Write what you know. I've taken this advice to heart, creating characters from small towns and plots that unfold in the great outdoors. A recent empty nester, I grew up in a tiny Northern California town and currently live in beautiful Lake Tahoe with my husband. When I'm not busy writing, I hike or snowshoe in the woods around my home. Discover the beauty of nature woven into my fast-paced romantic suspense novels.
I enjoyed this book so much! Very great romance, and great mystery! And family dynamics, I could feel for Rachel and Lark, seeing as I've only recently been slowly leaving the rebelling parents phase!
Now, how could I pass up that yummy cover? Although, why is head chopped off? That's a cover trend I intensely dislike. Anyway, the book. Delicious cover, hot hero, mostly smart heroine, lots of heat. The romance rocked but the suspense part, not so much.
Kane, a cop on an extended vacation, and Rachel, a single mother meet when a friend of his is dating her sister. There's an immediate attraction between them. Shortly after meeting, Rachel and her oldest daughter Lark have a come-to-Jesus meeting when she lies to her mother about where she's going and gets a tattoo. She's only 14. Rachel takes her kids to a camp owned by Kane's brother and she and Kane hook up. The heat between them is strong but of course there are obstacles: she hasn't been involved with anyone since she and her husband, now dead, divorced. Kane was injured on the job and his partner died; now he's rethinking his life and what he wants to do.
The romance between Kane and Rachel moves quickly even though Rachel puts on the brakes on repeatedly due to her concerns about her daughters. Kane is amazingly supportive and patient, and he even cooks. I want a Kane of my very own and I don't have any daughters to harass me over whom I'm dating. Again, Kane is amazingly patient and supportive but he also knows when to take the hard line.
When Rachel acquires a stalker who attacks her, Kane is immediately there, offering his bodyguard services as well as investigative services. I found it odd and unlikely that the local police were so welcoming of his assistance and he was allowed to do so many suspect interviews. Honestly, he did most of the legwork, with the police's blessing which, as I said, I just didn't find believable.
Gallant gives us a few scenes from the stalker's POV, without revealing his identity, but they didn't add anything to the story. It would have been a stronger story without those scenes. She does give us some believable red herrings concerning the stalker's identity and his motivation is believable if unoriginal.
The romance portion of the story is both sweet and hot and I was rooting for Kane and Rachel (I keep wanting to type Kane and Abel! :D ) to work things out and stay together. The mystery is adequate; I didn't feel the suspense, it was mild but it did add a little spice to the story. The characters though are delightful: smart, sassy, believable, and people I'd like to meet. I mentioned that Rachel was mostly smart; she does one TSTL thing at about 90% into the book that had obvious consequences. It had to happen, to up the drama, but it was stupid and careless of Rachel. I'm sure Gallant could have found another way to bring about the ending without making Rachel behave so stupidly. Still, I enjoyed the book and would read more in this series.
Reading a book should be an experience. It should be a ride. This book was an experience, for sure, but one I would rather forget.
I’m not bothering to give you a synopsis of the book, because I seriously, cannot be bothered having to rehash what I just read.
I have to give the author some credit, the mystery in this novel was well crafted and while I guessed who the bad guy was ahead of time, it was interesting turning the pages to read more about Rachel’s stalker. However, the mystery ended up being THE ONLY reason I actually finished this book. This is a romance novel, so that is not a good thing.
Rachel. You had such promise at the start. I don’t know what happened to you, but you became too stupid to live pretty quickly after meeting Kane. What’s that? You have a stalker? Of course you should go out and have sex in public. Also, your bi-polar changes in character, from reserved, shy single mother, to sex in public nympho, made no sense and left me confused.
Kane. I really do not have many thoughts towards you. I didn’t buy the romance you had with Rachel and you didn’t leave much of an impression on me at all. Sure, some of the stuff you did to protect Rachel was sweet, but some of it was also beyond stupid.
The dialogue in this, was terrible. It was awkward, stilted and overly wordy. And if I had to read one more time about how Rachel needed to think of her girls first, before being happy herself, I think I would have screamed.
