Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency, stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident. Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate, only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business.
Daniel might be concerned, but he's not convinced that a bodyguard—and a female one at that—is necessary. A new attack and his niece's urgings are enough to make him reconsider. He and Katie must figure out who's behind the intimidation and threats—before a would-be killer strikes again.
Lynette Eason grew up in Greenville, SC. She graduated from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and then obtained her masters in education from Converse College. Author of twenty inspirational romantic suspense books, she is also a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and Romance Writers of America (RWA). In 1996, Lynette married "the boy next door" and now she and her husband and their two children make their home in Simpsonville, South Carolina."
Yet another of Lynette Eason's books on my favorites list. (And I have a feeling the next one will land there, as well. ;) )
While it did take me a bit to get back into the swing of things with this series (I read the first book nearly a year ago!), it didn't take me long at all to get into the book itself. This book dives right into the suspense with a break-in on page one, a body being found by page four, and a building burning to the ground a few pages later! In fact, so much happened in the first few "minutes" of the book that I found myself instantly absorbed into the story and anxious to find out what would happen next. This is definitely the type of book that makes me want to sit somewhere quiet and just read for hours until I reach the satisfying conclusion of the final chapter. (And I'll pause right here to add that I am so glad these books don't have cliffhanger endings!!)
Let's start with the villain this time, shall we? I suspected the culprit throughout most of the book, but there were certainly still some surprises in store for me despite that. And I was glad of that because, while I do enjoy figuring out the clues to the mystery... I don't want to be able to figure out everything before the final reveal. There's more I would like to say about the "bad guy", but I just can't without spoiling it for those who haven't read the book yet-- I wish I had read this with a friend... :/
Katie and Daniel are great characters who are really able to connect and understand each other. I liked seeing them both grow and their relationship develop throughout the story. The spiritual, emotional, and mental struggles were genuine and well written. Riley is a very mature teenager, in more ways than one, and she's determined to trust God even when it's impossible to understand what His purpose could possibly be (boy, did that strike close to home!).
We get to see more of the other bodyguards in this book, of course. It's nice to be able to kind of continue Olivia's & Wade's story from Always Watching, and to get to know the other characters better as we get ready to read their stories soon.
I'm so glad that I had book 3 on hand already because I was able to pick it up almost as soon as I had put this book down. I'm already halfway through it so be expecting a review for it soon too! :)
Oh, and one more thing-- I just love the name Katie chose for her cat. Creative and significant. If you don't get it, just look it up. ;)
Is it difficult to follow a great novel with an even better sequel?
Yes.
Did Lynette Eason accomplish this with her latest book?
Yes!
Without Warning carried the author's unique style and plenty of entertainment. I liked that even when I figured out some things before they were revealed, Lynette shocked me several times with twists I never saw coming. Funny though, once I thought about them, I realized the foreshadowing and red herrings and other writing tactics every author employs were right in place. I guess it's kind of like a magic show: the closer you look, the less you actually see. In other words, Lynette Eason is still brilliant in the genre of suspense.
The Women of Justice series may still be my favorite Eason series, but the Elite Guardians are a close second! I highly recommend this book and series for anyone who loves suspense.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this second book in the Elite Guardians series by Lynette Eason. I'm never disappointed when I read her books. With lots of action, suspense, and danger, this is a fast paced romantic suspense story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I did some guessing on who the bad guy was and was half right. :D
Daniel is such a good strong male character. He's a great boss, has taken in his niece to raise, and is a Marine, so he has the ability to focus and think clearly in crisis mode. And although he has the basic instinct to want to take charge and be the one who protects everyone, he's good about recognizing that Katie has skills of her own and can handle the pressure. I loved Katie and Daniel's relationship and how it develops naturally throughout the story.
Katie is also a strong character with plenty of training to carry her through her body guard assignments. However, she's also working through a tragedy from her past that has caused her to leave her chosen field and work as a body guard. After being hired by Daniel's niece to guard him, she finds herself facing her biggest fear and turning to the only One who can get her through it.
Daniel's niece, Riley, was also a wonderful character. For a teenager, Riley has a lot of common sense and is very mature. Having been forced to grow up fast due to her parents dying, Riley is very concerned about losing her uncle. After hiring the bodyguards she continues to have an active role in what's happening. I loved her faith and how she gently pushes her uncle to come back to his faith.
If you like romantic suspense, you won't want to miss the books in this series! I can't wait to read the third book!
