Thanks to an abusive father and a string of bad relationships, Riley McCage learned the hard way that people are not kind without a reason. Now, after landing a job at popular gay bar Pot O Gold, Riley is on the right track--until the night Boxer finds him drunk and drugged in the back room of an exclusive sex party.
Donald "Boxer" Boxwood wasn't looking for anything beyond some casual kink until he peeled Riley off the floor and gave him a safe place to stay. But there's something compelling about the guy crashing on his couch, and the two forge an instant friendship that eases into unmistakable attraction. Despite Riley's hesitancy, Boxer knows one thing to be true: he needs Riley in his life.
Riley risked everything to run away and build a new life for himself, and his secrets aren't something he'd ever wish upon his kind, gentle new friend. But when the past comes to call, he'll have no choice but to put his trust in Boxer…and believe people can change enough to deserve a second chance.
No stranger to the writing world, A.M. Arthur has been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long. She credits an early fascination with male friendships (bromance wasn't a thing yet) with her later discovery of and subsequent affair with m/m romance stories. When not writing, she can be found in her kitchen, pretending she's an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments. You can contact her at AM_Arthur(at)yahoo(dot)com
A.M. Arthur loves angst. She loves it so much that she usually doesn't know where to stop, and her characters end up getting murdered while escaping drug addicted mothers WHILE overcoming dyslexia, or something to that effect. There is good angst and there is bad angst, and this author always just steps over the line for me. This book was less angsty (but think about the scale here!), which I really appreciated.
I really enjoyed the slow way that the relationship between Boxer and Riley developed. Riley is hesitant to trust and very skittish, having lots of baggage in his past. Boxer is VERY patient, very giving, and extremely kind. He is a gentle giant, and he uses his calm nature to win Riley's trust and bring out his kinky side.
A warning for all readers, there is a near non-con scene here so if that is a trigger for you, be forewarned. Other than that, I really enjoyed seeing Riley come into his own and discover his toppy side. I think the sex could have been a bit hotter and a bit more confident, if I'm being honest, but it was still pretty decent.
Communication-wise, these guys were very good. However, my main issue is that I just didn't feel that special umph of a 4 or 5 star book. These guys were nice together, but not something I'll think on later.
I can't wait to read Elliot's story, though. That poor guy... now THERE I'll be expecting some major angstage!

Finding Their Way was an enjoyable venture back into the MM genre. Riley McCann is a bartender at a local gay bar, 23 years old, and has been on his own for five years. Five years since his dad kicked him out for being queer. He's had a few boyfriends but has some hard limits as far as sex is concerned. When he's taken to a party with his current boyfriend, Brett, he finds himself in need of someone strong and protective to rescue him from something he can't fathom happening. Let's just say, Brett is not the man he thought he was and Boxer was right there to swoop in to save him.
Boxer is a hot tattooed landscaper fresh from a hard breakup. Not interested in drama or relationships, his instinct to protect, to rescue anyone in distress, brings him to Riley, a bartender he's briefly met at the local bar. Clearly he's been drugged and anything that happens from this point forward is considered rape. He MUST save him...
I loved the dynamics of Boxer and Riley. Both men have pretty significant baggage and tastes that have made finding a suitable partner a struggle. Their relationship starts out fast friends and both Riley and Boxer find that's exactly what they need. No sex. No strings. Just genuine loyalty and friendship.
This aspect of friendship was such a great foundation for Finding Their Way. Both men were mature in their knowledge that sex can muddle the waters and both coming off bad breakups, they kept things platonic. Their love story grew at a great pace and I loved that aspect of it. When Riley needs a place to stay for a couple weeks, Boxer again saves the day. But clearly in time, Riley can't resist the hot tattooed body that is Boxer- but does he feel the same way?
Finding Their Way is book two in the Restoration Series but can be read as a standalone. There's a plethora of side characters I can see having their own books but they were also a great background that complimented this book.
A book filled with a great cast of characters, friendship, loyalty, and finding that special person that compliments your imperfections perfectly. I look forward to more from A.M. Arthur, especially within the Restoration Series.
Advanced copy received by Carina Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is book two in the Restoration series and the timeline continues from where the first one ends. Although Boxer was introduced there as a minor secondary character and almost everyone reappears in this book, it can work as a standalone. Where Getting it Right was heavy with the angst and drama, this one was better balanced with more focus on the main relationship without one tragedy after another. Of course this is A.M. Arthur so there is some heavy drama that plays out, especially with Elliott, who will have the next story in the series.
After coming out to his abusive, alcoholic father just after his eighteenth birthday, Theo Carey is homeless and for all intents and purposes dead. Riley McCage is born with fake papers and has managed to get by on his own for the past five years, now working as a bartender at the Pot O Gold. He doesn’t discuss his past and he has firm limits with regard to his relationships. When Brett, his boyfriend of seven months, unexpectedly takes him to a sex party, things go wrong fast. Donald “Boxer” Boxwood’s boyfriend of one year just left him. Looking for a release, he is at Zack’s party to find someone to dominate him. When he sees Riley with Brett at Zack’s party, he knows something is up. He knows Riles as the bartender at the Pot and something seems off. The next thing he knows he is saving Riley from an attempted rape in the back room of the apartment. Boxer takes a drugged and scared Riley to his house to sleep it off where Brett can’t find him.
