Rain is on spring break with his friends and bored out of his mind—when he's not pining after his best friend Whitney, anyway. Then a storm knocks him overboard and he winds up trapped on an island with an ominous reputation…
Megan is a long time resident of queer romance and keeps herself busy reading and writing it. She is often accused of fluff and nonsense. When she’s not involved in writing, she likes to cook, harass her wife and cats, or watch movies. She loves to hear from readers and can be found all over the internet.
This is a short story from one of my favourite authors. Megan always manages to combine all sorts of different elements into her books, and this was no different. Bored during a holiday with mates from college, Rain ends up stranded on a what appears to be a deserted island, until he is rescued by a fierce looking man. It turns out, not to have been a fortunate rescue, the men on the island like bait such as Rain to hunt and kill and he has to use all his skills and ingenuity go escape. I really hadn't expected the twist at the end though, which is always pleasing. I would have liked a bit more interchange between Rain and Whitney though, it just felt a little rushed, based on what other said, rather than on communication between the two men.
Rain only wanted to spend the holidays near his best friend and long-time crush Whitney, but a sailing accident and a local legend which probably has some truth in it, threaten his holidays and his time with Whitney. Fortunately, there is more to Rain than meets the eye, and every cloud has a silver lining… This is a nice and short story with an unexpected twist. Enjoyable.
A fun little story, Megan Derr style. You will know something were a bit off not long after you read. And then things turn into an unexpected spectacle.
Somewhat humorous play on the original short story by the same title, which was a favorite of mine in elementary school. A modern twist of fantasy spun through made it a fun ending.
An amusing story but I wish there had been a bit more about the two main characters and their history. Rain ends up on a dangerous island, but when there is...the least bit concerned. While the hunters there are 'the best ever' and now hunt men, Rain is unimpressed as he knows truly impressive hunters. We get a brief flash of him and Whitney, and a tantalizing glimpse of what must have been, hunters and dragons, but nothing else. Fun little tease of a story.
I'm a firm believer that Megan Derr can do no wrong. That being said, this story is not my favorite of hers. This is the first of her stories where I felt there was more telling than showing in so far as what was going on and I had only enough time to adjust to that before this story was over.
It's still a good, sweet, and to the point story with just a little bit of action.
I don't know where to begin. Humans hunting humans for sport has been done too many times, and several much better than this. The characters were not believable- gets tossed off a boat and swims, but is really a dragon? Would not have ended up in that situation to begin with.
Only read because I found the sequel free on Amazon. Sequel was marginally better, or at least had a story that has potential.

Entertaining short story. And okay, now the other story in this series made a little more sense (didn’t know it was a sequel). I’d like to know the characters a bit better, though, and see more interaction. Rounding up to 3 stars.
This was a fun little story with a twist I didn't see coming. The execution of the twist left a little to be desired, however, and that, along with some lingering unanswered questions, was entirely the result of the story's brevity.
