Teri spends most of her time, hanging out on a small farm in Vermont with Murdock (pictured), Izzie, and 6 goats! .
When not working or writing, Teri is an avid and unrepentant science fiction junkie, and enjoys most outdoor activities, from hiking to skiing, to good company around a bonfire.
music ranges all over the charts- from classical, to native american to alternative.
TV shows- game of thrones, WENTWORTH, dark matter (so far:).
and yes- the caps-key and i have never been close!
This is a delightful and informative book about spiritual, mental and physical health. It is a wonderful depiction of how all three work together to make us who we are- and to explain our level of “happy” in which we find ourselves currently residing.
Teri does an excellent job of explaining the spiritual aspect of the human condition through her own Andean-Peruvian spiritual training. She also does an excellent job of explaining the importance of health and healthy eating and how it contributes to our overall well being. Teri also explains how our psyche contributes to how we feel and act. These three elements create an important synchronism of the “human condition”.
This book is well written. The only criticism that I have is the fact that it has some editing issues. (Hence the 4 star rating). Otherwise, the information Teri passes along is extremely valuable and well presented.
I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to find more meaning in life! This book is also ideal in creating a framework to build more happiness into one’s perspective!
-Diamante Lavendar, author of Breaking The Silence and The Secrets Of Yashire
"Getting a Handle on Happy" is a very in-depth look into the interplay of mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health and points out how we need to start viewing medicines (in a lot of cases) as just a short-term aid to help us get to the place where we can use natural healing techniques and nutrition to encourage the body's own healing and spiritual mechanisms to take over.
I love the balance of the book, honoring that we do need modern medicine but not at the risk of giving over our responsibility for our own healing journey. Taking responsibility is shown in this book as facing our issues, clearing our pasts, changing some basic nutritional habits, and making healthy mental, emotional and physical choices for ourselves.
Teri uses a lot of personally relatable examples to explain her points and teach new skills and coping techniques, and her informal style and humor throughout make the book an enjoyable read. There are also several useful exercises to follow to help the reader start to map out their own thoughts and patterns, and to "help build these new skill sets and coping mechanisms."
I would recommend this book to anyone seeking to find balance in their lives, just starting to/willing to take on the responsibility for their healing choices, and interested in a down-to-earth journey through spirituality.
3 1/2 stars I appreciate the work that goes into books like this. Their goal is to help people and give them advice on how to better their lives. However for someone who has been in the mental health field for ten years like I have most of this information is not new. I think for someone who was struggling this book could be very helpful for them to get themselves back on track. I do disagree with the author in the respect that "pills are a quick fix" For someone who has worked with individuals with serious mental illness no amount of meditation can fix that. Medication is necessary for some people and should not be frowned upon. Now I am not saying this author has bad intentions, I think a lot she suggests are great and are very helpful. I live by many of the same dietary principles and my life has improved greatly since I made that change. So check it out, it may work wonders for you.