The muscled, tattooed, Boxer is just the type Riley usually stays far away from, but Boxer’s caring and protective nature comes through and the two become fast friends. Both have serious family issues and neither are looking for a relationship. Boxer’s outward appearance is at odds with what he is looking for in a man, someone who is average, not a bear or leather daddy, but who is not afraid to take charge in the bedroom. Although Riley wants a real relationship, he is tired of being taken advantage of and his life experience has taught him that no guy or favor comes without strings attached. Judging from what Boxer wants in a man, friendship is all those two would ever have.
“The past can ambush you if you don’t know to watch for it.”
As Riley gets to know Boxer’s circle of friends, the threat that his past will come back to find him skyrockets and he has to decide whether he wants to confront it or keep running from it. Boxer’s friend Nathan is trying to track down Detective Carey’s estranged son, as Carey remains hospitalized from the gunshot wound he sustained in the first book. Boxer soon realizes that Riley is actually Theo, and although the abusive father Riley has described is at odds with the man his friends describe, he has a respect for Riley’s anger and need to hide his identity.
Boxer and Riley’s friends to lovers story was paced really well. The two don’t jump into bed right away but spend quality time getting to know and trust each other. There are some hiccups but for the most part they are actually honest and open with what they want. Although Boxer seems to want everything Riley can’t give, the progression of their friendship first allowed Riley to discover the possibility of taking charge of not just his own life, but translating it into exactly what Boxer wants from a partner. The BDSM aspect is not hardcore as Boxer’s kink is really being ordered around and told what to do. When the two men get together and Riley finds his inner toppy dom, it is all kinds of hot. The story of Riley and his father also plays out naturally and I loved the way Riley’s character really grows throughout the story.
If the excessive angst in the first story made you think twice about this one, or made you skip it altogether, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with this well rounded, enjoyable book.
I skipped the first book in this series, Getting It Right, based on the reviews of my friends. Almost all of them didn't like it, and the over-the-top drama that is apparently A.M. Arthur's preferred method didn't sound fun. While 'Finding Their Way' didn't blow me away, it was an enjoyable read with a manageable amount of drama.
'Finding Their Way' is very much so a relationship-focused book. From the moment that Boxer rescues Riley from an unfortunate situation at a kinky sex party, the story revolves around how the two interact with each other. I really liked that the author didn't throw these two in to bed as soon as possible. Boxer and Riley get to know each other first, becoming friends and confiding in each other before they move forward. They definitely feel attraction for one another, but it takes a backseat to being each other's emotional support. So when they do eventually move forward, it's clear that it's more than just sex.
The kink in this book is very tame. Boxer likes to be dominated occasionally, and Riley finds that this suits his perfectly. I enjoyed the dynamic of older, more experienced submissive taking orders from the younger MC. Given the mention in the blurb of a sex party and the BDSM tag, I was expecting something more. But even so, the slight D/s spiced up the sex scenes.
In comparison to the over-the-top drama in book 1 (which I've inferred based on a run-down of events given in this book, and based on reviews), 'Finding Their Way' is a walk in the park. The angst in this book is believable, and doesn't resort to bringing in serial killers or attempted murder. However, there was a , which I didn't enjoy because that's a trope that I absolutely hate. The storylines with Elliot and Riley's father provided a backdrop that emphasized Boxer and Riley's growing relationship, rather than distracting from it.
This was an enjoyable read, which could have been 4 stars with a bit more "oomph". While the two MCs had good chemistry, there wasn't anything that really made them stand out. I'd recommend 'Finding Their Way' for MM readers looking for a relationship-focused book, with a side of light kink and a bit of angst. Folks who have been turned off by A.M. Arthur's previous frenetic plots might want to give this one a try.
Riley McGage has a secret...his identity is bought and paid for to keep his angry, gay-bashing alcoholic police detective of a father from ever laying hands on him again. Riley is a bartender at the Pot 'O Gold bar in Wilmington, Delaware, and has met many a sexy man there. His current boyfriend, Brett does something unforgivable and coldhearted to Riley at a party. Another party attendee, Boxer, sees what’s going to happen and comes to Riley's rescue. Boxer is a hulking tattooed man who recognizes both Brett and Riley from the Pot 'O Gold, and steps in and takes Riley back to his place. Riley can’t believe that gentle giant Boxer is really as nice as he seems. They develop friendship, one based on mutual heartache and loneliness. Riley is grateful for Boxer’s help...then he needs someone to help rescue a stray, under nourished, dog, plus he also needs a place to stay while his housemate’s parents come for an extended visit. Boxer doesn't hesitate. It turns out that Boxer is an exceptional man. Having Riley in his home helps to bring the two men close enough to develop an attraction. I think I liked Riley’s growth and exploration just as much as Boxer did. This a love story that is both tentative and sweet. We meet some old friends when characters from the previous book come to visit and help Riley come to terms with his father. Rilley father is a police detective, and his partner is Detective Carey who Riley accidently meets. Riley is afraid that his cover is blown. He's successfully hidden from his homophobic father who caused his to leave home shortly after graduating from high school and who Riley has managed to avoid ever since. Everyone tells Riley his father has changed. They say he is now sober and desperately looking for his runaway gay son, but Riley doesn't dare to take that chance. There are really some great connections and fabulous communications between all the parties here. Riley may not have believed everything Boxer said at first, but he was never in doubt about how Boxer felt, especially about him, and how he felt about Boxer. Overall...the story has amazing characters, a great romance, and very little angst, that has you smiling.
