I spent most of my life a disappointment, unwanted, and unloved. That is how I knew life to be until a low whistle pulled everything I knew upside down and inside out.
Chamberlain Lawrence was a man any woman would dream of. He was kind, sweet, and saw me for something no one else had ever seen before. Or so I thought. I fell for him hard and fast. I thought what we had was real and could last a lifetime. I thought what we had was a type of fighting love, one of such love we would last forever.
I should have paid closer attention to the signs around me. Chamberlain was too handsome, too charming, and too perfect to ever really want something like forever with a girl like me. Just as fast as I feel for him, I burned up faster. I'm left alone in life again with a broken heart, but a strong will to survive on my own.
Brooke lives in North Central Wyoming with her husband she affectionately refers to as the warden, their two wild and crazy boys, and her yellow lab, Timber. When she doesn't have her nose in a good story, Brooke enjoys spending as much time as she can outside. Walking around town, fishing, hunting, hiking, and messing around the mountains, Brooke loves the great outdoors which shows up quite a bit in her works. Brooke has been writing and telling stories since she was old enough to get someone to sit and listen to her, mainly being her best friend. She started off posting fanfictions and then decided to publish when she was on maternity leave with her youngest. A year later My Cowboy came out. Brooke doesn't just write one type of romances, but loves to explore as many as her mind can come up with. Her hobbies outside of reading are landscape photography, drawing, and just being outside where she can get dirty.
K.C never thought she would see Chamberlain Lawrence again, the man known as The Predator when he is in the ring. Seeing him again is a punch to the gut and it has K.C. remembering the past and how they got to where they are now.
K.C. had her life planned out, not a life she wanted but was expected of her and she hated it. She had a plan to find her own path away from her wealthy political family. Pressure mounts though as she finds herself falling hard for the wrong man, Chamberlain, at least the wrong man in the eyes of her parents. She is ready to give everything up for Chamberlain but is he willing to do the same?
Riveting. I was not sure quite what to expect with this one, but it exceeded my expectations. I felt for K.C. she had such a rigid grin and bear it life and to see her blossom into herself was wonderful. I am so anxious to read the next book, can't wait.
Wow......this book!!! This story was one roller-coaster of a ride of emotions. I am thinking to myself, why have I not discovered this book earlier. The Predator is book 1 in The Predator series and the author did a great job of bringing two different characters together from different paths of life. Absolute intensity between Chamberlain and K.C....their passion and love for each other is truly undeniable. With self doubt, greed, control, two different family lifestyles and upbringing, you never expect Chamberlain and K.C. to want each other with their every being but they do. This story.....wow..I am already anticipating into diving into the second book as soon as possible...I have to know...
Chamberlain has his eye on the prize, wanting to make it big in the fighting world..never expecting to meet K.C. in a chance encounter. K.C. has her life totally controlled by her parents, whom are high in society, from whom she has to marry to how she dresses and presents herself. K.C. has never had any choices on her own...but the fire that burns when she meets Chamberlain, gives her confidence on what she wants. As their passion and intensity builds for one another....so does the lies, deceit and secrets that no one wants them together, between K.C.s parents to Chamberlain's crew of ladies whom follow him to all of his fights.
When lines blur and a heartbreaking view as K.C. feels betrayal at the core, will K.C. and Chamberlain be able to overcome...or will the family of K.C. have anything to say about it with utter disappointment...
Definitely read and find out...this story is FANTASTIC!!