*Thanks to Revell Reads for a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions stated are my own.*
This one was really good too, but I figured out who the perpetrator was like....pretty soon. As soon as the one character was introduced I was like, yeah, it's him, isn't it? And I was right! Which was honestly kind of disappointing...lol...
Characters: Katie was cool! Her backstory broke my heart because I couldn't imagine being in her shoes in and blaming myself for an event like that. But I did enjoy her character and the ending. Aww!! Daniel was a great guy! I enjoyed him too and his protective instincts! Riley was a darling and I want to be her friend! Quinn...okay, I love Quinn! I can't tell you why because he's so grouchy to everyone but I love him...lol...and he went through a lot in this one. And as always, the other characters were all great!
Themes: Knowing that our prayers aren't always answered the way we want, but also that no matter the outcome God is in control. He will hold us through the hard times and the good, He never leaves. We may not always understand why things happen the way they do, but we can trust that He will work it all out in the end.
Language: N/A
Romance: A few kisses, nothing super detailed.
Overall: This was pretty action-packed and everybody was put through the ringer...for one man's greed. Seriously, that was insane! But always a wild ride that I quite enjoyed! I felt so bad for Quinn though, poor guy. I just started the book about him and Maddy and I'm honestly so excited to learn his backstory! He might just be my favorite character of the series...at least the main series, of the spin-offs, that I read first, Grey is definitely the favorite, and Boss, of course! Anyway, this was a fun read.
This was one of those books that I couldn't put down! I had brought it with me to work to read over my lunch breaks, but soon found that I didn't want my break to end because the book was THAT good.
We meet Katie in the first book where she is one of the bodyguards assigned to the case. But this time, it's her story. We get to know more about Katie and what makes her who she is. I loved her relationship with Daniel as well. He really understood her. And she understood him.
I can't wait to read the third one in the series.
I received this book for free from Revell Books for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
Recommended to fans of Lynette Eason, Irene Hannon, Dani Pettrey, romantic suspense
This one would have been 4 stars but it was ruined because I knew who was causing the problems as soon as the character entered the scene in part because she made a mistake with this being the second book in a series. and also . I have rated Eason's books from 2 to 5 stars, but usually 4. However, she started writing in 2008 and this was published half-way between then and now so I will probably avoid all of her books older than this.
IMO her best series overall that I've read is her Extreme Measures series that starts with Life Flight--while I gave that book 3 stars, I gave the 2nd 4 stars and the last two 5 stars each.
This book. Wowza! Action, suspense, drama, and sweet romance all rolled into a 346 page book. My second favorite in the series, the first being Always Watching.
The characters were by far the best part of this book. Katie was a very well-rounded and complex character. I empathized a lot with her various struggles and could really relate to her, which is the mark of a good character in my mind. Then, there's Daniel. The best character, hands down. Compassionate, honest, loyal, former military named Daniel? That's a pretty good mix if you want me to like a character. But amidst his awesomeness, he still had his struggles and issues, just like any normal human being. I loved his relationship with his niece. Who, speaking of which, was also a pretty great character.
The storyline was intense, action-packed, and just downright crazy, but amongst that, there was still room for some heartwarming scenes between characters or characters and their emotions. I love a book that has physical conflicts, (aka, action-packed crazyiness) as well as emotional and spiritual conflicts (aka, inner issues the character needs to deal with.) that need to be resolved. Adds so much more depth to the story. The romance was so sweet and not at all in-your-face, which I appreciated. It wasn't sudden, unexpected or unwelcome. Just sweet, slow, and natural feeling.
The main thing I was not a fan of, and the main reason I docked a star, was the storyline with Riley and her 'boyfriend'. It just felt rather wedged in, and unnecessary. Riley was more of a background character throughout much of the story, so it felt jarring to be suddenly thrown into her POV and to witness her issues and such. Honestly, you could have taken that storyline right out of the story, and it would have worked just as well - probably more so. Another thing I wasn't big on was the identity of the antagonist. It was unexpected (yes, that was kinda the point, but it didn't feel like a "good" kind of unexpected.) and the motive behind said antagonist didn't really make a ton of sense. I don't know. It just didn't feel right to me.
I loved the glimmerings into Quinn's and Maddy's characters that were given in this book, setting things up for book 3. Nice foreshadowing. And the ending was the best ever! So sweet! Katie and Daniel are one of the best couples!
All in all, I really enjoyed this book! If you are looking for a clean suspense\thriller, with a touch of romance, this would suit perfectly! I think I will be buying some paperback copies very soon! Recommended for ages 16+ for some pretty intense stuff, as well as mild romance.
