When the book fair came to my sons school. I let him pick out any one book and I’ll Wait, Mr. Panda was his pick. He loves this Panda book. We read it several times a week, which is great. That’s what you want when you get a book. One you will enjoy over and over again.

I like this Panda book; because it’s all about teaching patience and politeness. The Panda expects patience, but is often disappointed; yet in the end he is generous to the patient penguin. The Panda does seem gruff, but I still feel this is a nice story to read to young kids (preschool/kindergartners) and the illustrations are cute.

I'm really into slightly curmudgeonly and matter-of-fact Mr. Panda. He expects politeness, is often disappointed, but proves quite generous to the patient penguin in the end. A good one to use to talk to young kids about patience and politeness that doesn't come off as didactic. And donuts! Who doesn't love donuts?

The wonderful manager of our local library branch scored me a copy of this at ALA this year. It's the dummy, or unbound copy, but all the art is complete and it came with a sheet of stickers. He knows how much my kids and I love the first one, and got this for us. Librarians are awesome!

And behold, it's just as good as the first one. It doesn't have quite the twist ending as the first, but the deadpan expression on Mr. Panda's face, and the charm of the black and white animal friends that surround him, makes the book just as perfect.

The irascible Mr. Panda returns in this second picture-book devoted to his doings, following upon the popular Please, Mr. Panda . Engaged in baking a special treat, our ailuropodine hero must contend with a variety of animals asking him just what it is he is preparing and when it will be ready. His response to each - "Wait and see. It is a surprise" - is greeted with impatience by all but a little penguin, who continually assures Mr. Panda that he will wait...

Like its predecessor, I'll Wait, Mr. Panda is a beautifully-illustrated picture-book that examines an aspect of good manners - in the previous book it was saying please, here it is having patience - in a humorous way. Unlike its predecessor, which I found somewhat muddled in its moral clarity - I felt that it endorsed behaving in a rude manner when confronted with rudeness, which is the wrong message to send - this story rewards good behavior without any sort of retributive action on the part of Mr. Panda for bad behavior. While it is true that the impatient animals don't get the delicious treat at the end, they have been deprived of that pleasure by their own behavior, rather than by a rescinding of an existing offer, as was the case in the first book. In short: I enjoyed this one just as much as the first, aesthetically speaking, while also endorsing the lesson it teaches. Recommended to anyone looking for stories that seek to inculcate good manners in children, as well as to anyone who enjoys Steve Antony's colorful artwork, or just enjoys tales about pandas.

Ihan sympaattinen tapaus.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this in a cute lil' children's bookstore. Surprised because I didn't know there were are going to be any more books chronicling the adventures of Mr. Panda who really is quite the best.

Can't wait for more!

Better than the first book. This cute, light picture book explores the concept of waiting. Mr. Panda is more polite in this book. No surprises in the ending, but cute dialogue throughout.

Like the first one, I just can't connect with the rudeness of Panda. I know it's trying to teach a lesson, but I'm bothered by the method.

Patience pays off for Penguin who gets a sweet treat in this animal-filled story, which is best read with a variety of voices.

Mr. Panda is baking something special, but most of his animal friends are too impatient to stick around and find out what it is. Penguin is the only one willing to wait, and he is rewarded with one BIG surprise! A simple story that teaches the value of patience. The book very cleverly keeps what Mr. Panda is baking a secret until the very end. That way, we the readers are rewarded for our patience just as the penguin is. I like the wide variety of animals featured in the story. Alpacas, aardvarks, and secretary birds will be new to most kids, so they will probably be a good source of discussion. The text is simple enough to keep most storytime crowds' attention, and the black and white animals on neutral blue backgrounds are easy to see from across the room. A nice storytime choice that teaches kids a much needed skill. And of course, I love that the penguin remembers to say, "Thank you" at the end. :)

This is a fantastic book to read to children who are about to start school or are in elementary school! This books main message is about waiting. As Mr. Panda is baking (what seems like forever) the penguin decides to wait for him to finish. As all the other animals are too impatient too wait, Penguin ends up getting the huge surprise at the end of the story. This shows that having patience and waiting is worth the wait.

I keep thinking about this book which supports the basic adage that good things come to those who wait!
Penguin repeatedly tells Mr. Panda that he is willing to wait for Mr. Panda's surprise while the other curious animals do not have patience. This is a delightful book with a huge payoff for Penguin! (I say serve sprinkled treats when you get to the end.:))

Text-to-Self Connection

This book has a strong connection to me because it was the first book that my daughter really enjoyed reading. She is not a fan of reading, especially being in kindergarten, but this book is her absolute favorite. The way she uses the expressions in her voice when we read the book, knowing she understands, is amazing. We have also read this book in Spanish. There is a version of the book with Spanish subtitles, and she will have me read that part while she reads the rest of the story. I think it also reminds me of her because it has helped her with patience, she always reverts back to the book by saying "I know I have to wait just like the book I'll Wait Mr. Panda".

I'm not sure what the point of this story is, but the illustrations are cute. Panda is making something and everyone wants to know what it is, but no one except penguin is willing to wait to find out. Penguin has patience. Penguin's patience is rewarded in the end with a prodigious pastry.

As most of us have learned from experience, waiting isn't easy, but it often results in good things. As Mr. Panda busily mixes together various ingredients, several animals walk by and ask what he's making. He refuses to say, telling them that they will just have to wait. One by one, the animals, including an anteater and several bunnies, come and go, not having the patience to wait. But a little penguin remains steadfast in his resolve to wait and find out what will come out of Mr. Panda's mixing bowl and oven. Young readers will agree that his patience is rewarded and that good things come to those who wait. I liked the facial expressions on the faces of the animals and Mr. Panda's eyes as well as his posture as he hides the contents of that bowl. Clearly, this picture book offers food for thought and a gentle lesson about patience. Many of the animals couldn't even wait for one minute, which reminds me of some folks I have known who prefer immediate gratification when part of the joy of getting something is the anticipation.

Picture books. They make my little heart go pitter-patter with joy. Good picture books, that is.

Please, Mr. Panda makes my little heart go swish-swish. Happily. Donuts. Kindness. Politeness. Generosity.

I'll Wait, Mr. Panda makes my little heart go lub-lub. Oh-so-sweetly. Patience. And more donuts.

Mr. Panda is back - and this time he is baking. But what is he baking? Ah - it's a surprise! All the curious animals that inquire are told that they must wait and see. But no one wants to wait. Except for penguin! But will it be worth the wait? Read the story to discover that some things are definitely worth waiting for!

This is a great book for impatient little ones. Mr. Panda is baking something. No matter how many times he is asked what he is making, he responds that you have to wait and see. Only Penguin will wait. And, yes, good things come to those who wait!

Good for preschool or toddler storytimes.

I think if Mr. Panda smiled, I would fall out. Poor Mr. Long-suffering Mr. Panda is all I can think. And yeah for the Penguin who is rewarded in the end, in a BIG time way.