The storytelling was, at times, very lazy. Random characters would turn up without being introduced and I was left wondering who on earth they were, why they were there and what they were doing. Overall, there were too many characters and I think at least 1/3 of them were unnecessary.
The romance in this was about as hot as watching an animated Disney movie. I know sometimes I say less is more, but in this instance, more would have brought us up to maybe a PG rating.
I gave myself a headache with the amount of eye rolling I did while reading this book. It was a real battle finishing it and besides the mystery, overall it was not an enjoyable reading experience. I will not be reading any more of this series.
1.5 Stars.

Five reasons to grab a cup of Joe and curl up with Every Move She Makes
The Setting: From the rugged High Sierra campground to the charming coffee shop/book store the protagonist owns in the Napa Valley I found myself feeling right at home with the setting. I love small-towns and their close-knit communities. Rachel lives in a Victorian home complete with a picket fence, children and an over-sized dog. Characters: Rachel Carpenter, former soap star, divorcee and single mother of three girls, she felt genuine and I quickly connected. She relocated to the Napa Valley to be closer to family and open up a bookstore to support her family. She does not date often, and has her head on straight. Kane Lafferty is a police detective on leave after a shooting went wrong. He is burned out and struggling with his own demons when he meets Rachel, through a friend. Kane is sweet, protective and the man can cook. Yum. The kids will steal your heart even the oldest who is snarky, fiercely independent, and fourteen with purple hair! The Plot: I love a good suspenseful story and Gallant built up the suspense. We know someone is watching and we even get a glimpse inside this obsessed fan's mind. It was chilling as he became bolder. To me it was like watching a scary movie where a musical score begins and you know something bad is going to happen. That is how the tale unfolds, you are part of their daily lives, see Kane and Rachel form a relationship and all the while, they are unaware. Eep! The Romance: If you like slow-burning romances with low-heat, sweet moments and dogs underfoot then Every Move She Makes, has a romance you will enjoy. While Rachel and Kane spend more time together, the romance did not overshadow the suspense and their feelings felt genuine. The kids forced things to develop slowly despite the sexual tension between them. The writing: Gallant created a suspenseful tale as she increased the intensity with every page. She fleshed out the characters and kept them grounded with small-town living and daily life. The tale was realistic without over the top drama or unrealistic action scenes.
** I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher Lyrical Press Kensington via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication date is March 31st 2015**
This book kept my attention captured so much that I read it in one sitting. I think the main factor is that there was a real creep factor to the story. I tend to shy away from creepy reads, not sure why as I enjoy them when I sit down with one, however this book was well balance between the romance and the creepy/suspense factor.
As the reader you do not get to see the perspective of the stalker very often but when you do it really makes your skin crawl. The majority of the time the story is being told from Rachel and Kane's perspective and you only see the actions the stalker takes. This was good for me since the story didn't get caught up in trying to be too weird.
I liked Kane and Rachel together from the start. I also like that I did not have to endure the endless...I'm attracted to you but I can't be with you scenario that is so common. The story focuses on how they have to cope with a new romance with all of the drama of a ready made family and a stalker. I did not like having to read about the attitude of 14 year old Lark. I would not tolerate her behavior at all but then again maybe that is the reason I don't have children.
This was a nice way to spend an afternoon immersed in some romance and suspense all in one.
Random thought: The main character had a Golden Retriever which automatically makes me a little bit biased as they truly are the best dogs out there
4.25 Stars A captivating Romantic Suspense with exceptionally well-drawn and heart-warming family dynamics. Rachel is loving mom to three precocious daughters who is lonely even though her life is busy and her career fulfilling. As a young woman, Rachel was a fan-favorite on a daily soap opera. Now, someone fixated on that naïve and easily seduced character, is stalking her. The tension mounts as Rachel and her family must deal with the menace. When a police officer who is on leave for personal reasons offers to protect Rachel and investigate possible suspects, the stalker becomes even more unbalanced and unpredictable.
