A current patient of Dr Tess Ciccotelli commits a graphic public suicide and the evidence, and Tess's backstory makes her prime suspect to Detective Abe Reagan! Tess's demeanour, and his resulting attraction to her, sees him realise she is a pawn in a demented killer's goal of goading her patients into suicide! Can they stop the killer, the piling up of suicides, says not soon enough! A less graphically garish romantic suspense outing but still with graphic deaths and sexual abuse sees another 'romantic outing' build in the background to murders! Another interesting thriller-wise Three Star, 6 out of 12 read.

You Can’t Hide by Karen Rose
Contemporary thriller. #5. Chicago location. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Someone is targeting Dr Tess Ciccotelli and her patients. Investigating the apparent suicides, Detective Aidan Reagan finds evidence that points to Tess but she seems shocked and genuinely upset by the deaths. He will do his best, whoever the guilty person is.

An intense thriller following the investigation with occasional scenes from the POV of the killer.
Gripping and suspenseful.

For me this book was ok. It had a fairly good story line. I wasn't hooked on it, I didn't mind to put it down.

This is the second book I've read by Karen Rose and like the first one I found it quite bland.

Two stars.

I absolutely love this romantic suspense series by Karen Rose. You Can't Hide was another hit for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has wonderful characters. The hero is very appealing and protective, and the heroine is intelligent and resilient. Both are carrying some baggage, but it makes them all the more interesting. I can't wait to get started on the next book in the series.

The apparent suicide of one of Dr. Tess Ciccotelli's patients is soon revealed to be very a complicated setup. Someone used cruel games to drive the woman to her death, and all evidence points to Tess as the culprit. Detective Aidan Reagan is called in to work the case, and he is predisposed to strongly dislike Tess because of a case she was involved with in the past. At first, he is ready to believe her capable of tormenting her patients to their deaths, but within a couple of days of meeting her, he is a staunch believer in her innocence. As more of her patients fall victim to someone who obviously hates Tess, Aidan becomes very protective of her. Aidan and Tess are strongly attracted to one another, and as they spend time together for her protection, they become both physically and emotionally involved. As danger stalks Tess and all of those she comes into contact with, she and Aidan must race to identify the cruel murderer. While facing extreme danger, Tess and Aidan must also decide if they can both come to terms with their pasts and learn to fully trust one another.

This book was riveting and faced paced. The suspense played a strong role, but there was still a very satisfying romance. I did not find this novel to be quite as graphic as some of Rose's others, but there were several murders. I enjoyed the way that Aiden became so staunchly loyal to Tess after knowing her for a few days. He was terribly suspicious of her upon meeting her, but when he decided she was innocent, he had no further doubts. I liked his protectiveness and the strength that Tess showed when facing adversity. This was another great book in the series.

This is book two of the 'two in one' Karen Rose Novel. Wow! Hidden cameras, drugging's, planted evidence , sick mind games! What more could you want from a psychological thriller/suspense novel with a hint of romance? Karen Rose did another amazing job at keeping me captivated and interested in these amazing characters and the plot of this novel. I really enjoyed how she continued on with a few characters from her other book 'I'm Watching You' (which i reviewed yesterday) into this one. Especially Detective Aidan Reagan, who is the brother of the lead detective in the other book. I'm loving the Reagan family as a whole and enjoy seeing how their lives progress through the books.
Once again this is read in different perspectives, looking at the story through different eyes helped build the climax of this novel and each character's development/growth.

Set in Chicago ; Tess Ciccotelli is a psychiatrist, having been condemned and hated by the police department after a court case she testified for , stating the accused was insane and therefore being put into psychiatric care instead of prison, hasn't left alot of police offers believing she has a good heart or the ability to do her job, especially Aidan Reagan.
Now someone out there is pushing her patients to commit suicide by using their biggest secrets and guilt against them. Messing with their heads, imitating Tess and drugging them is only the beginning when physical evidence points to Tess herself having committed the crimes. With the body count slowly rising, and so many officers still angry with her about the conviction, soon the news is out there for all the world to judge her about her possible involvement with the crimes, even though she has never broken her patient-client confidentiality.
Now her psychiatrist license, her practice, her patients secrets and her safety are at risk when all leads either turn up dead or pointing back at Tess.
Who could hate her so much? and How did they find out all the information about her patients?
Tess and Reagan have to jump through many hoops to solve this case before the killer strikes again and takes Tess and those she loves down, once and for all.