I am a huge fan of Lynette Eason's books, I've read all of her Revell titles to date and all but nine of her Love Inspired Suspense titles. After really enjoying the first book in the series, Always Watching, earlier this year it is putting it mildly to say that I was eagerly anticipating the release of this second book! And I was most definitely not disappointed, this book was phenomenal! Katie was my favorite character in Always Watching so I was so excited to get to read her story, my heart broke for all that had happened in her past. Being a hands-on renovation/construction guru myself I loved that Katie had a passion renovating her house! Daniel was a fantastic hero, I loved his protectiveness, kindness, and determination, he was just an all around amazing man. I also loved the fact that he was a pilot and had his own plane, even though I myself am absolutely terrified of flying I always find it fascinating to read about characters that love to fly! I also loved Daniel's niece Riley, she was just such an awesome character, she reminded me a lot of myself at her age! One of my favorite things about Lynette's books is the suspense in them, and the suspense in this one was beyond amazing! I love to play detective when I read one of Lynette's books to see if I can figure out who the villain(s) is/are before it is revealed in the story and with this one I am delighted to say that I pegged one of the villains from the first time they entered the story (Love it when that happens!) but the identity of the other villain was a total shock to me, I did not see it coming! Everything combined to make this a story that I absolutely loved and hated to put down, this book has a permanent spot on my keeper shelf and will go down as one of my all time favorite books by Lynette! I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for book three!
I was honored to receive a free copy of this amazing book from the author and Revell publishers in exchange for helping to promote it!
Definitely not as good as the first book. I wouldn’t really recommend it to anyone. The story seemed very cliche and almost a repeat of the first book but with different characters. There was a lot more kissing in this book.
STORY | Katie Singleton’s personal and professional life is wrought with tragedy. But the one constant in her life is her work as a bodyguard at Elite Guardians. Her current client she happens upon quite by accident. Though he’s known for his string of popular gourmet restaurants, Daniel Matthews never expects to be the subject of a stalker. When Katie becomes involved in Daniel’s life after a suspected arsonist sets his restaurant ablaze, and the discovery of a body, Katie assists the former Marine in discovering who is behind this.
REVIEW | To begin this year, one of the best at-the-time books to release was Always Watching, the first novel in this series. Not only is it a wonderful read, it still has a place as a favorite read. To follow up its impressive feat is something of a challenge, but Katie and Daniel’s story does just this, and proves it too is a force to reckon with. There are many surprises and unexpected twists in this novel, both of the nail-biting variety and the diverse nature of the story. As I read Without Warning, the best surprise inside its pages was how fast-paced it is. There’s barely a moment given to Katie or Daniel to breath, and yet, throughout this race for identity, there are still some memorable moments.
In the rare “quiet” conversations between these two, some good building blocks begin to weave together. Their teasing, flirty banter counteracts the more serious nature of the story. In particular, there’s one sweet and swoon-y romantic moment that comes in the latter fourth of the novel. An interesting character angle is also the presence of Daniel’s niece Riley, a character I didn’t expect. Her addition to the story dynamic is wonderful. I love the interplay between her and Daniel; her presence brings out a sweet protective side to Daniel we’d have not otherwise seen.
“...her heart [overflowed] with love for the man who held her, for the God who gave them a beautiful new sunrise each morning, for... life.” - Lynette Eason
An Eason signature is the adrenaline rush that comes with every story she pens, and this one is no different. The pace clips through the story at breakneck speed weaving in and out of the whodunit type questions the prose ponders. Everything comes down to a simple fact. Lynette Eason trademarks the best in smart, “elite” and gripping romantic suspense. Without Warning is a wonderful novel, and is not a story you want to underestimate! There's brilliant writing that couples with a kick-butt heroine (plus a Marine hero!) who is as capable of rescuing as she is of being rescued (yes there is a difference and no, there is nothing wrong with either scenario).
Fans of authors like Ronie Kendig or Dani Pettery are sure to discover another must read inside the pages of Without Warning. So you’ve been warned: don’t miss it!
Five stars for suspense and interesting main characters.
Minus one-half star for being able to guess the villain(s) from the moment of meeting. If I'm going to guess that early on, I prefer Eason's books that are written more like thrillers than mysteries, with us knowing up front who the villain is and watching the protagonists get hunted (as in her Fatal Reunions series, which I loved). But in this one, a pretense of secrecy is there, and that got on my nerves a bit. It took out some of the suspense for me, since some of that suspense was built on the mystery instead of only the villain's goals and the hero and heroine's survival of them.