And now a trip to the court of differing opinions...
Riley and Box have barely blipped on my radar before now. Riley is one of the bartenders at Pot O' Gold and Box is friends with James, Nathan & Elliott so he's been around the fringes of the stories. I honestly enjoyed the first part of this story where Riley and Box actually meet each other when Box comes across Riley at a sex party drugged and drunk. Box steps in and keeps Riley safe. In spite of Riley's reservations about Box based strictly on Box's physical appearance the two forge a fast friendship as Box repeatedly proves to Riley that appearances are deceiving. The fact that it was their friendship that developed quickly and not insta-love was nice and I enjoyed how things grew from there.
What had my rolling my eyes and repeatedly muttering things like 'are you kidding?' and 'Really?' was all the added drama. Box is by nature a worrier and caregiver. He wants to be there for his friends to take care of them and help them in their time of need and lord knows they need there are repeated instances of this to the point of predictability and maybe a bit of eye rolling was involved on my part. Truthfully by the end of the book I was finding it tedious and just too much.
I took a quick trip through the reviews for this book on GR and to be honest I'm feeling like I didn't get the same book to read as everyone else. So to all those who loved this book I apologize but this one is definitely going down as my least favorite A.M. Arthur book. The drama was just too much and I'm really hoping that the next book doesn't involve the 'throw in all this shit for added angst' that this has. Book #3 is 'Taking a Chance' and it's Elliott's story, one I've been waiting for so I'm going to cross my fingers and hope things get better from here.
2.5 stars rounded down here on GR because still no 1/2 stars and not enough love in me to round up on this one.
**** Love A. M. Arthur's delicious characters !! Beautiful story of love found, and acceptance with deep understanding. Boxer, a landscaper, and Riley/Theo, a bartender find each other at just the right time. Riley's boyfriend has set him up for sex he doesn't want. Brett drugged Riley and tied him up, gagged him and was about to rape him along with Zach, but Boxer stops the scene. Boxer saves Riley and takes him home to help him sober up and realize what happened. I nearly stopped reading because I didn't want to read about the rape, but Boxer stepped up just in time, and I continued. Riley is so grateful and relieved. He and Boxer become friends, and with twists and turns, Riley gets to add Boxer's friends in the mix. He's beginning to finally have friends who aren't using him. Each has issues from childhood to deal with and share with each other. Deep characters, hot sex, and an interesting plot make this a totally worthwhile read. Loved it !!! I'll be reading more of the Restoration series. Amazing characters, great romance, and very little angst, has you smiling. Terrific book, and I recommend it highly. ENJOY !!!
So we all know A.M Arthur has the bad habit of inserting way too much drama in her stories. Her characters suffer more than anyone ever should and a story with a great potential ends up being not so great. That is not the case with this book! I'm happy to say that our main characters are not maimed, shot, kidnapped, tortured...nope, none of that. Granted there's stuff in their past, but their present is relatively tame.
After reading this blurb I thought I wasn't going to like this very much. I'm not always a fan of BDSM and there's too much drama in the blurb. It's really not that bad. There are no whippings or anything like that, and Riley isn't a helpless sub...quite the opposite I might say, but I'm not saying anything else on that matter since I don't want to spoil it for you.
While the secondary characters continue to have many misfortunes and all kinds of stuff happens to them, Riley and Boxer are safe and sound, with plenty of time to get to know each other and fall in love, since they're not being abused or anything. I loved that! The sexy times are really steamy, but it doesn't happen overnight, and the sex is not gratuitous. It's quite a while until it starts happening, they don't literally fall into each other's beds, which helps establish an emotional connection between Riley and Boxer.
And you know what sold this book to me? The dog! Yes people, we have a lovely mutt in need of some love and care, and nothing warms my heart or makes me go AWWW more than a man who loves a dog. In this case, both men play daddy to that sweet dog, so I'm all happy and content.
If you plan on skipping this book because you expect tons of drama..... give it a try. It still has some drama of course, because this is A.M Arthur we're talking about, but it's not focused on the main characters.
For those who've taken those first scary steps toward discovering who you truly are inside.
Complex characters with complex situations and relationships. Theo's Mom died when he was young. Theo's alcoholic father couldn't accept his gay son. On his own Theo took bought a new idenity, Riley, and made his own way.
That was Wally Carey's method of teaching - beat it into you with fists or blood or nasty words. Sooner or later, his point was made.
