I heard good things about this book and since it's sci-fi romance, I decided to take a gamble and buy an e-book.

Overall, it was okay. I liked the writing pretty well, the characters pretty well, and the plot pretty well. I think the one thing that made me not love The Promise of Kierna 'Rhoan was that I didn't believe Kira, the MC, was a leader. The author kept telling us she was, and she did a few leader-ish things occasionally and seemed really stressed out, but there had to be SOMEONE more qualified than her to lead. Seriously, choosing her to lead the Shifters to safety would be like choosing Chelsea Clinton to lead our troops out of Iraq. Sure, has parents might know what's going on in the world, but that hardly qualifies her to design military plans / escape strategies. The only reason I can think of for Kira to end up in charge is because the complex where the Shifters were hiding was built under her house. Not a very good reason to put all your hopes in one person, IMHO.

This book is a wonderful scifi romance. It is not erotica but there are some steamy scenes. The main character is a strong woman who really carries the entire story. She is a kick-ass heroine who does whatever has to be done, with a strong sense of honor. The progression from naive innocent to strong leader is shown cleverly over the course of the story. Futuristic, set almost entirely on a planet that is very realistically created. I loved the technology, the story didn't go into a lot of details but there was enough to make it interesting and believable. I loved the aliens and the way humans' ignorant fears of them were portrayed. Lots of great action, and a great conclusion. I liked David, too, he was an interesting character.

Imaginative sci-fi romantic suspense book… Kira has been silently working to save the Shifters on the planet. Her ex-husband heads up the program to exterminate them all. When Kira ends up with one of his officers in her compound, Kira has to decide how far she can trust David. I received a free copy of this book from eBook Discovery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a book that I am so glad that I picked up. This is an excellent sci-fiction book as well as a good romantic suspense book. The concept of how Shifters adapted to the humans on their world was imaginative. I love this book. When I catch up on my reading, I plan to read more in this series.

Missing depth

This story had a lot of promise but did not fulfill it. The backstory of the shifters and when the humans arrived was incomplete. The world-building was lacking and the characters were not fully developed. It felt as though the story picked up and the first half-hour of the movie had been missed. When the two main characters met, it was instalove and that was difficult to accept. The next instalment is $3 and is under 100 pages. Regrettably, the storyline was not enough to entice.

A slow-go in the beginning, but I'm glad I stuck with the story. The back-story/story-reasoning left some to be desired, but the author has great imagination. I received this ebook from eBook Discovery. This is my honest review which I voluntarily post, here.

I love this author's voice. While the heroine had was really torn about her leadership role, it didn't detract from the read. A lovely read.

I liked the heroine immensely. The story was intriguing but lagged toward the end, which took away some of the enjoyment for me. 3.5 stars
