Extinction End

Rate this book
Hope rises in the hearts of those still left standing, but safety seems to be just an illusion. In a single night of shattering terror, Plum Island is destroyed, and key scientist Dr. Kate Lovato is abducted.

The end has arrived...

Almost seven weeks have passed since the Hemorrhage Virus ravaged the world. The remnants of the United States military have regrouped and relocated Central Command to the George Washington Carrier Strike Group. It's here, in the North Atlantic, that President Jan Ringgold and Vice President George Johnson prepare to deploy a new bioweapon and embark on the final mission to take back the country from the Variants.

With his home gone and his friends kidnapped, Master Sergeant Reed Beckham and his remaining men must take drastic measures to save what's left of the human race. But not everyone at Central Command has the same plan for victory. As the Variants continue to evolve, only a handful of heroes stand between the creatures and mankind's total extinction.

One way or another, the battle for the United States of America ends here.

After the incursion on Plum Island by the Variants and the human collaborators: Kate, Meg, Tasha, Jenny, Donna, Bo and other survivors are taken back to Manhattan by their captors. The Alpha Variant: known as The Bone Collector is leading them back to their lair.

The remnants of Team Ghost: Beckham, Horn and Fitz (Chow is recovering after he got maimed trying to capture a Juvenile Variant back in New York), and what's left of the Variant Hunters; Garcia, Thomas and Tank 'Talon' are in hot pursuit. I liked how Team Ghost and the Variant Hunters worked together; they had each others backs.

We learn a lot more about the Juvenile offspring of the Variants in this book: they are just as lethal when they are dead as they are alive - which one lucky scientist finds out when he does a little bit too much probing with one of the specimens. I didn't think you could do too much. I was wrong. And these creatures are far more intelligent; faster; have armour plating covering their bodies - and have something else in their arsenal that makes the Aliens (as in the movies) acid for blood seem like water.

This was a lot more emotional than the previous book - and I'm still peeved at what happened to one of the characters that died; the way it was drawn out, in the most excruciating way. Some characters are not expendable - and this was one of them.

Just like the other books in the series, there is plenty of action, and lots of missions. The medical side of things are always interesting, though I didn't have a fucking clue what they were on about half (most) of the time or how kosher it is. It was still intriguing though; as Ellis and the other scientists attempt to grow a brain; and hopefully have the human race as the dominant species - as opposed to the alternative.

There were a few other surprises in this book as well: the colour change in Lieutenant Davis's eyes, which quite possibly freaked me out more than anything else. Obviously, an inconsistency, as she had blue eyes in the previous book: green eyes in this one - still unclear which colour I prefer. There were also a few typos, though nothing that major.

One more book left in the series. Extinction Cycle: Aftermath.

Is This The End?

Captain Beckham and who’s left of Team Ghost are determined to complete their (hopefully) final mission to destroy the Variants.

The Kryptonite poison appears to work very well on the adults, but the juveniles aren’t having any problems with it.

Kate Lovato and her team must come up with another idea for offense. After all, the juveniles have plenty of defensive tricks up their ugly sleeves.

Plenty of action, horrific horror and of course, death. The level of splatter is sky-high, but oh, so satisfying when a Variant is getting killed.

A Pleasant reading.

I will never, ever, EVER forget this series.

With every victory, I cheered. With every loss, my heart ached. I had the strong urge to email this Mr. Nicholas and give him a piece of my mind, but that's not lady like.

Anyway, I loved Apollo. He was my favorite character in this series. How can a character without words have one of the biggest impacts on the tone of a story as serious as Extinction? Because it was the best dern dog ever written into a tale, that's why. You could feel all of his emotions, loyalty, love, pain, contentment, and happiness. I love that freaking German Shepard!

In this book we Learn what real men and women are made of. In this book your good looks, large muscles, or intelligence is not what defines who you are or count towards your worth or value to the world and mankind; it's all about the heart.

We learn who our enemies are among the human race. We observe how one individuals twisted opinion could have the power to bring our great nation as well as the world to its knees by one horrific decision.

The offsprings of the original variants will send chills down your spine. They will have you jumping at shadows. I'm serious! I stopped reading to go get my daughter some medicine and was locking my truck doors, looking around for variants, and rushing to get back in my house before one tried to snatch my luscious self up. Whew, shouldn't be reading this stuff late at night.