Riley's boyfriend is not a nice person. He is only interested in his own wants and desires. He puts Riley in a bad situation, drugging him and more. Boxer saves Riley. Boxer goes against all stereotypes. Riley and Boxer become friends and then more.
There was so much to this story and to the characters. They were real to me. I felt all of their emotions.
Note that is not an update for or on the book, but commentary on something I've observed in reviews::
I see how quite a few reviews mention [in their reviews] how a non-consent scene almost happens here, and I am baffled by the need to use the words non-consent instead of RAPE!! It's almost as if people are trying to be politically correct or even 'gentle' about the delivery in terms of what happens, or in this case ALMOST happens!! Even trigger warnings phrase it that way and I don't get why [when it comes to dubious consent, I get it, because that's what it is! But non-consent is RAPE]!!! Let's call a spade a spade and let's NOT be politically correct, or nice, or gentle, or accommodating about it!! RAPE almost happens here [to Riley]!! We live in a society where we are VERY UNFORTUNATELY becoming more and more desensitized to words, what they mean, and what the repercussions are!! Let's stop using pretty words ... non-consent is RAPE!!!!!! That's what it is, it's vicious, and ugly, and terrifying, and we need to give this HORRIBLE CRIME the attention (and the words) it deserves!!
So when people say non-consent almost happens to Riley, they mean RAPE almost happens to Riley!! Let's be clear on that!! Words are powerful, let's use that power to create awareness and combat the problem!!
And to those who DO call it what it is, super kudos to you :-)!!
This is the second book in the Restoration series and can be read as a standalone, though I recommend reading in order.
Riley McGage has a secret--his identity is bought and paid for to keep his angry, gay-bashing alcoholic police detective of a father from ever laying hands on him again. Riley is a bartender at the Pot o Gold bar in Wilmington Delaware, and has met many a sexy man there. He's a no-go for penetrative sex, but his current boyfriend, Brett seems okay with it. Well, until he roofies Riley at a sex party and prepares to take what Riley won't offer. A party attendee, Boxer, sees what's going down and doesn't like it one bit. Used to taking in strays, Boxer, a hulking tattooed man who recognizes both Brett and Riley from the Pot O Gold (and other places) steps in at whisks Riley back to his place to sleep off the drugs.
Riley can't believe Brett almost raped him, but he REALLY can't believe that gentle giant Boxer is really as nice as he seems. They develop a tentative friendship, one based on mutual heartache and loneliness. Riley is grateful for Boxer's attention, especially when he's battered by Brett, when he needs someone to help rescue a stray, and when he needs a place to crash while his housemate's parents arrive for an extended visit.
Boxer is an exceptional man. He's had a hard life growing up, and his family is a shambles but he's always willing to help a new or old friend. In his own person, Boxer likes to be topped, and subtly dominated. Having Riley in his home brings the two men close enough to develop an attraction. And then some! I think I liked Riley's growth and exploration just as much as Boxer did.
This love story is tentative and lovely. People from the previous book end up spending time here, too. Tag, Nathan, Elliott and Detective Carey all make appearances--and it is Detective Carey who has Riley most on edge. Sure, all these guys say the man is stone cold sober and desperately looking for his runaway gay son, but what would the reality be if Riley were to break his cover?
There are really great connections here and fabulous communications between all parties. Riley may not have BELIEVED everything Boxer said straightaway, but he was never in doubt about how Boxer felt. The honesty was incredibly refreshing. The sexytimes were just yummy. I expect the next book will be Elliott's restoration, and I sure hope he find the right man for the job!
I received a review copy of this book via NetGalley.
Even though Finding Their Way is only the second book in A.M. Arthur’s Restoration series, a few of the characters were originally introduced in her Belonging series. Although it’s not necessary to read one to understand what’s going on in the other, it’s worth mentioning because of the connection. Regardless, you definitely want to read Getting it Right before picking up Finding Their Way. There had been a bit of a time lapse between the time I read the two, but once the connection clicked, my jaw dropped. Not in an ‘I can’t believe that happened’ shocking way. More like an ‘I love the way the author tied these books together’ way. :)
Needless to say, I’m becoming a quick fan of A.M. Author and her characters. Riley wasn’t exactly broken, but he was definitely bent. He had escaped from his past, but the shadows were still there. He protected himself physically and emotionally, but as careful as he was, he put his trust in the wrong person. That made trusting Boxer even harder.
And then there was Boxer. I loved this guy. He never thought twice when it came to helping a friend. He would drop everything to be by a friend’s side and it killed him when he couldn’t make things better. That kind of protectiveness is what drew him to Riley in the beginning, but the connection he felt toward him was more than either one of them bargained for.
As with all the books I’ve read so far in these series, the story goes beyond the couple the book is centered on. All the characters play an important role and I love the way this author pulls them all in and doesn’t forget about a previous couple just because they got their HEA. There’s a huge support system between these characters that’s just as strong as a family bond. It was also a great way to show Riley what that dynamic is supposed to be like and give him the strength to face his past demons and build a future that isn’t quite as hopeless as he once thought.
