Review originally posted in Abby's Shelves: https://goo.gl/AjLSoS Infallible by Bailey Quinn is my first try with romance crime novel, frankly, I wasn’t sure with this combination but was excited at the same time to see how it turns out and this is book surprised me, action, suspenseful, realistic, I just loved it.
Detective Scarlet Anne Martins, an investigator working with the NYPD until being charged for terrorism which she must uncover evidence so as to put those who had set her up behind bars. Detective Martins is not in a position to trust anyone, not even Agent Blade, FBI who appears as a guardian.
The story line is fast-paced and action packed with lots of surprises twists keeping you glued to the story. Scarlet is a fugitive in a foreign country, needs to prove her innocence by uncovering evidence avoiding capture by the police or the criminals without official support against a fast ticking clock takes this story-line to another level. I enjoyed the protagonist’s relationship, a tenuous affair for the most part of the story but may be less enjoyed for those who are in search for more “steaminess”.
Overall, this is a great read, a perfect balance of romance & crime genre with a fast-paced, action-packed and realistic story line with lots of surprises and twists. I really wish there will a second book. Highly recommend especially for late teens and early twenties readers.

There are plenty of surprises, twists, and many turns in this high paced read! Loved it! I'm hoping there will be a book two!
As a cop you need to be on your A game. But what happens when your heart is leading the way....but you're trying not to get killed? Read this amazing book and find out, you won't regret it!

This book is about Scarlet a super cop who works for NYPD and from South Africa, like our esteemed author, who is trying to save Alaric the FBI agent who she loves but pretends to hate and to find out who is framing her and put them away. I love Scarlet and Alaric their dynamic is great. It has some twists. This was a great book that I'll definitely read again
Not what I was expecting…not at all…I thought I would be reading a completely different type of book…one that was more along the lines of a crime investigation with a strong female character on or leading the team. Instead I felt as if I had stepped into a science fiction other-world story set in some other New York than exists today. A cross between an illustrated novel and something I can’t define. Not bad, just not what I was expecting.
The story was fast paced and action-packed. Scarlet and Alaric struck sparks off one another from their first encounter. I kind of feel the readership for this book might be late teens to early twenties. I also felt this was more fantasy than a crime novel.
The prologue misled me. After reading it I found myself reading what happened BEFORE the prologue, the prologue appeared again and then the story continued. I was confused at times, wanted more character development of Scarlet’s team, was surprised by the instant intense attraction between the two main characters and felt there should have been more to the story. Perhaps if this is the first book in a series these questions I have will be fleshed out in future books. If so I would like to know more about Alaric and his family, hear what Scarlet’s backstory is, and have the New York corruption issues exposed and dealt with. That said…it seems the two, if they stay together, may be moving somewhere else to live and work.
Thank you to NetGalley and Fire Quill Publishing for the copy to read in exchange for my honest review.
Scarlet Anne Martins, a South African, is a detective in New York City. Working with her team, Meyers and Carver, Martins has a new case. Figure out why Bane, a hardened criminal escaped from prison two days before his release. But there is a problem. FBI Alaric Blade, who captured Bane seven years ago, wants to work with the detectives. There is a problem. Blade has been working at a desk for the last five years. Martins is adamant that Blade serve as a consultant only because she feels he will be rusty in his skills, but is overruled by her Captain. She is stuck with him. Going to a bar to talk to an informant, the detectives discover a bomb, which goes off, injuring Meyers, Martins and killing the informant. While in the hospital, Internal Affairs comes to interview Martins, questioning her involvement in Bane escaping from prison. Was she involved? Why did Agent Blade show up? Where is Bane? Find the answers to these questions and more by reading the book.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The life of a cop is difficult, but even more so when the cop is a beautiful woman. Seems no one takes her seriously...her fellow police officers or the perps that she faces. But make no mistake, Detective Martins is a different breed of cop. When she is partnered with an equally attractive FBI Agent Blade, sparks begin to fly...literally. They continuously butt heads over how to handle the case of serial killer Bane. Then things just blow up in their faces.
I LOVED this book, especially the interplay between Martins and Blade. The PUSH-PULL of their relationship really carried the action throughout. I would have given it 6 stars if possible.