Enjoy this authors first works for the low price while you can because, he's going places, as he should, and it's just a matter of time until we will have to pay more for his books. If this Nicholas dude keep writing stories that are as wonderful as this series, I don't mind paying more money. In the meantime this series is a "read for free" for KU members.

I highly recommend this series to all 18 and up folks who can read. If you know someone who can't read, and you think they would love this book, I heard that hooked-on-phonics worked for some people, so you might want to consider buying it for them as a birthday or Christmas gift, otherwise you can read it to them if you have the patience (I couldn't do that). Maybe there is an audio version or something, IDK.

After a disappointing #4 of the series, "Extinction End" really made a big jump in quality. There are much less meaningless meat grinding and much more, well, plot. A few twists, a few unexpected events, and generally a decent ending to the whole series. Yes, there are two further books, but as far as I know, it is more an aftermath or a spin-off style to the main storyline. Anyways, I'm pleasantly surprised by this book, it is better than I expected. 4*.

I’ve been sitting on this review for a while because I really just wasn’t sure where to begin. This series had me feeling so many things and it all came to a head in the final installment. Hope, loss, anger, betrayal, it’s all there. I honestly have to admit to almost crying more than once (I’m not a crier so this is something for me).

In the final installment we really get to see what the different characters are made of, and it’s not all good. Some show their true ability to be empathetic as well as analytical, and often times are the heroes of the horrific chaos that is going on; sometimes at the cost of their own lives. While others show how completely narcissistic and selfish they are in their hubris. While we do see the, what I will refer to as the antiheroes, get what’s coming to them, it doesn’t mean that all the good guys make it out unscathed and hunky dory. The heroes of this story end up battered, bruised, missing limbs, missing eyes, losing friends and family, and many end up dead. Either by battle wounds or full on Varient attacks. And the war isn’t even done yet.

At the end of the story we are filled with a sense of hope, while still catering to the mending of broken hearts from losing so many people we grow to care about as readers. The Varients are by no means gone but are no longer untouchable. Nicholas kind of left the series at a point where he could pick up the story again and start doing additional stuff in that world, but I really hope he doesn’t. Not that I think this story ended with everything wrapped in a pretty pink bow (thank God), but I feel like it ended the way it needed to. And I commend the author for continuously turning out stories that I can’t put down, and whose characters I become ridiculously attached to. I’ll be a fan of Nick’s for as long as he’s writing and I would highly recommend his work to sci-fi fans especially.

I received an arc of this story from the author, in exchange for my honest review.

The end of a super series

I had very mixed feelings as I started reading EXTINCTION END, the final book in the five-part EXTINCTION series. Author Nick Smith brought the characters in these books to life. I felt like I got to know and love (and hate) them.

Reed and Kate and all the Variant hunting crew felt like family. And how do you just say goodbye to family at the end of the book?

I still feel that way but I wouldn't have missed this slam-it-out-of-the-park ending for anything. All the previous four books were great but the author outdid himself on this final installment.

Totally action packed, a little romance thrown in, AND WARNING: not everyone makes it to the end. I was saying some choice words about the author as I read certain passages. But it works and the author handled difficult passages with finesse.

The characters, the storyline, the Variants - all the loose ends are masterfully tied in a big goodbye knot.

There was a brief epilogue and I appreciated that. My hope is that author Smith will miss these characters as much as us readers are going to and he writes one more book, maybe a couple years in the future, to let us know how our characters are doing and the world too.

I was lucky enough to get an Advanced Reading Copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. But I have bought my own copies of all this author's books. I want to support his writing career in my own small way.

You’d think after five books, the Extinction Cycle might start to get a bit stale. Somehow, though, Nicholas Sansbury Smith has managed to keep this series rocking and rolling, presenting a cross-genre affair that continues to impress and excite.

I’ve really appreciated the way Smith continues to up the ante, transforming the Variant threat into a global crises that only grows more and more complicated. The elements involved in crafting an Extinction book work wonderfully well, and Smith ties up action, science, horror, and military thriller into a tight, impossible to put down read. Even after five books, I’m still on the edge of my seat.

Here, Team Ghost, led as always by Reed Beckham, are making their last-ditch push toward ending the threat of the monstrous Variants, whose offspring have evolved some particularly nasty new elements that allow Smith to craft several wonderfully gruesome scenes. Packed with a ton of action and a lot of heart, we’re taken across multiple front lines on land and at sea as Team Ghost contends with monsters and monstrous humans. The fighting is intense and masterfully crafted (a staple of this series), right on up through an excellent climax that blends the suspense and action of Aliens and Die Hard (or maybe Under Siege is a better example), with a lot of heart-string tugging and plenty more “oh sh–” moments.

