Believe in Yourself

Rate this book
Do you have talents and capabilities that you may not be using to their greatest potential? Do you have dreams you wish to realize? All great accomplishments start with a dream, an idea in the mind of the achiever. In this book, Dr. Murphy shows you how you can make those dreams come true. It starts with developing the right mental attitude—the conviction that you have what it takes. This faith in yourself will enable you to program your subconscious mind to convert your dreams and hopes into achievements. God has given you talents. By developing and using them, you stimulate your conscious mind, which is the motor that energizes the subconscious mind—the engine that will do the work. Within these pages, you will read how poets, artists, inventors, and entrepreneurs implemented their dreams and ideas to become rewarding and profitable accomplishments, and how you can apply the same techniques to enrich your life.

(Arabic: جوزيف ميرفي)
Joseph Murphy was a Divine Science minister and author.

Murphy was born in Ireland, the son of a private boy's school headmaster and raised a Roman Catholic. He studied for the priesthood and joined the Jesuits. In his twenties, an experience with healing prayer led him to leave the Jesuits and move to the United States, where he became a pharmacist in New York (having a degree in chemistry by that time). Here he attended the Church of the Healing Christ (part of the Church of Divine Science), where Emmet Fox had become minister in 1931.

In the mid 1940s, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes, and was ordained into Religious Science by Holmes in 1946, thereafter teaching at the Institute of Religious Science. A meeting with Divine Science Association president Erwin Gregg led to him being reordained into Divine Science, and he became the minister of the Los Angeles Divine Science Church in 1949, which he built into one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country. In the next decade, Murphy married, earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Southern California and started writing. After his first wife died in 1976, he remarried to a fellow Divine Science minister who was his longstanding secretary. He died in 1981.

“Whatever you give attention to will grow, magnify, and multiply in your experience.”

This book explores how having the appropriate mindset can help us achieve success. According to the author, you can establish a positive mental attitude by realising that nothing outside of you can harm you unless you give your mental consent.

The book is like "Power of Your Subconscious Mind" however, in a shorter version. Beginner-friendly, short and a quick read.

This book is so thin. I have completed this book in one day. I didn't liked the book. The only positive I could take from this is, now I have one day read book in my shelve.

Author tried to poured so many thing with minimum and complicated words. Even after reading 10-20 pages I hadn't any idea whats going.

Though I have liked his other books some what more, I would not recommend this book to anyone.

I have already read the book The Power of your Subconscious Mind by him. So, this was like a son to the previous one. I couldn't find anything except the fact that it felt like an outlining of everything of first book. Still, it's a good read and one should read this one in order to understand if they are comfortable with such writings. And, if they are they can preoceed with the other one.

„Uwierz w siebie” to totalnie „Potęga podświadomości” v2. Podsumowując, „no tak średnio bym powiedział”🥴XD

Perhaps best known for his outstanding book, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, Joseph Murphy was also the author of more than 30 books, including this small one, Believe in Yourself.

It’s been awhile since I read, The Power of your Subconscious Mind, so I can’t say that I remember it all that well; however, from what I recall, the message in the two books is very complimentary: you are what you think and if you truly wish to be successful you need to use the conscious mind to program the subconscious mind with success thoughts.

In this book, Dr. Murphy really emphasizes that by focusing our thoughts on the positive and then enlisting the help of our imagination to see our desires as already fulfilled we start a process of manifestation that will ultimately be realized - to the direct extent that we believe in that vision and stay focused on it.

One of the analogies that really cemented this concept for me (pun intended) was that of the architect on how they are able to use their imagination to conceive of and then proceed to draw, in exact proportions, what they imagined. These drawings and designs are then the blueprints that eventually lead to the physical manifestation of their ideas. Houses, buildings, whole cities are first conceptualized, then materialized and we take it for granted, yet it seems that in our personal lives many of us don’t utilize this amazing power of creation.

Dr. Murphy’s message in this book helps reinforce how important it is for us, as individuals, to use our imagination to see an ideal for ourselves and then to unwaveringly hold on to that vision until it becomes our reality, “According to your faith it is done unto you.”

As with many/most/perhaps all of the books in this genre, and by this genre you can use whatever label you like: New Age, New Thought, Metaphysical, Transformational, etc., there is a component that delves into aspects of reality that some people might not be totally comfortable with. This is to say that when dealing with the topic of the mind there is inevitably a discussion of the “unseen” or the spiritual side of our existence as well. This will also lead invariably to the label of “God” being used as well as some Biblical quotes. Personally, I don’t find the use of these labels to be “religious”, I see these terms used merely to define a point of reference to facilitate discussion. As I have said in earlier reviews, I do not have any religious affiliation, nor do I enjoy reading books that promote one particular religion; therefore, if I felt that this book, or any of the books in this genre were too “preachy” or dogmatic, I would likely not read it and I certainly would not post a review.