Minus one-half star for some instances of really choppy writing, sentences missing subjects or direct objects and thus becoming confused: "He held her tight, her fears valid." (pg 41) Was she afraid he was going to hold her, or what? Not according to the context, but the sentence really jarred. Also, numbers of run-on sentences caused by improper comma usage: "The man had called him at home, he must be getting desperate." (Pg. 56) I can swallow one or two, but having scrambled sentences or bum commas in each chapter got old after awhile.
Minus one-half star for word misuse. Seems like someone's editor was on vacation...I got a good chuckle out of "the scrolling marquis" because French noblemen really don't have the habit of applying themselves as text at the bottom of a tv screen...marquee is the proper word. (Debatably; it is a stretch to use it so...really, it's better to just say "the scrolling text at the bottom of the screen.") And the term spelled "if worse comes to worse" is actually expressed as either "worse comes to worst" (comparative superlative) or "worst comes to worst" (Old English saying). Finding word misuse in recent novels is really beginning to try my nerves; seems like the editors are letting spellcheck do too much of their checking for them. Argh.
Content: well, Riley was a great Christian influence. But I didn't feel that Daniel and Katie ever really laid a grasp on salvation; the
Wow wow wow - fast pace, page turning suspense sums this one up!
I loved this book. The suspense was great and had me reading whenever I could. I was so glad that my little boy had bad nights, because I could sit and read :-). The action was never ending and the action at the end kept me up till past my bedtime.
I guessed who it was early on, and also correctly guessed the person helping the culprit, but the mystery around the motive kept me guessing until it was revealed.
I loved Katie, Daniel and Riley. These characters is probably my favourite of the series. But I still have 2 books left so we will see. I loved how the interacted and related to each other. They are characters which in real life I would have loved spending time with.
Looking forward to getting to know Maddy and Haley.
Without Warning was an extremely action-packed suspense! Just when Katie Singleton and Daniel Matthews finished dealing with one threat to their lives, another one was upon them.
The romance was nicely woven into the story and believable in the way it developed. I liked these characters and thought that they both had interesting back stories that still emotionally impacted their daily lives. Riley, Daniel’s niece, was a great addition to the book and I enjoyed getting to know her. Without Warning was a good second novel for the Elite Guardians series.
I am now looking very forward to reading the third book in the series. The preview chapter at the end of Without Warning was really good and I am happy that the next installment will be about Maddy and Quinn.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The mark of a good suspense novel is that it keeps you turning pages, just *needing* to know what happens next. This was definitely the case with this book. Though I had my suspicions about 'who' fairly quickly, I didn't understand the 'why' until it was revealed, and there were plenty of moments of 'eek!' along the way. I found the faith element of this book to be a bit more subtle than in other Eason books, but ended up liking that it was mostly Riley, Daniel's 17 year old niece, whose perspective talked about faith. Some of her insights were wise beyond what we think a teenager might have, and I think it was a good reminder that the rising generation can have great faith, and many things to teach us.
After meeting Lynette Eason at the International Christian Retail Show and having the opportunity to interview her, I could not wait to read Without Warning. She gave us a little sneak peek into the book and totally had me hooked. I was not disappointed. I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.
I absolutely love the female bodyguard twist to this series. Such an engaging breakaway from the traditional alpha hero in rescue mode. There's something exhilarating about a tough-as-nails heroine with protection on her mind.
And I love that Daniel accepts Katie and her skills for what they are. That doesn't mean he stays on the sidelines -- he has an interesting background that makes him more than capable of standing up to danger. Together they make a fearsomely awesome team...though there was this one place where they did something that set me in panic mode. It was so ominously clear that the bad guy would take advantage and I tried to warn them but they ignored me. And was I right? Boy, was I right! They barely got out alive. Gah! I hate when the hero and heroine ignore a reader's sincere prompting.
The romantic tension is taut from early on. Charged moments punctuated by danger tease the reader's anticipation. And then there's all the sinister twists and turns and a bevy of alarmingly ingenuous attempts on Daniel's life. And, oh my goodness, there are a few scenes that gave me the collywobbles. (Isn't that a great word -- it means intensely anxious to the point of queasiness. LOL)
Another exceptionally enthralling read from this stellar romantic suspense author.
Oh -- and you don't need to read the first book in the Elite Guardians series -- Always Watching -- in order to enjoy this one. The books read really well as standalones though there are overlapping characters (the Elite Guardian team).