I liked Tess Ciccotelli as a character, she is a strong honest female, who wont back down even if she ends up hated or under threat. Being a psychiatrist means she has a good understanding of peoples characters and there motives. Not only is she intelligent, but she holds her own and works hard to be where she is despite having some fallback's in the past. The way she handles being watched and listened to is amazing, i for one wouldn't be able to cope knowing someone is watching my every move and hunting down people i help/love. Though she does feel guilty, it makes her more determined to find out who is doing this to her and why.
Also the fact she has claustrophobia really interested me, but its not revealed until much later in the novel why that is.

Aidan Reagan is a sweet heart, although he was really hard and stern at the start of this novel, the reader then understands how hard his job must be especially when it comes to crimes against children and the helpless feeling he must feel of not being able to do enough/more to bring justice.
The fact he doesn't beat the fucking shit out of the criminals who abuse/kill children is remarkable enough, i wouldn't be able to control myself being a police officer not when it came to crimes like that, it literally makes my blood boil and makes me want to bring justice to the victim myself.
The way he helps Tess is amazing, he goes above and beyond to make sure she is safe and looked after, once he actually believes she's not the one committing the crime that is.
I love his dog Dolly too, any animals in novels melt my heart, with 2 cats, a dog and fish, its really easy to relate to their behaviours.

The Romance between Tess and Reagan starts off as a strong dislike of each other, but then slowly turns into attraction and the need to protect one another. Both having issues from their past makes a slow build up of mixed emotions , lust and the need for survival and safety.

I did not pick the killer in this one, unlike in 'Im Watching You'. I didn't even see it coming. And boy, the reasoning behind it was a smack in the gob. I couldn't believe someone could be so utterly insane and manipulative that it had gone unseen for so long by so many, and being someone extremely close to Tess it was fucking creepy how good they were at manipulating those around them to see someone completely different to who they were.
This reminded me of Paramore lyrics so bad.

Weak thriller , too many dead bodies in a very short time makes the story unrealistic.
Tess Ciccotelli is a psychiatrist and someone is systematically destroying her career and her life.
She meets detective Aidan Reagan assigned to the first case when one of her patients commits suicide but Reagan is not buying the suicide story (naturally). He thinks she is cold, she thinks he is arrogant and subsequently there is an instant attraction. And they fall in love.
That Tess does not herself need a psychiatrist after what the killer puts her through is a miracle in itself, maybe she counsels herself.

Here is an example of the type of writing you can expect.

"Her dark hair tumbled down her back in black waves and her sweat-socked feet tapped to the driving beat of Aerosmith, tha radio volume turned down low. She did a little shimmy, wiggling that incredible ass as she flipped pancakes on the griddle and Aidan thought he'd never seen a sight more perfect in all his life"

All of the above going on as her patients and some of her friends are in turn being hunted down and wiped out by a deranged psycho who wants what she has. The book could have been a lot shorter had Aidan concentrated on doing his job instead of spending hours in bed with Tess.

4 ½-5 stars – Romantic Suspense

This is another awesome, intense, gripping, and chilling suspense read by Karen Rose. Tess is a strong and compassionate heroine and Aidan is a protective cop hero who's deeply tortured by all the horrors that he's seen on the job, and I really loved them together. It would have been a solid 5 star read, but I was slightly disappointed with the fact that although there is a HEA ending, the H/H never declared/exchanged an official "I love you". Still, it's a great suspense read worthy of 4 ½...almost 5 stars!

Really great romantic-suspense with the emphasis on suspense, although the romance was really hot too. This was all about the suspense.

Psychologist Tess Ciccotelli and Chicago Police detective Aidan Reagan are thrown together due to the suicide of one of Tess's patients. Aidan has already formed his opinion of Tess and is extremely antagonistic toward her. His preconceived opinion is in error, and he comes around after the second suicide and realizes that Tess is being set up and is in danger.

This is the 5th instalment in the overall Romantic Suspense series by Karen Rose, but the 4th in the Chicago series. We've got some of the previous characters appearing as secondary in this one, such as Spinnelli, Abe and Mia. And some brand new ones.

The same ingredients that make KR books amazing are all here in this romantic thriller. There's sex, violence, blood, gore, deception and thrills. The body count keeps getting higher as we get through the story and there are so many twists and turns.

The story follows Tess Ciccotelli, a psychiatrist who also uses her talents in criminal trials. She's recently been involved in a controversial case whereby she 'got a killer off' by recommending that he be sent to a psychiatric unit instead of a prison. This makes the police despise her and so when she is implicated in the murder of one of her patients, they immediately declare her guilty and try to shut down the investigation.