It is rare to find a story about a single mom with three children where the children are very much central to the storyline. I loved the dialogues between the sisters and especially between the rebellious fourteen-year-old and her exasperated mom. I think sometimes there was a bit of over-sentimentality, but actually it just made me love this book all the more. The suspense element was creatively handled so that the tension continually mounted as the story unfolded. This novel can be enjoyed easily by women of any age. It is a feel-good story and great entertainment for a lazy afternoon.
In Jannine Gallant's Every Make She Makes, the first installment in the Who's Watching Now romantic suspense series, this compelling debut will send you shivers with every turning page. For Rachel Carpenter, a divorced mother of three girls, and a former soap actress, she had an ideal life for her family. But when her eldest daughter Lark got into hot trouble with her, she thought a time away to a peaceful camp is what they needed. That's when she met Kane Lafferty, a cop who's dealing with some issues of his own, and met her there. He was met her through Rachel's sister's boyfriend Nolan at the time and brought out the idea. For Rachel and Kane, they had instant chemistry to heat up their relationship, when they needed to take things slow. But someone was watching Rachel and wanting her for his own. After the camp, things get dicey and accelerated, when her stalker came after her outside of her home, and then near her family. Kane decided to take things seriously and personally to look into the dilemma with the sheriff's office and started to narrow it down to two suspects they had met from the same camp. And when things turned desperate for Rachel, she would do anything to protect her daughters and face her perverted creep as Kane would deal with his inner demons and face them dead on to fight for her life.
WOW. This was really good! Romantic suspense is a tough genre for me to find books that I like. I just think it's a tough genre to write. Some authors put in too many different suspenseful scenarios that just don't go or really make sense but then others don't write suspense all the way through out the book and is trumped by romance. Jannine Gallant did a wonderful job with this. There was a good amount of romance and suspense throughout. *Side note: I was pretty creeped out in some of the scenes, especially the ones in the stalker's POV. I should not have read this on the one night that I was alone, no dogs or humans in the house. It was creepyyy.
My only problem with the book was how it wrapped up in the end. Other than that, I really had no problem with book.
The thing that I enjoyed the most about EVERY MOVE SHE MAKES is that Gallant created a lead female character that felt more on the "normal" every day woman side of things despite Rachel being a former soap star. Rachel is a single mother of three, working to keep her life in some semblance of order with an adult lifestyle with adult issues. Rachel has to deal with family issues like one of her daughter's acting out, a lack of an intimate relationship for herself, as well as just trying to keep her family safe and herself sane. Kane is a strong, stable, and calm character that steps in when Rachel's stalker decides to come out of the shadows. Although there is romance in this one, the main focus is on the suspenseful plot. EVERY MOVE SHE MAKES is an easy to read page turning romantic suspense story.
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Every Move She Makes moved really well, the characters were good, and so was the story.
Kane is trying to make decisions in his life after a accident at work. Rachel is moving on with life after her ex husbands death and her girls are now into their own thing.
A trip to a retreat has Kane and Rachel becoming close and fast. however what they dont expect is the guy lurking in the woods. This story is their journey to letting go of their pasts and having something for themselves while they battle a stalker who wont let Rachel's past be in the past.
Kane and Rachel need each other, they just don't know it for a while. Kane is the rugged but sensitive cop haunted by a case gone horribly wrong. Rachel is a single mother struggling to raise three daughters, each in various stages of adolescence. Enough chaos going on to try anyone's soul, when suddenly Rachel's life is in danger and Kane will do anything to save her. A well written and satisfying read from the romance between the central characters to the suspense that nearly does them both in. Believable characters facing plausible issues. Highly recommended.