I read this book in less than 24 hours, just WOW. I completely fell in love with this story, with K.C and Chamberlain. K.C has led a sheltered life, one which has been completely mapped out for her, down to her career, wedding date and honeymoon destination. She must always do what it for the good of the family, even though that never sat right with her and her free spirited way. A chance encounter at the centre where she teaches ballet however, turns her world upside down. Another Gym is closed for refurbishment so Chamberlain needs somewhere new to train, but he is instantly drawn to K.C and the immediate chemistry is overwhelming. They are from different worlds and they will need to break down the preconceptions. K.C's naivety is sweet and endearing and Chamberlains doting is perfect, not over the top and with just the right amount of alpha. Things are rocky at times, K.C's family disapprove (obviously) and there are the groupie sluts who attempt to undermine. And then there is Gwen, can K.C really believe that she and Chamberlain are just lifelong friends? Told mainly in the form of flashback, I was always trying to guess what was coming next but nothing prepared me for that cliffhanger ending! I am so happy that part 2 is coming out later this month - I don't think I could wait much longer!!
This book!!!! I couldn't put it down! I love love love it! It's so well written and I feel like I was right there with Katie and Chamberlain and I can't wait to find out what happened, or didn't happen, to Gwen! Grrrr!! It's so nice to see Katie stand up for herself yet have these close relationships and teaching little girls, very refreshing! Chamberlain didn't get his head out of his ass fast enough and Scott? Everyone needs a Scott!! This book gave me the feels and I'm SO glad I have the second one to dive in to because I'd probably go crazy waiting for it, with my emotions as raw as they are! It's hard to find books like this these days and I'm glad I've found one!! Get this book! You won't be disappointed!!!
Well, what a story this turned out to be! And now I can't wait to start the second book! KC is unwanted and unloved by her family and with no friends either, other than a lovely lady who works for her parents. Her father is in politics and her whole life has been mapped out by him and her mother. Until she meets "The Predator", Chamberlain Lawrence. Then, KC discovers what life should be like outside of her rich, icy life. Beset on all fronts, KC discovers her inner strength and takes control of her life. But will her decisions be good or bad???
Five years ago, I read a book that I fell in love with called Back in the Ring by Brooke May only to find it was the fourth book in The Predator Series. It has taken me all this time to go back to the beginning to where it all began. The Predator is a series of intensely intertwined complex threads woven into a heartbreaking story. Chamberlain is an MMA fighter from the wrong side of the tracks but on his way to becoming something. KC has it all but the one thing she truly wants. Together they could be wonderful, but nothing was ever that easy. Brookes writing skills evokes such strong emotions that will break your heart but will also make you smile at times. Sexy, steamy and sizzling is the added bonus. I was disappointed it ended but am off to read The Predator part 2
I really enjoyed this book. It definitely left me wanting more and desperately left me craving and hoping for a HEA. The author certainly gripped me into the drama that was unfolding and kept my attention throughout all the twists and turns of angst. Can not wait to read part 2!
Katie was born into a political family. Her life was micromanaged by her overbearing family. She was told who to marry, what to study etc. Katie didnt want that life. But she was stuck. That was until she met Chamberlain and grew a back bone to stand up to her family.
Chamberlain was an amateur boxer. Training constantly to make the big time. Then along comes Katie and she knocks him out with her caring nature.
They embark on a whirlwind romance, heightened emotions due to the sizzling chemistry. Until it all goes wrong. Gwen was huge factor into the breakup. Katie catches them kissing but was it all as it seemed? No idea, she left the county. We need to wait until the book to see what happens after they see each other for the 1st time in years. Will Katie tell Chamberlain her biggest secret?
Really good read. I did however find the ending a bit to short. It stopped too suddenly for me. But would still love to read on.
If you detest cliffhangers wait for book 2 to come out.... this book is definitely a must read...great villains and oblivious hero's make for a great story....hands down best book by Brooke May yet... she truly writes great stories that make you feel her characters....you can't help but feel the joy and the heart ache Katie feels as she grows into her own woman...
I loved this book! This book sucked me in and never let me go. It was love found, love snatched away, love found again and all the crazy stuff in between. Katie and Chamberlain grow through this book and get stronger through it all. It could not put this book down it kept me up most of the night. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Let me start by saying I NEED BOOK TWO ASAP! and someone needs to throat punch Zoey and Gwen, Bitches.
