A practical guide through changing times in a living relationship with one's fullest purpose, using cards and book. It guides to the spiritual healing of yourself so that the greening of the New Earth will naturally follow.
This book is Volume II, with Volume I being the cards that go with the book, the Gaia matrix Oracle deck. The cards include a short booklet, but the book is much more comprehensive and really necessary to appreciate and understand the cards.
I have to say that this work is nothing short of a masterpiece. Artistically and in terms of the depth of exploration of the symbols, it's quite remarkable. I've used the cards for a decade and have found them to be very interesting. The deck of cards is divided into two actual sets, the arcana cards and the cards that cover all the individual symbols. Each arcana card has four symbols associated with it and they are discussed individually in addition to the descriptions of each of the arcana cards.
The book discusses the possible card layouts that can be used and their meanings, the individual arcana cards and symbol cards that are reversible and therefore each cover two symbols. I think that gaining familiarity with Tarot cards is a good idea before tackling this system, as it is complex and involved and requires a lot of thought. But this should not discourage anyone from approaching it, as it is a fascinating and worthwhile book and divination system to use. However it is not used to divine the future so much as to go deeper into one's present situation.
There's an underlying philosophy behind the book regarding the evolutionary progression of society. New Earth is contrasted with Old Earth, with the spiritual development of society being predicted as occurring in the future. Old models will be shed and enlightened attitudes will replace patriarchal and hierarchical models of social organization. The person reading the cards is challenged to see that the challenges they face are part of the cosmic dance of evolution that society is currently undergoing.
The cards are very esoteric in their focus, drawing on a number of traditions, from Buddhism to grail mythology. Some of the symbols relating to the cards can be rather abstract and difficult to relate to personal experiences, but the arcana cards' descriptions in the book go into great detail and offer a number of possible vantage points on whatever problem you're facing.
The Old Earth and New Earth Cards actually combine arcana cards and are rather broad in their meaning. They can be a bit difficult to apply to personal problems, but if you put the time and effort into going through the meanings of the arcana cards they include, the overall meaning can be gleaned.
Common themes in the arcana are self-sacrifice, spiritual journey, pathworking, trickster mind, self-purification, trust, faith, centering, grounding, facing death and developing compassion. The cards also address feminine self-image and spiritualize the feminine aspect of being, but don't deny male spirituality.
The system is truly a marvel and I'm always struck at how detailed and intricate it is. I've found the cards to be the most helpful with spiritual problems. Readings are rarely simple or easy and require reading the card description and meditating on the issue at hand as well as sometimes delving into the meanings of the individual symbols.
I highly recommend this book and feel that it offers the reader a very rich and interesting experience. Furthermore, it draws strongly on grail mythology, which adds an interesting dimension to it. For anyone seeking an in-depth and esoteric system that goes beyond the reach of the Tarot, I would highly recommend this book and the associated deck of cards.