For all intents and purposes, this is supposedly the last book in the series, although there’s plenty of wiggle room left for another book if the author so chooses. And if it is, in fact, the last book, rest assured that Smith is not resting on his laurels here.

I’ve been a big fan of this series, and this might be the best entry of the lot. Smith gets full-on cinematic in his epicness here. As far as I’m concerned, this is a fitting conclusion for Sgt. Reed Beckham, Dr. Kate Lovato, and the other members of Team Ghost. If we do get a sixth book down the line, I’ll definitely be reading it (especially if Smith presents some of the catastrophe and struggle in Europe or Asia. This series has been focused on the US front-lines of the war, but I’m itching to see a more global examination of the story.). If we don’t, then it’s been a fantastic run for Smith, his characters, and this reader in particular.

Hoorah!

Well, I was hoping for something different, but it was more of the same. That's not bad, but with this being the last book of the series I was looking for a bigger, more hopeful ending. I may have reached my zombie limit.

I have started this review many times but wasn't able to formulate the words that I wanted to say, not because this was bad, but because it was exceptional and the words I wanted to say weren't enough. This book, and indeed the whole series, has been phenomenal.

So Kate, Meg, Tasha, Jenny and a few other islanders were taken by the variants and their collaborators back to the lair of the Bone Collector. Beckham and team Ghost (well what's left of them anyway) immediately set out on a rescue mission. It might just be their toughest fight yet because the girls are in danger.

Meanwhile, there is dissension in the ranks, with someone wanting to send a nuclear bomb to wipe out the variants, even with men still in the field, but the president denying the request. The culprit isn't happy though and a mutiny is about to take place. Can Lt. Davis and a handful of hurt marines stop it in time?

This is just a drop in the bucket of what happens in this book!! As with each book, the action is non stop, and I mean non stop. Every page is chock full of it and it's hard to take a breath because you know something is about to happen!! I didn't just read this... I devoured it as I couldn't put it down!!

The author isn't afraid to take risks either. In every book characters die, but he also kills off some prominent ones, and I was afraid to find out who was killed here!!! There are deaths, some of them painful ones, and no-one is left unscathed. My heart was in my mouth so many times with this and I was in tears a lot too, but it all added up to a simply amazing book.

These characters have become some of my favourite and even though this was supposed to be the end, I'm so glad the author decided to write 2 more. This would have been a satisfying ending to Beckham's tale, but there were a lot of unanswered questions and I'm delighted we get to see some of Team Ghost go to Europe and take back the world!!

I don't know what else to say about this... other than it's one of the best series I've read in years! Extinction End was stunning, stupendous, amazing, exceptional and extraordinary!! Brilliantly written and developed, it's a must read for everyone!

To me, Bronson Pinchot is Beckham and Horn and all the other amazing characters!! He nailed the performance and gave every character their own tones and voices. He captured the very essence of the book perfectly and drew me in with his inflections. Brilliant!!

With more twists and turns then any hard-core roller coaster fan could handle Nicholas Sansbury Smith again demonstrates why he is one of the most exciting new kids on the block. This latest edition to the Extinction Cycle starts off at a blistering pace and keeps it up to the very end.

This book has it all action, thrills, horror, suspense, heartbreak, hope, desperation, friendship and love. These are all mixed together to deliver a perfect story that has depth of both character and narrative. Be warned though if you love your nails then DO NOT read this book as the suspense to be found in these pages will find you chewing them away without even noticing.

I have been fortunate to have followed the journey this young author has taken over the last few years. From his first offering to this latest one he goes from strength to strength…Ok I will stop banging on about him now and leave it up to you to see if you agree.

If Goodreads had 10 stars out of five, I would use that rating.
I can't begin to tell you all how much I love this series.
It's pretty much perfect military post-apocalyptic horror.
I was worried the author wouldn't be able to end it well enough to match the ultra-quality of the previous four books, but I was wrong. This is perfect. Absolutely perfect.
Do not miss out on this series.

The end does not come swift, or silently

I expected the end to come sooner than it did. Just like he does, you think things are going along fine, and then BAM, let's have a little more action. I am mostly happy with the ending. Hopefully there will be another story, showing us this new world.