Aidan Reagan is the brother of Abe, who we have met previously in his book with Kristen, and he is also a cop. He is assigned Tess's case and at first feels the same way as all the other cops.. But in true Karen Rose style, he sees Tess and is instantly smitten.

Tess's client's seem to be dying suspiciously - being made to look as though they are taking their own lives. When evidence points to Tess being guilty of the crime she must fight to clear her name and save herself from a merciless killer.

This story had everything. The murders are grisly and Rose doesn't hold back in her descriptions. I've said it before, but I don't believe that the gore is there for shock value and is necessary for the story. The romance is, as usual, hot and steamy and very quick to develop. I mean, it isn't very realistic but we can all dream that mean like Aidan exist and fall in love with you instantly....

I would absolutely recommend this to all Karen Rose fans and also those who are looking for something exciting and with plenty of depth. It's not a short book by any stretch of the imagination and I had to borrow it on my cousin's Kindle as my Hardback was just too cumbersome to read in the middle of the night! (Ta G x)

I'm looking forward to the next on my re read of the Karen Rose universe!

What an intense read! Rose never fails to get my heart racing as the suspense starts early & continues to build throughout. The crimes/murders are seriously creepy as the reader witnesses the mental breakdown of the victims as they're driven to commit suicide. All evidence points to the psychiatrist treating them...who hates Tess enough to set her up? A disgruntled patient? An ex-con her testimony help send to prison? Someone from her past? The reader is privy to the villain's thoughts & thus has insight to his/her burning desire (but not their identity) to completely discredit & ruin Tess, strip her of everything - her practice, reputation, patients, respect, family, friends - to see her locked away or even better, pushed to take her own life. The cops have their own reason to dislike & distrust Tess...will they let it influence the way they do their job?

Rose introduced & then cultivated characters & relationships in her masterful way. I loved seeing the relationship of Aidan & Tess evolve into something neither one of them had wanted & yet both were helpless to stop. As their emotions & desires reach ignition levels, so does the suspense...all of it culminating into an explosive climax with a shocking revelation. Romance Suspense at its best! A Page Burner! A Must Read!

Tess Ciccotelli, a psychiatrist, is being set up to look like she’s played a role in the deaths of her patients. Aidan Reagan, a Chicago police detective, was assigned to the case involving her first patient’s death and soon realizes Tess isn’t to blame. However, he’s having a tough time trying to protect her and her patients when Tess insists on protecting their privacy. And, things get complicated when the relationship between the two gets…well, complicated.

This story was riveting and no one was sacred. I went back and forth throughout the story, trying to figure out who could be the perpetrator. I won’t say much more (this is a mystery) but I ended up being right with my first choice. Tess and Aidan’s romance was sexy and touching but balanced within the story. The crimes were creative and often completely unexpected. It’s an edgy story and it pulls no punches. By the time the story ended, I wasn’t trusting too many of the characters and was making a list of who might be next! This is a page turner and the best in the series to date, which is saying something because they’ve all been great.

Rose continues to distinguish herself as a master storyteller and queen of this genre.

Someone is ruthlessly torturing Dr. Tess Ciccotelli's patients so that they will commit suicide. There are different clues that point directly to Tess. Detective Aidan Reagan dislike Tess because her professional testimony kept a child murderer and cop killer from standing trial. However, soon it becomes obvious that someone else is behind these assisted suicides and that madman now go after Tess. Aidan is forced to spend time with Tess and find out who's really behind all those gruesome crimes.

I wanted to know why this was happening to Tess. I was guessing nearly till the end who was behind it all. I have to say that the killer's reason for killing all those people was ....strange and lame. I also did not enjoy reading about victim's desperation and villain's double-dealing. Not bad but this was very dark and bleak story. Hate to think what was going on in author's plotting brain...

I’m pretty sure that nearly every time I read a Karen Rose book I’m kicking myself for waiting so long in between them. Such was the case with You Can’t Hide, which was a great read. In this one, we have psychiatrist Tess Ciccotelli whose patients begin committing suicide. It’s pretty obvious to police detective Aidan Reagan right away that they were deliberately driven over the edge, and it looks like Tess is the one who did it. Tess isn’t exactly loved by the police department, so at first, Aidan is all too eager to nail her to the wall. But as more evidence comes to light, he realizes that she couldn’t possibly have done it, and the more he gets to know her, he finds that he actually likes her. When they discover that her apartment is being surveilled, he offers her a safe place to stay, which makes things heat up between them even faster. In the meantime, the bodies keep piling up, and neither the cops nor Tess have any idea who hates her so much that they would go to such lengths to ruin her life. This book ended up being a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat, suspense story that kept me guessing right up until the reveal. Of course, the icing on the cake was the deep, emotional romance between our two protagonists that was slightly steamier than most of this author’s other books that I’ve read to date, making this one sheer perfection for me.