1.5 stars I have a lot of feelings about this book that I can't really put into words so this might be a bit of a strange review. The blurb of this puts it right up my alley. As much as I am my own white knight in real life I have a book stiffy for a book hero. Unfortunately this lacked anything emotionally provoking. The writing was technically proficient but it read more like a book about writing romances than a romance. The characters were flat and one dimensional...a little boring frankly. The romantic development varied from making no sense to over the top. "Oh we can't be together...timing" two pages letter: lets bang in a canoe but it only lasts 30 seconds (sad) "oh we should probably take some time make sure no rash decisions" "lets move in together and declare our undying love to each other because of a stalker". They barely new each other and by the end it was all sunshine and rainbows and happy ever after. The stalker plot wasn't even terribly interesting same lack of emotional impact everything else did. It was a plot point to throw them together and expedite the I love yous. Tldr: There's nothing really wrong with this it's just...blah
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the first book in the Who's Watching Now series. I found the first part of this book slow moving, and I almost gave up on this book. I am happy I did not DNF this book. I did enjoy the book once it got going. I found the fourteen girl reminded me of my daughter, and I really connected with having a teenage daughter that would act just like her. I loved all the suspense and the teenager drama going on in this book. I think if I did not have a teenager some of the teenager drama would drive me crazy.
This is my first time reading Jannine Gallant it won't be my last! The mystery was good and it led me to the right person, despite a couple of red herrings. The dialogue with the older daughter was believable and now I'm definitely ready to begin book 2 of the three book series! YAY! A new author for me to enjoy!
This is a romantic thriller that keeps you engaged from beginning to end. I enjoyed this new series from a new to me author and look forward to more.
Rachel is a single mom raising three girls, a former soap opera actress who was also married to a football star. She currently lives near her family, owns a bookstore and is getting her life back on track after several missteps.
Kane is a homicide detective, taking some time off after a traumatic experience at work. His partner was killed along with another young man and he is having a hard time dealing with it. He plans to head to the mountains to regroup at his brother Jed’s retreat camp.
Rachel has her hands full with her three daughters, especially her oldest Lark who is pushing all her buttons lately with a tattoo, dyed hair and an attitude to match. After meeting and talking to Kane, she decides that the retreat camp is just what she needs and books a week-long trip. Kane is happy to see her and they make plans to spend time together. She enjoys the stay but believes she is being watched and on their way home while visiting her in-laws her fears are realized when she is attacked. This brings out the protective instincts in Kane as he tries to help, but the danger is not over yet.
Every Move She Makes is an enjoyable suspense with several twists that kept me turning the pages until the end.
Rachel is a very likable woman, a single mom who struggles to raise three girls after the divorce and death of her ex-husband. The girls take everything out of her, especially Lark who is pushing all the wrong buttons. I like that she has a strong supporting family and enjoy how they interact throughout the book. When she meets Kane, a good looking detective, she is intrigued and follows through when he mentions a week-long retreat, not only for herself but also for the girls.
Kane is suffering from a trauma; he was involved in a shooting that killed his partner and the suspect. When he meets Rachel he likes her immediately and is pleasantly surprised when she shows up at his brother’s mountain retreat and takes advantage by spending time with her. They hit is off very well, the chemistry is definitely there as they find time to be alone amid the chaos of camping. When she is threatened, his alpha protectiveness is apparent and I like how his growing feelings show.
The threats accelerate after they leave the mountains and Kane does not want to be away from Rachel. Along with the growing danger, Rachel’s daughter Lark is causing more problems, she resents Kane and acts out which leaves her in danger. The author did a great job with the kids; Lark is a very realistic teenager who resents anything new, including a new father figure when she has not gotten over the death of her own father, and although sympathetic, I did want to yell at her a few times when she continued to act out.
The pace is fast, the author keeps you guessing throughout the story as to who the culprit is until the end. Secondary characters all play important roles; Rachel’s daughters are cute and exhausting as kids usually are and Rachel’s family is very close and supportive, which helps. This is the first in the series and I recommend it for those that enjoy romance with a bit of suspense and danger.
I was pleasantly surprised in reading this book, I picked it up because it sounded intriguing but you never really know when going into a new author how it's going to work out. I was hooked I didn't want to put it down it's been a while since I read a good romantic suspense and I'm loving it so much. It's a series so I'm going to be following it as long as she writes great books,
When I went into the book I was thinking this is going to be a good romance, but it was also an amazing mystery. I kept trying to figure out based on the clues she gave us who the stalker was and I was so certain I was right that when it happened I was like Wait What the What??!!! LOl it was worth that moment because well everything was laid out a bit differently than the actual answer.
