Somewhere In-Between

Rate this book
There’s life, there’s death, and for some, there’s the in-between.

Mara Crowe was your average high school senior. She had good grades was bests friends with Ashley, and in a relationship with Van, one of the star basketball players, that was more off than on most days. She was trying to get her last year of high school all in order with less partying and more time studying. Of course, not wanting to be the party pooper, and also wanting to make sure that Van didn’t do anything to jeopardize their relationship once again, she agreed to one last party. One last night that was supposed to be fun-filled, one last night that changed the course of everything.
Max Carter was there, wherever there was at the moment. He knew he was stuck in the in-between, but wasn’t sure how to get to either side. In fact, sometimes he didn’t know which side he wanted to go to. He’d left it all behind a few months ago in a spur of the moment decision, yet he wasn’t where he thought he would end up. There were people that came and went, but no one stayed as long as he had in this place. He could watch from afar what his family and friends were doing, but he couldn’t reach out to them…he was all alone.
That was until she came. She filled that empty space that he always had. She made him laugh, cry, feel all the things he never thought he’d ever feel again…but most of all she made him love. He knew there would come a day when she would be able to choose her pathway. One day, she would leave and he would be left alone once again.
Max could help her go back, but was he willing to give up his happiness for her. Time was running out for both of them. Which path would they choose? Would they pick the one that would allow them to be together forever, or would they be separated by a time that no one knew existed?

The idea of this story seemed so good. Unfortunately, it hasn’t turned out as I’d expected at all.
I know that every author puts a lot of time and hard work in their books. That’s why I always feel a bit sorry in case of 1-star ratings.
I think, Beau’s intention was to write a really, REALLY romantic love story with soul mates, true love, being together even after life and all that. For me, it just didn’t work.

Mara is in a coma, and that’s where she meets Max. Our better say, their souls meet. They fall in love for sure, but Mara’s body in the real world is healing and so she wakes up one day. Her Max is gone. And then everything becomes so super flat and annoying that I had to force myself to go on.
I think my biggest problem was Mara. She’s probably the simplest and most naïve character I ever came across. It seems, the only thing she’s interested in is guys. And after meeting Max, it’s only him. Which is ok when you’re madly in love, but there isn’t one thought in this book without Max and how to be with him forever ( - oh, and to have s*x with him, of course). She’s absolutely blind to the rest of the world. She doesn’t even care about her parents after waking up.

My mom had tears streaming down her cheeks, and my dad looked as though his eyes were watering profusely. I wanted to scream at them that I needed to go back. I needed to find Max.

EVERY step she takes is to get to him. She even goes to a college near his town, but she doesn’t attend to a single course, she just hangs around being depressed until she gets another idea how to be closer to Max. Luckily, Max (his soul) appears from time to time and only she can see him. That’s good, because I had time to brace myself for her next depression when he disappears.
Well, too stupid that Max’s soul is refusing her quite often. He behaves like he isn’t even interested in her, he tells her, everything that had happened in the “In-Between” just stays there. And Mara? Her next step was moving near his town to see him more often. Urgh. I really wanted to shake her, it was just so stupid and not logic at all.
The idea of Max’s soul appearing to her in the real world was a nice one. But with Mara’s behavior it turned out not romantic at all, but more weird as Mara gives the impression that she’s a total psychopath.

What I also didn’t like was the time skipping. It didn’t feel suitable when the author used to jump forward 3 months and nothing changed. There wasn’t really a sense to do so.

Last but not least, there are sooo many grammar and language mistakes. I mean, I’m not a native speaker and normally I wouldn’t even recognize them in English books, but this one was full of them.

I wouldn’t recommend this book. One star as I unfortunately didn’t enjoy it at all.

The book was so badly written. The author didn't know how to use a comma properly. The cover may be gorgeous but the content is crap.

Mara is the most selfish, bitchiest, idiotic character I've ever come across. She pretty much calls everyone a bitch except for her best friend Ashley (the only tolerable character in the book).

Mara complains about her mundane life with her horrible on-off boyfriend who pressures her for sex and cheats on her. Why would you even stay with a guy like that is beyond me.

She takes her parents and Ashley for granted. She acts like a complete brat to them when she wakes from her coma because all she wants to do is be with her ONE TRUE LOVE forever.

She's a hypocrite. She had so much hate for people she barely even knew (her love interest's ex). And then suddenly the ex turns out to be a bitch! Like wtf!

And god, that ending. How selfish can you be?! I'm actually curious about the supposed sequel now. But I think I'll only check it out if it's free. Thank god I got this for free from the author. This book isn't even worth your 99 cents.