Okay, now to my actual review. I loved it, all of it. I was completely surprised by it. I fell in love with the characters easily. Though, the storyline is a bit predictable, I can't complain.
Brooke May is a new author for me and by this book alone I know I'll be reading anything else she's written and will write.
☆☆☆☆ ~Jenny~ Boy, do I hate Cliffhangers! They make me literally want to pull my hair and scratch my eyes out, especially when you're reading a nail bitter like this story.
Meet Chamberlain, an underground fighter who dreams of becoming pro ...and Kate a rich girl who has the weight of the world on her shoulders. Two people from two different worlds fighting to be together.
I loved this story from the very beginning to the end. The relationship built slowly but when it finally came together I all but melted. Their terms of endearment for each other had me smiling. This story really brought out the bipolar in me with all the struggles and obstacles Kate and Chamberlain have to deal with is so frustrating. The author did a fantastic job creating these two characters and making them memorable. Besides the tantrum I'm literally throwing due the cliffy at the end, Predator was a great story.
KC and Chamberlain were amazingly hot together – Brooke May turned a simple story about two people from opposite sides into something with amazing heat and chemistry. The story ends with one hell of a cliff hanger, right when you didn’t see it coming. KC lives with her Aunt and comes from a influential family, however both KC and her Aunt are the black sheep of the family due to who they choose to love. Chamberlain is the sexy fighter who stole and broke KC’s heart. KC has been manipulated her whole life into what her parents feel that she should be – this all changes when Chamberlain comes into her life. KC and Chamberlain have some amazing chemistry, he’s the sexy fighter that at times can be overly possessive and KC covers her insecurities that he’s going to be taken away from her. KC’s best friend know nothing of her past invites her to an MMA fight. When KC sees Chamberlain at the fight with no one aside from his best friend, and gets told about the name tattooed on he’s chest, KC is curiously but can’t get out away quick enough and decides it’s time to tell Beth about her past. KC tells Beth how much she loved Chamberlain, the obstacles they overcame, including the many women that wanted the extremely hot fighter. The chemistry they had was sizzling, everything was in their reach, then one night KC sees something that she just couldn’t believe, so much that she walked away from Chamberlain and never looked back. Right at that point is where your left with a hell of a cliff hanger.
The Predator Part One was my initial introduction to Brooke May's books. I am so glad I discovered it. It was an amazing book, couldn't put it down until I finished it. I loved everything about Chamberlain and K.C.'s relationship. Right from the beginning you could tell they had a strong pull towards each other, even though they were from vastly different worlds. I found that K.C. was very down to earth considering how her other family members acted. There was also another major issue that evolved throughout the book, straining their relationship. This had me on edge the whole time. Throughout that, I was consistently going between loving Chamberlain and being soo frustrated with him! How could he not see this as a problem! The end came all too quickly, and it doesn't make it any better that it was a massive cliff hanger! I cannot wait to read Part Two now! What a way to keep people interested in the story, although it's soo frustrating waiting to find out what happens! Overall this was an extremely well written book! Absolutely loved it.
At the beginning of the book we meet K.C Cunningham and are introduced to the challenges she faces in her life. But to truly understand, May takes us back to the beginning of their relationship.
From the moment Katie and Chamberlain meet, sparks fly and you can't help but be rooting for their relationship to overcome the challenges of coming from different worlds and her families appearance issues.
My biggest objection to this book was it was a cliffhanger! And I love cliffhangers! May has done a brilliant job setting everything up for a highly anticipated book 2! Can't wait!
What a wonderful and heart-warming story with great characters and insta-love. Chamberlin is an underground fighter with his sights set on becoming pro and dreams of a day where he finds a love like his parents shared and KC is a rich girl of high society that fights the constraints and restrictions that her family have put on her throughout her entire life. The entire story is them against the world filled with obstacles and people trying to come between them and them fighting to be together. Story ends in a MAJOR cliffy that had me screaming NO WTF and wanting book 2 ASAP!
