Family and blood.

After 1100 years, these simple words mean everything to Herald. His life has been ruled by keeping his siblings safe, keeping them from becoming prey whilst feeding on the weaker. His failures have been many and measured by those he has lost. People like his twin brother.

There has always been another enemy.

Just who the enemy is comes into question when Herald meets the dangerous, angelic creature he is to guard. Wondering where his true loyalties lie is a dangerous thought. No matter whether he chooses family over the heart, it will mean death.

Only the right choice will ensure the life taken is not his.

Mother. Animal lover. Vampire. Fangirl.

Aldrea Alien is a multi-award-winning, USA Today Bestselling, bisexual and genderfluid author from New Zealand. She writes fantasy romance of varying heat levels and sexualities.

She grew up on a small farm out the back blocks of a place known as Wainuiomata alongside a menagerie of animals, who are all convinced they're just as human as the next person (especially the cats). She spent a great deal of her childhood riding horses, whilst the rest of her time was consumed with reading every fantasy book she could get her hands on and concocting ideas about a little planet known as Thardrandia. This would prove to be the start of The Rogue King Saga as, come her twelfth year, she discovered there was a book inside her.

Aldrea now lives in Upper Hutt, on yet another small farm with a less hectic, but still egotistical, group of animals (cats will be cats). She still hasn't yet found an off switch to give her an ounce of peace from the characters plaguing her mind, a list that grows bigger every year with all of them clamouring for her to tell their story first. It's a lot of people for one head.

A captivating story with unique elements in the picture of demons and angels.
Herald is Unborn, kind of vampire, who never tasted human blood and never experienced pleasures of love. Called back home to guard a quartz, he feels humiliated, until he discovers the spirit residing in the crystal and falls in love with the angelic creature. But his forbidden love causes fights in his own family and leads to attempts of his murder.
The idea of pure and just soul residing in a demon's body is really bewitching and original.Even the portrayal of Acarna from the point of view of other vampires in Herald's families seeds doubts in readers' perception about the true nature of the spirit. Sometimes I wasn't sure which side is right and who is wrong. The soft and cautious romance grows into deep passion and firm decision to protect the fragile love at any costs.
I like the main characters very much, the story is well written and interesting, but I had sometimes problem to sink deeply into the story and really enjoy it. I search for sort of a connection with the characters to feel like a participant in the story, but I felt a bit distant, on the contrary. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book enough to rate it quite high.

A heart-touching love story with dark elements. I was amazed with Herald and how a "demon" can have such complex, conflicting feelings. The storyline was completely original, the dialogue was excellent and the descriptions of places and feelings was very real.

An absolutely fascinating, heart-touching love story with dark elements. I was completely enthralled with Herald and how a "demon" can have such complex, conflicting feelings. The storyline was completely original, the dialogue was excellent and the descriptions of places and feelings was very poignant. I could really feel the emotions from the characters in this book and was absolutely caught up in the ancient, complex world. I completely enjoyed this original book and it's bittersweet ending, and am eagerly awaiting to read the sequel!
