The first part of TRACE, a three-part series from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Deborah Bladon.
Being a nurse gives Vanessa Meyer a true purpose in life. It grounds her in a way that nothing else can. Since she's watched her mother slide into the clutches of a painful condition, she's worked hard to better the lives of her patients, giving as much as she can to those who seek help.
Garrett Ryan is an attorney in Manhattan. He centers his life on himself. When he's brought to the hospital after a horrible crash, Vanessa tends to his wounds.
Their first meeting is explosive. She sees the worst in him. He only sees the best in her.
When she needs his legal expertise, he jumps at the chance to help her find the answers she seeks. He encourages her to set out on a journey of self-discovery but neither can predict where that complex trail will take her. When she finally traces the path of her past to the present, it leads her to a reality that changes everything she's ever known.
Note: This ends in a cliffhanger. Parts Two and Three will be released within the next few weeks.
Deborah Bladon has never read a romance hero she didn't like. Her love for romance novels began when she was old enough to board the bus, library card in hand to check out the newest Harlequin paperbacks. She's a Canadian by heart, and by passport, but you can often spot her in New York City sipping a latte and looking for inspiration for her next story. Manhattan is definitely her second home.
She cherishes her family and believes that each day is a gift for writing, for reading, and for loving.
“I know that you think you can f*ck me once and it will be enough.”
“It will be.”
“…Once will NEVER be enough. I know it already.”
After crashing his bike in Central Park while “chasing the most perfect pair of tits he’s seen in a long time”(his words) and being brought to the ER by the paramedics, the famous attorney Garrett Ryan meets with Nurse Vanessa Meyer rather ungraciously, complimenting her on her “good looking ass” and then falling face first onto the floor when he faints.
While Vanessa is disgusted by her disoriented but very sexy patient’s arrogance and lack of manners, making this fact very evident by calling him “an asshole” to his face…Garrett is very much taken by the beauty and wit of the ER nurse that he can’t get out of his mind and wants to “get acquainted” with her, in every sense...if you know what I mean ;)
When Vanessa needs Garrett’s professional help in a matter that involves her trying to find her biological parents now that the woman that raised her with love and care is in the clasps of the Alzheimer’s Disease, Garrett becomes the hero in Vanessa's pursuit of her real family and day by day, his sweetness and care wins Vanessa’s heart over. Just like that, Vanessa suddenly finds herself entangled with a man that she knows NOTHING about, except that he is single, is a lawyer and is a god in bed. Garrett is a man with secrets. Secrets that might destroy Vanessa for good…
That ending was brutal!! I need Volume#2 RIGHT NOW!!
And Garrett...YOU PIG!
Now go away. I can't stand to have the thought of you in my head right now.
We'll meet again and you better have your explanation ready by then.
3 Darling That Was Short Stars! Garrett has an bike accident and lands in the ER. Vanessa is his nurse. These two start off with a bang and Vanessa could care less if she ever sees the arrogant womanizer Garrett again. Her wish doesn't come true. Garrett has other plans for the ER nurse he can't seem to get off his mind. Vanessa a nurse searching for her real parents. Garrett a lawyer offering his services in and out of bed. Haha! I pretty much figured out where this was going after a few chapters. I however wasn't expecting that ending. O.o! That was a big ole cliffy:( Will I be reading the next one? Not sure yet. I hope I'm not the only one who is sick to death of waiting for the next installment of a series.
I'm getting so fucking tired of these serials, is it to hard to write the book and publish all at once? Don't get me wrong Deborah Bladon can write and she has mastered the concept of cliff-hanger. Problem is she has mastered the cliff-hanger all too well. Which is why she must write serials in the first place. I'm going to try, try hard to back away from Bladon's serials until they are completed. It drives me bat shit crazy waiting for the next one in the series. Let's just see if I can stick to it now.....
That said, Ryan is a probate lawyer, let's just hope that's still his role with Vanessa's newly discovered sister. After all Ben didn't say he was one of the good guys. Surely being married himself he wouldn't turn out to be a duck and help his friend cheat on his wife.
Wow...This was different. Moving, funny, short and steamy!!! Awful cliffy though!!! I need book 2 now!!!! Deborah Bladon works differently with this one. The story focuses on Vanessa. Vanessa is a nurse and has an unfortunate meeting with Garrett Ryan while he's in the hospital after an accident. He comes off as an arrogant, selfish man when they first meet and Vanessa is turned off by his attitude. Garrett is a lawyer and when Vanessa is need of help, he offers her his professional advice. Vanessa, on her way to discover her biological mother, gets further involved with Garrett. Lust and passion flare until Garrett's true identity and lies come to the surface. Terribly cliffhanger, but great first novella.
I certainly did not see that coming.. He is married, really... You definitely have me on edge. I was feeling so sorry for Vanessa. Now I feel worse. When is the next one.....I can't wait long..
Omgee..... I think this will be my best book yet from Deborah Bladon. Smh im so speechless ryte now. Best cliffhanger yet!!! Plz i need the next book ASAP.
He ends up in the emergency room after crashing his bike...
“I was riding my bike in Central Park, I like to do that to keep in shape." "I was riding along and turned a corner and that's when I saw them." He shakes slightly. "I was riding and I saw them, and after that everything went black." "The paramedics that brought you in said you hit a tree." I wince at the imagined image of that. "They said you were lucky you were wearing a helmet." "I could have been luckier." "If I would have caught what I was chasing when I crashed, I would have been the luckiest guy in Manhattan." "What were you chasing when you crashed?" I lean in waiting to hear the part of”
“I was chasing the most perfect pair of tits I've seen in a long time." "Are you serious?" I lean closer to have a look at his eyes. "I'm dead serious." His hands bolt to the air in front of him. "They were round and plump. She was jogging on the path and I saw them bounce and then they bounced again”.
