Ten things I have loved, and continue to love, about Squirrel Girl:
1.) Body positivity
2.) A relentless refusal to be anyone other than herself
3.) She's got a silly, dad-joke type sense of humor
4.) CAT THOR (and I don't even really like cats. At all.)
5.) The shit she gives to Iron Man (and the way she interacts with the rest of the Marvel universe on the whole)
6.) Those footnotes!
7.) The letter to the editors are always full of SO MUCH positivity
8.) Diverse, inclusive, and no 'tokens' here!

So much fun. I love Squirrel Girl, simply because she's never meant to be taken seriously and is still so endearingly earnest anyways. It's wonderfully silly, even while the events in the book are being taken seriously by the characters in the book. This is a book that I think my niece would really get a kick out of, and I can enjoy it, too, so win-win. Actually, I think that this would probably be a favorite comic of the Lumberjanes cast, which is a really wonderful thing. Squirrel Girl isn't quite like any other book that I can think of that's currently being published by the Big Two, and that's a wonderful thing, too.

All right, I liked it, but it took me a while to get into it. I am not a big fan of the art, so didn't feel drawn in. It's the garish color scheme. Maybe that's a small thing. But it made me keep putting it down, picking it up. But to be fair: the energy and positive girl power spirit continues, which is all good, and I like the whole silly squirrel girl and sidekick-who-is-actually-a-squirrel thing, and all the readers who send pictures of themselves with squirrels, my fave one from a squirrel biologist (who as a group now have an obvious best comic, yay!), the sass she gives other superheroes (many of whom have cameos throughout), all the bad dad-joke squirrel/nuts puns. Chipmunk Hunk. Koi Boi. An actual character named Girl Squirrel. A character named Hippo is who is also actually a hippo.
The central story here is a mock epic battle with Ratatoskr, the Norse God of Squirrels, which Thor gets called on to deal with.
A fun YA series. A lot of manic teen invention. I prefer Ms. Marvel and Nimona in this comics area, but hey, it's good.

OK, I think this book is starting to grow on me (like mould) as I actually quite enjoyed this second volume. Maybe I'm mellowing in my old age... or senility is kicking in.
Charming, harmless, frothy fun... Nothing great but to keep saying mean things about it would feel too much like kicking a puppy.
P.S. It's only with the introduction of Chipmunk Hunk and Koi Boi that I've realised that, in the US, 'Squirrel Girl' rhymes. Here in the UK, we pronounce the E in squirrel, making it a two syllable word. Squi-Rel. Say it with me... That E is there for a reason...

Better than the first volume, but the best stories in the book are the three little reprint stories in the back. I hate the little footnotes that you can barely read because of the color and tiny font size. I also hate how the first page of each issue is just a made up twitter feed. It's a comic book. I want artwork on every page.

Out of all the Marvels, I’ve never seen anything quite THIS wholesome. No. Not even Spiderman. They even limit the amount of Dad Jokes to a bare minimum here. It’s so… optimistic and can-do and, let’s face it… Squirrel Girl really did just defeat all the Avengers in a single scene.

Although not as cute as the first volume, it was super great to meet the rest of Doreen's superhero team and watch her get to beat up ******** and steal his ******* and have them not even ******! And then Nancy figured out the answer while hanging out with ****** and ****** on ******! TEAMWORK! \o/
Probably what made this feel so weird is that some guest artists drew Doreen and I recoiled from the page because no. It made me want to KICK BUTTS. Can I just petition Marvel to only allow Erica Henderson to draw Doreen, ever? Or another woman I guess. SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS WHAT IT'S LIKE to have your body-confident, super tough fictional pal rammed into a DudeBro Vision mold. ZERO NUTS FOR THAT ART.
But four out of five nuts for the rest of it. And now I need to go look up Doreen/Nancy fanfic, so excuse me.*

This book is funny as hell. I'm so happy to have a book that's actually funny, and to see a character who is confident without having to throw out lines about her confidence all the time or fight a bunch of straw men created to make a point about how she's good at this and that. She's doing what I want in comics, kicking ass and cracking wise. It's exactly what I love about Spider-Man. Okay, part of what I love. There isn't quite the emotional depth for me, or not yet at least, but this definitely isn't a book that seems to want to go that way. Not so far. I'm 100% convinced that should Ryan North decide to go that way, he could pull it off, but right now I'm happy having a good time. More than happy. I'd be happy to laugh my ass off at this book for as long as they want to keep putting it out.
For me, this book is one of the better books in terms of fulfilling the need for character diversity in comics. Because it showcases that diversity, and it also still manages to be a goddamn comic book.
Let me put it this way. Bitch Planet is like your slick, cool friend who you kind of like hanging out with, but also kind of makes you feel less-than or stupid or something. Bitch Planet is always talking about how you should really take a trip to South America because it will broaden your horizons. Bitch Planet never asks what you've been reading, but tells you about all these things you should be reading.
Squirrel Girl is your best buddy you haven't met yet. Reading Squirrel Girl feels like an inclusive, fun, awesome time. Squirrel Girl wants to be your friend, and you should totally let her. She beat the shit out of Spider-Man and stole his web shooters. Who doesn't want a friend who uses web shooters with reckless abandon? Who doesn't want a friend who has Twitter battles with Tony Stark?
Also, Straw Man would be a great villain. Until the Scarecrow got his pantaloons in a bunch and kicked his ass with fear dust or whatever.