If you have come to a point in your life where you are interested in a deeper understanding of the nature of reality, how are thoughts create reality and you realize that this discussion necessitates some exploration of the more “ethereal/esoteric” mind-stuff, then this book, and the others written by Joseph Murphy would be valuable additions to your reading list.

Now, I am going to rant a bit about this book.

First of, this is NOT a self help book, it is a religious preaching book. There is all kinds and forms of sermon going on here.

Secondly, this is just an unscientific, unrealistic work of fiction masquerading as reality. There are so many concepts in the book that are just absolutely outlandish, even hilarious to a point. There is a person whose tuberclosis is cured by just imagining, there is a person whose mortgage is paid just by the "power of imagination". It is ridiculous to the point of hilarious.

Thirdly, the major problem I have with books like this and the "Secret" is that : Imagination and positive thinking is great, I believe in it completely. But imagination without hard work, dedication and focus is just wishful thinking. It will accomplish absolutely NOTHING. And the fact that the author even puts down hard work at one point in the book is just outrageous.
Having said that I do agree that you can't make a beethoven or a da vinci with just hard work. But talent and imagination without hard work will NOT get you far in majority of the cases. So to be peddling this stuff with a very dodgy adaptation of religion and god is just lousy beliefs to me.

Overall, if it was not for my problem to finish every book that I start, I would have chucked this book right at the onset, but instead I had to sit through this torture, 50 pages worth of religious hocus pocus of a book.

"Man is the tabernacle of God, and no matter how low a man has sunk, the Healing Presence is there waiting to minister to him. It is within us waiting for us to call upon It. You can use your imagination in all business transactions in a wonderful way. Always imagine yourself in the other fellow's place; this tells you what to do. Imagine the other is expressing all that you long to see him express. See him as he ought to be, not as he appears to be. Perhaps he is surly, sarcastic, bitter, hostile; there may be many frustrated hopes and tragedies lurking in his mind. Imagine whatsoever things are lovely and of good report, and through your imagination you have covered him with the garment of God. God's world of ideals and God's infinite ideas are within him waiting to be born and released. You can say if you wish, "God waits to be born in him." You can open the door, and kindle the fire of God's Love in that man's heart, and perhaps the spark you lit will burst into a Divine Fire."

Believe in yourself by Dr. Joseph Murphy is one of the best self help books I've ever read. And he has become one of my favourite Authors/Teachers of all time. I've understood that most of the time in my life is wasted by thinking negative, speaking negative about someone or something. And I can feel the Alchemy in me. And I'll definitely give an obeisance to him. Truly excited, and I've completed reading this book in one day. He is teaching/explaining us that how good or positive thoughts plays an important role in our life. And believing in ourselves can make an Alchemy. He is injecting some good ways/techniques for believing in ourselves and positive thoughts. And how it can change us in our lifestyle, job, business and all. The language used in this book is very easy and it is really a small 80 pages book. So anyone can read and understand this book very easily.

Truly educating.

This book was mind-blowing. It was truly phenomenal, I loved every page of this book and I also loved the writing of this book. It was such an enchanting experience for me that I couldn't stop reading it. I read it in one sit and I feel like I have learnt something really valuable. If you dream, you can make it a reality. The quotes the lines, the words, each and everything was so beautifully described that I was just wondering how beautiful it must have been for those people who had a chance to listen to Dr Joseph Murphy. I have read his The Power of your Subconscious Mind and trust me, there isn't a day when I don't remember it's teaching and I always try to follow them. This is all I need from a book. It was short but I wanted to read more of it. I can't wait to get my hands on another masterpiece of Dr Joseph Murphy. Loved loved loved it.

WE Believe in everything and everybody else and also depend only on those believes in case of a dilemma but from this book i was able to understand more than your belief in any religion or anyone in this universe you gotta believe in yourself because self belief is vital in case of living meaningfully and also help you a lot in attainment of success in both career and relationships.
I was the one who blamed god for the bad things happening to me but Dr. joseph murphy made it clear that god and myself are not such different things and belief in both myself and god will surely lead into a successful and purposeful life.
I recommend this book to all out there whom are feeling a little bit low in being themselves and believing in themselves.