At the end of book 1, Vanessa has realised from invading her mother’s storage locker in Maine, a newspaper clipping accusations of kidnapping.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I should have known I would be frustrated until I got part two in my hands, but damn...I didn't expect to be this frustrated. I don't want to give spoilers but I will say that I can't wait to find out how connected everyone really is in part two. Cause someone's got some splainin to do.
Can't wait for Part Two. This is the first time since I started reading Deborah's work that I've had to wait for the next part, cause I came across her work after the Gone series was fully released.
There were a few typos, but noting major or too distracting. A misplaced pronoun that could easily be 'head edited'.
OMG.....How is Garrett doing come back from that? IDK
I being waiting till Mrs. Bladon to released all 3 books before I read them. and its been killing me. I just finished this and I just yelled"No he didnt. You a$$hole" out loud.
I did enjoy this book and am anxious to read part 2. The first meeting, the chance meeting after that, or was it a chance meeting....... A mystery wasn’t what I thought I’d be reading, but I am intrigued!
Emergency nurse Vanessa Meyer has seen her share of strange occurrences around the E.R. Not every patient is polite or behaves appropriately. Seems like making a pass at a night nurse is every man's fantasy. Just not hers. At least not until the gorgeous and arrogant lawyer Garret Ryan is hauled in after running with his bike into a tree. Their meeting would have been hilarious if Ryan hadn't made her lose her temper, putting her job at risk. She sees an arrogant bastard in him. He sees an angel in her. When her search for answers about her biological mother leads her down a rabbit hole, Garrett offers his support and legal advice. She falls for him with each gentle touch, chivalrous deed and passionate encounter. She falls hard, only to have the rug pulled from under her feet, as only Deborah Bladon can write up. The first installment of Vanessa and Garrett's story is intense, erotic, sweet and will leave you open mouthed at the end.
Garrett is a hot (of course) hunk of a man who runs his bicycle into a tree while chasing a woman he finds exceptionally gifted. He ends up in the hospital with Vanessa, a nurse with an Alzheimer's adoptive mother. While trying to connect to her past, she learns some startling facts about the day her mother "adopted" her. While Vanessa's first impression of Garrett was not too pleasant, his hotness earned him second consideration and a few romantic encounters. After what Vanessa learns, she heads to her birth mother's home to connect with her and WHAM, SPLAT, SWOOSH! One heart attack later and you are reminded of why you love Deborah Bladon's endings. I know there is something that will help me forgive Garrett. Whatcha got cooked up in that next book???
Lawyers and nurses, what can I say? There are attractions that cannot be helped. Garrett Ryan a lawyer that knows what he has to offer and Vanessa a woman that needs to find the truth about herself.
Deborah Bladon keeps you interested from the beginning of this book. She finds a way to put mystery and sex into this book without batting an eye. Cliffhanger as always and I love it. How will Garrett get out of the situation he is left in is the question of the day. I love the twist and turns in Deborah Bladon series and I am looking forward to the next part.
How does it feel when you realize who you are and where you really come from? What does it feel like when you are struck by a surprise you never thought was possible?
Overall Rating :: 3 stars Series :: Novella one of Trace series. Hero/Heroine :: Garrett/Vanessa POV :: All Vanessa. Cliffhanger :: Yes. HEA ::

Wow, what an ending! Unfortunately, it was spoiled for me after glancing briefly at a review (man, that sucks). Bummer, but still exciting. Is Trace the best written piece of literature I've ever read? No. But it's held my interest. The dialogue and pace seems a bit stilted, and the characters seem a bit wooden, but it didn't take me out of the story entirely. I'm not selling this very well, am I? It's good. Just read it.
Deborah never ceases to amaze me. I love that in every series we get a glimpse at previous characters from other series. And it's great to find out how everyone knows each other.
As for the story...dang! When I read Deborah's books, I'm always ready to be a bit flushed due to the hot alpha males, and for my jaw to drop or my heart to stop for a second. And I always know there's a cliffhanger. That's just how it goes, as frustrating and stomach clenching as it may be. I'm sure there's an interesting reason for how everyone in this book is interwoven...I'm hoping it'll be a very good reason! And can't wait for part 2!
I can’t tell you how refreshing it was to start a Deborah Bladon title chuckling at the outrageous flirtation between Garrett and his ER nurse Vanessa. I loved his confidence and charisma while I cheered when Vanessa soundly rebuffed his saucy advances. As the story progressed I was surprised that Vanessa could be intimate with Garrett but wasn’t capable of sharing private confidences with him. She keeps her work, her personal life, and her sexual relationship with him compartmentalized while she searches for clues to her past. The surprising cliffhanger is intriguing so I’m curious about what happens next in her story and thankfully I waited to start the series until it was complete.
This story didn't grip me until the very end. To be honest, I didn't really care about the characters, nor did I get a sense of a strong connection between Vanessa and Garrett, except for sexual tension. It seemed that certain details were added in last minute or as an afterthought. The cliffhanger ending was unexpected, I will say, and in my mind I did utter the phrase, "Oh no, he didn't!" Other than that, this story didn't really do it for me. 2.5 stars