I loved that the relationship took it's time to build, & the characters remained true to themselves throughout the novel. I really enjoyed how the progression took place, and that they admitted that it was fast tracked because of the circumstances, they admitted that they wanted more but the love word didn't come up for a while and I can't tell you how refreshing it was to read a good romance that builds instead of diving in right away. (not that I don't love those too). I really loved how each character was written and felt really happy when we met Rachel's friends and saw her life, because as she said her life was great, it would be enhanced by a happy relationship but her kids and her life came first and I just loved that!!
I will say that I got extremely emotional and attached to the characters. I freaked out when our lead Rachel had her too stupid to live moment and I wanted to kick her butt severally. Her daughters were a riot and I loved her sister Gracie, I was really happy to see a sisterly relationship that was fun and supportive instead of being a train wreck. I loved her family as well and I loved the relationships she had with her in laws. It felt realistic and I loved how even though they didn't always get along Rachel still made an effort to make her relationships work.
I would to know what happens to Lark because really my mother freaked out and I was a whole grown woman when I got mine. I want to know if Lark is still a brat or did she grow the heck up. I want to know about Rose as well. When Rachel had her TSTL moment and I was having mild coronary, I kept yelling at the kindle because it was so good. I was so invested and wanted the best for them. It's highly emotional moment and I'm glad Kane knew it and was willing to do whatever was necessary to make Rachel happy.
The world building was done well,m the mystery carried off excellently and the romance just beautiful. I loved how you felt this could be happening without it being too far out of this world. I'm hoping that we get a story from Gracie, and it would be awesome to the children grown up. I really enjoyed reading Jannine's writing and I'm looking forward to the other books.
★★★★☆ I Highly recommend if you love a good mystery and a great romance. Have you read this one yet?? Happy Reading
Rachel Carpenter was a former soap actress, now a divorcee and a single parent to 3 daughters. She is very down to earth and genuine and I enjoyed how the author had written about the day to day life with her 3 daughters and it's very easily relatable without feeling being overwhelmed. Since her divorce and the death of her ex husband, she has been focussed in managing her book store as well as her children that she hadn't had time for herself. While she was out for lunch with Grace, she met with Nolan, Grace's current boyfriend and Kane his colleague. For some reason, she couldn't take her eyes off Kane and the attraction was mutual.
Kane is a detective currently on leave after an incident at work which left him feeling emotionally drained. Being a divorcee himself, he isn't looking to be in another relationship but with Rachel, he couldn't seem to control the feelings he's having for her.
Rachel and Kane's feelings developed further when she brought her daughters to a wilderness camp which is run by Kane's brother Jed and in which Kane is temporarily helping out. While at camp, there were a couple of occasions when Rachel felt the chills in her spine but she dismissed those feelings as paranoia.
Unbeknownst to her, someone is indeed watching. He has been watching Rachel for years ever since he first laid eyes on her soap opera and with each day that Rachel is getting closer to Kane, he is getting frustrated and is determined to show her that he is the only man for her.
This book is by a new to me author and I must say I was pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed it so much that I finished the book in a few hours. The characters are easily connectable and well written including the children. There is a build up in the romance which speaks of the maturity of the two main leads and Rachel's responsibility as a mother. In whatever she does, her daughters are her first priority. The suspense increased in intensity as the story developed. You get a glimpse of what goes on in the mind of the obsessed stalker and it gets chilling enough that you feel as if you're watching a movie. I did however feel that the ending could have been better and with an epilogue included.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love romantic thrillers. The anticipation, the danger. I watch these on the Lifetime television channel. The movie names always scream suspense: Accused at 17, Abducted, A Killer Upstairs. You get the picture.
Romance blended with suspense is also the perfect book mix. So, that is why I chose to read, Every Move She Makes by Jannine Gallant. The book is about former soap star, Rachel Carpenter, who is now divorced with three children. Unbeknownst to Rachel, an obsessed fan is stalking her.
While having dinner with her sister, Rachel meets Kane Lafferty, a San Francisco police detective. Kane tells Rachel he will be helping his brother run a wilderness camp in the High Sierras. Rachel is intrigued and decides to take her children to the camp to enjoy the outdoors and also to see Kane again.