This is my first book in a new series. I had dreamed of this book for well over a year before I finally sat down to write it. It began as one simple idea and developed into something that is very near and dear to my heart. I love all my books in one way or another, but this one is truly special to me. The Predator isn't what you are expecting and is in two parts. I wrote it that way on purpose. I hope readers will love K.C. and Chamberlain as much as I do.
You could call it a modern day Romeo and Juliet, but it's nothing like that. Yes, there's a forbidden romance between a girl and boy. Only the boy is a Alpha boxer who's driven and strong. The. girl is finally discovering who she is. Their story is sweet, dramatic and off the charts hot. There's never a dull moment when the Predator is around. I can't wait for more.
Off the charts hot!!! This book is nothing like Brook May's other books but let me tell you.... She will WOW you with it still! I am so looking forward to the rest of the books. This is another GREAT hit for May! Her writing flows smoothly and her characters are great! You are really missing out if you have not read her books!
Okay…I know Chamberlain was K.C.’s first boyfriend, first everything, practically first friend but I hope that in the years separating them, K.C. grew up a little. There are big fat giant reasons she should have but that doesn’t mean that she did. Don’t even get me started on what Gwen did. That was wrong on soooooo many levels.
K.C. grew up on the right side of Boston. Connected parents that expected to play a role in their political aspirations and to “honor” the family name. This wasn’t who K.C. was. K.C. loved to dance and didn’t want the education path that her parents laid out for her. She didn’t want to be the trophy wife waiting at home for her philandering husband wondering where he was. K.C. needed to break away from her parents and after meeting Chamberlain, K.C. found the strength.
Chamberlain wasn’t anything that K.C. was. His father was a firefighter that was killed in the line when Chamberlain was 13. His mother died three years later, leaving him without family or anyone at 16. Luckily, Chamberlain was able to crash with Scott, a dear friend since elementary school. Chamberlain was working towards his goal of becoming a professional boxer. And he was close.
Chamberlain and K.C. were instant fire from the moment they met. Chamberlain gave K.C. the real world experiences she missed by growing up to fit the trophy wife mold. He took her to the zoo, he took her to a carnival and rode the ferris wheel, he took her go-cart riding, he took her to a movie. With Chamberlain, K.C. got the chance to be a person. The only problem was that there were others that thought of Chamberlain as theirs and kept trying to step in between Chamberlain and K.C., including his childhood friend Gwen. Yeah, she was going to be a big problem.
When one of Gwen’s schemes appears to have worked, K.C.’s life blows up. Can Chamberlain fix what Gwen broke? Will K.C.’s family have the final say about her life? Did Scott do it on purpose? When does Part Two come out? Why must we be tortured like this??
I am hooked. I have to know. If you want a kinda spicy tale that will rip your heart out while making you laugh, then pick this one up, but hold on because it is only just beginning!!!
I have not read anything by Brooke May before and have to say I loved the book. Not sure where to start with so starting by saying it is a 5-star read. There are so many characters in this book that can be written about. Starting with KC’s family, she felt no love from them at all and knew she was the outsider of the family, the only love she felt at home was from the family cook Fiona. Since her parents had wanted a boy, to continue the family powerful legacy. Unfortunately, their son had passed away, so unfortunately for KC this left that legacy in her hands, this is something she wanted no part of. KC was also expected to marry the boring Timothy who was part of another powerful family, but she was having no part of that either. KC wanted to pick her own partner, much to the disgust of her parents. Running late one afternoon she bumps into Chamberlain. She marvels at his height; how big his muscles were and his beautiful blue eyes that reminded her of the ocean. However, her first impression of Chamberlain was that he was arrogant. That is until he takes her for a meal when she realizes that she has judged him wrong. Moving on she meets Amber and Lizzie both girls are pure evil. Amber wants Chamberlain back, while Lizzie is hell bent on getting Chamberlain’s best friend Scott, in the process of this they make KC’s life hell whenever they bump into her. Then we have Gwen she openly admits that she does not like KC, but the feelings are mutual as KC does not trust Gwen. Personally, I think Gwen is in love with Chamberlain, but will let you make up your own mind on that. Scott comes across as a bit of a player but he as a heart of gold and besides Fiona and Chamberlain he is the only people in her life that treat her properly. That is until she meets her Aunt Jackie and her partner. This is where I am leaving this review and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Can not wait to read Predator Part two.