It should be no surprise that I’m looking forward to more from A.M. Arthur and her Restoration characters. In the mean time, I’m still planning on catching up with the books I missed in the Belonging series.
I received Finding Their Way in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Boxer to Riley, “The past can ambush you if you don’t know to watch for it.”
Two men fresh out of long term yet trying relationships stumbling through a new and instant friendship that unexpectedly leads to more makes for an amazing read. Finding Their Way is a perfect example of that. Boxer had settled into a relationship that kept him mostly happy but not completely fulfilled. That is what put him at the same party where he would end up rescuing another stray. Boxer recognizes Riley from the bar Pot of Gold. Boxer also recognizes that the man is in complete distress and not in full control of his faculties.
Hard limits are something that Riley doesn’t have a hard time vocalizing. His boyfriend seeing that as a challenge that he’d do anything to concur puts Riley in a very dangerous situation. Dangerous situations are something Riley is used to and something he has become proficient in avoiding. Riley is still human and wants to be wanted. He’s tired of people treating him as something disposable. This often leaves him vulnerable to those that would take advantage. Riley’s time alone taking care of himself has taught him that everything has a price and no one does anything without wanting something in return.
Kindness and generosity is something that comes naturally to Boxer. It is ingrained in his. It is how he was raised to be. Offering a helping hand to Riley is a no brainer. Every conversation they have let’s Boxer know that there is something dark and sad in Riley’s past that has forced him to keep his guard up. Riley soon discovers that Boxer is the opposite of his what he physically appears to be. Trust may not come easy but Riley knows he wants more of everything Boxer has to offer.
There are so many things in this book that I absolutely hate to read about and I still loved every single page of it. That has to tell you something awing of the way this story is presented. I do believe that A.M. Arthur is quickly moving to the top of my favorite author list. Every single thing about Finding Their Way worked for me. I can’t wait to get my hands on the third book in her Restoration series.
My Review: Riley stole my heart in this book. When you read about his background and what that's done to him, you can't help but feel for the guy. He just can't catch a break...until he meets Boxer. I love that Boxer is nothing like what he looks. He's a tattooed, bald, bear, but that facade hides a teddy bear with a submissive side that guys rarely will indulge for him just because of his appearance. These two work so well together and the thing is they are both coming off bad break-ups. What's that saying about finding love when you aren't looking for it? That definitely applies to this book.
There's a lot happening in this book and I will admit that I got lost among the friends and story lines at times. It's just hard to keep track of exactly who everyone is and I don't remember the first book in the series good enough to remember the specifics. But other than that small detail I did really like this book. I loved Riley and Boxer and how they came to be friends and came together. I love that Boxer saves Riley and then just steps up and takes care of him. That's so Boxer. But Riley is a caretaker, too. The storyline with the stray dog, Izzie, was just too sweet.
There's also a good story line with their friend, Elliott. I'm definitely looking forward to his story, because he's had such a heartbreaking story line. But that's one thing that I'm coming to find...A.M. Arthur does GREAT angst-filled characters with fabulously heart-breaking backstories. This book is a classic example of that. While the focus is on Riley, Boxer hasn't had the easiest time of it either. That's just one of the reasons it's so easy to fall in love with these great characters. Despite everything, they are really amazing guys and it's just fun watching them reach their happily ever after and happy place...even if it is a bit painful getting there.
I liked it. I recommend it. And I definitely look forward to the next installment in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
The second in the Restoration series, Finding Their Way was a fairly enjoyable M/M read, but didn't quite grab me in the way Getting it Right did. This could be because I liked the angst, drama and suspense of James and Nathan's story, and whilst Boxer and Riley's romance did contain some drama and emotion, the nature of their blossoming friendship made it a steadier paced story.
"The bald muscle bear with the badass tattoos is a Gentle Ben with a heart of gold. Do you rescue drowning puppies, too."
I did like Boxer and Riley together. Both are proof that what you see on the outside, doesn't necessarily reflect the person inside and we have a tattooed, shaven hair brute of a guy who is a huge softie and one hasn't had an easy life harbouring secrets. These men are good for one another, they bring out the best in each other and form a tight easy friendship which as time moves on develops into more; it's somewhat of a journey of self-discovery, for both men, but particularly for Riley.
"I want to be with you. I want to do this right."
There is a link to the first book and personally, I would recommend reading as I had a lightbulb moment fairly early on. And (with no spoilers) I must confess I was a little disappointed that more wasn't made of this part of the story as the potential was there. But on the whole it was romantic, the secondary characters once again brought value and content and the setup has taken place for Elliot's story. The turn of events involving him surprised me and I'll more than likely be reading Taking A Chance to see what A.M Arthur has planned for him.

Finding Their Way, carries us back into the bar Pot O’ Gold and to one of its bartenders, Riley. Picking up where the first ended, James and Nathan are together and recovering from their horrific assault and their friends are doing everything they can to take care of each other.