However, the stalker is angry Rachel is spending time with Kane. He thinks it’s time to claim her.
Pros
For me, Every Move She Makes has all the elements of a good Lifetime movie: romance, drama, and suspense.
The romance between Kane and Rachel happens naturally even though they haven’t known each other long. Kane is an awesome guy, who seems to have it all. He’s sexy and bad ass but has a heart of gold. Even though Kane has his own problems, he immediately steps in to help Rachel. In addition, he drives Rachel’s girls to their various activities, cooks and does household chores!
Rachel is a good compliment to Kane. She’s not only attracted to him but appreciates all the help he gives her. In return, Rachel supports Kane emotionally and she and her children add light to his life.
The unknown stalker in the story drives the feeling of mounting danger. Throughout the book I was trying to guess his identity. Who was he? The author keeps you guessing until the last chapters.
Cons
I don’t have any complaints about the story.
Conclusion
If you like to read romantic suspense, I recommend reading this book. The romance was perfect between Kane and Rachel and the stalker added the element of imminent danger.
Thoughts: Every Move She Makes manages to strike a nice balance between romance and suspense. The blurb was good if a little typical of these types of romances, but enough hat I was willing to take a chance on it, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. While it is a bit of a slow paced/slow building story – which is odd if you are looking for a suspense story that is more action based – I found that it added more to the romance aspect to the story, particularly when it came to the fact that Rachel was a single parent dealing with three daughters (not all of which were on board with mom having a new romance in her life). It also allowed for more of a connection with the characters. Although, Rachel’s daughter Lark hits more into troubled teen territory – at times it seems as if she resents her mother’s soap star background and popularity, others it seems more because of the divorce – but I really felt for Lark, yet at the same time found her driving me crazy! The author definitely pegged the angst behind a teenager very well. Though Lark takes it to the extreme with some of her crazy stunts and behaviors! Again, just very well written characters, very relatable and engaging. The suspense was well done and well paced, if a little predictable for the most part. The ending was the best part for me. Not to give anything away, but I will say that it was not so much in the psychopath or the actions of that character, but in the way that it was handled by the other character(s) that is what really added to my enjoyment of the ending. All in all, this is a great book though it may not be for everyone. If you are looking for more intense passion, some serious action and drama, fast paced and/or shocking storylines this book just might not be what your looking for. On the other hand, if you are looking for enjoyable characters and slower paced storylines with deeper connections this one is a great one to pick up! I received a complimentary book from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This is a new author to me, but I was looking forward to reading this book because it is in my favorite genre, romantic suspens. Rachel Carpenter used to be a regular on a soap opera. She is divorced and has three children and is now the owner of a book star. She is close to her sister, Grace, who is outgoing and crazy in a fun way. Rachel, on the other hand, is a more quiet and introverted person.
Grace's boyfriend is a cop who brings along his detective friend when he met Grace and Rachel after work. Kane is good-looking and very much the gentleman but he has his own problems. He has to take two weeks off and he spends them at a wilderness camp so he can relax and get his thoughts together and work on his problem. Rachel brings her three daughters and also goes to the wilderness camp which is where their feelings begin to grow slowly. I really like this, because this is more reality. People are attracted to each other and then, as they get to know each other better, they find themselves slowly falling in love.
Then there is the "monster," Rachel's stalker who wants Rachel to belong to him. He is constantly watching her and waiting until he can make his move.
I likes this book because the characters are realistic. Rachel puts her children first. Her oldest is getting involved in things that she should not be doing at 14 years old, so her mother decides to go to the wilderness camp to get her away from the friend who is instigating the events. I love that the author lets us see inside the stalker's mind, so we get an idea of how jumbled and irrational his thoughts are.
I am not sure if this is the first in a series or if there were other books before this. However, it doesn't matter because, either way, I had not problem understanding everyone's background. I did see that the author has another book in this series coming out in July, so I am definitely looking forward to reading that book.
After reading the blurb for Every Move She Makes I was sure I would love it and once I read the prologue and realized that I'd have the chance to get inside the stalkers head my expectations went up a notch or two. Unfortunately, while the premise of the story was good, I found the overall book lacking.