Tess is a smart, talented psychiatrist who cares very much about her patients. However, she has a troubled relationship with her family, not having spoken with any of them except her brother, Vito, in five years. After handing down a medical opinion that a man who killed three children and a cop was mentally unfit to stand trial, she also has few fans in the police department. She does, however, have a number of friends and allies, including Aidan’s partner and his sister-in-law. So when it looks like she might have driven her patients to commit suicide, they’re squarely in her corner, making it a bit easier for Aidan to swallow her innocence, even though he isn’t eager to let her off the hook. Tess is a deeply layered character who has many facets to her personality. Because she tends to hold her emotions in check, especially in professional settings, Aidan and many of the other cops think she has ice-water in her veins, but nothing could be further from the truth. She’s actually a kind, caring person who feels responsible for all the deaths that are occurring around her even though she isn’t the one who killed them. When she and Aidan begin to grow closer, she also proves to be a very passionate woman. Yet she wasn’t always that way. Her relationship with her ex was rather reserved and at times strained, ending with him cheating on her, shaking her confidence as well as her faith in men, but Aidan proves to be everything she’s looking for and more.

Aidan is a bit more of a hot-headed alpha than his brother, Abe. He begins the story with a chip on his shoulder when it comes to Tess. He was the person who found one of the girls who was murdered by the man she declared insane, and he simply can’t forgive her for what he feels amounted to “letting the guy off the hook.” Because of this, I wasn’t sure at first if I would like him, but I ended up loving him. He might get a bit heated at times, but he does prove to have self-control over most situations. He also shows himself to be more open-minded and reasonable than I thought he’d be. In contrast to Tess, Aidan has a close relationship with his family and is always playing the protective big brother to his much younger sister, Rachel. Even after he believes in her innocence, Aidan is a bit reluctant to get involved with Tess, when he first realizes that he’s very attracted to her. Because of her job and where she lives, he thinks she’s probably a snob who would be a high-maintenance woman. As it turns out, his perceptions are colored by a bad experience with his own ex, and he’s surprised to find out he’s wrong about Tess. But all this just made him a more interesting character, and one that I could still respect because he was willing to admit his own faults.

You Can’t Hide has a plethora of supporting characters, so many that it’s almost hard to keep track of them all. I say almost because I did manage to keep them all straight, and that alone is a testament, IMHO, to Karen Rose’s writing skill. Some of them we’ve seen in past stories, like Lieutenant Spinnelli who wrangles all the detectives to keep the investigation moving along, and Jack, the CSI guy, and Julia, the ME, who are a couple and had a side romance in a previous book. Then there’s Aidan’s brother, Abe, who helps with parts of the investigation, and his wife, Kristen, who is a prosecutor and a very good friend to Tess. They were the hero and heroine of I’m Watching You. Readers will have already met most of Aidan’s family in Abe’s book as well. Then there are a couple of characters who get future books. Abe’s partner, Mia, will become the heroine of the next book, Count to Ten, and Tess’s brother, Vito, who is also a cop in a different city, becomes the hero of the book after that, Die for Me. Then there are all the doomed characters, of which I believe there were thirteen, who end up in body bags. There’s also Joanna Carmichael, an overly ambitious young reporter, who gets some of her own POV scenes, and I can’t help wondering if perhaps she’ll turn up as a supporting character in a future book. Last but not least, Aidan’s dog, Dolly, and Tess’s cat, Bella, added a bit of extra flavor to both the story and to their respective owner’s characters.

Overall, I was completely blown away by You Can’t Hide. It was a masterfully plotted psychological thriller with murder and mayhem aplenty that kept me totally engaged throughout. As I tried to discern who the killer was, I bounced around from one character to another, but I never did figure it out until the reveal. I’m also absolutely in awe of Karen Rose’s ability to keep all her characters straight and to wrangle them into submission while giving each of them the perfect motivation for their actions, which also made each of them stand out to me. Despite the huge character palette, I’m pretty sure I could pass a quiz on who each of them were. The story itself was completely phenomenal and one of my favorites by this author that I’ve read so far. I loved Aidan and Tess’s relationship and felt like they were the perfect match in intelligence, temperament, and sexual chemistry, all three. I loved them together and felt like their romance was spot-on with the emotional connection. Everything about this book was sheer perfection and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next book and will have to try to keep the momentum going so that I pick it up sooner than I have been.

