Joshua and the Arrow Realm

Rate this book
Joshua never thought he'd return to the world of Nostos so soon. But, when King Apollo needs his help in the Arrow Realm, Joshua's will and powers will be tested in order to save him.

With his loyalties divided between our world and theirs, Joshua wonders whether he alone can restore magic to the twelve powerless Olympian heirs, or whether he is being tricked into making the one mistake that might cost them all.

JOSHUA AND THE ARROW REALM is the exciting follow up to JOSHUA THE LIGHTNING ROAD which the Midwest Book Review called, "a heart-pounding thrill ride."

Joshua is fetched back to Nostos to rescue his friend, Sam, now King Apollo. He has been kidnapped by Queen Artemis, and their world is threatened. Leandro might be in danger as well. Only when Joshua arrives, all is turmoil and the Leandro who once called him friend, treats him as the enemy. Betrayal starts from the moment Joshua arrives until he battles Hekate to save his life, comes face-to-face with his own destiny, and struggles to save Bo Chez, his grandfather--The Storm Master.

Galanti has created another fast-paced, intricate tale that weaves together newly created myths with ancient ones and populates the world of Nostos with Greek gods and characters and monsters to thrill and chill the reader.

This is wonderful adventure-fantasy from start to finish, but there's more to come. In the next tale, I have the feeling The Oracle will be up against the greatest of the Greek gods, Zeus himself.

I enjoyed this second book almost more than the first one. It had some fantastic characters: Ash and her Wild Childs, Agri and Charlie, Joshua's earthly companion. I received an ARC in exchanged for an honest review, and this is my honest review.

After having thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Joshua and the Lightning Road, I held my breath as I started reading this second book in the series. You just never know if you’ll enjoy it as much as the first one, if what you want to happen will happen, or whether it evokes the same emotions.

My worries were unfounded. This is every bit as good as the first book. Maybe even better, as I was already familiar with many of the character’s and this author’s world.

The action is all over the place, the character’s as engaging as ever, and adventure, danger, and intrigue abound.

Joshua is an amazing boy. He’s not fearless and that’s where his bravery and loyalty to his friends shines.

A spectacular next chapter in Joshua’s story. I’ll be watching for more.

This book is intended for a younger, middle grade audience. Don’t let that stop you mature readers from reading it and going back to your younger days, when all seemed possible and magical.

I received this book for my honest review.

I loved the first book in the series, Joshua and the Lightning Road and was very excited to get my hands on Book II, Joshua and the Arrow Realm. These magical children’s books are highly entertaining for all ages.

Twelve year old Joshua and his friend Charlie were having a great time sledding…until the Lightning Road brought the Mystery Girl. Who is she and what does she want?

Joshua and Charlie are not ordinary kids. They are older than their years and have traveled to magical realms, battling evil. Joshua is able to talk to animals. Nifty talent to have that comes in very handy.

Now…they are off on another adventure, taking the Lightning Road back to Nostos to save their friend, Sam, the King.

They will travel through trees that come alive and could stomp you into a pancake, battle birdzilla with razor sharp claws, cadmean beasts with red eyes, and fire breathing foxes.

They eat some odd food…dried squirrel mash and ache cakes…MMM, yummy.

Magical lands and fantastic characters, myths and legends, the Gods and Olympians, the Oracle and Joshua. Is he the one to make things right? Others believe it is so.

I am excited to be back in Donna Galanti’s magical world of adventure, friendship and loyalty. The main characters stand tall as they race through the pages proving time and again that together they can accomplish what seems impossible.

I received an ARC of Joshua and the Arrow Realm from Donna Galanti in return for an honest review.

Joshua and the Arrow Realm - by Donna Galanti

I received this book free to read for a review for chapter by chapter book tours.
After only a couple of pages in, I realised that this book is a sequel. Even though I hadn’t read the first book I was happily surprised to find that it isn’t needed. This book drops enough snippets of Joshua’s previous adventure that you get the gist of what happened. However, after finishing the story I now want to read the first one and I’m looking forward to the third one, which I can only assume is being manifested as I type.

It’s a middle grade story, perfectly written for ages 8-12.

This book is an adventure from start to finish.
I truly enjoyed this book.
This book I feel is for all ages. Makes you feel like your in this adventure with Joshua and his friends.
When Joshua and his friend Charlie get called back to help their friend the young king Apollo they realize it's going to be a lot harder this time. Stakes are high when a friend becomes foe. And the Queen has changed sides. Joshua and Charlie meet friends in the most unexpected places. Ash a wild child gives aid with other children.
Can Joshua and Charlie save their world and the arrow realm? Chances are slim....
Pick this book up and have a fun adventure.