Rachel is a single mom of three girls, one of which is a rebellious teenager, and is trying to live her life the best she can while focusing on them and them alone. She runs a bookstore near her family's vineyard and while her life is safe and dependable she realizes after meeting Kane through her sister that her love life is severely lacking.
Kane is taking a break from his job as a detective when he meets Rachel and suggests that she bring her girls to his brothers retreat during summer break. What ensues from there is a fast building relationship between the two. And once Rachel's stalker comes into play their relationship is kicked into high gear when Kane takes it upon himself to protect her.
While the suspense aspect of the book was great I was really disappointed with the romance. I understand that it was pushed to the back burner while Rachel and her girls were in danger but some of the reasoning was so redundant and then when they did come together it was more to lure the stalker out than for enjoyment. I guess I just missed the connection between the two and really hoped for more, especially after the stalker was caught.
Every Move She Makes definitely had promise but in the end it was just an okay read for me. The ending was way to abrupt in my opinion and an epilogue definitely would have been helpful. I'm thinking we might see more of Rachel, Kane, and the girls since the next book in the series is about Rachel's sister, Grace, so maybe I'll find my closure there.

Once in a while you read a blurb, get all excited, then once you start reading you find it just doesn't live up to your expectations. This, unfortunately, was the case for me with Every Move She Makes.
The premise behind the story was pretty good. Former star living a quiet life with her family, meets hubba-hubba hunk cop, ends up having a fanatic stalker, said hubba-hubba rescues her from the stalker and they live happily ever after. Of course I expected heat, serious action, scary moments, good characters, the works. They were all there but something about them all felt flat. There was heat but not at the hot temps I normal enjoy. The scary moments didn't have my hair standing on end. The action...not so much. As for the characters, I think it was Lark that really started turning me off. If my daughter had pulled some of the stunts she did I would not have handled it as calmly as Rachel did. Once I figured out who the stalker was my attention span started to fade.
Really there isn't anything truly wrong with the story. It actually reminded me of the Harlequin romances I use to read in high school. Ones I have long since outgrown. Every Move She Makes just didn't have the certain something special I needed to hold my attention. I have friends who like romances a bit tamer and I'll be sure to tell them about this book. But for me, I'll take a pass.
I received this book from the JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.
I love a romantic suspense book where the heroine is being stalked by a psychopath.
I loved Rachel she is a single mom struggling with three kids one a rebellious teenager who is on the road to being a troublemaker. To get her daughter away from bad influences and to spend some family time together she plans a camping trip. She recently met a handsome man, a San Francisco police officer on vacation who mentioned his brothers business, a campground up in the mountains. Kane Lafferty is on the verge of being burned out he decides to take some time to himself to sort out if he wants to continue being a police officer. Spending the time at his brother campground helping out is the thing he needs, and when the gorgeous woman he met in San Francisco shows up with her girls in tow she is a pleasant distraction. It's an instant attraction that they are willing to find out where it could lead.
After Rachel and her girls leave Rachel is attacked and it turns out this person has been stalking her for a long time. He keeps referring to her by the name of a character she played when she was a soap actress years ago. Scared for Rachel, Kane rushes to her to protect her. Working with her small town Sheriff Kane helps try and track down the stalker all the while winning over Rachel's daughters.
This book had everything I ask for in a romantic suspense; great romance, great suspense and just the right amount of action to keep me turning the page until the end. I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next book in the series.
I would first like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for providing us with a copy of this book so that we could bring you this review.
Oh talk about an awesome story… You want a romantic suspense this is the one for you. I loved that we got three points of view in this story. We get to see what is going on through Kane’s view, Rachel’s and the stalkers. Now throughout the story we get little clues on who it is that can be the one that is stalking Rachel but it isn’t until the end that we really find out who it is. But I have to say it is so much fun trying to figure it out. And could you just imagine the kind of life that Rachel has to live not knowing who is after her, why they keep messing with her life. Its a bit of a scary thought really, but then she has sexy Kane to help her out. Kane of course is dealing with a lot on his own, but Rachel and her stalker help him see what is really important in life.