Some might remember the quiet yet hulking Donald Boxwood, aka Boxer, who is one of the gang and best friends with James and Elliott. Recently jilted by his boyfriend, Boxer attends a private party where BDSM is the order of the night and his need to be dominated is first on his list. Spying one of the bartenders from their local bar, Boxer is rather shocked to see the usually private man on display and possibly about to be raped. Insisting that the gag be removed from Riley’s mouth and confirming what Boxer suspected, he brings the younger man home so that he can recover from the drug he was given to make him compliant.
Thus begins a slow building romance that carries both men into territory they have never been before. Bit by bit, Boxer reveals his need to be dominated in the bedroom and Riley slowly explores what it might be like to be a Dom. However, Riley’s secrets are long and deep and when he finds out that the cop who helped James and Nathan is someone he knows, Riley must make the decision to run and hide or face his abusive past once and for all.
I love this group of friends A.M. Arthur has created for us. They are loyal and caring to a fault but also willing to confront each other and call each on their bullshit. In short, they are the type of person we all need in our lives, in spades. Continuing to weave their lives together, author A.M. Arthur pulls into the story a marginal character that once had intimate contact with James and knows Elliott. Riley is not your typical broken character by a long shot. Seemingly a weaker man, he has a backbone of steel but the lack of self-esteem to carry it to the fore. This plays so well against Boxer who is perhaps the most caring and loyal person ever to grace the written page. Always speaking the truth, Boxer pulls Riley out of his darker places and begins to instill in the man a sense of worth and of trust formerly lacking from Riley’s life.
This story is not a dramatic one or even overly complicated but the characters are so very well drawn, believable and charismatic that they become the focus of this sweet romance. With never more than light BDSM thrown in the mix, the sexual content of this novel was incredibly sensual and hot. Combine that with a life-changing event concerning Elliott and you have the perfect set up for the next novel in this series and I, for one, cannot wait to read it!
nice, but I did not feel the love. both are great guys and I feel for boxer and Riley. the story was a too easy things comes together. Oke it is romance and not real live. but the ending and loose end, wraps up a bitt too nicely. and despit all that, for me a bit boring. but nice al the same
The story of Riley & Boxer was intense, dramatic, interesting, sweet and charming! I liked the well developed MCs, the pacing and of course the co-characters. Ms Arthur is a very good storyteller!

Gotta admit, I'm a huge fan of A.M. Arthur. So far I have quite liked everything that I have read of hers. With Finding Their Way it's part of a series but could be read as a standalone. In her other series the Pot O Gold bar is the gay hotspot. In this book Riley happens to be one of the bartenders there as well as Boxer's a regular patron.
Riley has his secrets but he also has his limits. Boxer has so much heart but he also has needs. Riley now in a current relationship that respects his limits. So when his boyfriend takes him to a party he trusts him, even though he shouldn't. Thankfully for Riley, Boxer likes to take in strays and helps because if it wasn't for Boxer who knows what would have happened to Riley.
Boxer and Riley are the most unlikely duo but become fast friends. Riley is a bit lost after his break up and lucky for him Boxer loves to help. The closer they get the more they want to cross the line. But Riley's past is colliding with Boxer's present. While Boxer's present is tumbling around him, which is hard for him because he likes to help and be in control.
I loved Riley and Boxer together. They just worked. The may physically look like opposites but who they are balance each other out. This story was good and heartfelt. The characters were great and the story was balanced and complete. Is this my favorite from A.M. Arthur? No, but I still quite enjoyed it. Did I like the characters and their development? Definitely. Am I excited for book 3 Taking A Chance? OMG, am I ever. The synopsis looks great. Can't wait.

Reviewer's notes: First off I want to thank Carina press for a beautiful cover. Secondly, this book deals with domestic violence and some gay-bashing. As we know this can be a trigger to some readers, we are adding this warning to the review.
Some writers just consistently write superior books and A.M. Arthur is one of those authors and Finding Their Way is another fine example of her work. Both characters had some trauma in their past, and while one man landed in a stable and secure environment, the other has struggled and he's made some great strides in his life, but an incident threatens every bit of progress he's made if not for the new friendship of the man who goes above and beyond to ensure his safety. I love watching characters grow and change and both men did quite a bit of that in this book. So many great moments in this book as well as a few sad and even a few scary ones but that's what makes these books so good; they are a lot like life: it challenges us, makes us stronger and makes us appreciate it when we succeed.
For Riley, walking away from the only home he knew 5 years ago was the only option and while he's made some missteps he's survived and even made some friends along the way. He has a job he likes and a boyfriend he can't believe wants to be with him until one night everything changes in more ways than one. Scared and in a bad place Riley must rely on the kindness of a man he knows only from the bar where he works but given the alternative he has no choice, little does he know that one act of kindness will change his life forever in more ways than one.
At a party following a break-up Boxer is hoping to find someone to help him forget when he sees a familiar face acting very unlike himself and he steps in even knowing it might not be the best thing for him to do given his history. Boxer has a need to help others and some people see him a collector of strays, but there is something about Riley that calls to him in a way no one ever has before. Honestly the world needs more men like Boxer; he goes out of his way to help others even those he doesn't know well, he's a hard worker, he tells the truth and dedicated to his friends who are more like family. Despite a less than stellar childhood, Boxer was lucky enough to have a grandmother that picked up the slack and teach him unconditional love and quite a few other important lessons. While Boxer is a muscled, tattooed, bald headed badass there's another side to him one that he doesn't show many people and one that Riley seems to understand.