Mini-Review:

Solid series. I'll take that. I really like how Smith makes you think that everything is totally freaking awful and yet it doesn't turn out that way every time. The way he weaves in hope is great. There are definite themes that recur within the plot and characters. I'm okay with that. It shows how similar events can be despite happening at different times and with different people.

Just when I thought the rest of the original crew would be lost, I felt gleeful to hear about how they managed to stay alive. There's a lot of information about the Variants and the effects of the massive destruction on the people, places and things. It makes the story close to home.

I could end the series here and not feel bad. That's what the author intended. Since I have 4-6 in a trilogy set, I will keep going into the next book. That one will decide if I want to grab book 7.

If you like great core characters, action and the survival of the human race among monsters, you will enjoy this series.

4-ish stars for this one. A very difficult book to rate for a number of reasons. Still very VERY exciting - heck, the battle scenes alone were worth the price of admission - but a lot of things kept this one from being as good as the previous tome to me.

First, this should have been 2 books. There's just so much that happens and so much that I think deserved even more pages than were given that it could have easily been a 2-book tale on its own. I know authors are under pressure by their publishers to deliver both on-time and in-spec but I really wish this part had been filled out more even considering the page count we wound up with.

And like I said, even though the action was literally breath-taking and heart-stopping and sphincter-, um, ruining there were some parts that I felt were overtly gratuitous in both the violence and/or death count. Yes, this war was gruesome and was destined to get worse but some of this just went beyond MY comfort level even though it was no doubt very accurate in terms of the descriptions of war. And even though a lot of my reaction was based on the emotional toll of reading about some characters' deaths, I didn't feel like we had to leave so many of the protagonists in the state they ended the book in.

And finally - and I think this is also a sub-heading under feeling like things were a little rushed - this book really stretched the believability of the story-line. Some aspects just became at best precariously shakey and bordered on the absurd. Examples include: EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. a variant was brought to a lab, it escaped or killed people and/or both. No exceptions. Come on, people: LEARN! Even the final and very well-played scene with Lt. Brett - exciting yes, but just stupid by those in charge.

Also the constantly winning battles against overwhelming odds - even friendly sniper fire and unstable mutated Variants or their kids or surviving in a shit- and corpse-filled NYC building - was just a bit too WWE scripted. Wowzers, I mean really. And also - and this will stick with me forever - everyone left on the planet could see where we were going with Kramer. That no one put a stop to it earlier - beyond "don't make me raise my voice at you young lady or you'll get time out!" - was just ludicrous. I know the human race was decimated to near extinction, but come on, military discipline has to count for something. Letting a private army operate in the presence of the POTUS and VP? Harumph.

BUT!!!! In the end, even though I was torn, this was still yet another amazing NSS tale. He is truly a master at his craft. Sure, I'll accept that some of my issues are based on my own selfishness or hindsight or just an overdose of his books over the past few weeks, including 2 Hell Divers in there. I'm going to take a break now - no worries, the next books in this and the next series are already downloaded - and then pick it up when my head clears. So keep Diving Against North Korean Sicilian Mafiaoso with Lamprey Teeth friends, we'll see you soon!

Beckham leads the rescue mission into New York to find those kidnapped by the variants as war breaks out between two rival gangs. A group of civilians in an apartment building await help as the helicopters fly over. Ellis tries out the new virus on the captured variant and an outbreak threatens the ship. Mutiny begins.

The action begins with the attempted rescue in New York and Beckham is determined to find Kate, Donna, Meg and the children. With their aerial observations, it doesn't take long to find the variants and their prisoners but things are complicated when a second variant gang want to take the prisoners. Team Ghost needs to hold off both groups in order to rescue everyone. Team Ghost fly above a building with a help sign and civilians on the roof so they detour to see what they can do to help. The women and children are loaded into the helo while Fitz, Meg, Garcia and Tank stay behind to organise a defence from the variants on the street until rescue can come back for them.

Ellis decides to test out the new virus on the captured variant child with shocking results that leads to an outbreak on the ship. A scientist decides to probe a variant body with too much enthusiasm and the resulting disaster puts several of them into quarantine until it can be decided whether or not they are infected. There are other issues to deal with on the ship with an all out mutiny by someone who is fanatical about using nuclear weapons to get rid of the variants, even if it means killing all survivors. Lt Davis is prepared to do anything to stop them and save the President.

A final mission is ordered where ground troops have to take a new weapon into the variant nests to try to kill as many as they can. Unaware that a ship mutiny has an unstable military woman in charge of the nuclear weapons, Team Ghost go into the target area to do their duty. When one team member is badly injured, another decides to make the ultimate sacrifice to save him.