Another thing about this book that I liked was that I could relate to Rachel as far as how things are with a teenage daughter. I know this is a short review, but I really just don’t want to give anything away.
I definitely give this book 5 amazing kisses and I promise you it is worth reading.
Rachel Carpenter is an ex-soap star who's been taking care of her three daughters since her divorce and death of her ex-husband. She spends her time between her bookstore and her parents vineyard. While having lunch with her sister Grace, Rachel meets Detective Kane Lafferty. She takes his suggestion to take her girls camping at a nearby wilderness retreat run by his brother. While at the camp, Rachel & Kane begin spending more and more time together. Unknown to them, Rachel has a stalker. This stalker is fixated on Rachel's soap character "Jordan Hale" and believes she belongs to him. The more time Rachel and Kane spend together, the more agitated and aggressive the stalker becomes and soon makes his move. Will Kane be able to protect Rachel and the girls while trying to hunt down & identify the stalker?
I really liked this book! Both the romance and mystery within the story held my attention and had me trying to guess what was happening next. The interactions between the characters seemed pretty real and believable.
NOTE: I received a copy of this book in-exchange for my honest opinion/review.
Rachel Carpenter, former soap star, now mother of three vivacious daughters is struggling. After her ex-husband died in an accident, her oldest who is 14 has been acting out. Her latest act of defiance has Rachel deciding to take a vacation at a wilderness camp for a week. Rachel could say her only reason for going is to take care of her girls, but after meeting Kane Lafferty, who told her about the camp, Rachel's interest is peaked.
For Rachel her priority is the girls, Kane understands this but is not sure he is any shape for a relationship. As a cop grappling with his own baggage he feels something strong for Rachel and her girls. As they begin to explore their feelings for one another everything shifts when it becomes clear Rachel has a stalker who will stop at nothing to get to her.
I have always been a fan of Jannine Gallant and this is another fantastic read. The oldest daughter, Lark, was a pill but i could so see her as a teen trying to find her way. Loved the kids, they were a huge part of the story and liked that Rachel and Kane make them their focus as well. One to definitely pick up.
Jannine Gallant Makes All The Right Moves In EVERY MOVE SHE MAKES!!! I really liked this book! It dealt with the real life issues of what it is like to bring a man into your life when you have children. Kane is a definite hottie and Rachel is a confident heroine who has her head put together. There are a lot of likely suspects to make you wonder who did it and the story is paced well. The portions from the bad guy's point of view were well-written and chilling. Lark, Rachel's teenaged daughter, is appropriately a pain in the derriere. Having had a similar problem when my mom remarried, I could identify. The ending was well-done, a real nail-biter. AND she used song lyrics in the title! Clever! And for a woman who loves her rock and roll, it really drew me to it! Good job, Ms. Gallant!
RACHEL IS A DIVORCED, WIDOWED, EX-SOAP STAR, BUSINESS OWNER AND A SINGLE PARENT OF THREE GIRLS. HER PLATE IS VERY FULL LITTLE DOES SHE KNOW THAT SHE ALSO HAS A STALKER THAT IS COMING FOR “HIS OLY TRUE LOVE”, HER. RACHEL IS FIGHTING AN UPHILL BATTLE BALANCING WORK AND HER ONE REBELIOUS DAUGHTER LARK WHO IS SUFFERING FROM BEING FOURTEEN AND THE LOST OF HER FATHER. SHE DECIDES TO TAKE THEM ALL ON A CAMPING TRIP TO RELIEVE SOME OF THEIR STRESS (yeah right). I KNOW THAT STALKING ISN’T A JOKE I’VE WATCHED TV ABOUT IT AND IT CAN’T BE EASY BEING THE OBJECT OF SOME SICK PERSON’S DELUSIONAL AFFECTIONS. I DID THINK THE CHARACTER’S BEHAVIOR GOT A LITTLE STUPID TOWARD THE END WHICH PISSED ME OFF A BIT BUT I ENJOYED IT ANYWAY. ;D
