Tabitha has a choice. She can return home to the sheltered, predictable life that will undeniably lead to an eternity of knitting afghans for her swarm of cats, or she can accept her estranged grandmother's order/ invitation to join the elite social circle Tabitha's mother turned her back on years ago. Neither holds a promising outlook. But when she can't seem to avoid meeting a particularly tempting member of a world to which she doesn't belong, she has to decide if the walls she's built around her heart are any defense against his determination to win her.
If at first.... If at first you read this book, and can't decide exactly where it's going, keep reading. You'll be transported into the world of small town Madison, the kind of town where you know everyone and everyone knows your business. We meet Tabitha, a smart but guarded young woman and her faithful side-kick Danni and are immediately driven into her world of self sacrifice, her painful breakup with her long term boyfriend and the difficulties of her family life. Once she returns home, you feel like you're there with her, in small town America. The descriptive narrative is breathtaking at times, and the witty back and forth between Tabitha and all of the other characters in her life is nothing short of hilarious. You get a sense that Tabitha is strong, smart and certainly snarky. When she's forced to go to Townsend for the summer, I immediately felt as if I was transported back into my childhood, and of my own summers in the Hamptons. Townsend is filled with the toney, upper-crust families that one would find at the favored vacations spot of the rich and famous. Everyone knows their names, and everyone wants to be seen with them. Tabitha goes through a series of misadventures, sometimes of her own doing, sometimes due to those surrounding her, but she manages to handle them with wit, and grace and manages to find a very hot man in the progress of her journey. The pacing is perfect for the most part, only once or twice did I find a chapter a little slow, and the character arcs are just where they should be, creating enough tension and surprises organically. Once or twice you'll be surprised just by the direction a conversation takes! The ending left me speechless.
C.C. Cerano is a new writer, with a huge future ahead. This book is wonderful!
This book begins with a wonderful young woman who has devoted her life to family and is now leaving school to begin doing the same again. Now add in a hansome man who is entirely from the other side of life. He is wealthy, handsome, sought after by every woman who drops in his path and forever houded by the paparazzi and gossip mongers. Our young herioine is called for by her estranged grandmother and thrown directly in the path of said man. She eels so out of place and trying to find herself she does not believe that he could possibly be interested. The path these two take will keep you mesmerized. Once you begin to read you will not want to put this story down. I you are not on a get-a-way, but want a relaxing feel good read, pick up this book. You will not be disappointed. I recieved a copy of this book in return for an honest review. I would always buy any book whe will ever write. For a First Time Author, C.C. Cerano has written a great one! Fantastic job C.C.! Your ability to put people into the feelings of your characters and describe surroundings so the reader feels they are there is astounding.
One dimensional characters — the snooty rich people, the bad guy, etc. Plot trails that seem to go nowhere — the ex-boyfriend, the necklace, etc. Rushed and unbelievable ending.