This was quite an emotional book which starts with the aftermath of the death of a beloved character. We don't see his body for a long time so I was hoping he was lying injured on Plum Island and would be found and saved but no such luck. There was the emotional death of another character, disaster on the ship with the mutiny, the constant fear over the safety of poor adorable Apollo and the big sad scene right towards the end. This was hard on the guts for sure but it was another great book. There was the usual action and tension and the added horror this time of a mutiny and nuclear weapons bearing down on Team Ghost to worry about.

Another exciting book.

The fifth book in the series wasn’t as gripping as its predecessors for me.

Maybe the problem were other characters like Garcia for example, I didn’t think he was that relevant to give him that much focus which already started in book four and I didn’t like it much then either. He didn’t grow on my over the time besides being a side character. This goes for other characters as well. It was a nice change but also a bit weird given no real background why the president was so attached to Kate. At times I wondered if she was secretly in love with her. Then we have the predictable human villain. How she was able to raise so much support with no one noticing was beyond me. To get control over almost all the fleet where a couple of thousand people were stationed, living and working is beyond me. This development was neglected by the author in my opinion given he showed previously he can do better.

And taking the focus off of the main characters I have attached myself to, made this book a not so deep experience for me.

When you read 3 books focusing and attaching yourself to certain characters, it is always tough to introduce new ones.

And I think that is also the reason I didn’t like how this book ended. The main characters were pushed aside. It showed that it was set up for the following books to focus more on other characters.

I didn’t like that only Reed got a medal in the end, indicating he will take a side role in the following books.
There weren’t given any reasons why Horn among others weren’t worthy for a medal and maybe a promotion as well.

As for the personal struggles of the characters, the author did a great job throughout the books, but at times it only repeated itself.
The birth and evolution of the “zombies”, the variants and their offspring was very interesting.
But in book 4 and 5 the series lost its steam, not only by shifting the focus on new characters like I mentioned above, but also because it read like we were in a bubble when it comes to the acting command center left leading the remaining people/military.
The action was always great and suspenseful, but for me it is dependable on the characters in it. And if I am rooting for them or not.

I am unsure I continue reading, as for book 6 and 7 Reed is not the main focus anymore and I am having a hard time being interested in that. And the series is not on kindle unlimited.

I love this series and am very happy with the way things have played out in this last entry in the main story. The writing has just gotten better and better from book to book. The characters were already well done but have also seemed to gain more depth and emotion as things have progressed throughout. The language never caused the story to drag either through dialogue or descriptions. The action was just that, action packed and engrossing. The monsters were everything you would have expected as they morphed into even more grotesque creatures. I was totally into the story from the first page to last.

In the midst of some devastating losses we have even more things happening to make life almost unbearable. Kate, Meg, Tasha, Jenny, and many other survivors are taken from Plum Island and may be lost. Reed and Big Horn come home to find them missing but is still happy to see that Fitz and Apollo are not lost to them. The juvenile variants are a much bigger threat than originally thought, but they may still at least be able to eliminate part of the problem. But can they get back the woman who helped create the weapon? Will the remaining members of Team Ghost and the Variant Hunters be able to neutralize the juveniles and take back the cities? It is an uphill battle that is fought with courage and honor by everyone except a very few.

The action starts from the beginning and barely gives you time to breath as it moves from one tense situation to the next. One of the things I have loved about these books is that when they are in tight spots the way they get out makes perfect sense and does not seem contrived or over the top. I have cried and laughed and cheered for these characters because they have become like friends and family. I am going to miss them and hope to see them again in better times.
Great series, great book, Highly Recommend!

Actually found Nicholas's Extinction series by accident as I was browsing sci-fi titles. I would shout if I thought you could hear me, but Nicholas is one of my favorite writers to date, and I have been an avid reader for over 50+ years. All of his books have you on the edge of your seat as his characters come to life, battling freaky monsters or humans turned traitor, trying to save the world. Then there is Apollo, man's/woman's best friend. I'm from the generation who loved Lassie and Rin Tin Tin. Those dogs were heroes and Apollo follows in their footsteps as one of the bravest canines ever! The Extinction series, as well as his other books, is a must read for anyone who loves sci-fi or apocalyptic genres. You won't be disappointed.