Chamberlain is aiming for the top in his fighting career, but when his gym closes for a refurb will he find somewhere to go and carry on training. When he walks into his new gym and seeing her, he is absolutely drawn but will she give the time of day. KC’s life has been planned out since she was born, what to wear, to say and even in the end when she marries exactly what she should wear but when she meets Chamberlain he seems to give her the confidence to break free of the mould her family has built around her but with them both being from different sides of the social status can there love survive the brutal jungle of life.
As their relationship progresses and the heat and passion drive on, there are rogue elements within each camp who would rather the relationship crash but can Katie and Chamberlain push through and have their happily ever after.
This is not the first book I have read by this author, and this will not be the last, the characters are so different but work together so well and you just want to believe that they can overcome the interference in the end and let love shine through.
The story was well written, and you felt like you were part of the story going into to the first chapter, with the twists and turns and the cliff hanger at the end you will want to dive straight into the second part to see what happens in the end. Chamberlain is a complex character who at first I was a little reluctant to like but as the story went on you get to see the true person he is and I started to warm to him. Katie was so different with her guiled cage and her frustration of just wanting to be who she is was hard to read but to see her blossom with Chamberlain which is great to read.
I am now reading the second part and devouring the next chapter in this series.
K.C. Cunningham is the daughter of a man who has a high standing in society and his trophy wife, and she has a sister, they all are entitled and cut from the same cloth, well apart from K.C. that is, she does not look or act like them at all. Chamberlain "The Predator" Lawrence is a man on a mission, he trains hard to achieve his ambitions and has a body to prove his determination, as well as looks which have every girl swooning over him. K. C. is nineteen and all she wants is to live her life free from their control, but up until now, she has never had the courage to defy them, that is until she meets a man.
One day K.C. is at the local gym and has just finished a class when as she leaves, she bumps into a wall of muscle and he takes her breath away, but she also does the same to him, especially when his friend comes up behind her and startles her so much that she throws him to the floor! After leaving in a rush of embarrassment, K.C. returns the next day to find him there again, but she is too shy to say anything, so when he finally comes over first, his demanding nature immediately sets her teeth on edge, however, when a less authoritarian side comes out, she agrees to go for lunch with him.
This is where a passionate flame ignites and consumes them both over the next few months, however, nothing is smooth sailing and K.C.'s family take offence to him, but they are not the only outside force wishing to keep them apart, but is there love worth fighting for, or will heartbreak and deception tear them apart before they have even really begun? This is a steamy romance with intrigue and an emotional rollercoaster which will hook you in and keep you enthralled throughout, as two opposites collide in an inferno of passion.
This is the first book in The Predator series. The is a second chance sport romance with lots going on. From sizzling chemistry and emotions that cant be denied to family angst, drama, secrets and lies all adding up to an explosive story.
KC is a high society girl. She lives with parents who rule her life in everyway from the choice of the career they thing she should have, to how she dresses and even who she will marry. KC has always felt not good enough for her parents and she realises she has dreams of her own she has a difficult decision to make. Does she continue to tow the line, do I job she will hate and marry a man who's abusive or does she stand up to them and tell them that she be following their plans.
