Sterek There aren’t really words for this – “sure, dude. Let’s hang out sometime and bond over the fact that our lives suck and we’ve both basically killed a bunch of people by accident” somehow doesn’t roll off the tongue. -- Prompt: In the aftermath of 3B, Stiles and Derek learn to trust, learn to fuck, and learn to love themselves, each other, and their pack. Words:16546 complete
Stiles' POV, takes place in that weird vague period of time between S3B and S4. Spoiler for show:
This is a very wounded - emotionally and sexually - Derek. AND a self loathing, Post-Nogitsune Stiles. So like a hundred on the man-pain factor. Derek is almost skittish when it come to sex and Stiles is hesitant when it comes to emotions. Definitely explores what the show forgot? to in how these two would be effected by the events of S3B.
This was a prime example of how canon Sterek should be written. The aftermath of the nogitsune is understandably rough on all, especially Stiles as he grapples with his guilt. Derek who knows a thing or two about such guilt, allows them to meet on common ground and actually make a stronger connection.
This was not a fun or funny canon piece but actually a quite painful and raw look at these two's struggles. Each being masochistic, feeling undeserving. Each with their own brand of despair, haunted by the past and scared of the future. It is through these very similar feelings, that they connect and fill the void as only one who has been through such a trial by fire can.
Excellent slow burn progression of healing and loving. Read.
Emotional, heartfelt hurt/comfort Sterek where they both help each other accept the past and start living again. Well done. I liked that there was no rush, but the transition felt realistic.
I forgot that I had read this (must have been when glommed a lot of theroguesgambit' fics after enjoying Cross a Canyon) already when Rachel recommended this story, but this was great to read again. It was great to see Derek and Stiles helping each other overcome their residual pain from the Nogitsune and Kate's kidnapping.
This is what I like about Sterek. The way both characters are damaged but manage to reach a common ground, understand each other and help each other. Amidst everyone else, it is just the two of them that see beyond the appearances and have the ability to make a difference for the other.
Stiles is recovering in the aftermath left by the Nogitsune. There is a lot of guilt, remorse, shame which makes it hard for him to be around the group. It's hard for Stiles to draw the line between what the Nogitsune did and what he felt through their bond. Then Derek disappears and it takes the collective minds of everyone to figure out he had been kidnapped by Kate. There is evidence of torture when they do find Derek but he won't talk about it. And somehow, each man takes solace in the other's quiet, unassuming presence. Any advice they receive or give, apply to both men but it is hard to take it to heart. Somewhere along the way, a spark ignites between them and suddenly they're kissing and Stiles feels like things might actually get better. But Derek is still affected by Kate. Things progress slowly between them after that first awkward attempt, giving them time to heal, to trust again, to open up about their nightmares and learn to destroy them.
It's sad and bittersweet but by the end, we get our happily ever after. And you really want that for them, after witnessing the hardships both of them struggled with. Really liked this!

Sterek post-Nogitsune, nie moja najbardziej ulubiona aranżacja, a mimo to mi się podobało. Sposób, w jaki Stiles i Derek odnajdują siebie nawzajem po traumie, naprawdę mnie kupił.
