The will and might of Rome are broken and the legacy of the great empire is chaos and uncertainty. The legions broke the ancient order of Britain, their foederati warriors diluted the blood and laws of the tribes. Now countless warriors descend on the islands in search of land, wealth and a home for their people. Angels, Saxons, Irish, Jutes and Frisians are joined by the flotsam of a fallen empire. These savage warriors will follow their lords wherever fate leads them, against whoever fate decrees. Wulfhere has won his kingdom. His name is feared throughout the halls of Britain. Where does fate lead now? What plan does Tiw have for the Wolf Lord? In the confused torment of Britain it is impossible to see where the next enemy will arise. What story will the sisters weave for the Lord of the Wolf, his loved ones and his people?
This series is a great read if you like your history with a good story. The author does a wonderful job recreating post Roman Britain times of war, raiding and life in all its gory glory. The brutal honesty of how women and children were treated is frightening in its accuracy. The author does not shy away from the horrors of war, rape, slavery and brutality of that period in history. I started with the first book in the series and haven't been able to stop. On to book 5 hoping book 6 is being written.
Viscous fights in the sheild wall against the ancient tribes who live among the angles in the island of the mighty. A fair strong king wulfhere took his people across the whale roads to start a new kingdom and has to deal with all the ancient enmities of the tribes of Britain. A deadly enemy to have. The weahl do not know sheild walls and throw themselves bodily onto the slaughter field.
This was another enjoyable book by Andrew Cook in his Angelcynn series. A reader wonders how accurate to history this series is. Certainly the timing is correct and the story reflects the growth of post Roman Britain. Interesting characters and lots of action.