This is the second in the Elite Guardian series. The group of body guards include four women who have backgrounds in different areas of expertise. This makes for a well rounded agency that can cover a variety of issues that come up in situations that require protection for clients. Their abilities complement each other as they work together in the cases.
Kate Singleton is an expert in explosives. She is teaches a class on self defense and one of her students is Riley Matthews, a seventeen year old about to finish high school and head to college. Riley's parents were killed and she is now living with her uncle Daniel. Katie becomes involves in protecting Daniel when he appears to be a target of an unknown assailant after he finds a former employee hanging in the basement of one of his restaurants and another of his restaurants is set on fire at about the same time. Riley is concerned and hires Katie to watch over her uncle. Daniel is a former Marine and doesn't think he needs protection but allows it for himself and Riley.
This is an action packed suspense where one thing after another happens to keep the reader turning the pages. There is an attraction between Daniel and Katie that adds romance to the story. Both have issues and fears to overcome but as events evolve, they have to confront their issues and faith helps this happen. Riley is a very strong, faith filled young lady wise beyond her years and is a pleasure to read about as she keeps watch over her uncle.
Another Elite guardians mystery that had me pacing for the next clues! Welcome Katie to this incredible team of tough, no-fear, yet truly imperfect ladies. Lynette had a well paced suspense throughout the plot which picked up in the intensity towards the end. I enjoyed the character arc in Katie and watching how, with the help of Daniel, she was able to grow in her relationships as well as from her past and dealing with PST. I am so happy I read this before Remembrance Day... a time to reflect on how important our soldiers are! And poor Quinn. That is all I am saying there...
Thankfully, there is more to come with this series and I am so glad to see cameos of a few different Elite Gaurdian crew members developing. Seriously looking forward to MOVING TARGET in 2017!!!
Christian Adult Mystery/Romantic Suspense Fiction Novel. I was given this book by Revell in exchange for my honest review. 17+
Lynette Eason is one of my favorite romantic suspense writers. She knows what the genre readers desire and delivers without hesitation. From the first chapter, Eason does a good job at inviting me into the suspense and doesn't let go until the end of the novel. Without Warning is no expectation.
I enjoy how Eason drew me into the writing. First, the setting is a typical American neighborhood where everyone pay attention when something happens or they are completely ignoring what happens around them. Eason's quick writing with the right amount of dialogue and prose throws me into the action right away, inviting me into the action.
Speaking of the action, Without Warning begins with a dead body hanging from the pipes in a restaurant's basement and keeps moving throughout the whole book. I really didn't want to put the book down. It was original and completely unpredictable. Yes, I have read TONS of romantic suspense novels and usually have majority of them figured out before the end of the novel, but Eason does a good job at keeping me quessing.
With the characters of Katie and Daniel, I enjoyed getting to know them better. Katie was introduced in the first book Always Watching, and I couldn't wait to see her in her own story. By moving through the women who make up this bodyguard position from the Elite Guardians Agency, I get to observe how each one of their personal struggles. Eason has done her research on what it takes to diffuse a bomb and throws Katie into a situation to face her worst fears. As for Daniel, he is an admirable hero who has taken in his teenage niece and is a great boss to his employees because he isn't afraid to work right alongside them. As for the romance, it was a little too fast for me. Daniel and Katie weren't together that long, and they were already feeling emotions for each other. I didn't like that.
Always thrilling, Lynette Eason has created another hit out of the park with her next installment in her Elite Guardians series Without Warning. With non-stop action and characters that are deepened, I really can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of Without Warning from Revell Publishing and the opinions stated are all my own.
Lynette Eason, one of today's top Romantic Suspense writers, has created a unique group of bodyguards. Elite Guardians Agency is staffed by females and they are quite capable of keeping you safe. They come from various backgrounds and each has a distinct history and can bring different skills to the Agency. I enjoyed the fact that while good at their jobs all of the women show an all too human side. The characters are well developed and the plot is fast moving. This is book two and although I did not read the first book, I had no trouble enjoying this book. It can definitely be read as a stand alone novel.
From Amazon: Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency, stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident. Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate, only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business.
Daniel might be concerned, but he's not convinced that a bodyguard--and a female one at that--is necessary. A new attack and his niece's urgings are enough to make him reconsider. He and Katie must figure out who's behind the intimidation and threats--before a would-be killer strikes again.
Witty dialogue and a simmering attraction will have readers flying through this tension-laced thriller. Eason exercises complete control of her readers' emotions as they race through the pages to discover the truth.