I could have seen the series end here. Obviously, it's a good one, but (I'm stating this prior to reading/listening book 6), I think it would have been better just sticking with what was going on in the US since the mention of other countries is minor throughout this series.

Story:

There's a part when everyone is out in the streets, the good guys are shooting at the Varients, while the civilians cower in fear (essentially). Reed ends up spotting Kate, and Jenny spots her father. Now I don't know if the narrator just said the wrong word or if Nick actually typed the wrong word (not sure how that would have gotten passed his beta-readers/editor), but there was part when the narrator read how Jenny "bopped up and down on her back," while trying to see her father. Unless she was randomly laying on the ground...

After injecting the young Variant, Ellis ends up wiping "salt water" from his forehead. Now, he hadn't just come from the beach, so why not just say he wiped sweat?

I might be the only one here, but I felt like Thomas was a very minor character. Yet, there seemed to be a good amount of references (more than what you'd think for this type of character) from other characters about his death.

Meg's death. For anyone who has read/listened to Nick's Hell Divers series (which I love!), Meg's death reminded of Roger's death. They're both main characters who are about to say their final words, important ones, yet they die before they get the words completely out. So sad!

Was it dark already when the gang arrived at the place where they thought they saw white wolves (forgot the name of it) while flying overhead? I was under the impression that they were flying there during the day, but when they find the Variant claw, it's nighttime because the moon is out, yet it's only been a short while.

Why would the humans help the Variants? I can't figure that out. Yes, they wouldn't be killed (hopefully), but they wouldn't really have a life either.

I wish more rewards would have been given at the end of this book. At least to the dog!

In the end, this was another great story to add to the series. I think book 4 is my favorite so far though.

Narrator:

As previously stated in book 4's review, I feel like I've grown used to the way the narrator narrates, if that makes sense. When I started book 1, there was something off about his narrating. By the end of book 3 (having listened straight through), I felt he was doing a great job. Pausing for several weeks, I then began listening to book 4 and that 'something off' feeling came back. But again, going straight to book 5, I feel like he's doing a pretty good job. I can say that he's gotten better with the speed/inflection he adds to the story. For example, when an action scene arrives, he'll talk faster and it adds to the overall anxiety, tension kind of feeling. I guess I'm still on the fence for this narrator.

Whatever. On to book 6.

Book 5 in the series starts off running. With many of the surviving characters captured by Variants, we dive into their rescue by Beckham and Team Ghost. This dramatic rescue turns into an adventure that includes finding a group of survivors in New York.

From this beginning spawns an epic adventure that would satisfy as a one off read. Being part of a series made it even better. There was plenty of action for all characters involved. A bit of romance and betrayal and heaps of danger combine to make an exceptional entry for the series.

Beckham continues to be the war hero he has been throughout the series. Many more Variants are brought down by his prowess, though this time he doesn't make it out without serious injury.

Kate continues to remain strong even when she has been captured by Variants and all hope seems lost. Even after her rescue she is right back in the lab trying to study the Variants and help find their weaknesses.

Fitz probably sees the most action in this book, more so than Beckham. He helps rescue the captured civilians at the start of the book, stays behind to defend the survivors discovered in New York, goes off to Colorado to help deliver the Kryptonite to the Earthfall launch facility, and finally helps rid DC of the Variant juveniles.

This book proved to be fairly deadly, at least as far as the more prominent side characters go. We see many characters who've been with us for sometime lose their lives in the war with the Variants. One in particular gave me pause and made me realize that just about any character could be next.

One thing I noticed towards the end of the book was that this book seemed to be a soft finale. By the end, Kryptonite has been deployed in the US and killed the adult Variants while dirty bombs had been used on several large juvenile nests located in major cities. Beckham and Kate were headed to Plum Island which had been turned into an outpost for human survivors and things were looking hopeful as the task of rebuilding began. Beckham even hands over command of Team Ghost to Fitz, seemingly ending Beckham's involvement with any more fighting against the Variant remnants in the US. We are told that Europe is still fully embroiled in the war against the Variants and has requested US assistance, which has been granted by the President.

All of that could be taken as a satisfying conclusion if no other books had been written in the series. I would even say this would be a good place to stop if one were getting burnt out on the series and wanting to read something else. However, there are two more books for those wishing to continue the series and see what happens next.

Anyone who's made it through book 4 of the series should absolutely continue into book 5.

have started this review many times but wasn't able to formulate the words that I wanted to say, not because this was bad, but because it was exceptional and the words I wanted to say weren't enough.

Brilliant!!