Book Infallible Author Carlye Labuschagne Omg I absolutely love detective stories. I put this right there with Mr P himself!!! This was so well written and it had all the action and twist and turns one could hope for. I did not put this book down. The characters where incredible. I loved Scarlet who comes from South Africa and ends up in the Big Apple. Of course she has a rather hot partner Mr Blade who she secretly crushes on. Will it pan out. This book is kinda two mysteries in one book!
If you like non stop action and suspense, this is the book for you. With every answer comes a whole new set of questions and every time you think you know the answer a new twist leaves you in the dark again. This is a great, action packed, read and a definite must. Scarlet is a woman with a lot of scars, but also with a lot of heart and a lot of guts. Alaric is a protector with a few emotional scars of his own. Together they are magic and give this book just the right amount of romance.

Infallible was a great book with tons of action and suspense. Scarlet is a detective from South Africa who goes to work at the NYPD. She is assigned to work with Agent Blade. She secretly has feelings for him but pretends she doesn't like him. they are working on a case that isn't easy to solve. They have a relationship filled with twists and turns, surprises, and some pretty steamy chemistry.

This was a nicely written book following the adventures of the south African, now NYPD, detective Scarlet. The story gets really interesting after the first quarter or so. It has a good mix of suspense and intrigue.

This is my first read from this author. The characters and story line were nice and the pace of the story was fast enough to keep it going but not so fast I got lost. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more.
I loved this book. Scarlet is a phenomenally written character. I loved the story. This is a little different from what I normally read so I was not sure at first, but as soon as I started reading, I was hooked!
Great story!!

Before I go into the review of this book I would first like to disclose a few things. I was not supposed to like this book. I agreed to post a fair review in exchange for a copy, but was not sure if it would even be posted on this blog (rather than just on Amazon and such). Being a romance crime novel, I had thought that it would truly not be my cup of tea, no matter how well written. I was entirely wrong. I LOVE this book. Hopefully their story will continue? Well then, let's plunge right in then!
Detective Scarlet Anne Martins, originally from South Africa, works as an investigator for the NYPD. That is, she did until her entire world is torn apart in a series of events. Conspiracy abounds, and Martins is left unable to be certain of who she can trust. Not even the disturbingly handsome and talented Alaric Blade, who at every instance appears to be her guardian angel. But is she just being maneuvered by him? This question becomes even more dangerous, as she finds herself becoming less able to resist his charms the longer she is around him. Being framed for crimes of terrorism, Martins must uncover the evidence which will bury the dirt-bags who set her up. She must do so, while avoiding capture by the police or the criminals, without resources, and before every trace of evidence evaporates. Will she get a step ahead of the game before it is too late?
What I liked about this book
Realistic Romantic Development The main protagonists certainly do not have love at first sight. Martins started out as viewing Alaric as an overdressed, arrogant, Special Agent which had been thrust upon her investigation. Their transition from this initial contact was not easy or convenient. In fact, their relationship was a rather tenuous affair for most of the story. For those who want a story with gratuitous amounts of steaminess, this is not your book. I however, found their doubts and inconvenient circumstances to be refreshing. I don't imagine that many romance stories will delve into this aspect of relationships, but the uncertainty and unsatisfied longing made the lives of these two tangible, potent, and more realistic.
Action, Suspense, and Plot Twists It never seems to slow down. Even when Martins and Alaric are not in imminent danger, the narrative directs attention to the torrent of their minds. Like the romantic development, the action was realistic, as nobody was some sort of rare human weapon. The constant flow of events and action kept the ball rolling smoothly. The plot was like a mythical hydra. With every answered question, came more questions.
Locales and Sensory Details Like many other “cat and mouse” stories, Infallible follows our heroes around various settings. The diverse landscape of the East Coast is used effectively to provide new challenges as the environment changes. Quinn spared no important environmental details and sensory clues. In many instances, I found myself immersed in their world; feeling every jarring bump in the road, the biting cold of a Pennsylvania winter, and the stark terror of an armed standoff.
What I didn't like about this book
Prologue Do not read it. I have heard more than a few people say that they do not read prologues. I would suppose the common sentiment, is that prologues delay the start of stories and can create confusion instead of questions. In this instance the latter accusasion is especially true. There were times where I had re-read a paragraph serveral times just to get the pronouns sorted out. While this may be a failing on my part as a reader, I still belive that certain things should definitely not be displayed out of context.
Technical Details While I try to not to look too deeply into the accuracy of technical details in a story, there are some instances where the error is provacative to the point of distracting. To be entirely fair, many of the technical errors I found would be overlooked by most readers, as specific training or education would be needed to spot them. There are two exceptions of “I'm just being obessive,” and merit mention:
(1) References of position and movement within a complex building. When a character's movent has enough details, I not only visualize it, but also see the spatial orentation. That is, my mind keeps track of where they are, and how they got there. In one scene, there was some ambiguity of how the prison facility was laid out. I lost my inertia as I tried to figure it out. I would either suggest vague descriptions, or a detailed model to serve as a reference. (2) Continuity of characters present within a scene. Much like visualizing the layout of a building, I also see the positioning of people within it. In the prison scene, I had to go back and start counting people up. More detail should be given to explaining arrivals, departures, and encounters of characters.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.

