of the respective books. Bound by Duty had a lot to do about Amelia struggling with upholding her duty, while Bound by Spells has things to do with spells and the like.

Bound by Spells is split into a dual point of view between Aidan and Amelia, as the two were split up at the end of Book 1. Through their individual points of view, we get to learn a lot more about Aidan's past and also Queen Julia's true plans. I really enjoyed reading from Aidan's perspective, mostly because I love him, but it was also interesting to see what his thoughts were on Amelia and also his situation.

Amelia is trying to make the best of her situation as she is held in captivity by the Queen. The Queen wants something from her, but Amelia is unsure of. And also, there's Prince Micah who she doesn't know if she can trust fully. Also, Queen Julia is freaking PSYCHOTIC. Seriously. Omygosh. My opinion of her being absolutely psychotic has only gotten stronger since the first book, when we learn about what her true plans are. She does have reasons for the things she's doing, but she's a pretty great example of what psychotic people with power do. Oh man.

Bethany is just as sassy and perfect and awesome as she was in the first book. I still absolutely want her to be my best friend. I love her hard. I hope she finds love and gets over Micah. She definitely deserves it.

The entire book felt like a gradual build up towards the inevitable war. I'm super excited to read the next book to see how things turn out and also see more Amelia/Aidan interaction.

I loved the dual POV utilized in this book, it was great getting to see two very different but intertwined storylines play out. Aidan really comes into his own during this book, and learning more of his history was great. Amelia has definitely grown a bit since Book 1, but in realistic ways. She’s still the same character at heart, still struggling between putting herself or what she feels she should do for the sake of others first. Out of all the new characters introduced, Dillon is my favorite. You’ll have to meet him to find out why.

I am once again impressed by Smith's world-building as everything is easy to visualize and makes me feel like I am there. There are small touches with each place that really elevate the setting beyond just a backdrop. Without telling you what it means, the clothes bins at one and the labyrinth at the other are perfect elements.

The pacing of the book was awesome. It flowed smoothly and felt balanced between Aidan’s and Amelia’s stories. The overall story arc of this book closes nicely, definitely less cliffhangery than the last book. You’ll still be wanting more though because the series arc is not complete, but mid-series that is to be expected. I felt very satisfied with how Bound By Spells ended.

Bound By Duty was one of my Top Reads of 2014, and I would not be surprised, even at this stage of the year, if Bound By Spells made my Top Reads of 2015. At the conclusion of Bound By Duty, I wrote that “Smith is an author to watch for sure.” I hold true to this statement after reading Book 2. If you haven’t started this series, you need to. I eagerly await Book 3 of the series and any more books that Smith writes in the future.