Somewhere In Between is a different kind of love story. 18 year old Mara and 21 year old Max met and fell in love in that place in between life and death while they were both in a coma. Topics touched on in this book include: peer pressure, friendship, depression and suicide. This was an easy read and it held my attention from start to finish however I did not care for the ending at all even though for some it would be a HEA ending.
If you're looking for something different, give this book a try.

I was gifted this book.

This is the first book by Izzibella I have read.

The story flowed very well and the characters were developed. This story has its heartbreaking moments. Makes you wonder what really happens when your stuck somewhere in between life and death.

This book is different from other books I have read and I throughly enjoyed it. I read it in about an hour last night.

Amazing and sad

It's a different type of read, interesting and sad.I finished it in one sitting, it's a fast read. I was able to connect with heroine, I felt her vulnerability. An amazing book honestly and I can't wait for the second installment. I would recommend this book to everyone.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

I liked the concept of this book, the idea of there being somewhere in between and everyone having a soulmate. The ending was not what I expected, I understand why Mara would do such a thing but felt her emotions could have been explored more.

I will be interested to see what book 2 will be about.

Title: SOMEWHERE IN-BETWEEN
Series: Breathless #1
Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance
Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content
Received from: Izzibella Beau (in exchange for an honest review)
Grammar/editing: C – needs to be edited further

This is the first story in the Breathless series. I believe they will need to be read in order.

First, I need to note that there are two Breathless series from this author and they are not related to one another. So, this could become a point of confusion if and when either of those series have a second book (or more).

I thoroughly enjoyed this inventive walk between life and death. Somewhere in-between the two, Max and Mara have found each other. An easy and deep friendship turns to love, but true love is always tested. Where will their love find them in the end – here, there, or somewhere in-between?

One caveat: Please do not read this book if depression is an issue in your life. I don’t want to say more than that, because I do not want to give spoilers. If you want more specific answers and don’t mind a spoiler, I will accept personal messages on Goodreads, Facebook, or by email ([email protected]).

This is the first book that I have read from Izzibella Beau. I hope I get to read another book from her.

Somewhere In-Between

I received this book as an arc for an honest review.

Man this book was NOT what I expected at all. It was a very quick read for me and at some points there were some grammar errors but overall I liked the book. The main characters are Mara and Max. They meet when they are exactly dead but aren't alive either. Yes a little confusing. And I will not lie at some points I honestly thought is this all a dream or maybe Mara hit her head a little to hard. Especially since the only person who could see Max was her. But then I thought is she his guide to basically want to live again because maybe he just wasn't ready to come back just yet but that wasn't it either. Honestly still kind of confused why he never returned to his body because I figured that would be the ending. That didn't happen either. The ending was something else altogether. Some would probably say that Mara was foolish for the choice she made in the end. To love someone that much that you truly can not live without them. It was kind of deep. I don't know if I would have done the same for love but then again do we really know? Love can be unexplainable at times. I would recommend this book to people. But I would say to keep an open mind.

Great concept

I happened to really like this story but it lacked depth and detail. The concept was amazing but I couldn't help but feel something was missing throughout. Mara was likeable and Max was a sweetheart. I feel like their situation was unique but everything felt rushed after their connection. I would recommend it for sure for someone who wants a quick read.
There are several grammatical errors (not mind blowing ones, ones that could be fixed with an a good editor) and some slight formatting issues. I would have given this four stars had there been no grammatical errors or formatting issues.

This is the first book I've read by Izzibella Beau! I really enjoyed it! I liked the characters and the story.
I'm looking forward to continuing this series.
I was gifted a copy to review.
4 stars!!

My favorite quotes/part of the story:

"You're alive somewhere, most likely there. But not active where your mind and body are. So until everything gets back into check on that side, you're here."

"It's just when I think I've found the person that I've spent my whole life looking for, and it happens to be somewhere in-between life and death, I'm not quite sure if I want to go back to the way things used to be."

I love reading Izzibella Beau’s YA romances. She writes such vivid characters that literally jump out of the pages. I love the characters of Mara and Max and their time together in the “In between.” This is a very poignant story with all the highs and lows of high school and the frustrated beginning of those college years. I love Ash’s friendship with Mara, but I never suspected the ending. Very nerve shattering and filled with sadness in one way, and happiness in the other. This story is one you won’t soon forget, as the ending will remain with you long after the last page had been turned.

*** I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.***

I really wanted to love this book. The concept had me intrigued, Soul mates who meet and fall in love while both are in a coma. However, this story fell way flat. I wasn't impressed with the character dialogue or development, and the ending just left a bad taste in my mouth.