Read this one night and a day while on vacay this summer. As always, a fully engaging suspense story with my favorite part- a romantic subplot. The heroine is being framed by a nutter, and i really wasnt sure exactly who was behind it till the end. (She led me a merry chase by throwing in different characters that were highly suspect.) The hero is the cop assigned to the case, who is pretty much prejudiced against from the get go. But, it doesnt take him long to realize she's innocent- not as long as it took him to give into his attraction to her!

If you like romantic suspense with a light criminal minds touch, read a Karen Rose.

Interesting original premise, but for me this is the weakest in the series so far. I guessed the who right away, but the why wasn't revealed until the end, which was the only thing that kept me reading. The lead characters were blah together, which is a shame because I was looking forward to Aiden's book, but he was much more interesting in his brother's story, (book 3). Their pairing seemed forced and them getting together seemed more like an arrangement so they wouldn't be alone or something. I just wasn't feeling it. I still love the series though. 3 1/2 stars.

Oh, there’s definitely a pattern emerging.

This was by far the best book in this quasi-series. Masterfully done suspense, great buildup, and wonderfully twisted villain vied for attention alongside two wonderful lead characters. Neither side of the plot was dominant, they were nicely and masterfully intertwined, complementing each other, pushing the story forward at a nice, steady pace.

I loved both Tess and Aidan, there were so different, yet so similar, both with quite a lot of baggage, both in need of someone to talk to, someone to trust, someone to trust them, someone to love and someone to love them. And they found that perfect person in each other despite the initial animosity (mostly on Aidan’s part). Their romance and its progression was much more realistic than in the previous books, I somehow “felt” them more, empathized with them more, and though some were a little annoyed with the lack of I-love-yous at the end, I simply felt that was in completely in character with both of them, with who they were. They knew the other knew and that was enough. Loved it.

And don’t get me started on the suspense. A voyeuristic killer who hated getting his hands dirty so they drew Tess’s psych patients to kill themselves, getting a rush from seeing them dead and Tess discredited. Chilling. A killer who hated Tess without apparent reason, wanting to destroy her life at all costs. Thrilling. And the shock of learning said twisted, demented killer’s identity. I sure didn’t see that one coming and it made me think about what we really do know about people we meet. *shudder*

An A+ read and a definite keeper.

Setting: Chicago, USA. Someone is targeting psychiatrist Tess Ciccotelli's clients, pushing the most vulnerable ones to commit suicide - and then making it appear as if Tess has done it herself, with phone calls impersonating her voice and evidence of her fingerprints at the scenes. Tess isn't in favour with the police, having testified that a man who killed three young children and a police officer is unfit to stand trial, so is faced with hostility from the investigating detectives, particularly detective Aidan Reagan who discovered the third child's body. But he soon comes to realise that, rather than being ice-cold and professional as his first impressions led him to believe, Tess is in fact sensitive and vulnerable.....and someone is targeting her deliberately....
Another gripping read from this author as she takes you and her characters on a rollercoaster ride as the death toll mounts and nobody close to Tess is safe. I thought I had worked out who was the perpetrator quite early on - but was proved to be totally wrong! Great read - 8.5/10.

Martie-CHICAGO

Teroarea nevazuta isi face simtita prezenta in viata doctoritei Tess Ciccotelli.

I consistently like this authors books, but this one was a bit much. Having said that, if the blurb interests you it's probably worth your time. Her writing skills are good, so a 3.5 is like a 5 for other authors. Some authors I judge against themselves bc of this. Mary Balogh, Nora Roberts, Karen Rose and a few others I can't think of right now, lol.

Someone is setting up Psychiatrist Tess Ciccotelli to look guilty. A killer is driving her patients to suicide and making it look like she is behind the murders. Detective Aiden Reagan thinks it may be true when Tess refuses to break her oath and give a list of her patients to the cops. But after investigating the case, it becomes clear to Aiden that someone is trying to destroy Tess's career and wants the last victim to be Tess herself.

This is a well balanced romantic suspense book. It had an interesting romance between two well-drawn characters. I liked that Aiden and Tess didn't like each other when they first meet. The book had a great mystery/suspense story that was very hard to put down. I guessed who the killer was early in the book but could not guess the motive.

I'm looking forward to more books by this author. So far I've enjoyed every book in the series. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