I give Boxer so much credit for seeing that Riley needed a friend he could trust above everything else and while they do eventually act on their attraction to one another they spend a lot of time getting to know one another, as well as they can given Riley's hesitance to share many parts of his life. Riley's hesitance to trust and believe everything comes from experience, but through Boxer's patience and his actions Riley begins to realize that Boxer is someone he can count on. They both end of having to deal with several situations during this book and while some of them throw them off balance the others bring them closer together in many ways. While these two were dealing with multiple issues, this book wasn't overly angsty and while they had some growing pains in their relationship they did a really good job of talking it through and sharing their thoughts and feelings with each other which was nice to see. Characters from previous books play a big part in this one giving us both a glimpse of how they are doing and things to come.
Finding Their Way had a little bit of everything; it was sweet yet sexy, good times and bad, and some surprising moments to add a little spice. A.M. Arthur continues to impress me with her realistic stories and vivid characters and as long as she keeps writing them, I plan to keep reading them!
At the age of eighteen, Theo Carey has an even greater traumatic experience with his father than the loss of his mother. He leaves home in fear, and changes his name to Riley McCage. He tries to become a different person, but his self-confidence is still a big issue for him, and he finds himself in a dangerous predicament with a detestable boyfriend.
Donald “Boxer” Boxwood has faced family issues of his own. His grandmother took care of him and his brother, and other children. He’s a muscled, tattooed guy who has a soft heart and is loyal and helpful to his friends. He’s also trying not to fall into a relationship.
Boxer is at a party where he notices Riley, and he picks up on something that doesn’t seem right. He rescues Riley from a scene that could have turned out to be devastating. Riley always seems to live in a world of chaos. Every time there’s a crisis, his self-confidence is chipped away. Because Riley has a secret, his fear prevents him from going to the police. Boxer always seems to be there for Riley and, little by little, Riley becomes more comfortable with him. But when Boxer leaves Riley to be with a friend, it’s sort of a double edge sword. Riley starts doubting himself again, though in a way, it also makes him stronger.
A.M. Arthur not only brings us a heartwarming, complex story, but she gives us many serious issues to think about. She uses superb skill in addressing the danger of drug and alcohol abuse, rape and animal abuse—for some, these issues may be hard to read about. I also liked the group of friends: James, Nathan, Elliott, Tori and Allen, who are always around to help each other deal with issues and just talk things out. Finding Their Way is an excellent addition to the Restoration Series.

We've met Riley and Boxer in past stories, and I'm glad to finally get to read their story. This was an enjoyable read. It was low on the angst side, but it had enough to grab you and keep you reading.
Boxer and Riley know each other by sight from the Pot O Gold, where Riley is a bartender. Boxer is a big muscled and tattooed dude, with a shaved head. But under the tough exterior Boxer has a heart of Gold. He rescues Riley from a party where his boyfriend has drugged him and plans to have penetrative sex with him. Something Riley refuses to do.
When Riley is displaced from his home for a month, Boxer offers him his spare room. Boxer also offers to keep the dog, Izzy that he and Riley rescued from a parking lot near The Pot. Riley and Boxer spend the next month getting to know each other, becoming friends, and eventually falling in love.
I loved that this was a slow burn book. They take a while before they fall into bed. They actually get to know each other, and the connection feels natural. The chemistry was good. The sex, well, I'm not a BDSM person, but it wasn't that bad.
I loved seeing the secondary characters from not only book one, but also from the previous series. I'm looking forward to Elliot's story. That boy has some deep issues that need to be explored!
Although this is only the fourth book I have read by A M Arthur I feel able to say that she creates rounded male characters who are emotionally vulnerable, with beautiful hearts. Finding Their Way is not an exception to this rule, yet I also think that the story’s tone is different. Riley is indeed keeping a part of his past secret and is dealing with how he was manipulated by his ex – but Riley is not tormented by these emotions. Finding Their Way is hopeful; we know that Boxer and Riley will have their HEA yet still we are compelled by their story. I think one of the most refreshing aspects of A M Arthur’s new release is her acknowledgement of the fact that not every gay man likes anal sex. However, Riley and Boxer still have a healthy sexual relationship and instead of assuming the roles of ‘top’ and ‘bottom’, they explore being a ‘sub’ and ‘dom’. A M Arthur develops Finding Their Way so as to include characters we have previously met, without interrupting the flow of the story. Riley works at Pot O’God with Donner and Boxer is best friends with James and Elliot. Riley and Boxer are now my favourite of A M Arthur’s men because of their cuteness, openness and passion, but I have a feeling that in his story Elliot might try and take their spot! A M Arthur is one of the very few authors who have made my ‘automatic buy’ list and I am very excited for her next two releases.