I found this book confusing to begin with but I am really pleased I continued reading. It is action packed from the start and filled with great characters. Lots of twists and turns with a surprise ending. Scarlet and Alaric are a great double act and I hope there is a follow up. Thank you Net Galley for my copy.
*I won an ARC copy, but read it because I wanted to, and it was awesome*
Under her new pen name Bailey Quinn, Carlyle Labuschagne, introduces her badass, soft-hearted heroine Scarlet. She is smart and sassy and above using her womanly wiles in the male dominated police force. She is endearingly South African in fast paced New York City, and proves over and over again that she has what it takes to make it as a detective. Then enters Alaric, a fellow agent who is far too handsome for his own good, and Scarlet finds herself falling for him, when she isn't even sure she can trust him.
Together they have to get to the bottom of the case, if either of them is going to survive.
There's lots to love about Scarlet and Alaric and watching their palpable chemistry play out and develop kept the pages turning. The plot is seasoned some great action and references to old apartheid crimes, which gave the story another dimension of depth.
I like a good thriller/suspense story, and was really looking forward to this one, but something just didn't work for me. I found myself not feeling bothered about whether or not I picked the book back up, and as I promised myself that this year that I wouldn't force myself to carry on with books that I wasn't enjoying because it wasn't fair to me or the author, I decided that I needed to put this one down.
I think for me the prose was a little too descriptive, there was no tension building in the plot for me, and I also didn't find myself coming to lllike the characters in the first part, and that is probably what meant that I didn't enjoy it so much. But I would like to point out that that is very much personal taste, and others may find the book highly enjoyable for the same moments that just didn't work for me!
infallible by Bailey Quinn is a mystery and thriller and general fiction read. THE MOMENT DETECTIVE SCARLET ANNE MARTINS stepped into that prison, her resolve began to wane, a struggle she had long forgotten between heart and head. Unable to deny it any longer, the feelings she had for Alaric were strong—and her desperation to save him, would ultimately be what would killed them both. For a super cop, her judgment in men truly failed her. But while her life, and anyone's who tried to stop her was in mortal danger, she had to forget every single detail about Special Agent Blade. Her primary focus was getting through the next twenty-four hours without killing anyone. fantastic read with fantastic characters. loved scarlet. she was my favourite character. I liked alaric too. 5*. highly recommended. I voluntary reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley
Our heroine is a consultant for the FBI trying to catch a serial killer. Our hero is the partner she doesn't want.
This book fits my ideal of a romantic suspense novel. The action is fast paced and realistic with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat for the entire ride. During this ride, our couple starts out reluctantly working together, grow to respective each other and then develop romantic interests, all in a realistic fashion. This was a true page-turner and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Highly recommended.