There is no: I liked book 1 or 2 more. The story continues, adding more, yay, and at the same time, it's episodic. In book one, Joshua and his friends help Sam to find his rightful place, Hekate is a vicious villain, and the adventure unveils a lot of past stories revealing Joshua and other characters' origins and goals.

Then we jump right into action again, just like book one, with a call for help, and Joshua's friends won't let him go alone to a new world.

Joshua is a loyal, credulous friend who easily gives others a chance to be loyal. There are lots of plot twists, betrayals, and some betrayals are the result of a deception. It's quite emotional at the end. This volume brings back villains, allies, and certainties of a chosen one's path.
Both volumes are strong, but the second introduces Ash, a fantastic character.

The world-building is cool. Zeus disbands his Gods and each one becomes the ruler of a world, but not all (or their descendants) rule right.
The end gives us a hint that there are more secrets to unveil and a final boss fight ahead.

OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES Stay away from the window, don’t go outside when it’s storming and whatever you do, do not touch the orb. Twelve-year-old Joshua Cooper’s grandpa has always warned him about the dangers of lightning. But Joshua never put much stock in his grandpa’s rumblings as anything more than the ravings of an old man with a vast imagination. Then one night, when Joshua and his best friend are home alone during a frightful storm, Joshua learns his grandpa was right. A bolt of lightning strikes his house and whisks away his best friend—possibly forever. To get him back, Joshua must travel the Lightning Road to a dark place that steals children for energy. But getting back home and saving his friend won’t be easy, as Joshua must face the terrifying Child Collector and fend off ferocious and unnatural beasts intent on destroying him. In this world, Joshua possesses powers he never knew he had, and soon, Joshua’s mission becomes more than a search for his friend. He means to send all the stolen children home—and doing so becomes the battle of his life.

Donna wanted to be a writer ever since she wrote a murder mystery screenplay at seven and acted it out with the neighborhood kids. She attended an English school housed in a magical castle, where her wild imagination was held back only by her itchy uniform (bowler hat and tie included!). There she fell in love with the worlds of C.S. Lewis and Roald Dahl, and wrote her first fantasy about Dodo birds, wizards, and a flying ship (and has been writing fantasy ever since).
She’s lived in other exotic locations, including her family-owned campground in New Hampshire and in Hawaii where she served as a U.S. Navy photographer. She now lives with her family and two crazy cats in an old farmhouse and dreams of returning one day to a castle.

I really love this book, it was nonstop action from the beginning to the very end. I thought book one was great but book two blew it out of the water.
I really can't wait to read book three to see what adventure is next for Joshua, Charlie, Sam, etc.
I really loved Joshua more in this book then in book 1, and really think he grew up a lot in this book, and I really felt bad in certain parts for him. I can't wait to see how he handles everything that he went through in this book.
Its one of my favorite books this year, and I think this is a great series to read as a family.

This was even better than the first book.

Joshua is brought back to Nostos to save Apollo from Artemis who has been taken over by Hekate. It's an adventure for sure!

This book will appeal to middle grade fantasy lovers.

Joshua and his friend, Charlie, are having a great time sledding when an unexpected visitor shows up. She's from the “other realm” and tells Joshua that Leandro sent her, and that he must come back with her to save Apollo. Although they aren’t sure what to do, Joshua and Charlie end up being transported back to the Lightning Road. It’s been awhile since they were last there and now they have a new task at hand. Artemis has their good friend, Apollo, locked in a cell. When they try to break him out things take a turn for the worse. Now Charlie and Joshua have no idea who to trust and how to get back home. There are dangers everywhere and people are not free to go about their lives. Artemis is ruling and she's dead set on getting powers from the oracle, who she believes is Joshua. Will he prove to be the oracle? Is there a way to save the slaves and humans trapped in this realm? How will Joshua know who to trust and what to do? This book is filled with action and adventure, so you'll be turning those pages.

I was excited to read Joshua and the Arrow Realm after reading the first book in the series, Joshua and the Lightning Road a couple years ago. I like that this was a continuation of an exciting story, but that it could also be enjoyed on its own. Charlie is a fun character. I loved his French phrases and nicknames for others. Joshua is growing up and it was nice to see him feeling more confident, even if he doesn't always realize it. I like the new characters that were introduced, and I hope to meet up with some of them again in the next book. The other realm has a lot of interesting parts to it, and seeing the way the gods and goddesses act is fascinating. This is a great book for kids in 4th grade and up who love mythology and stories with lots of action. I read this in one day, so it's full of page turning adventures- but there are sad parts too. I know there will be more for Joshua to do, and I look forward to the next book in the series.