Chamberlain is an up and coming fighter. When he meets KC the chemistry between them is instant. Chamberlain could have any good he wanted but he can't deny the attraction and pull he feels towards KC. KC knows he would never be accepted as her partner by her parents but she can't deny the way he makes her feel. She knows if she wants him and her own life she has to leave her parents. With Chamberlain she gets the courage to do just that. But what happens when KC's world is shattered. When the one person she thought cared for her turns out to not be the person she thought. With her parents against them and also the dangers of all the women who surround Chamberlain did they ever stand a chance?
This is a rollercoaster of a story. My heart went out to KC as it seemed she is battling with everyone in her life. This was such a great read that I can't wait to jump into book 2 to see how this story turns out.
K.C works as a waitress at The General's Golden Club with Beth. Since she graduated from college, she has been looking for a job as a teacher. All night long, she has to deal with grabby men in the bar. Her best friend, Beth, begs her to watch the upcoming boxing fights. She agrees, and Beth helps her dress up for the event. K.C becomes nervous when she watches her ex, Chamberlain "The Predator" Lawrence, fight. He wins and turns toward her. Shocked that her nickname is tattooed on his chest, K.C grabs Beth and rushes towards the exit. One of his entourage stops them, saying Chamberlain wishes to speak to her. She refuses and drags Beth into the car, waiting for them. Beth tells her to explain what the heck was going on. K.C shares her past with Chamberlain and what led to her move from Boston to Denver.
I was hooked immediately, as K.C is the black sheep of the family. I completely empathize with her struggles to establish her identity as an individual. The status quo of privileged socialites and power marriages is present in the book. Chamberlain is the guy every girl dreams of as Prince Charming. Despite possessing endearing traits, he also has several flaws, such as severe jealousy and not recognizing that Gwen, his best friend, is a bit too handsy. The character development in this story makes the unpredictable plot breathtaking. Exceptional detail made it easy to envision what was going through K.C’s mind as she told her story. I am eager to read the sequel and fully support a five out of five star rating for this book.
Everyone's in a while I find myself drawn to fighter romance novels, and I read this Authors other series that had Cowboys so I was looking forward to seeing what she could do with fighters.
Chamberlain was a great hero. He was one of those guys that command your attention and you can't help but become addicted to him. He was a A playboy but you can see the real him once you get reading. His past comes back to haunt the characters a lot throughout the book.
KC was great. With the way she grew up you would think that she would be different than how she was but I enjoyed that she was her own person and didn't let people from her family influence her too much into not being her own person, even though it was hard at times.
I really enjoyed the plot. It was pretty much the opposite attract but there's so much more that goes on through the pages that I was engrossed. It doesn't end in a cliffhanger but the second book is out so I look forward to diving into that.
I really did like the characters, but how KC acted after certain things happen irritated me to no point. She didn't let Chamberlain explain, she just ran. I won't go into more detail but that really did annoying me.
Overall, this book was very up to par to the authors writing that I have read in the past. I was engrossed with the characters lives, the past the present, and I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the future. 4 stars #2OCCJD
I don't even know where to start. I have so many words and thoughts about Predator - Part One - yeah I know there is a part two so just prepare yourself now. It's not that bad though. Ok so, I have so many thoughts about this book and my feelings that I don't know how to get them all out without going on forever.
Predator is raw, filled with angst and drama, heart break and heartache. Then there is also love and romance thrown into the mix and you are left speechless. K.C. and Chamberlain's story was everything and then some.
Brooke May, my heart hurt for K.C. The things she had to endure and for her to be the young, amazing woman she was is an amazing feat. I felt every emotion she had whether it was good or bad and damn her spunkiness had me in stitches so many times. Then you bring Chamberlain into the picture and hot damn if you didn't just want to wrap him up and bring him home with you. Not only is he a sexy as hell boxer but he has a soft side to him as well that just has you swooning all over the place.
K.C. And Chamberlain's story is an emotional and rocky one but damn if I wasn't drawn it from the beginning and left breathless at the end. A definite must read in my book. Gotta get book two now...