I loved the commentary on the bottom of each page. I also loved her group of friends! Such great variety and glad to see some fun characters who aren't all white dudes. I need more superheroes like this! Or I just need to keep reading Squirrel Girl. ^_^

okay so i had all these dumb new year's resolutions like 'exercise 30 minutes every day' and 'wash the dishes regularly' but you know what? i have seen the light. forget my whole list, my new new year's resolution is to be more like squirrel girl
it encompasses everything one should strive for in life! as i accept the power of SQUIRREL into my life i will be blessed with the following:
1) COMP SCI POWERS
2) THE ABILITY TO SPEAK TO SQUIRRELS
3) THE ABILITY TO USE ENVY TO ADDRESS FLAWS IN MY NATURE AND SUBSEQUENTLY GROW AS A HUMAN BEING
4) FUN ANIMAL THEMED FRIENDS, SOME OF WHOM ARE HUMAN

OK, there's only one thing wrong with having read Volume 2 of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: I can't find any pre-order listings for Volume 3. When is Volume 3 coming out???? If any of you guys know, please tell me!
The first issue in this volume felt a little scattered and unfocused, which is why this is a 4.5 star review instead of a 5 star review, but even in the first issue, there were bits I found really funny, and after that, I just kept on laughing out loud and loving it all the way through. I can't think of any other comic that feels so joyous, and it just makes me so happy whenever I read it. The humor is so great - both in Ryan North's text and in Erica Henderson's fabulous artwork - and even the letters columns are fun to read. And there are so many joys for a reader in this volume. Squirrel Girl and Nancy get to hang out with Thor! And Loki! And we finally get to see Nancy's fanfic about Cat Thor! And and and....!
I really, really need Volume 3 as soon as possible, please. Please???

And, like, I've never really considered cosplaying much (beyond, say, generic Hufflepuff student), but even though I don't have anywhere to actually cosplay, I was thinking about how I could pull off a halfway decent Squirrel Girl outfit. THIS IS HOW GREAT THIS BOOK IS.
It's too bad Marvel on Comixology doesn't let you download your books; otherwise, I'd totally subscribe right this second.

This second volume did not disappoint. I'm only mad at myself for not picking up the series last year when people began raving about it. As usual, I'm late to the party. But better late than never, because it has quickly shot up my list of comic faves. If you like puns, friendships, squirrels, and hilarity (and why wouldn't you like any or all of those things?), I cannot recommend this enough.

More fast-paced fun in this volume! I loved meeting new superheroes Chipmunk Hunk and Koi Boy, and the first issue, where bystanders tell stories they've heard about Squirrel Girl, is hilarious. Love this series!

I adore Squirrel Girl. The art is fun and the stories make me smile. This collection gave a lot more page time to Doreen's cat-loving friend Nancy, who is awesome--and her creation Cat-Thor even came to life thanks to Loki. The flashbacks to the old Squirrel Girl were the one off-note for me, as for some reason I find the old art (even redone in modern style) kinda creepy.

This series continues to be fun! I love how lighthearted it is but at the same time puts a different spin on the story. Defeating the bad guy is not the standard beat it out. Although there is fighting, Squirrel Girl is always looking for that alternative to end the fight. Interaction with Nancy and her new friends is fun and I love how the popular superheroes are portrayed. Definitely going to keep going!

This title continues to delight. It's just so enthusiastic about everything that you can't help but love it. I like that they are including the letters pages in the reprints. I always enjoyed reading those back when letters pages in comics were a common thing. It's so nice to realize that other folks are as into a title as you are.
Cat Thor! Yes! And Loki! North has the bickering siblings thing down pat. Nice to see a particular character from Norse mythology making an appearance ...
They almost lost me with the Girl Squirrel thing. It seemed a little too far over the top, but then, where they went with it ... wow!
We also get more classic SG reprints from various odd titles. I'm realizing that, while I did read her first appearance when it came out, I never saw anything further until this current series. Shows how memorable that first story was. Steve Ditko knows how to make a lasting impression ...

Imagine that with Squirrel Girl.
Also, there's screaming at zoo animals, a hippo man, a legitimately terrifying squirrel-based foe, and reprints of some of Doreen's fun old appearances.

Squirrel Girl is irreverently funny and chock full of (squirrel) girl power. Doreen Green's roommate, Nancy Whitehead is one of my all-time favorite characters. Her Cat Thor fan fiction is pure genius. As with the first volume, I had some trouble reading the font. My eyes are horrible and the font seems extra tiny, especially the quips at the bottoms of the pages. Also, I could really do without the older versions of Squirrel Girl that keep getting thrown in--what's up with those weird Joker eyes??

I love Squirrel Girl. Can we get a SG movie? I love her cheesy jokes, I love the self love and she is the most positive person (super or regular) ever. She tries to talk out all problems before she kicks major bad guy rump. Cat Thor was great also Loki in general. One of my favorite things is that the rest of the Marvel Universe is in her stories too and they have such mixed feelings about her, plus she goes from fangirling over them to acting like it's not big deal that she's talking to Thor on the phone.

I enjoyed the first ones second half but this volume kind of dragged and dragged. The start of it was fun enough, and I still LOVE the twitter parts of it but the rest...trying too hard to be funny/cute and it's kind of just boring. The art is still just okay and the story just goes at a snail's pace. I think might drop this one, for it's not bad, it's just not for me.