Riley has a job he enjoys and a boyfriend he trusts. Trust doesn't come easily for Riley after being kicked out as a teen by his abusive, alcoholic father. What Riley doesn't know is that his boyfriend is not a good guy and that trust is about to be broken. Boxer has recently gone through a difficult breakup and is struggling with the sense of loss. A night at a bdsm party is just what he thinks he needs. When he walks in on a bad scene he ends up being Riley's unlikely savior.
The story follows the two men as they become friends and then more. This story was a slow burn and it developed really well in the way it was paced. I liked both of the main characters and I thought they were good together. This was a couple I could see together in real life. There was not a lot of drama or angst, just two men working on opening up to each other and learning to trust. They were both realistic yet hot together.
This book is the second in a series but can read as a stand alone. There are appearances from all of the characters from book one though so if you enjoyed them you get to see them again. I had some issues with book one but had not read this author before that so I wanted to try one more book before deciding whether or not I liked this author. I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed this book.
Don’t you just love it when the sequel is just as good as the first in a series—maybe even a bit better? A.M. Arthur’s latest novel in her Restoration series, Finding Their Way, carries us back into the bar Pot O’ Gold and to one of its bartenders, Riley. Picking up where the first story ended, James and Nathan are together and recovering from their horrific assault and their friends are doing everything they can to take care of each other.
I loved this book and I loved the characters. Riley and Boxer were so great together. I loved watching them both learn to trust again after being screwed over by love ones. Boxer was big strong and muscular, but inside he really was a gentle sweetheart who loved hard. Riley was so much more than he appeared and Boxer helped him see that. I was a little surprised at the role Riley in their relationship. But then I wasn't. After all you learned about him, it kind of made sense. Plus it was hot!
The chemistry between these two was great. It was hot and believable. Did I say it was hot?! There was no Insta love here. They became acquaintances, then friends, then FWB and then lovers. But it was all well paced and made sense to me. They were not the typical couple and Boxer wasn't even Riley's usual type. But they worked together. They were strong for each other when needed and it worked. I know I keep saying that, but this book really worked for me. With all that being said, they weren't perfect and they definitely had to work for their relationship. There was some drama and some heartbreaking moments in this story. There was moment where I thought Boxer should have communicated better with Riley. But other than that, I had no issues with this story.
Definitely a favorite in the series so far and I can't wait to read more about this couple and more! Well done.
What kind of reader does it make me when I absolutely love a book that has angst pouring out of almost every page, but still yet, I love a book that is so sweet and mushy that there is a fear of getting cavities? I know, I know... I am soooo easy! *grin*
I will admit that I have been a huge A M Arthur fan from the very first book I read of her's and that opinion has yet to change! I live for drama... I love when emotions just reach out and grab you when you are reading a book! Which is always the case with this author! Is this everyone's cup of tea? I would think not... but it sure is mine! I loved the dynamics of Boxer and Riley's relationship... from acquaintances to friends to two men realizing that their friend is exactly what they didn't know they were looking for, but needed, to feel loved and cared for both in the everyday aspects of their lives and sexually. And, just let me say that there is a little surprise to be discovered in the bedroom between these two! ;D
It was good to visit with Nathan, James and the rest of the gang... and, of course, I am excited to jump right into Elliot's story... Taking a Chance, but, alas... I must wait! Dang it! :(
Finally, Boxer and Riley's story! A combination of adorable, sweet, and slightly kinky. Um, YES PLEASE!
Boxer looks like a stereotypical tough guy -- big, muscular, shaved head and tatts everywhere. But he's really a sweetheart who wants to take care of everyone in his life. In other words, he's perfect.
Riley has been running from his past, but now with the support of Boxer, he's starting to find himself.
I loved these two together: the burly, big-hearted Boxer taking care of Riley, while Riley finds his dominate side and giving Boxer something he's always wanted but hasn't found before. Trust me on this -- it's so sexy, and also cute, seeing the bigger man dominated by the smaller (though Riley's no twink!).
I'm very much looking forward to Elliott's story next. Finding Their Way has it all. If you're already a fan of Arthur's work, you'll love FTW. And if you're not a fan yet, what the hell are you waiting for?
4 1/2 STARS!

These AM Arthur books are all complicated and messy. They don't muck around with all the happy-happy, and if you have read the first in this series, you know what you're getting into.
So this was a nice surprise. It wasn't as dark, or as tough to read. Yes, sure, bad things still happen, but they seem to happen to people around Riley and Boxer , so we see the boys dealing with other people's pain, and drawing on each other to find strength. It's a different sort of dynamic.
Short story, I quite enjoyed it, and didn't have to pull myself through it. The sub-plot involving the dog was heart-warming stuff. Brett was suitably dickish, and worthy of our contempt, and we keep seeing other characters from previous novels, which I totally love.
I am looking forward to seeing the resolution of Elliot's story, as he has been through a lot in all the different books, and really deserves his HEA.
I was provided a copy through Netgalley, thanks to the publisher, and it's out today, I believe. Recommended if you enjoy drama and damaged boys who are better with someone beside them.