About the author from Amazon blurb: Lynette Eason is the bestselling author of the Women of Justice series, the Deadly Reunions series, and the Hidden Identity series, as well as Always Watching in the Elite Guardians series. She is the winner of an ACFW Carol Award, the Selah Award, and the Inspirational Readers' Choice Award. She has a master's degree in education from Converse College and she lives in South Carolina. I was given this book by NetGalley.com for review purposes. All thoughts are my own.
A grisly discovery is made in the basement of a popular downtown restaurant, the owner of the restaurant almost immediately begins to experience further threats against his life and livelihood, and Daniel Matthews hardly appears the type to sabotage anything. It all adds up to a dangerous killer being on the loose, convincing Daniel to hire a private bodyguard service to protect himself and his niece.
Katie Singleton, an Elite Guardian Agency partner, is already a casual acquaintance of Daniel Matthews; his teen niece, Riley, has been enrolled in Katie's self defense courses. Arriving on the scene of the first incident, Katie is immediately concerned about who might want to destroy Daniel Matthews' reputation, along with his myriad of successful businesses. Daniel happens to be highly trained ex-military, so after hiring the Elite Guardians, Daniel becomes more of a partner than a client. Somewhere along the way, the time that Daniel and Katie spend together investigating this case, hints of a much longer partnership between in the future.
"Without Warning" was just as high-energy, suspense-filled, and deftly plotted as all of Lynette Eason's novels, but there was a nice personal touch to this one that made it one of my favorites.
What I Loved... I am a big fan of kick-butt women and heroines! Like, Wonder Woman in the recent blockbuster Batman Vs SuperMan Movie was the star in my opinion. Although Superman is nice to look at.
I love reading about the Elite Guardians. Katie was a fun heroine to read. Gun toting, intelligent, ready, willing and able to do what she needs to in a "man's world" yet still womanly and human.
Eason made Katie's character real and flawed yet strong and determined making me want to root for her all the more.
What I Liked... I don't often read suspense novels because I need more angst and swoon worthy bits of romance in my novels, but the angst from the suspense helped curb my craving a little. It was a maze of a story providing the reader lots of options for the villain's identity. It can definitely keep one guessing.
Other... The cover is kick-butt just like the heroine.
I did guess pretty early on "Who Dunnit" which was a little disappointing. But I still think it's worth the read and I loook forward to reading more in the Elite Guardian series.
Disclaimer: This book was provided by the publisher through Revell Book Publishers. The opinion of this book, is my own and I was not paid or compensated for for my review.
For me, this was a bit of a disappointing read. Halfway through the book, the suspense angle was blown for me, and I didn't find the book all that suspenseful of a read in the first place! I didn't really see any chemistry between the hero and heroine, so the love declarations were a bit unbelievable. Even the faith aspect was sorely lacking in this story, as it didn't seem like the hero had changed much and there wasn't much in the way of opportunity for faith building in the first place. It was a good change of pace for what I was in the middle of, as well as a mildly entertaining read, but it was just a middle of the road book, which was disappointing after what I loved about the Women of Justice series from the author.
Action-packed and suspenseful, with complex characters, a plot that hooked me from the start and kept me interested. The first book I've read by this author, but definitely not the last. Dealt with questions of faith, like how can a good God allow bad things to happen, and issues like PTSD. Recommend to anyone who enjoys suspense, with mystery, faith and a little romance. Part of a series, but easily reads as a standalone.
(Book provided by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.)
Without Warning starts with a rush and never lets up. It takes readers on a ride as they watch Katie Singleton try to keep Daniel Matthews and his niece alive. Some one has targeted Daniel and his restaurants, but who is unclear. What is clear is that the intent is to destroy Daniel's businesses and ultimately take his life. The pages turned fast and furious as Katie and her team of Elite Guardians try to stay one step ahead of and finally trap Daniel's nemesis. Filled with sweet romance and tension, this book is landing on my keeper shelf.
Although this book's characters didn't grip me like characters from other books by Eason, I did enjoy it. The plot was fast, and there was so much action. So much. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn't quit reading. I had to find out what happened next. Although this is book two in a series, I had no problems reading it without reading book one as well.
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my review. My thoughts are my own.
4.5 Stars only because of the predictability factor in this one as well. Otherwise I have no other complaints. I think Daniel, Riley, & Katie are my new favorite characters. I liked them even better than Wade & Olivia in the last book. I liked Riley for her faith & sassines, Daniel for his...well...everything, & Katie for her bravery. Looking forward to book #3! 😊
